Can't get router working after switching from DSL to Cable broadband???

I have a WRT54G v.5
I just switched from dsl service to cable broadband. I can't get my router to work. I hooked it back up just as the dsl modem used to be. there is an ethernet cable that goes from the cable modem to the router. then an eithernet cable that goes from the router to the computer. this does not work. If I just take the router out of the loop and run an eithernet cable straight from the cable modem to the computer it works fine. so the cable internet service is working fine up to the modem. The router is the problem. I have restarted both the computer and the router. so that rules that out. can you help me?

Open the setup page of the router by launching an Internet Explorer Browser and type the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as admin and click on ok.On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings button. Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".- Click on enable.Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router .... If getting Valid Ip .... try going online...If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then, try going online.

  • Can't access PIX 501 after switch from dsl to cable

    Hi--
I have two small offices and recently switched from dsl to cable internet. the two pix501 f/w units worked fine on dsl, but for the life of me I cannot even access the units now from the inside as I was able to do before when on dsl signal. I know I need to change the configuration from PPPoe to DHCP, but I can't get access to do it.
    Any suggestions?
I believe I have 6.2 software, but I'm not sure. The Inside address is 10.8.6.1 now.
    thanks--jb

    Jorge--
I did have the Pix connected to router, 192 168.1.1 for convenience, so I could still get internet wirelessly without having to do lots of wire unplugging and plugging.
I have since changed to topology of comcast modem connected directly to pix which in turn connects directly to laptop.
In this configuration, laptop pings 10.8.6.1 ok, but pix has no connectivity to comcast.
When laptop connected directly to comcast modem,(ie pix removed) the ipconfig /all from laptop reads the following from comcast:
    ip 71.192.7.130
    mask 255.255.252.0

  • Switched from DSL to CABLE. WRT54G Wireless Router stopped working.

When I switched from DSL to CABLE, my WRT54G Wireless Router stopped working. I am not able to access the router page (192.168.1.1) Also, when I use the set up CD for re-installation, the wizard aborts in the middle saying it can not connect.
I appreciate any help to resolve this problem.
P.S. The router acts like a one-port wired router.

Here is my favorite method for resetting a router to factory defaults, and trying to get it working again.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Switched from DSL to cable and now can't find apple tv in itunesdevice list

I just switched from DSL to Cable and now for whatever reason I cannot find my apple tv in the itunes device list on my desktop computer. If I use another laptop through the same wireless router I can see the apple tv no problem. My apple tv can see my wireless router and connect to the internet and watch youtube/trailers/etc.
I have tried restoring the apple tv, and have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the itunes on the desktop. I also reset the wireless router...none of the above seem to work. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this has been crazy frustrating...thanks in advance.

If you have an AirPort Extreme or a Time Capsule, you need to use the AirPort utility to access it. Otherwise, your router has a control panel that you can access by entering the router's IP address into your web browser. You'll have to check your router's documentation for the default login name and password, but it's often admin admin or root root (which is why you should at least change the password as soon as possible).

  • Switched from DSL to cable modem. My Airport light won't turn green. Keeps blinking orange. No wireless now and can't connect to more than one computer! ?????

Switched from DSL to cable modem. My Airport light won't turn green. Keeps blinking orange. No wireless now and can't connect to more than one computer! ?????

    Hmmmm.
If you reset the AirPort Extreme by holding in the reset button for 9-10 seconds and then releasing, the AirPort should be back in default settings which would allow mutliple computers to connect to the LAN ports on the AirPort.
Power off the cable modem for now and leave it off at least 15 minutes.
With the AirPort Extreme still powered on, hold in the rest button on the back for 9-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking abmer light.
Then, power off the AirPort Extreme.
Check to make sure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme.
After the modem has been powered off for at least 15 minutes, power it up and let it run for 5 minutes by itself.
Now, power up the AirPort Exteme and let it run for 2-3 minutes
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Express
Click on the AirPort Exteme, then click Continue to follow the guided setup tp configure the AirPort Extreme.  You can use the same wireless network name, password, etc that you used before, or set up a new name and password, etc.

  • Switched from DSL to cable, need help getting TC back on line.

I just switched from dsl to a cable modem to access the internet and my service provider doesn't offer support for my TC. Where can I find out how to change my settings (I guess from PPPOE to DHCP) to allow internet access from my wireless network? It seems like a matter of plugging the right numbers into the right place but I don't know where to find the numbers or where to put them exactly. Any help is appreciated.

Hello Sivad72. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I suggest that you first perform a "hard" reset on your Time Capsule (TC). Then, perform a complete power recycle of your network components to get them "talking" again.
    Power Recycling Steps
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    o Power-off the modem, TC, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the TC; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Computer won't CONNECT to c4480 after move from DSL to cable

    I have a Photosmart C4480 operating under Windows 7  Home Premium 64bit
It worked fine I could print/scan and read and write to a card
I moved so disconneted it packed it. When I got to the new place set up the computer
hooked up the USB cable and connected it between the printer and the computer.
When I tried to print nothing happened. I Opened Windows Explored and discoverd
that the computer could not see the printer I checked the cable thats Ok tried reinstalling drivers
when it finished it said "connect USB cable" meaning that it could not see the printer.
Other than that there were no error messages
The only thing that changed was at the old location I was using DSL now I am on cable
Do I need a new printer?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

BAC0296, if I understand your issue correctly, you recently moved and now your USB connected printer is no longer recognized by the computer. Is this correct? If so, don't worry about moving from DSL to cable, it shouldn't effect a USB connection.
To start, I would unplug the USB cable from the printer and the computer. Then go to your Devices and Printers folder and delete the copies of the printer there. We're going to start fresh from here.
Once they are all removed, go to your start menu and then to All Programs and find the "HP" folder. In that folder there shold be another folder for your c4480. In that folder there should be an item listed for the printer setup and installation. Go through this process and when you are prompted plug the USB cable into the printer and the comptuer. Finish the installation from here.
Let me know if this helps!

  • Switched from DSL to Cable, Can't connect to the internet

After switching to cable modem (Motorola SB5120 SURFboard) from DSL, I can't connect to the internet using my airport express. Everything is green - modem and airport, and the signal on my computer looks like I have full access, but there is a scrolling message... looking for PPPoe host. I have unplugged everything and restarted per the instructions on this site, but get the same result every time. My computer connects just fine using direct connection to the modem. I saw a download for a firm ware update for the express, but don't know how to apply that, either. Any help out there?
    Thanks!

Hello mom2gr82. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Let's double-check your AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) settings...
AirPort Express Base Station Setup (AX) w/High-Speed Cable Modem
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
o Power-off the Cable modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 30 minutes.
o Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    Setup the AX
Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Create a closed network (unchecked)
    o Wireless Security: Not enabled
    o Channel: Automatic
    o Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    o Connect Using: Ethernet
    o Configure: Using DHCP
    o WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    o Distribute IP addresses (checked)
o Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
Once you verified that you can get Internet access for all of your computers, you should secure your wireless network. To do so, I suggest that you make these changes:
    Change Wireless Security
o Wireless Security: WPA Personal or WPA2 Personal
o Encryption Type: WPA and WPA2
Base Station Options - WAN Ethernet Port
    o Enable Ethernet Port (checked)
    o Enable SNMP Access (unchecked)
    o Enable Remote Configuration (unchecked)
o Enable Remote Printer Access (unchecked)

  • Switching From DSL to Cable Modem

I am about to switch from a DSL service to a faster Cable Modem service using my local provider's (Time Warner Roadrunner) self install kit. I was hoping that you experts could give me some advice before I begin the conversion.
Currently, my DSL modem connects to Airport Extreme, then Airport Extreme to my iMAC.
My question is whether to first plug in the ethernet cable from the new cable modem directly into the iMAC and make sure that the internet is accessible. Then power off all devices, hook up Airport Extreme back into the chain and try again.
Or right from the start, should I just plug the new cable modem into Airport Extreme and see if the iMAC sees the internet automatically?
Any step by step advise would be appreciated.
    Kranepool

My question is whether to first plug in the ethernet cable from the new cable modem directly into the iMAC and make sure that the internet is accessible. Then power off all devices, hook up Airport Extreme back into the chain and try again.
You pretty much summed it up.
I would do the following in order:
o Power down the DSL modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and iMac. Order is not critical.
o Install the new cable modem and connect the iMac directly to it using an Ethernet cable.
o Power-on the cable modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the iMac, and then, check for Internet connectivity.
o Power down the iMac, and then, the cable modem.
o Disconnect the iMac from the modem; connect an Ethernet cable between the modem and the WAN port of the AEBS; connect another Ethernet cable between the LAN port of the AEBS and the iMac.
o Power-on the cable modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the iMac, and then, check for Internet connectivity.
