I'm running a 400 MHz Sawtooth (800 meg ram) with a 20 gig master drive and 80 gig slave I recently installed. All is working fine when running in OS 10.4.3. I partitioned the slave drive and want to run VPC 4.0 in a OS 9.04 environment. I understand that I need to install VPC in the native OS 9 environment.
However, when I set the 9.2.2 system on my main drive as the startup (to allow the VPC installation), it refuses to recognize the second drive.
How do I get the second drive to mount?

I suspect when you formatted the new, second drive, you formatted it using Disk Utility under Mac OS X 10.4.x but did not select the option to "Install Mac OS 9 Disk Driver." Hence the second drive does not have the necessary drivers for Mac OS 9.2.2 to mount it.
See "Mac OS X: About the 'Install Mac OS 9 Drivers' Option in Disk Utility."
You'll need to reformat the second drive, either in Mac OS X and adding the cited option, or you can reformat the drive in Mac OS 9. Before you reformat the drive, be sure to backup any data you want to save from such.

I note from your machine specs that you list OSX only, which would indicate it is your usual OS.
If you initialized the second drive while booted to OSX, using Disk Utility, and the option to install OS 9 drivers was not selected (it is not always selected by default), then the drive will not be mounted whenever the machine is booted to OS 9.

That article mentions one possibility of recovering from that position by running Drive Setup while booted to OS 9 and using the Update Driver item in the Functions menu. It won't hurt to try that recovery tactic (the Update Driver function is non-destructive, meaning no data will be erased), but it rarely works... and the solution is usually to re-initialize the drive again.
This can be done using Drive Setup while booted to OS 9, or using Disk Utility while booted to OSX (in this second case, of course, be sure the option to install OS 9 drivers has been selected). In either case, select Mac OS Extended as the format. Re-initialization erases the drive, so be sure to first back up your data.

With the Lion it is essentially unnecessary to resort to external driver disks. What's more, most of those disks are incompatible with the OS and should not be used. The system already carries a wide variety of printer description files (aka PPDs, which is what modern printing systems use as "drivers") for a lot of brands. And there was an HP printer update just two days ago.
Just checked in mine and did indeed find that the HP OfficeJet 6200 Series, with or without Fax, is covered with the latest update.
So just go thru the motions of creating a proper printer instance:
Make sure the Mac "sees" the printer on the network.
System Preferences / Print & Scan
Click on the + button on the left column
Select the appropriate type of printer, will use IP for the rest of this
Select HP Jetdirect - Socket, default for HP network printers
Type the IP address or look it up
Name the printer for easy identification on the print dialog
Let the Mac identify the printer model or manually choose the driver
Click Add.
Once the instance pops up in the list, can click on Options & Supplies for further config.

Can't get past the Apple Logo when starting my MBP

Hi,
I recently tried to install a new programm on my macbookpro with mac os x. The installation was successful, but the computer restarted afterwards, and hasn't been able to turn back on since. I always hear the startup sound and see the apple logo with the little circle that rotates, but then nothing else happens. I have tried to use the "c" button to set it up again, but it doesnt work.
Does anybody have any ideas how I could fix it?

Raphael, what kind of installation, an Archive and Install, an Erase and Install or was it the usual Upgrade (without Options)?
Try starting in the Single users mode (S key down) or a Safe Boot (Shift key down) and see if either works.

I've had my Mini 110-1000 running our music system for a couple of years, no complaints. When I wanted a CD/DVD drive, I purchased a DE8A4L external USB drive directly from HP. It didn't come with a driver disc. When I plug it in, the USB subsystem does not enable it. Device Manager shows a yellow exclamation point, saying, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware..." It is running Windows XP Home Edition SP3.
What gives with this device?

Following up on tactic 2) above, I upgraded the BIOS from version F07 to the latest version available on the HP download site, version F19. This went well, but unfortunately the system still does not recognize the device.
When I try to Device Manager, and select the DE8A4L DVD device, and try "search for a device driver", it says it cannot find a better match for the driver already installed.
This Mini 110-1000 only came with 1 Gb RAM, and Windows XP Home. Is one of these a critical limitation for running an external USB DVD drive?

One reason for the rapid release cycle that Firefox has now adopted is to keep firefox secure and up to date. You may even find Firefox itself offers some of the facilities that the troublesome AVG offers. And MS offer free AV with MS security essentials.
AVG often seems to cause problems with firefox.

Is the iPod still singed into the account isn Settings>iTunes and App Stores and SettingsZ>iCloudl? If it is then I would not be concerned.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Also using IPad 2 I am able to get the ITunes to accept the user name and same password as the Mac.
However, the only way I can see the 'Home sharing; icon is in Music on the Ipad. When I tap on the Icon it asks for a password.
When I give the same password, it is rejected.

Personally I think the iOS devices are poor at reconnecting - Airplay establishes that a link is available but when the iPhone/iPad has been away from the house and rejoins the network i think AppleTV already thinks it's connected with a different IP address and fails to recognise it has joined the network again with new credentials.
Something along those lines anyway.
I find that a combination of restarting AppleTV, router and iOS device tends to fix it, but not for everyone.

The only other thing I can suggest is to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Download the iTunes programme (do not uninstall your current iTunes) and then "install" the new copy. At some stage you should see an option to "install" or "Repair". Take the Repair option.
Once you've done that, if you still have a problem, I don't know what else to suggest, except to search through the discussions to see if anyone else has had the problem and managed to fix it.
