Can't get smart playlist to filter out audiobooks

I made a simple smart playlist to show all songs with a playcount of zero. Then I added another rule that the "Kind" field had to contain "Music". I did this in an attempt to weed out Audio Books. However, when I clicked OK, my whole smart playlist was empty. If I remove the rule for the "Kind" field, then over 1400 items show up. Why can't I weed out Audio Books?
Thanks!

It looks like there are two fields. "Kind" and "Media Kind". I got it to work using "Media Kind". What do you suppose "Kind" is for?
kind would be e.g. mp3 or AAC. media kind would be e.g. tv show or movie or (apparently) audiobook
sorry, don't have many audiobooks so i wasn't 100% sure how to set it up.
but you figured it out and all is cool now, eh ?

  • Can't get smart playlist to do what I want

I'm trying to create a smart playlist for my Mac related videos (MacWorld, Apple etc). This is what my smart playlist looks like:
    Match any rule
    Artist contains MacWorld
    Artist contains ehMac.ca
    Artist contains Apple Inc.
Album is not ILife '08 Sound Effects
    Video Kind is Movie
The playlist still includes audio from MacWorld and audio from the iLife '08 Sound Effects (I imported them into iTunes as an album). How can I get my smart playlist to just display related video?

Problem is that matching ANY rule means if a track in your library matches even ONE SINGLE rule of your Smart Playlist, it will get added. So the last rule doesn't exclude non-videos if one of the previous rules matches an audio file.
I am not at home now to play on iTunes and try to come up more clever, but you could create two playlists, where Smart Playlist #1 is what you have now (either with or without that last rule). And then a new Smart PL where the rules match ALL and the two rules are the last rule in your previous one where it has to be a video AND that last playlist.
But maybe someone can come up with something better. If I think about it, I will look tonight since I can not recall all the various Smart rules available.
Oh wait, just thought of something. One of the rules can be that the type is NOT {xxx} where XXX is the audio file type like MP3, AAC etc. or how ever the rules call them up.

  • HELP! (Please) How can I get my playlists previously created on my iPhone 4 back?

Hi there. I have an iPhone 4, equipped with all of my music from my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro laptop. I often create playlists on my phone (when it is not plugged into the computer). When I went to plug my phone into the laptop to sync some new songs and things, it replaced the playlists I had made on my phone with the ones already on the computer. How can I get the playlists that I had made on my phone back? I really don't want to have to recreate all of those playlists...is their any way to retrieve those playlists? Thanks for any help you can offer!!!!

Since this is PC version using XP I'm afraid you'll have to check in on the PC side.
Caution: just say your using XP Home and trying out the trial. Don't mention the word Mac. PC folks, would make you regret doing that. As much as its so 80's and 90's for such behavior its still around.

  • How can I get a playlist created on my iPad to iTunes?

I create a playlist on the iPad... I love it... I want it on the iPhones in my household.
How can I get that playlist into iTunes, so I can push it out to the other iOS devices?
When I sync the iPad with iTunes, the playlist created on the iPad is wiped out.
All devices (iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2) are on iOS 5.0.1.
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
    iTunes 10.5.1.
    Thanks

You can't move an iMovie project file and expect it to play.
You need to export from the machine that holds the source files to the format supported by the device.

I use my iPod Touch with Nike+ while running.  I have setup my workouts into my iPod but when I can't get my playlists to stay on "shuffle".  The playlists only play in alphabetical order.  Is there a way to make sure the songs play on shuffle and not in alphabetical order?

  • Smart Playlist "Played" Filter

I could be missing it, but I cannot figure out how to create a Smart Playlist of my Podcasts that have not been played.
I know I could filter on "Play Count = 0", but that doesn't meet my need. Sometimes I will right click on a Podcast and select "Mark as Played" because I've listened to the Podcast on my Treo.
Can someone please offer a suggestion?
    Thanks!
    Chris

  • Can't rename smart playlist.

So, I want to make a "top 25 most played" playlist using the smart playlist. For some reason, I couldn't rename the name of that playlist. I tried moving it from one folder to another, I tried to sync and sync, I tried to change the conditions (or whatever it's called) and still no good. The name of the playlist is still "playlist".
There's also that thing where for some reason the number of plays isn't updating properly. No matter how many times I play a song in my iPod, in my PC the number'd stay the same.
I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with the update and syncing, uhm, I don't know. I can still put songs in so at least that's something. Help?

Are you sure this is a Smart Playlist, because the only two ways to add songs to a Smart Playlist are to change the rules of the Playlist or change the attributes of the song so that it then conforms to the rules of the Playlist? You cannot place songs into a Smart Playlist by dragging etc.
To rename a Playlist, Smart or Regular, simply click twice on the text of Playlist name, once to highlight it and the second time to get into edit mode. On the second click, the name will become boxed and highlighted in blue. You then type in the new name and click on the enter button on your keyboard. Look at the screenshots below and notice the difference between them:
    and
Notice also, the icon to the left of the Playlist name, the "gear" icon. That's a Smart Playlist. The screenshot below shows the different icons:
You cannot add songs directly to a Playlist Folder.
For the number of Plays to be correctly updated the following is required:
You have to use Sync to manage the iPod with iTunes. The Play Count will not increase if you use Manually Manage.
The song must be played to the end of the time of the "song file". For example, if the music finishes at 3 minutes 04 seconds, but the "song" continues (silently or fades out) until 3 minutes 07 seconds, you must let the iPod play through to 3 minutes 07 seconds. If you stop the song playing, or stop it by moving to another song at any time before "it" finishes, the Play Count will not increase.
    Also;
With a Regular Playlist, you can drag songs into the list and move them out again yourself. You can also use the Delete command to remove a song from a Regular Playlist while still leaving it in your Library.
With a Smart Playlist, set to be a "Top 25 Most Played", the Playlist will update itself as one song achieves a higher Play Count than a song currently in the list. So if a song is played fully in iTunes, the Play Count will increase by 1. If the song is played on your iPod, when you next Sync the iPod to iTunes, the Play Count will increase by 1. You cannot "delete" a song from a Smart Playlist.
A Smart Playlist, set to include the top 25 most played songs, may have more than 25 songs unless you set the rule to limit the list to 25.
