I tried to transfer songs from one laptop to another using the iPod. Everything is on the new computer in the right folders but I sync'd the iPod and it deleted all the music off the iPod. How do I get it back?? Help!

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

The ipod/iphone/ipad are not backup sotrage devices.
Certainly you did not upgrade your computer without making sure that your backup copy of your computer was up to date. Just use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.

You can re-download music from the store using iTunes on your computer. Music from other sources should already be on your computer in the iTunes library.
As for photos, you will have to restore the last backup you made to another iOS device to get back what was in the camera roll.

I open itunes application from ipod. There's no common songs i want to buy. There are only podcast, itunes U, and search menu. So i try search from itunes website, browsing via safari. I burned a CD using itunes. But it automatically used Windows Media to play back and changed the sequece to alphatical order.
I changed the setting to have itunes as the "preferred" player but still won't work. The CD doesn't even show up on the itunes menu. Can't find it under file or the "music" button. Tried clicking each and every button. Still cannot find it!
Also, I used to just click and drag songs from a CD to my playlists. With the new menu, it won't show both the CD song list and my playlists at the same time so I can't click and drag anymore. I have been importing all the songs and then search for them one by one and copy each to the playlists. VERY annoying. Any suggestion as to how to do this? Can I have my old itunes menu back please?

- From your description it appears that you used to sync to another iTnes/library/computer. You can only sync to one iTunes library. To switch iTunes libraries you need to do the following after you get all the stuff on the new computer since the backup does not include the apps, music and some other things that are synced to the iPod.
--- Connect the iPOd to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
--- Restore the iPod from that backup.

Can't drag songs from iTunes library to my iPhone. Nothing has changed.

I recently purchased some songs from iTunes and added some songs from cd's to my library. At the time, I was able to copy (drag/drop) some of them to my husband's iphone. I am now trying to copy them to mine and am not able to. I've never had a problem with this before. This is not the original computer that i set up iTunes on...that one was a pc, and it died. This one is a Mac. I did have our iphones "synced" with the Mac in the Apple store. I have tried checking the "Manually manage music and videos" button, but get this message: The iPhone “Janice816's iPhone” is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?". I don't want to attempt anything like this for fear of deleting everything. My iTunes and iPhone have the most current software, also. Is there an easy answer to this, or does it sound like I'll have to take everything back in for help? Thanks very much.

Iphone will sync or manually manage with one and only one computer at a time.
Syncing or manually managing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with the content from the new computer.

Can't import songs to iTunes library

So, I've looked around and seen that other people have experienced this same problem. However, the solutions provided in those various discussions proved to be useless for me.
My issue is that when I try to add songs to my iTunes library, nothing happens. They don't show up anywhere on iTunes- not in the library's list of music, not in the Recently Added playlist, nowhere. I don't receive an error message or any other sort of notification that something has gone wrong; literally nothing happens. I don't have iTunes Match, which I read in other discussions was causing the problem for a great deal of other people. I can't think of any particular reason why this should be happening all of a sudden.
The odd thing is that I'm actually able to delete songs that are already in my library and re-add those same songs without any problem. I only encounter the problem when I try to add music that isn't already in my library.
I'm using OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 and I have iTunes updated to version 11.3.
If anyone knows of anything that I can try to fix this, I'd greatly appreciate it. If you need more information to be able to help, just ask and I'll let you know what I can.

I can take an Excel spreadsheet and force it to be listed as a mp3 but that won't make it one, so I don't know how reliable listings are. My computer is 12 years old and I don't use new QT but I haven't heard of it ever automatically converting anything. Anyway, my feeling is these are not normal mp3s.
Try getting information on the file with Media Info - http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net - to get details of codecs used in multimedia, to see if it really has audio data in it. If this is from a questionable source it may be questionable period.
You can also try playing the file with VLC media player which plays about anything possible.

I ended up just totally rebuilding my itunes library by using a program that lets you put songs from you ipod to your computer. Now all of a sudden almost 6 months later i turn on my computer and get ready to back up my itunes library and my old one is back and the one I had rebuilt and improved is gone. My newer songs and playlists are all gone. I dont know what is going on. Its making me mad. I do not want to have to rebuild it all again. I didn't get to back up my library... I was going to today. I just figured out how to.

For some reason it isn't working. I took a couple of songs off my ipod via ephpod and i tried opening them using the import function in itunes. I open it, but the songs aren't added into the library at all. Maybe it might be the file format? Anyone have anyway to convert the songs into the accepted format?

I have been having the exact same problem now for over a year. First, it was like six hundred songs--wouldnt play on my ipod and then wouldnt add into my itunes library. It happened to correspond with an update of itunes and the ipod firmware. It has only gotten worse and now I am in fear of updating anything further. I have been looking for answers to this problem for a long time, if you happen to get an answer that works would you let me know about it too?
