Can't get songs on to ipod

I have a lot of songs on the ipod. Today I went to put more on. I am not good with computers so please be simple with your answers. I plugged in the ipod and it did not put on to it my new songs. Why? I figured I would go to the ipod updater and see if I needed some new software or something to help me. I got this message, like from a Microsoft error message: ipod Universal Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienience." It then asks me if I would like to send an error message to Microsoft. What is wrong????

You need a computer (Mac or Windows PC) running iTunes to sync songs to an iPod (that is not an iPod touch).

  • Can't get songs from my iPod into the library on my new mac

I recently had to get a new hard-drive on my dell laptop, and iTunes was uninstalled from the computer. When I re-installed iTunes, my iPod was not being recognized by the laptop, so none of my songs on my iPod were in the library anymore.
Now I have a new MacBook, and my iPod is being recognized, but I can't get most of my songs from my iPod into the library in iTunes.
I'm sure there is an easy solution, but I can't figure it out!
    Any help is much appreciated!!!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only

iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • How can i get songs from my ipod to a new playlist?

can i not just drag and drop a song from my ipod to the title of the new playlist? it wont let me...so can you tell me how?
    dell   Windows XP

one way to can simply do this (if dragging and dropping won't work), is to simply put the songs that you would like in the playlist into the On-The-Go playlist in your iPod. Once you have put these songs into the On-The-Go folder (by highlighting the song and holding down the center button), simply plug the ipod back into your computer, and rename the folder with the songs in it. Hope this helps.

  • Can't get songs off my ipod onto into my Itunes

    Hello,
Recently my computer crashed and the hard drive was replaced. I had to re-install all my programs again including itunes. pretty much none of my music was backed up, but it is all still on my ipod. When i re-installed itunes, and i tried to connect my ipod to get all the songs back off and into my itunes library it is saying my ipod is registered with another computer. So when i first registered my ipod with this same comp it has somehow stayed like that, and i cant get it to register with the new Itunes i have downloaded since getting the hardrive replaced. Can someone tell me how i could cancel my old account and register my ipod with my new itunes? I hope this makes sense, I need some help please!
    Thanks in advance!

In the past I resorted to using a program called, iDump. It moved all my songs back to iTunes. Have you thought about one of those neat utilities that transfer music from an ipod back to the computer?

  • Can you get songs on the ipod without itunes?

    like you can on ipods?
use your own music on it to save you buying every song.

    like you can on ipods?
I think if you google "ipod without itunes" or "iphone without itunes" you'll get plenty of hits with interesting suggestions.
use your own music on it to save you buying every song.
Just because you use iTunes doesn't mean you have to buy every song from Apple's store. You can import your existing CDs or MP3s into iTunes without buying them again. You can use iTunes to manage your existing collection of music, and not buy any new music. (The vast majority of my music collection was ripped from CDs, not purchased from Apple's store.) Also iTunes has wonderful integration with free sources of audio content including podcasts, iTunes U, etc.
In my opinion, the main reason to get an iPod or iPhone is for the seamless integration with iTunes. If you decide you don't want to use iTunes, you probably are dealing with slightly more cumbersome music integration which is probably no better or no worse than any of the other MP3 players out there.
Reading between the lines of your original post, if you're concerned about getting locked into Apple's proprietary world when managing your music in iTunes, you consider using an industry standard format, like MP3, rather than Apple's proprietary file formats, such as AAC. Specifically, in iTunes, go to preferences, go to the "When you insert CD section", click on "Import Settings", and change from AAC to something like MP3. Not as efficient way of storing the music, but you're also not locked into Apple's file formats (and thus just Apple hardware/software). But if you expect to stay with iPods and similar Apple players, AAC is a fine format. But for those of us who play music on other players too (e.g. my TiVo), MP3 is a more flexible format.

  • How can I get songs from my iPod onto my computer?

I had to re-install windows on my computer about a week ago. I was under the impression that I could get my music and playlists back just by pluging my iPod into my computer and then i thought the ipod would snyc with itunes and put all of my music back onto the computer along with my playlists. However, i can't seem to get this to work... any help? I think i've heard of ways to just rip the music off, but what i would really like are the playlists that i had as well...

  • HT203167 lost my hard drive how can i get songs from ipod back to new computer

I lost my hard drive and want to get my music back on my new computer. How can I get songs from my ipod to my computer? I am afraid to sync it and losing what is on my ipod. Any help would be appreciated.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Recently downloaded new ITunes.  Can't get my 3rd generation iPod shuffle to load songs in order.  Help????

Recently downloaded new iTunes.  Now I can't get my 3rd generation iPod shuffle to load songs in order.  Never had trouble with the old iTunes format.

I love the new version of Grid view but some of the other changes feel like they still need some fine tuning. And I miss cover flow even if I didn't use it that often...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar (your device should be listed here as before).
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour.
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (but perhaps it does more)
If you want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • HT201303 how can i get songs downloaded from other apple products on my shared apple id on to my ipod nano?

how can i get songs downloaded from other apple products on my shared apple id on to my ipod nano? my daughter just got a new ipod nano for her birthday and we redeemed the shared apple account our family uses and when we went to go buy music it says we need to redeem another card for us to buy the music so i was wondering if i could just let my older daughter download the music onto her phone via itunes app and see if that music would go on my younger daughter's ipod nano but i am looking on the itunes and i don't see an option for that for ipod nanos. thanks so much.

You should always make sure that you put all of your music on your computer.  From there you can sync it to whatever device you like

  • I just PAID for Black eyed peas Time of my life and now iTunes says I can't put it on my iPod 5th gen ? What? Why? And how can I get it on my ipod?

I just PAID for Black eyed peas Time of my life and now iTunes says I can't put it on my iPod 5th gen ? What? Why? And how can I get it on my ipod? And if I can't put it on my ipod how do I get my money back? I registered my ipod on iTunes, why was a song I can't put on my ipod even offered to me? What a rip?

Because you can only synce with one iTunes library and you are switching libries by using the new computer. To nake this yyour syncing computer:
    - Move all the media(apps, music, synced video and photos etc) to the new computer.
    - Connect the iPofd yo the computer and bake a backup fo the iPod by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes doe not include media.
To move mdia to the new computer see:
