Can't get sound working on my Pavilion DV7-1245dx! Please Help!
To start, I do have (fail) Vista,
For a while now, my touch buttons for the volume on my laptop have stopped working and the mute button is stuck on (ie. it is constantly lit up) and I get no sound. I click the unmute button from the volume control and still no sound. I've tried to uninstall the one sound driver and reinstall it but the sound driver/ ( or whatever) was no longer there after I rebooted the computer and attempted to reinstall. Before I uninstalled the one sound driver I had 3 different devices in the sound portion of the device manager. Now I only have 2, which are: (1) High Definition Audio Device and (2) IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. I have tried to "ADD Legacy Hardware" from the Device Manager in hopes to reinstall the missing device I need but every IDT sound option I tried to install resulted in "My computer was denied the install" or something lame like that.
Can anyone (or possibly a HP support whom I don't have to pay because I am out of warranty) could help me solve this problem?

I have the Pavilion dv7 laptop and LOVE IT! It's a great machine and has amazing features, especially some quality sound, when it works. I'm looking for some help with this problem. I can fire it up and have sound. And then the sound will cut our and when I go down to the volume and open up the sound properties, my speakers are missing and it says it's using an HP dock, which I don't even have. Sometimes, it will say that it's using headphones. But the option for my speakers does not show up.
I can reboot and sometimes that will help and it will fire back up with sound, sometimes not. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do to keep my sound from going out.

-Sean :-)Likely the AC power jack has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Not sure why or how it can work if you remove ACPI support but the jack does have a pin that carries data to the motherboard and I suspect yours is bad. This is the part and what it looks like. It is a middle-difficulty replacement, at worst.

Older mac book with (?? 10.5.... ??) Froze up. Force Quit "Kindle", "Sketch up" and "Safari". Have tried to use safe boot but after 5 min. of holding shift key the SBOD (Spinning Beachball Of Death) was still spinning away. Tried to load Mountain lion by means of disc---Didnt have original disc for this macbook; inherited it from deceased family member 2 yrs ago--- but couldn't get past SBOD there either. I am willing to erase all on mac book in order to get it up and running again since all my vital files are in my Mac (desktop) and primary use of macbook tends to be internet use.You could try installing Snow Leopard on the Macbook. [SOLVED] Can't get sound working.
The system has onboard sound (EliteGroup GeForce6100SM-M motherboard) which I am not interested in, instead I would like to use my PCI card (Sound Blaster Live! 5.1), but I cannot get either working. And yes, I've already confirmed I am in the "audio" group, and logged out and in since...

I have tried manually loading the appropriate modules, adding the ALSA Wiki's "Setting up modprobe" block o' text to my modprobe.conf, and reinstalling alsa-utils/alsa-oss/linux. I've tried every bit of troubleshooting I can find, at least the ones that don't already assume I can start alsamixer in the first place. Anything obvious I've missed?

I've been using iChat + iSight to speak to a PC user on AOL.
When we start a chat, I can see her, and she can see me. Also, she can hear me, but I can't hear her. She's checked her mic is working, and I have my mic setting as iSight, but we can't seem to work out the error.
I have to confess I'm at work, so don't know the actual version of iChat I'm using - my software updates are up to date, but I bought my mac about 2 years ago, so it might be an older version. I can check this point tonight if its possibly relevant.
We did chat when she was on a different (older) PC, where we both had video and audio working, but much worse quality - which makes me think the problem is her end.
Any thoughts/suggestions very welcome - if anyone can at least tell me the obvious settings to use, or downloads to do, I'd appreciate.

If when you open the Connection Doctor in the Video menu and she has a bit rate that is low and a framerate of about 1 fps she will need to do this:
Click on the tab at the video pic at the rear (her preview)
Thien she should click the small icon on the right
Then slide the slider that appears to the left.
You should see he bit rate and framerate increase.
Get her to stiop when you can hear her.

Can't Get My Servlets to Run in Tomcat. Please help...

I've been banging my head against the same brick wall for a day and a half now and am getting pretty desperate...
I installed Tomcat 4.1.24 with no problem and successfully ran one or two of the example servlets. However, I can't get my own (working) servlets to run in either ROOT or any other folder that I create under webapps. If I move my servlets into webapps\WEB-INF\classes, though, they run fine!
Using 'x' represent the folder I've created, I have placed a servlet called FirstServlet in x\WEB-INF\classes. I have also placed the following web.xml file inside x\WEB-INF:

Thanks for taking the time to email me. However, I really don't need to test my servlets, since (a) they all work under the JSWDK Web server and (b) the one that I am attempting to test ('FirstServlet') works fine when I place it in webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes.
In answer to your previous email, the URL I have used in attempting to run my servlet (with the servlet in ...\webapps\x\WEB-INF\classes, of course) is:
http://localhost:8080/x/servlet/FirstServlet
In desperation, I have also tried each of the following (with similar lack of success):
http://localhost:8080/webapps/x/servlet/FirstServlet

i was on windows 7 and i had to format my computer i put windows vista on and when i downloaded itunes and sync my iphone i lost all my photos music and apps that was on my phone,my itunes account says i have got to accounts on two computers?? is there anyway i can get anything back? please help me. i have tried restore to back up but it is the same????
If they really meant that much to you, they would have been copied off to a computer at the earliest possible opportunity.
I personally find it amazing that people get so upset when pictures "accidentally" get deleted and then scream about how important they are. You wouldn't leave important paper work lying around to be lost/damaged/stolen, so why take a chance with important pictures on a device that can so easily be lost/damaged/stolen, or deleted by a child. -
Can't get java to initiate applet, or even run, please help
I need help, please. Need java to do some organic chem work, and I can't get it to work. I have Java 2 runtime SE - 1.4.1_05, virtual machine 1.4.1_05-b01, and plug-in the same as J2SE. The Web Start file was corrupted when it downloaded, so I removed it from the Add/Remove in control panel. I'm using a GridBagLayout to position several JLabels, JTextFields and JButtons...with the JLabels and it's respective JTextFields side by side and the JButtons at the bottom in a straight column.
Thing is, no matter how I change the GridBagConstraints, the whole thing will still spread out to cover all the space available which is not what I want...is there a way to go about this using GridBagLayout??
I've read about how you use the GridBagLayout in the Java doc but still unsure how the weightx and weighty works...suspect they might be the key to getting the result I want but so far no luck....

Ok... I just tried connecting my iPod directly to a USB port on the computer rather than via the USB hub I was using and everything is fine. Odd, but I'm happy now.

I did an IOS update and now my iPad is stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it out. I have tried to restore through iTunes, but after restore it says it is still in recovery mode. Please help!
Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

Can't get videos from my documents to Itunes! Please help!
I've tried doing file import and it doesn't show up in Itunes. I've also tried dragging the file from my documents to itunes but that doesn't work either. The ipod I'm using is an 80g ipod video, thought I'd include that. Not sure what else I can try if someone could please help me I'd really appreciate it.

I go through a lot of firewalls that aren't under my control (I use a high school's internet to cut a long story short) if that is relevant.Garygargar is spot on. Just unplugged my network cable and relaunched Itunes. Got past that FindMe screen, plugged the cable back in, wait 10 seconds, and on my way.
I love it when the first google search result is the actual fix for something!

Video_TS folder error! can't get a quality burn for my DVD! please Help
I am currently working on a project in DVDSP 3. i have had problems with the computer freezing while trying to burn my DVD. If the computer didnt freeze while burning the Log (while going through the process) would bring up 2 error signs. One was: "The Video_TS folder will not be included in the final disc." And directly after that it would say: "the VOB_DATA.LAY file will not be included in the final disc. The burn was successful but when i viewed it the quality of the image was fuzzy and not up to par with previous burns.
I found out i had a bad hard-drive. So i replaced it. re-formatted my hard-drive and re-installed all my applications (i.e FCP, DVDSP). I re-compressed all my movies and re-created the entire DVD menu. But the problem still persists!
Please HELP!When i am about to burn my project should i choose simply "burn" or "build/format" ?
Either one will create a folder on your harddrive with the TS Folders AND burn.
These warnings signify nothing. They're just to inform you that the certain files used by DVDSP to "contact" your initial build folder won't be included in your TS folders.
I can't figure out why Apple states these warnings - they do nothing but scare people
