Can't get surround sound to work while default format is 96000Khz

Hello,
I finally figured out that for some reason I can play 5.1 surround sound if I choose the 24bit/48000Kh as the default format from the realtek manager, or for that matter from the Sound control panel. But if i choose the 24bit/96000Kh from the realtek sound manager I only get stereo sound when played either from WMP or WMC.
Does anyone know if this is a limitation of the sound card I have?
According to the spec's I should have the for the s3480a are:
Sound/Audio
High Definition 6-channel audio
ALC 888S chipset
Also, and maybe for another post, i bought HDMI cable because I have a TV Tuner card in this unit but I can't seem to get it to work...

I've seen similar OEM "configurations" with RealTek codecs and the sound hardware on the motherboard. I "think" channel limitations at higher Khs are either a real hardware/codec limitations or the folks that design the PC are safeguarding against problems that show up when multi-channel is enabled at higher Khs (power draw, popping noises, whatever).
This is total speculation on part.
I have seen cases where updating the sound codec using the latest drivers available from realtek.tw allows you to select from more hz and channel options. But keep in mind more problems might pop up if you select a hz range beyond 48Mhz.

How can I get surround sound to work?

I have a new TouchSmart 520z. I believe it has an integrated soundcard. When I purchased it I was told that surround sound speakers would work. I purchased the Logitech 5.1 speaker system. I don't have any color coded RCA receptacles on the system. I have a mic and earphone receptacle on the left side and a sub and another receptacle just below it with a design on the rear that I am not sure of. I placed the green RCA plug in the bottom receptacle on the back and get sound out of the two front speakers and subwoofer. Don't know where to plug in the center and rear speaker plugs. I have a feeling that this system does not support surround sound. I configured my settings to surround sound 5.1. Need some help. Thanks.

Did some tests...
If I change the default audio device to the integrated audio device in the mainboard I get the same. Changing the bitrate in itunes or in the windows settings does not help either...
Anyone has a similar problem?
Or anyone has a similar setup and actually gets surround sound from itunes?
I rather keep renting and buying films through itunes and not switch to some other shop...

Can't get surround sound to work, all speakers pl

This is driving me nuts.
I have surround sound speakers and everything was working fine with them and my SB audigy card.
However I had to move the card over one pci slot to make room for my video card cooler.
After doing this I uninstalled the card/drivers and reinstalled them and what not.
However now I have no surround sound. I simply get sound from all the speakers the same.
I run the speaker test through the surround mixer/audio hq where it goes through each speaker to test it. The sound on that comes from every speaker even though it shouldn't. However my back right speaker doesn't have anything come from it during this test, but it plays sound from everything else.
I have both the surround mixer and windows set to use surround speakers, etc as it should be.

I fixed part of my problem.
I must have hit the rear wire or something because it was loose and I plugged it all the way back in and now my surround works how it should.
However the rear right speaker doesn't work right. I don't know why but it's like someone has the volume specifically turned down on it (like literally 98% down) only and the other speakers are normal.
However if I move the rear right speaker (on the subwoofer) an dplace another speaker in it's place, it will work fine. So it's not so much that speaker as it seems to be specifically the subwoofer connection for the rear right speaker.

Can't get Surround Sound to Work [Xonar DS]!

My speakers and such work fine by themselves, but only the front left and front right speakers will work in Premiere Pro when I have them set to surround sound.
I've checked in Windows Control Panel and the speakers are set up and work as 5.1.
I've been through all the settings in the "Xonar DS Audio Center" control panel and everything is set up the same.
The Xonar ASIO settings are at 32-bit with a 10ms latency.

Premiere Pro CS6 (Creative Cloud)
ASUS Xonar 7.1 24-bit 192kHz Sound Card
Under Preferences | Audio Hardware, Default Device only lists "Premiere Pro WDM Sound."
The ASIO Settings button shows my output speakers checked as "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device)."
I've tried the "Device 32-bit Playback" button checked and unchecked.
Under Preferences | Audio Output Mapping, it lists only two speakers as left and right: "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device) - 1" and "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device) - 2."
The sequence is properly set up as 5.1.
When playing audio, I can pan left and right, but nothing comes from the center or rear speakers. If I drag the little puck in the Audio Mixer to one of the rear speakers, it properly lowers the volume for the front speakers, but still I hear nothing from the rear.

Well, it previously had only "Premiere Pro WDM Sound" or "Adobe DV" listed, the former being chosen.
However, after updating my driver from 7.12.8.1792 (packaged) to 7.12.8.1794, the option "Xonar DS ASIO(64)" appears. Success, I think. Not so much.
[This adds options for 8 channels (L,R,Ls,Rs,C,Sub,Lb,Rb), of which all but the last two have area selections. The first two, L and R, have left and right button selections as well.]
Unfortunately, whenever I choose the Xonar option and click OK, nothing changes. I go back to Audio Output Mapping and it's defaulted back to "Premiere Pro WDM Sound." Ideas?

surround sound works on all my other programs like windows media players and for some reason itunes doesnt detect it! i really need this to gert working. sounds ways better with surround sound

Can't get ac3 sound to work

I have rent a movie and cannot get ac3 to work properly.
I have rent movies before so it's nothing wrong whit my computer. But this time I can't get any sound at all is it to do whit iTunes update I am running the last update for iTunes.

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.

You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

I can't get the sound to work

I just got the
HP ENVY Phoenix 810-160 and I can not for the life of me get the sound to work. I am using it with a HP Envy 23 inch monitor that also has Beats audio and an HDMI cord hookup. I have gone through all the steps on the monitor support page and the desktops support page. Any help out there? Thanks in advance.

No, this is not going to work, you can't hook the desktop to the AiO 23 and get sound from the AiO 23.

Can't get the sound to work on my 5th Gen iPod 30gig movies

For some reason, every movie that I have on my iPod, mainly music videos, have no sound. I just bought this iPod and I am still learning how to use it, however I cannot find anything in the forums to help me troubleshoot this problem. Can anyone give me any pointers on how to get my sound to work with my movies? Thanks

Can't get Surround Sound from a stereo sound file

I have tried multiple times to get the surround panner to work on any of the stereo clips that are included with STP2, but it stays in stereo. If I put the surround panner all the way to anything but the left or right channel I get NO sound. Surround sound is working fine for clips that are 5.1.
Anyone have any clues as to why this is not working?
If I pick a audio clip that is surround, the panning works and sounds fine. But looking at the demo movie on Apples website, it should be no problem to put a stereo file into any of the surround speakers.
I got a new HD coming and I am going to install everything fresh.. OS and all and see if that fixes things.

I'm not sure if this helps because I new to this having only picked up Soundtrack Pro for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but I was having the same problem until I moved the widner on the Surround sound HUD to full (fully to the right). Suddenly my stereo went into all 5 channels! (I'm trying to make 5.1 from stereo at the moment) Now I could move the puck and the sound would go to that speaker. But yeah... it's something i don't see in the manual and had to figure out for myself. Only took two weeks...

i set up my K8N so far, and aside from some minor stuff everything is running smoothly.

my surround speakers, center and sub are not working.
left and right front work perfectly but all other speakers don't work
any idea how to fix this?
i have tried optical and coax spdif, no luck.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

How can I get surround sound to export through the correct speakers?

Hello there!
I am experienced with Soundtrack Pro and can successfully export 5.1 surround.
I'm moving over to Logic Pro to try out 7.1 surround, but I can't even export 5.1 surround successfully since dialogue for example comes out of all speakers, yet I've panned it to the front centre speaker. Please note I do not have surround speakers set up with my computer as whenever I do connect to my amplifier it just does everything through all speakers (whether using Soundtrack Pro or Logic Pro). I am using the visual surround panner as my guide. Either way the surround export in Logic Pro is not what I'm doing within the pogram.
I believe I've got everything set up properly:
In Preferences-Audio-Devices-Core Audio I have device Sunflower (16ch)
In Preferences-Audio-Output- I have 5.1 (ITU 775) or 7.1 (3/4.1)
All tracks are set with the surround panner and I can use just like in Soundtrack Pro.
I can bounce the individual stems properly.
It's just not in proper surround sound.
Where am I going wrong?

What is the function of Sunflower in your work flow? Usually its used to route audio between programs. In the case of Logic, you simply need to route to the outputs for things to work right.
I guess we should start with your interface - do you have 6 actual separate outputs that you can use to monitor your surround sound?
(NOTE: I no longer do surround, but used to). In my case, I used a RME Fireface 800 which had a bunch of analog outs. I used outputs 1&2 as L&R, 3&4 as Center/Sub, and 5&6 as Rs/Ls. Each of these outputs was connected to a monitor so that I could mix in surround.
When you say you are bouncing 5.1 successfully, do you mean it is creating 6 separate files?
BTW - what mechanism are you using to playback your surround files? I used to use a PC program to burn DVDA's, which I then played back on a DVDA-capable disk player.
If you are looking to encode the files so that they will playback on a traditional surround sound system, you would need to put them through a Dolby Digital encoder. If you have had Logic for a few years, you MAY have Compressor which can do this. Otherwise, Dolby Digital encoder software can be somewhat expensive.

I can't get any sound to work on my ipod touch

I cannot get any sound on my ipod touch. When I am listening to music the volume bar is not visible and when I am on my apps it says no volume available. Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

Plug and unplug the headphones. Reconnect headphones and verify the connector is pushed in all the way.
Check the volume setting on your iPod touch.
If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music is not paused.
Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPod touch with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
Try another set of Apple headphones.
Try a different song or video.
Check other content, such as videos, to see if they exhibit the same audio issues.
