Can't Get the Browser to Install

Hi-
I am not sure if this is the place to ask this but since I am in a bind I wil try it. I need Firefox browser instead of using Safari for an online course I am teaching. Since I figured installing Firefox would not cause problems I was not prepared to encounter problems. the platform called BlackBoard suggests the instructors install and use Firefox.
I have downloaded the browser several times and each time I have tried to follow the steps for installing it but it will not "take." The HelpDesk at the university opens at noon and my class starts in 2 hours.
I can imagine this this is not the place Apple suggests I come but I have no choice. I am hoping someone who can sympathize with my neglect of being prepared will spark the time they were not prepared and maybe know what it is I am not doing.
I tried the forum but there were just a few people in the forum at this hour and i got no responses. it downloads fine, I drag the application to the HD and drop it there, right? After that I thought it would install but it won't. I get no errors just the same logo and application I dropped into the HD, which actually comes up in another window and tells me to drop it where I want it installed. The HD is the only option I think for me.
thanks a lot if you can hep me out. even if you don't know what I am not doing o doing wrong--thanks for trying. I appreciate any advice or help I can get.

If I may try to clarify the excellent advice posted thus far. After the download, there should be a .dmg or .pkg on your desktop. Find the FireFox.app. You'll probably have to minimize the window with the .app and then open Finder. Then open the window again (with the .app) and drag the FF.app to your Applications folder. Trash the .pkg and .dmg. Open your Applications folder and dbl click the Firefox.app. HTH!

All previous versions of Firefox would return me to my homepage which I would prefer. Please let me know if this is possible.

When you re-open Firefox and choose Restore Session, by default it picks up your most-recently-open window, and the other windows should then show up in Recently Closed Windows.
The Firefox add-on Session Manager lets you manage how many closed windows and closed tabs are saved, in case it's not enough.

I removed boot camp from my macbook pro and when it restarted it went to disk utility and will not let me restore or set up a new osx , how can i get the macbook to install from the disk i have

Apple don't give access to the MobileMe web site from an iPhone. To use the service you need to use apps, like the Find My iPhone app.

Currently we don't have a UK version of Firefox for Android. If you swipe left and tap the gear button at the bottom, then tap the Language item in your Preferences, you'll see the available languages.

Photoshop Elements 1.0.1 seems like very old software 2001 I believe. Try asking in the Elements maybe someone there will be able to answer your question. Photoshop Elements

I have firefox 4 Beta installed on my computer and I can't get the new Firefox 4 to install, so some of the functions don't work,such as dropdowns on Google Toolbar? How can I fix this?

I installed Firefox 4 beta when it was available as a tester before Firefox 4 was released, so I had two versions of Firefox on my computer. When Firefox 4 was released this week, I installed it and it replaced Firefox 3.6.15. For some reason it seems it didn't install the full version of Firefox 4, instead it's a similar version to the Beta version. For example, the drop down on Google search doesn't work when you click on an item in the drop down. Also the orange button that is supposed to replace the buttons on the top left of the browser is not there. It still has the 8 buttons, ie File, Edit, etc. How can I get the full version to install on my computer? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and I get the same result. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is interfering otherwise.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.

Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.

This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

Hi, I want to do a clean re-installation of my end 2011 Macbook Pro which comes with pre-installed Lion OS. I go through the installation steps and after App Store verified my Apple ID, it prompted me that I did not purchase the Lion OS. I am very surprise to see this message which my pre-installed Lion Macbook Pro should have it. Please help and advise how can I get the OS? All other bundle softwares were in the purchase record except the Lion OS.

That was my mistake - sorry - it IS Command-R to boot to the Recovery disk, not Command-D: I either just hit the wrong key or am just now coming awake from my nap.
Let me see if I can just explain it in a few steps - I don't know of any link (but it would make a good User Tip):
Create an up-to-the minute back-up of your internal hard drive using an external hard drive and Time Machine.
Boot to your recovery partion - holding down Command-R on boot.
Use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD - use one GUID partition and format as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Unless you're selling the machine, there's no need to do a secure erase (which can take hours).
After you erase the disk, re-install Lion from the same Recovery partition.
After installation is complete, reboot, again holding down the Command-R keys to boot into the Recovery Partition.
Restore your Time Machine back-up. This could take several hours.
Reboot after restore and you're back in business.
That should take care of everything - all you need is an Internet connection.
Call back if I didn't explain things too well - at least I got the Command-R right this time!
