Can't get the Express to connect to the internet.

So for whatever reason, my express, which was working fine for a long time, jsut stopped working today. I had to do a hard restart (pushing the restart button then plugging the unit in till the light flashed green) and I ran Airport Utility to reset the settings. I've tried both ethernet and PPPoe with the password and account name, but to no avail. I have DSL and a DSL modem which connects to the the Airport Express. Also, after resetting the settings in Airport Utility and getting the message that all is well, the light on the Express still flashes yellow. What does that mean? I know it should be green, shouldn't it? FYI I have restarted the computer and the modem many times and tried every combo I can think of. Any one got any bright ideas?

How do I make sure that the computer isn't trying to connect with a PPPoE?
On your computer that has the PPPoE connection on board,
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
Open Network
Look for a connection on the left associated with PPPoE. If it's present, make sure that the light is yellow and the status is "Not Connected".
It would be better if you deleted the connection by highlighting the connection and clicking the - (minus) button at the bottom of the connection list. You can always set up a new PPPoE connection in the future if you need to connect the modem directly to the computer.
Do the same for any other computers that may have the PPPoE connection setup software installed. You only want the PPPoE credentials on the AirPort Express.
If you don't see the PPPoE connection in Network, then another application has probably been installed on your computer with this information. Look under Applications to see if you can find a listing with the name of your service, etc.

    Hi. My internet service provider installed fibre optic to my house, so they gave me a new modem. Have not been able to get airport express to connect to the internet ever since. Just get the flashing amber light. Other than paying $50 for phone support, I have no idea what to do. I just use the airport so I can play music from iTunes from my stereo using airplay. I use the airport utility on my laptop.

    Does the new modem provide a Wi-Fi network? If it does, and your only goal with Express is for iTunes streaming, the Express would just need to be reconfigured to join the new modem's wireless network. Please check out the following Apple Support article for details.

    Hi I bought an E5 today and I can't seem to get the internet to work on it. I have dowloaded the WAP and internet settings from that configurator thing but it just does not work. Can someone please help me!!

    contacy your operator and ask them to send you the settings,they will come in the for of a text message then select save as default then restart the phone.

  • My wi-fi worked fine on Airport Express two days ago.  Now the light is green, but I can't get the Internet on my satellite connection.  I've checked Network Preferences, Aiport Express menu, and the satellite tech support. The Ethernet connection works.

    My wi-fi connection from my iPad via the Airport Express Base Station on my home computer worked just fine until yesterday morning.  I have a Macintosh G5 with a satellite connection.  I could not get an Internet connection.  After using the Network Preferences and Aiport Express applications several times, then unplugging and replugging in the computer, satellite modem and Airport Express module, checking the satellite dish for any obstructions, and so on, the computer still wouldn't connect to the Internet.  (The green light was on in the Airport Express module.)  I called the satellite company technical support division last night.  The tech couldn't find any problem with the satellite connection.  When I plugged the satellite modem cord directly into the Ethernet outlet on my computer, I could pick up the Internet.
    Today, the Airport Express module still has a green light but still doesn't connect to the Internet.  The only thing I can think of is that lights went out for about 15 minutes yesterday morning.  All of my electronics, except the Aiport Express Base Station, are on surge protectors.  Why would the Airport Express module still have a green light if it was damaged by the electrical outage? 
    I bought the module in 2009.  I have never had problems with Apple equipment before this. Is this base station fixable?

    Hello everyone.  I too have experienced the same problem Mary described starting on the same day she mentioned January 12.  I have a G5 iMac, a G5 mini-mac, and a G4 laptop.  They were all working fine but all have mostly the same problem now in that the G4 does not connect at all and the G5s connect once in a while after restarts but do not maintain the connection.  In my case there was no power interruption.  In fact, the G4 laptop was not even connected to the home power connection.  My iPad2 and iPhone 4s wireless work fine and a wireless PC and Android tablet work fine as well.  The G5 and G4 work fine on an ethernet connection. ISP tech support (AT&T u-Verse) was very generous with their time in trying to solve my problem although it was established early on that their connection and equipment was working fine and that the problem was with my computers.  They walked me through a manual reset of all the particulars on IP addresses etc. so the problem was not related to that either. In the end ISP tech support concluded that the problem must lie with the Airport driver.  For some reason it changes the IP addresses to an incorrect address so it cannot connect.  Indeed when I tried the diagnostics on the G4 I got a window Pop-up that said an application had reset my settings. (In retrospect I seem to recall that I may have gotten that same message early on with the G5s but at that time I did not think much about it and went about trying to reset the settings but that process never concluded well) I think that the problem may be that there must have been an update of the Airport software that was not backward compatible with the G5 and older Macs.  I mention all this for two reasons.  First, perhaps someone out there who knows better than I do how to bring this to Apple's attention and perhaps they will address this.  Second, I would be curious to know whether there is anyway one can return a configuration on Macs to some earlier time period (as you can on PCs) when everything worked and then leave it that way foregoing any subseqent upgrades or any subsequent apps?

  • Connected to WiFi but can not get the internet

    I'm really hoping that someone can help. I bought my Ipad yesterday but am unable to connect to the internet. I have connected to my WiFi and have full signal strenght but when I go on Safari it tells me that I'm not connected. I have tried changing some of my settings but can only get as far as the message 'Cannot open page - Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding' I also have the same problem with my Iphone and Ipod touch, I have never tried to sort these as don't need the internet on them. I have tried updating my Itunes and Ipad, both are now fully updated. My internet is working fine on any computer that is not apple... Please help, im pulling my hair out here.

    What do you see if you go to Settings > WiFi and touch the ">" next to your network name?
    If you touch the ">" you will get the details of your network connection. Things like the type of IP address allocation (DHCP, Static, Bootp), assigned IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router address, DNS addresses, etc.
    Please report what you see there.
    Also please identify the make, model and type of router you have.
    Do you know what kind of security you are using on your router? None, WEP, WPA, WPA2?
    When you said, "I have tried changing some of my settings", what did you do?

    I got my new blackberry today after my previous one had software problems and even with the same contract i can't get my internet to work, its says "This is a wif-fi service.please ensure your device has an active wi-fi connection and try again." After checking the "manage connections" option it said my wif-fi was on but instead of having the usual tick it had this symbol "-" Can anyone guide me in the way to fix this?

  • I live in an apartment with supplied internet.  I have wireless network with no password.  I have a wall outlet that I can plug into.  When I plug in my TC I get a double NAT error.  I try bridge mode, but I can't get the internet to work.

    Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
    Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting? 
    Can I get a suggestion on how to use the TC as a different wireless device with it's own password without access to the cable modem.  I only have access to a wall port. 
    I own many apple devices, iMac mid-2011, Macbook Air 2013, 2 ipads, and 2 iphones for the family, and Apple TV. 
    I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.

    You building supplied internet is a cheap service that is without proper routable addresses..
    Therefore to use more than one IP you MUST have double NAT.. sorry there is no choice..
    Slow that is because you are sharing internet with every other person in the building.. get your own broadband service.
    Bridge will not work.. it cannot work because the building only has private IP addressing. And they only give you a single address.
    You can put a password on the wireless.. go to the airport utility and put in a password.
    Other than that I don't understand what password you expect.

    No NAT.. means the TC becomes a dumb Wireless AP and switch.. works fine with a cable modem router.. or any broadband router but useless with your building system.

    Double NAT, and set your own wireless names. There is no alternative.. sorry.

  • Can't Get Airport Express to Connect to  my D-Link DIR-655?

    Here's what I did - I should point out all I wanted to do was connect my PC based iTunes upstairs with my stereo system downstairs. First I tried to have the Airport Express join the d-link wireless network. It joined but playback was choppy and I could not get it to work. Next I tried my solution for the Xbox Live issues we've had, which is to go with a NetGear home wiring etherenet, and try to get it on that, but the network never saw the Airport Express. Last, I simply set up the Airport Express as a second wireless (but only "local") network in the house, and so far it works like a charm - no choppy plyback, and I use my iTouch with the Remote app to control iTunes from anywhere in the house. So perseverance won out. However, it really was a bummer that the other solutions did not work, and proved once again to me the "glitchiness" of Apple products.

After disconnecting the calbe, it connected wirelessly to my existing network. I am running an Aiport Extreme for my base station, I don't know if that makes a difference. When you run the assistant do you select "Join existing network"? There is a great post on here somewhere with other instructions on setting up the Express a different way. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

    When two or more devices conflict it typically means that the DHCP service is either misconfigured or is not running at all. DHCP provides IP addresses to local network clients.
    Is your AirPort Express base station the only router in your current network configuration? That is, is it connected directly to an Internet modem and not to another router upstream of it?

    Hi, I’m visiting my family in China, and now trying to help my dad, with his Airport Express and how to set up a PPPoE connection.
    We have currently set up the Airport Express in bridge mode (not distributing IP adresses and selecting DHCP under the Internet tab in admin utility). The Airport settings on our two computers is set up to connect using PPPoE using the given login name and password. (ps! we can not see the Base station in Airport Admin Utility when using these settings, we would have to select a new location from the Apple menu to see it and make condigurations.)
    What we want is to do, is to have the Airport Express connect to the ISP using a PPPoE connection and not through the computer.
    I know there is a 'Connect using PPPoE' option in Airport admin util, letting me input account name and password. If I select this setting instead of DHCP, enable distribution of IP addresses and configure my Airport card to NOT connect using PPPoE, I will see my base station in the Airport admin util with the IP address of 10.0.1.1 (or similar) and my computer will have x.x.x.2. Next to the Airport icon in the menubar, a scrolling message will say 'Looking for PPPoE host' without anything happen. I am sure my account name and password is correct as they've both worked when using this computer to connect to PPPoE (like now)
    How can I get the Airport Express to handle all the PPPoE stuff without using bridge mode?
    Ps! Both me and my dad have iPhones whom we can’t seem to get to connect unless its been distributed an IP address cause there's as fars as I know, no options of inputing a PPPoE user name and password.

    Any solutions to this? I'm in China also, in Beijing, trying to get my Airport Express to work with an ADSL modem.
    Direct ethernet cable connection to my Macbook works fine.
    When I configure the Airport Express with the ID and password that seems to be fine also – Airport Express shows a green light.
    But I cannot figure out the settings to connect wirelessly from my Macbook to the Airport Express. I get a constantly scolling message: "Looking for PPPoEhost..."

    My LCD Screen burned out, but the computer still works. I currently have it connected to an HDTV via, Mini DVI to VGA, VGA to VGA on the tv. Problem is, I can't get the function bar (maybe not the right term) or the bar at the bottom with all my programs on it. I get my screen saver and have managed to drag (by sheer luck since I can't see anything on my iMac screen) some of my pics I had on my desktop over, but nothing else. Please help!
