Can't get wireless to work

here's the situation...
-extreme hooked up to cable modem
-iMac connected to extreme w/ethernet cable
-internet works fine
-go to airport utility, follow steps to create a wireless network
-wireless doesn't work, and iMac internet (wired to extreme) stops working too
any ideas? I've set this up a couple times before and always done it the same way... just can't get the darn thing to work this time. (I've done the above approximately 37 times.. nothing like banging your head against a brick wall...)
G.

in order to access the router web ui , disconnect the modem from the router's internet port .. now , try to access the router using http://192.168.1.1 , once on the web ui , connect the modem to the router's internet port...go to the "status" tab and check the internet ip add .. if it is 192.168.1.x , change the router's ip add as 192.168.2.1 and try connecting to the internet
if any more problems , let me know the results ..

  • Can't get wireless to work at home

    I've just set up my wireless at my shop, using the wireless G w/speedbooster router, and notebook card, this is in a laptop. Now at home I have just a wireless G router. I tried to plug in the notebook card to the laptop and can't get any connection at home. I tried to set up the router and when I did this, I lost all connection to the internet. I then called SBC out ISP, and they helped me to get the internet back, but I still couldn't get the wireless to work. I didn't really want to mess around with it any more, because my wife needs the internet for her work at home, so i'm not really sure what to do. Do you guys think I should just call technical support when I get home and have them walk me through it all?

  • IPod Touch: Can't Get Wireless To Work

    I have a new iPod Touch. I have a Linksys WAP54G (Wireless Access Point) hooked to a Linksys BEFSR41 (Cable/DSL Router) fed by an Alcatel DSL modem using an AT&T DSL 6.0 connection. My wireless network is security enabled with a 10-digit wireles network key. My iPod Touch recognizes the newtork, accepts the network key, and confirms a signal from the access point. But, the iPod Touch will not connect to anything (Safari, YouTube, Google, etc.). When I look at the IP Address in the iPod Touch, it starts with "169".
    What do I need to do to get my iPod Touch to work with my wireless network? Thanks. Help is appreciated.

    I've used the Reset Network Settings feature in my iPod Touch after every failed attempt to connect to my wireless network. I've also reset the wireless access point and router after making changes to them.
    It appears that my Touch is finding the wireless network, accepting the security password/key, and connecting to the wireless access point and router (I get a full signal on the strength indicator). However, the Touch appears to be acquiring the IP Address automatically, right? Thus, it gets the IP Address starting with "169". If I can manually set up the TCP/IP settings, I believe I can get it to connect. Is there a way to set up the TCP/IP settings manually?

    Posting two completely unrelated issues in the same thread does not save space, it just adds confusion.  I was going to help with the wireless issue, but I was baffled by Karol's response until I reread the OP and saw that Karol was addressing the other entirely unrelated issue.
    Decide which you want to work on in this thread.
    For the wireless, you just need to use your actual interface name as it is not wlan0.  `ip a` will show what it is.

  • HT4199 how do I fix it when "another device is using computer IP address" and I can't get wireless to work anymore? It used to work fine.

    How do I fix it when "another device is using computer IP address"? Airport used to work fine. I've already tried turning everything on and off several times.

    I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
    Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
    Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
    Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
    If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
    Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
    While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
    After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
    Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
    Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
    In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Can't get wireless to work with windows7 on new macbook pro

    I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and partitioned the HD and installed Windows 7.  On the mac os side the wireless works perfectly, but on the Windows side it sees the wireless network but will not connect.  Any suggestions of how to resolve?

    Your response was not a helpful response.  I like you also want to use the "supremely superior MAC", but unlike you, I would prefer to have one laptop I use for everything and would prefer to use the best.  I would sure rather convert my entire business to MAC (which would mean 100s of machines), but unfortunately all the software that it takes to run my business only runs on Windows.  All of my software runs much better on the MAC even with Windows O/S.  That would be a huge selling point for MAC if they even made a modest attempt to support users that only want to use a MAC and would llike to completely move away from the PC. I would love to throw all of my PCs in the trash.  I have an iPad and use my iPhone for everything I do in the business side of my life along with my MacBook, with only one issue that the Windows side won't let me connect to my wireless networks and I can't find Apple support or others like you that can offer any solutions.

  • Can't get wireless PCI card to work

    I bought a Sonnet wireless PCI card but we can't get it to work yet. Before I return it I wanted to check to make sure all the software was right.
    The AirPort utility is v4.2. The extensions are:
    Airport 3.4.7
    Airport2 4.0
    AirportFW 3.4.7
    AirportFWAP 3.4.7
    The system can see the card in the PCI slot (it didn't before upgrading the utility to 4.2, but the card doesn't detect any networks (and there are usually 3-4).
    I'm running 10.3.9 on a G4 MDD 2003.

  • How can I get Wireless N 5MHZ Capabilities Dual Band up to 300MHZ on my DV7 Laptop?

    How can I get Wireless N 5MHZ Capabilities Dual Band up to 300MHZ on my DV7 Laptop?
    Question for 4/18 experts ...
    Or specifically, how can I replace my wireless card on a DV7-6B32US and upgrade to Intel Centrino 6230?
    I have a relatively new DV7-6B32US puchased on 11/2011.  Still under warranty. purchased 2 of the laptops. (also own 3 hp desktops and 1 HP All in One)
    Existing card is wireless N but does not support 5GHZ or dual band.  It is Broadcom 4313 wifi card and I am just realizing that the Broadcom card does not do the dual band  5GHZ wireless N.   I have Linksys e4200 router which supports 5GHZ and dual band speeds up to 300 Mbps.
    I called tech support and with their help identified Intel Centrino 6230 as the correct upgrade, and with their help ordered 631956-001.  In the Maintenance Manual for DV7 laptop, this part number was listed for Intel Centrino 6230.  Turns out HP sends an Intel Wireless N 1030 card, which is no better than my existing card.   I called HP and they acknowledged that some manuals use part number 631956-001 for Centrino 6230 and some use 631956-001 for INtel 1030.  So HP support said they would give refund but case manager was of no help in solving the upgrade problem.  Said it was unavailable but here is your money back.
    So after more searching, I see others have used part number 636672-001 to order Intel Centrino 6230, specifically for HP ProBook 4530s, 4230s, 4730s.   And if I use part number 636672-001 and go thru parts store at HP, I can purchase it.
    But will it work??
    First, will the Intel Centrino 6230 with part number 636672-001 from HP parts,  work in my HP DV7-6B32US, even though the part number is NOT listed in the Maintenance and Service Guide for my specific  laptop.  I see postings about whitelists and changing bios, etc, and am hoping someone can provide some guidance.   I have been thru 2 tech support calls and one case manager and have gotten 3 different feedback from HP, from yes it will work and ordering the part, to buy it on amazon, to it will not work and here is your money back.
    Second, I see some postings about Centrino 6230 and multiple antenna's.  When I replaced the Broadcom 4313 with the Intel 1030 card, I simply unattached 2 wires and reattached the wires.  And it worked.   I am wondering if the reason HP doesn't list the 6230 card for DV7 is that DV7 does not have the antennas required to support 6230.   Does the Centrino 6230 require 3 antennas?
    Thanks for any suggestions.  The existing cards do work but I paid extra for the Linksys e4200 Router and just assumed a winter 2011 $700 laptop from HP would use the latest wireless n technology, otherwise I would just keep existing cards.

    I have went thru the exact same problems trying to upgrade the wireless card in my DV7.  It is very frustrating that the wireless card can't be upgrade to one that supports 5Ghz.  Here is my post from the network forum. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Wireless-Internet-Home/Unsupported-Wireless-LAN-6230/td-p/1419595 Doesn't sound like it is possible to upgrade to the Centrino 6230 without it being added the the "white list".  Sound like HP doesn't update the list after shipping the notebook. I feel your pain. HP needs to help out the consumer in upgrading the wireless cards.  I see we are not the only ones that have had this problem.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    You are making some progress with setup of wireless network. Apparently there is reliability problem with the wireless connection. Perhaps you want to refer to following Apple support documents and start tweaking parameters in the router to improve the reliability. I used to have third-party routers such as Belkin and Netgear but switched to Apple Airport routers (Time Capsule then Airport Extreme for now) because of incompatibility issues whenever Apple upgrade Mac OS X. But since Apple develops Airplay protocol as alternative to Bluetooth for wireless audio/video streaming (with much better bandwidth) and must be deployed in any wireless network, there is no reason third-party routers not working for Airplay protocol.

  • Can't get netcfg2 to work

    hey guys, I can't get netcfg2 to work on my machine... really annoying upgrade check this:
    [network.d]% diff examples/wpa.example home

    < CONNECTION="wireless"
    < INTERFACE=wlan0

    > ESSID="Lebowski"
    > KEY="foobar"
    [network.d]% sudo netcfg2 home
    > home is not a valid connection, check spelling or look at examples
    Any ideas? Also, why do I have to specify CONNECTION="foo"? the filename is enough to get the name, no?

    I can't get work netcfg2...
    if I run
    iwconfig wlan0 essid SpeedTouch5F3851 enc open s:LesPiTTareL
    it works great, I can connect to my wireless network but...
    if I configure my /etc/network.d/celadina in this way:
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    DESCRIPTION="Connessione wireless casa Bergamo"
    INTERFACE=wlan0
    ESSID=SpeedTouch5F3851
    KEY=LesPiTTareL

    GATEWAY=192.168.1.254
    and running
    netcfg2 celadina
    I get this error message
    :: celadina up - Could not set wireless configuration [FAIL]

    I think the error is in SECURITY but I can0t find a solution... I've tried also with IWOPTS and if I don't
    define SECURITY it doesn't give any errors but it can't connect becouse key remains off
    I use rt61 wireless module; when I connect trough the first way I don't get any wep modules loaded even if it works...
    I think the problem could be the kernel module.
    What do you think about?

  • Can't get X to work properly (ATI AIW 9800)

    Hello,
    I have a few problems. My first problem is this. The dpi was messed up when i first install, so i thought no big deal, I'll just go and configure the defaultserverargs setting in the startx script to "-dpi 75". This does not seem to work. Secondly,I can't get gnome to work as my default window manager. I put this line in my .xinitrc file in my home directory:
    exec gnome-session
    I also tried this:
    exec /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session
    My last problem is that when i try to install the ati fglrx drivers with the stock kernel arch package but whenever the fglrx module is called, it says that the module doesn't exist. One thing i might mension which might be of importance is that i compiled a custom kernel during install without SMP and preemtivity so i could use my rt2500 wireless card. Thanks in advance for the help
    cheers,
    -Lukas

    sinisterguy:  You're going to need to build your own kernel module, afaik you can't just symlink a module built for another kernel and expect it to work.
    As root, run
    abs
    Once that's done (it'll check out a bunch of stuff from cvs), change to your normal user and either make a directory for the new package, or cd to some temp directory, then:
    cp /var/abs/extra/modules/ati-drivers-arch/* .
    vim PKGBUILD
    then make the following changes:
    pkgname=ati-drivers-arch
    to
    pkgname=ati-drivers-custom
    (or whatever you want to call the package)
    depends=('ati-drivers' 'kernel26')
    to
    depends=('ati-drivers')
    source=(https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fglrx_6_8_0-$pkgver-1.i386.rpm fireglcontrol.desktop)
    to
    source=(http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fglrx_6_8_0-$pkgver-1.i386.rpm fireglcontrol.desktop)
    (for some reason I can never get the source from the https address through makepkg.)
    and
    _kernel=2.6.15-ARCH
    to
    _kernel=`uname -r`
    Save and quit, then run
    makepkg
    - this'll make you a brand new kernel module package that you can install with
    pacman -A ati-drivers-custom-8.22.5-2.pkg.tar.gz
    You'll need to update this package every update to the ati-drivers in the same way you originally built it.
    If you need more information, ABS is a good place to look, as well as man makepkg.
