Can't get Zip or Jaz Drive to work with PB G4 OS 10.4.7

Hi All,
Please help if possible. I recently upgraded from a PB 3400/G3, "Kanga" to a PB G4. When I used my Kanga I saved tons of files and pictures to my Iomega SCSI 1G Jaz and 100M Zip drives. I would like to transfer all this stuff to my PB G4 but nothing I have tried works...
I:
- purchased a Iomega SCSI to USB converter for my JAZ. When it is hooked up to my PB G4, after what seems like 100 years (actually about 7 minutes) it shows up on the desktop. Then after another 7 minutes it opens. Then after another 7 minutes the folder I select opens. And so on and so on. I get scared that I'm screwing up the OS...and tired of waiting so I quit the whole thing.
- purchased a USB Iomega Zip which never shows up on the desktop, does not show up in the System Profiler, and does not show up in the Disk Utility. It doesn't matter if the disk is in the Zip before the computer is turned on or inserted later.
- read FAQs on the Iomega site and tried most of their suggestions (check that on/off switch is in the on position, power on, cables connected, etc.) including remove Iomega driver (or whatever it is) and reinstall.
The one thing I have not tried is to remove the Iomega files from the system manually and then reinstall the software. I am a long time user of a Mac, but OS 10 is a mystery to me and I'm deathly afraid of removing files I need. What are the Iomega files and where are they located? Do I remove them from OS 9 and OS 10 or just from OS 10?
Oh, I forgot...I read a lot of Apple discussion items talking about removing some Adaptec files but I think they were just for PowerMac users.
What this all boils down to is, does anyone know how I can get my Zip and Jaz drives to work on my PB G4's? As you can tell, I move forward very slowly and giving up my trusted Kanga is a big step for me I'd like to be able to move between my Kanga and G4s for a while longer.
Thanks to anyone who has the patience to read thru all this stuff and provide suggestions.

USB and Firewire Zip and Jazz drives exist which work with Mac OS X a lot better than SCSI. I would suggest selling the old SCSI one to someone who can better use it, and get yourself more up to date drives:

the reason is simple if you have a intel based mac and the disk was formated in mac os 9.2.2 or later the disk will not work because the intel based mac doesn't recognize mac os 9 drivers because the mac mini intel based doesn't use classic

Hi, I can't get my old wacom intuos2 to work with mountain lion, any suggestions? Apart from buy a new tablet.

I was out of town for a few days. I had no issue installing the driver on Mountain Lion (10.8.2). What specifically happens when you try to install?
    If you get this message:
then you need to right-click on the installer package and select 'Open' when you get this message:
If this isn't your issue you need to be more specific about what is happening.

  • I can't get my HP laserjet p1102w to work with airprint

    Hi!
So it seem's that I can't get my HP laserjet p1102w to work with airprint. I got it to send out it's own Wi-Fi signal, and i get in touch with that signal on my iPad 3. But when I wan't to print something out from Pages, then it says that it can't find any airprinters.
I tried to update the firmware several times, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions to what I can do?

    Hey T-racer,
As a work-around you can also use the HP eprint method which is available with your printer. The application (HP Home & Biz) is available for free in the apple catalogue.
You can find more info on it here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03128518&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &product=4110396&tmp_track_link=ot_search
It shares many of the same capabilities of airprint but is a different program/feature.
If you have any questions, just ask!

  • Am using 2007 iMac running 10.4.11.  Do not wish to upgrade now.  Where can I find an external hard drive to work with it?  Also need a printer?

I'm using a 20" iMac that I purchased in 2007.  It's running OS 10.4.11,  and still doing beautifully.  But I've got to get serious about upgrading and I don't want to lose the material that's on it.   Purchased an external hard drive about two years ago,  copied everything I wanted at that time on to it.  When I tried using the h.d. a few days ago it was garbled.  Now I see that inside the box it says that it requires OS 10.5+.   Anyone know if there's still a new hard drive out there that would work with 10.4.11?   Can't even find thumb drives to work with my system anymore.   Any ideas would be appreciated.

If I were you I would bite the bullet and upgrade to Snow Leopard. You will still be able to use AppleWorks by installing the Rosetta emulator included in Snow Leopard. And, it's a much better OS version than Tiger.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.

  • How can I get an HP Deskjet 882C to work with Snow Leopard?

Is there a way to get our HP Deskjet 882C to work with Snow Leopard?  This printer is a workhorse, and even though it is so old, our budget and common sense say not to get rid of it.

Install the HPIJS package. This is an open source set of drivers for older printers.  HP dropped support for a whole lot of printers when Snow Leopard was developed.  These drivers fill the gap.
You will need to install three components - Ghostscript, Foomatic RIP and the hpijs package.  They are all on the HPIJS web page.  Once installed, restart your Mac, connect your printer.  You will probably need to go into System Preferences > Print & Fax to select the printer and set it as your default printer.  After that it works great.  And it also works on Lion.

  • Can't get my portable hard drive to conect with FCP! What should I do?

Every time I try to reset my scratch disk to have my media go to my portable hard drive the message "Unable to set scratch disk. Selected directory is on a write protected or non-writable media." How do I change/fix this so my media can be sent to my portable hard drive?

    Hi - Try this.
In the finder, click on the external drive icon.
Go to the Menu:: File > Get Info
    A window will open.
At the bottom of that window, click on the triangle next to "Sharing and Permissions" to open the pane.
Click on the lock at the bottom corner of the pane and enter your password so that you can change the permissions for the drive.
Change the permissions. Re-lock the pane.
    Close the window.
    Restart your computer.
You should be good to go.
    Hope this helos.

  • Can't get networked HP Officejet 5610 to work with MacBook

Apologies in advance if I'm covering old ground.
I just upgraded my Deskjet 832C to an Officejet 5610 All-In-One. The printer is connected to a WinXP machine and works without a hitch on three Windows PC's using print sharing. However, I've tried everything and can't get it to work with my MacBook using a wireless connection. The old 832c worked with no problem. In fact, I don't recall ever doing any setup to get it to work; it was just detected on the network and worked without any intervention on my part when I got the MacBook. With the new printer, however, it just won't print. I can go to "add printer" on the Mac and add it with no problem; the computer sees the printer on the mshome network. It's automatically set up as a "generic" printer because I don't see this particular model listed under the HP printers. But when I print, nothing happens. I think it's getting to the printer because I can open up the printer dialogue on the Windows machine and it'll show it's printer something called a "down level document" or something to that effect. But it just hangs up there and never prints. I also can't print anything from any of the Windows PC's while it's hung up on this.
Any suggestions on what I need to do. The much older 834c worked without me doing anything special, so I can believe a newer model won't work. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks for the suggestions, but nothing seems to work. I've tried the 900 series driver as suggested, I've set the printer up using both the "default brower" and "ip printer" options, I've gone into Windows and checked the "TCP/IP" box in addition to the USB ports ... nothing makes any difference in the behavior. The Mac seems to be communicating with the PC because in the Windows printer dialogue box, it shows that a "remote downlevel document" is printing, but it hangs there and nothing will happen. I have to restart the Windows PC to clear the print job and can't print from any of the Windows PC's until I clear it.
Thanks again. I'll keep searching for an answer. Never thought changing to a newer, more up-to-date printer would be this much trouble.

  • Can't get duplex on Officejet 6480 to work with Mac OS 10.6.4

Recently purchased Macbook Pro 13 which makes me a new user. I have updated the OS to 10.6.4. Have installed Officejet J6480 and using wirelessly. Single page printing works fine. Can't get duplex printing to work. Checked options on printer in System Preferences and duplex capability is checked.
    What do I do now?

Have you checked to see if you've installed the most recent driver?

  • Can I get my SCSI Nikon scanner to work with my PowerBook?

I have a Nikon LS-2000 SCSI scanner and I wondered if there was a way to get it to work with my G4 PowerBook. I have a USB-SCSI cable (Microtech USB-SCSI-HD50) but the computer doesn't recognize the scanner when it's plugged in. It could be a driver issue (I've downloaded drivers for OS9/Classic but still no joy).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Oliver.

Hi, okrimpas. I have the same scanner, but fortunately I also have an OS 9-bootable desktop Mac to connect it to. The problems you confront in using yours with your Powerbook are:
    a) There is no OS X-native version of the Nikon Scan driver that supports the LS-2000.
    b) The OS 9 version of Nikon Scan that supports the LS-2000 requires that the computer on which it's installed be booted into OS 9, not running OS 9 in Classic mode, because...
    c) ...in Classic mode, OS 9 and any drivers installed for its use have no direct access to the computer's own hardware or any peripheral hardware: OS X always retains exclusive control of all hardware functions, even when Classic is being used. So the OS 9 Nikon Scan driver can't function unless the computer is booted into OS 9...
    d) ...which your Powerbook can't do.
Hamrick Software's VueScan driver, combined with your SCSI-to-USB adapter or a SCSI PC Card adapter like Adaptec's old PowerDomain Slim SCSI 1480 and its Mac OS X driver, might enable you to connect the scanner to your Powerbook and use it natively in OS X. VueScan is a thoroughly professional driver and scanning interface, but it comes at a cost, and if your SCSI-USB adapter doesn't work out, the Slim SCSI 1480 will be an additional cost. For less than the combined cost of VueScan and the Adaptec card, you could buy an old Mac to use as a scanning station running OS 9. If you're hoping instead to carry the LS-2000 with you and have a portable scanning station, the VueScan option may the only one you have.

You can't; there's no Thunderbolt port on a Mac Pro. If you just bought the display, try to swap it for the standard 27" LED display with the mini display port connector (that assumes your Mac Pro is a 3,1 or later, which has a mini display port).
