Can't hear from ear phone jack!

I downgraded my operating system from Vista to xp pro. Everything works fine except that I can't hear anything when I try to use my ear phone jack. Can Anyone Help?

I assume the speakers work fine,a dn you have tried the physical volume knob on the computer?

Ok.. finally got my Satellite L355D-S7825 headphones working. Here's what i did:
1) Download the latest Realtek Sound Drivers
2) Go to Sound Properties and disable any Microsoft drivers. You should only have Realtek drivers. The headphones should now work, but it may have turned off your laptop's speakers. So..
3) Under Sound Properties, double click on "Speakers" and go the "Advanced Tab". Select "Test" to make certain your laptop speakers still work.

I have an 8GB, 1st Gen Iphone OS 3.1.3. When I first purchased the phone the volumn when receiving calls or making calls was clearly audible via speaker or holding to my ear. Fast forward 1.5- 2 yrs and now I can only make/receive calls with the headphones in! I have not altered anything, updated software, etc. not overloaded the phone. I don't get it. Any suggestions?

Could be a hardware problem or failure.
If no change after any of the standard troubleshooting steps which in order are power the iPhone off and on, a reset, restoring with iTunes from the iPhone's backup, and restoring with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, more than likely this is a hardware problem or failure.

All of a sudden I can only hear from my iphone when on speaker or bluetooth. Any ideas how to get the regular speaker to work on my ear again? Thanks

This is increasingly a problem with the phone. There are some solutions suggested including plugging and unplugging your headphone speakers in and out approximately 8 to 10 times or blowing air into the headphone socket (I know - sounds daft that you have to do this to get a phone to work!!). It apparently works for some users but not for others (in my case it didn't work and the phone has gone back to Apple for replacement/repair). Search back through the discussion boards and you will see how common this problem is. This issue is a major flaw with the phone. Good luck I hope the repeated plugging/unplugging helps - but it's daft we have to do it in the first place!

Thank you for heading me in the right direction. I reset my Mail account for Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net:(customer ID)@att.net (instead of smtp.att.yahoo.com, per Apple's online troubleshooting information). I'm not sure what "(Offline)" means when it appears at the end of my Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)?? In the Advanced box I clicked on "Use custom port: 465" and checked "Use Secure Sockets Layer." Authentication: Password; I have correct User Name and Password put in. After doing all this, when I try to send emails again today, they go directly to the Outbox and sit there.
What's curious is that my first sent email this morning did go out using the Outgoing Mail Server, smtp.att.yahoo.com: (customer ID)@att.net(Offline) but subsequent emails I tried to send with this server were rejected with the message: "Cannot send message using the server smtp.att.yahoo.com (etc.). The SMTP server doesn't support TLS(SSL) on port 587. Verify your account settings and try again." That's when I tried resetting my Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net (etc.), as mentioned above, and was unsuccessful in sending out any further emails. I guess my next step is to contact my email service provider, AT&T, and see if they can help me. Thanks, again, for taking the time to respond and for giving me your input! Much appreciated!

You could also follow these steps on your new iPhone 5, so long as the pictures are stored in your Camera Roll (as opposed to being synced to your phone).

also must mention i have never had trouble that i couldn't fix on itunes but all of this has started since i have been using icloud for basic backups hope this helps solve problem

The ear phones carry the same warranty as the iPhone. They're still in warranty. Bring them in to Apple for evaluation and if they are deemed defective they will be replaced free of charge.

From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

Iphone 5-can't hear anyone in phone mode

I bought my Iphone 5 and three weeks later, one week after I could send it back, I began to have problems where I cannot hear anyone when i call them. I can't hear the ring, I can't hear them say hello, nothing. They can hear me clearly. I've been working with tech support and we have done everything to resolve the issue. Now they want to send me a "replacement" phone. Which is basically a refurbished phone that they certify works properly. However, when I tell, both customer service and tech support personnel, about my problems with replacement devices, they tell me this is my only option.
Four years ago I had a Mifi device that kept throwing me off the internet. I spent hours with tech support and they sent me a "replacement" device, that never solved the problem. I basically staggered through that contract then Verizon convinced me to renew my contract with a new Wifi device that was better. Of course after a few months, same problem. Worked with tech support and for four years now I've been with an internet that keeps kicking me off the internet every five minutes.
Then I bought my wife an Iphone 4. That phone just stopped working one day for no reason. She recently got her "replacement" phone and we will see how that works. Like and idiot I went out and bought a 4s. My phone stopped working after just before the warranty was up so they sent a "replacement" phone. A few months later, that phone stopped charging correctly. They wanted me to pay $165 through the insurance to replace that "replacement" phone but I said no and limped through a few more months and upgraded to an I-phone 5, renewing my contract. What a mistake that was. Three weeks later, my Iphone 5 won't let me hear anyone. Three weeks with a brand new Iphone??? This phone has been treated like a baby. Its never been dropped, been near water, and stays in an Otter Box. But three weeks later and I can't even hear people I call unless I put it on speaker phone. Tech support walked me through everything, but alas, still doesn't work. You know what they want to do? Send me a "replacement" phone.
I told them I was done with smart phones. I offered to renew my contract, with two of my four devices, if they would let me send back my Iphone 5 ( where i would lose the $199 I paid for it) if they would just send me two basic phones. I offered to completely renew my contract on those two lines for the basic free phones. They said no because I had no contract upgrades. Really? I just renewed my contract and three weeks later my brand new phone went dumb on me. So then I offered to accept two cheap "used" basic phones. They give these out for FREE!!! And I would renew on both lines for 2 years. They said they couldn't do that.
I've been with Verizon a very long time. I love their coverage and their customer service. It is tops. However, I am done with device issues. Three of my device contracts expire by October 13th. I will let them expire and buy my way out of the 4th contract. It will be expensive, but I'm going back to a basic phone with a new provider. I can't believe Verizon would let me go for two cheap replacement basic phones. LOL. They could take my Iphone 5 back and refurbish it and it would be worth 5 times what those two basic phones would be. The only thing I cant think of is they don't want me to cancel the data packages on those two lines. But guess what? If I go somewhere else, I wont be paying Verizon anything. How dumb is that??? Perhaps I should agree to have them send me a replacement phone. Then I will sell it on Craigslist and thats they money I will use to pay off this new contract on this one remaining line.

I have "reviewed my account" and my "options" with several Verizon representatives. We keep going around in circles and I get told the same thing each time. I don't wish to do it a fourth or fifth time. You want to replace my phone with a "Like new" device. I'm not interested. Ive done that several times before and had worse problems. You all act like this is the first issue I have had, but I have been trying to explain I've had this issue with a MIFI device, for four years, iisues with an Iphone 4, Iphone 4s, and now my Iphone 5 after only owning it for 21 days.
I would be stupid to accept the "options" that have been presented to me. I am seeking advice on how to get out of the contracts I have on all four of my devices from another source. I am not happy about all the problems I have had with my devices and Im frustrated to the point where I don't want to deal with it any longer.

Did you try a hard reset on the phone by holding the power button and the home button for more than 10 -15 seconds? Then try to make a call.
