    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

  • Dell OptiPlex 3020: I only get sound from the internal speakers

I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Windows 8.1. I am able to hear through the internal speakers, but I cannot get external speakers or headphones to work - I've tried both the jacks on the front and back.
The microphone on my headset works correctly, but I still hear only through the internal speakers.
    Advice?

    Good day!
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.
    Have a great day ahead.

I don't know what to do - I don't have any sound coming from my internal speakers, and with headphones there is still no sound coming out. When I go into system preferences under sound, there is nothing there - it says 'no output devices'. What should I do?

  • Can't hear from ear phone jack!

I downgraded my operating system from Vista to xp pro.  Everything works fine except that I can't hear anything when I try to use my ear phone jack.  Can Anyone Help?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I assume the speakers work fine,a dn you have tried the physical volume knob on the computer?
Belwo is what one user posted that worked for them.
Ok.. finally got my Satellite L355D-S7825 headphones working. Here's what i did:
    1) Download the latest Realtek Sound Drivers
    2) Go to Sound Properties and disable any Microsoft drivers. You should only have Realtek drivers. The headphones should now work, but it may have turned off your laptop's speakers. So..
    3) Under Sound Properties, double click on "Speakers" and go the "Advanced Tab". Select "Test" to make certain your laptop speakers still work.

Recently I was watching youtube video on the laptop and the sound from speakers just gone! Just like someone disconnect the speakers, sound silly, I know
I restarted the the laptop then, but speakers are still not giving any sound at all. I can only hear the sound coming through the connected headphones.  I checked all the drivers and everything seem to be fine. Here is a screen shoot from device manager:

    Hello @Frankaffair
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the ProBook 4530s is a commercial product. You can do this here Notebook - HP ProBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE

  • Can't hear from either end.

Hi All ,My problem is that I bought A Creative Webcam NX Ultra 6 month's ago,and I still can't hear anything. And I can't hear my grandchildren. I've tried support with nothing coming of that ,so hopefully someone out there know's what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for reading all this.Dianne

    Dianne,
I only got my camera yesterday but there is a setting in the Camera Monitor that you check to capture audio. Click the Webcam Monitor. When it comes up there is a small round icon on the right that says Camera Settings. You have to hold the mouse over it to see what it is. Click that. When the next page comes up, click Video Capture. On that page there is a box that says Audio Settings. Put a check mark in the box that says "Enable audio capture". There is also a box to check for audio in the ArcSoft Video Impression software that came with the camera if you are trying to record in that.
It's also possible that your microphone isn't turned on in Windows. You'll have to turn it on in your Sounds program in Control Panel. You might have to change some other settings in there too, like what kind of speakers you have, etc. To test your mic you can use Sound Recorder in Accessories. It's a small program and all it does is record and playback but it's good for testing and setting up your sound.
If you're trying to use it in Yahoo Messenger, the sound might give you a problem. That was my problem last night. Sometimes we could hear each other and sometimes not. I haven't figured out how to work Messenger very well yet.
Lots of luck! The camera is great but sometimes it takes a while to work out the software and settings in any webcam. I'm trying to figure out if they turn off or not. :smileysurprised:

  • It kept bugging me so I upgraded to ITunes 10.4.1.  Now I can't get any sound from the internal speakers or my headphones.  Any ideas?

I'm using a Macmini with Snow Leopard.  Everything is up-to-date according to the software updates manager.  Can I go back to the previous version?  I work from home and have very noisy neighbors so my music allows me to stay focused.  Thanks for any suggestions.

    Two suggestions:
    1.  Check iTunes volume (the slider left of the progress bar).  It's separate from the system volume.
    2.  Often, speaker problems can be resolved by resetting your computer's PRAM.  This explains how: Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

  • Lost sound from the internal speakers

My sound work perfectly from the headphone or any external speakers. But I don't have any sound from my speakers and the sound control get locked when I pool out the headphone mini-jack and the audio outport stay lit. any solution?

    This problem is surprisingly common.
The usual reason for this problem is that a microswitch in the headphone socket has got stuck.  You can confirm this by looking into the headphone socket - if you can see a red light, then the switch is stuck.
The solution is plug and unplug some headphones into the socket 20-30 times.  If that doesn't work, then use a non-conducting probe to reach into the socket and gently release the switch.
    Best wishes

  • Can I boot from an internal hard drive with a different verison of OSX?

My wife had a MBP5,5 running a version of OSX earlier than Mavericks (came with snow leopard, believed we upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion at some point but can't recall right now, for the life of me) and my daughter spilled a drink on it the other day ending its run.  As a result, I bought a used MBP MD101LL/A with Mavericks installed and planned on just swapping its hard drive with hers (which I know survived the spill...I've been able to access it via a tethered enclosure since) and choosing her old drive as the startup volume on boot.  All went according to plan, but the boot gets no further than the Apple logo.  Any suggestions?  Because I was swapping out the hard drive, I didn't take the drive that was in the new MBP when I bought it but I'm sure I can get it if need be.  Same applies to the installation discs.  I have the 10.6 installation DVD and tried to boot from it and get to Disk Utility to no avail.  Any information/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If your New to You Used Mac is froom mid 2012 and originally came with Lion installed on it you will need to Reinstall that version using the Online Internet Recovery system and then at first boot of the new install use the Setup Assistant system to copy over all the data from your wifes old hard drive.
To access the Online system at startup hold down the Command + Option/alt + r keys and keep them held down until you see a globe on the screen. From the resulting screen that cames up, Mac OS X Utilities, select Disk Utility and then the top most entry for the hard drive, left hand panel, drive model number and size, and then the Partition tab. Repartition the drive as One Partition, You Must do that to get ride of the Mavericks Recovery HD partition which is hidden. Name the partition Macintosh HD with a format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Once that is done exit disk utility and select Reinstall Mac OS X.
