Can't Hear iMovie Audio On Any Of My Projects

Firstly, I tried playing the iTunes stored in the 'Audio' Tab. I click the play button to hear the iTune and the button turns blue yet there is no sound. However, I can hear the clicks of the mouse and other such sounds. I am able to play iTunes directly from the iTunes program, however, it will not play in my iMovie. When I play back my project, there is no audio from the project. I have followed the following suggestions from the support pages included with the software as follows:
If you can't hear some or all of the audio in your movie, here are some things you can check:
• Make sure the volume on your computer is turned up. Use the speaker controls on your keyboard or the volume slider in the menu bar.
• Use the volume slider under the iMovie monitor to increase the movie volume.
• Make sure the audio checkbox is checked for the audio track you want to hear. The audio checkbox is to the right of each track in the timeline viewer.
• If the audio checkbox is selected, then choose View > Show Clip Volume Levels and see if the audio levels for the tracks are set to a level that can be heard.
I did all the Above, Yet I get no audio from my projects! I can adjust the volume levels when I view 'show audio levels' etc.., the wave forms are there, I just don't get any audio output. Thanks for any help!
Mac Dual 2.7GH   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Using EyeTV200

Update: I used stored video footage I originally used to import into iMovie to create my project. I simply redid the import and still no audio; therefore, there appears to be something with the iMovie software. Do I need an update, how do I get the update or how can I repair it without losing the projects I already created? I'm at a loss here. All audio boxes are checked, etc..
Now, for no apparent reason as I was writing this, I re-opened the project for the enth time and it started to work. What the heck is going on with this softare? Previously I had force quite my eyeTV in the event the audio was being used for this, etc.. All of a sudden it just started working, however, now I have to see if it continues to work and that this fix is not just temporary

  • My iMovie is skipping like crazy when I try to edit and then goes to a black screen and you can only hear the audio!?!? What's happening??

I use iMovie almost everyday for Youtube videos. I have nothing in my imovie except the 5 clips that I'm editing now. I have all my media on an external hard drive and delete everything after I'm done with ( I empty all trash cans). My iMovie is now skipping when I try to edit and then the clips just go to a black screen and I can only hear the audio, this has been going on for a week and I don't know what to do?!? Any help?

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller

  • I am editing a clip but it won't show in the screen, I can only hear the audio. any suggestion?

I am editing a clip but it won't show in the screen, I can only hear the audio. any suggestion? The clip is visible in the timeline but when I play it I can only hear the audio and no images.

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem.
I just got my Macbook Pro and I tried to partition/install windows xp the first day I got it. After successfully partitioning my HD, the 50GB partition didn't show up while trying to install the windows platform.
To be a bit more specific, it doesn't even show up in my startup disk in the system preferences menu (if that's any help?)
So after about a week of abandoning my Macbook and going back to my PC I went to the Apple store and someone from the genius bar just told me to reformat the entire thing...so that's what I did and I'm still having the same problem.
    Any advice Lyssa?

  • Can only hear 1 audio track?

I,m new to Elements 10 and have just started editing. I just dragged a clip onto my timeline but can only hear one audio channel. I know there are two tracks, how can I mix both through?
    thanks.  Darrell

Hi Steve,  thanks for your help. but this has really got me beat. When I play the track straight off my computer I hear all audio tracks. But then I “get media”  bring the clip in and listen off the elements timeline – I only hear track one???
So my computer must be fine?
When you say “Can I see both right and left channel in the wave form? Its hard to tell – am I meant to be looking at the “green strip “ on the timeline?  Its so very small.  - I see a yellow line and a grey line underneath?  what am I looking at.  Its very frustrating because I am trying to edit a friends concert  and the music is on track one – but the atmos and applause is on the other 3 tracks – but all I can hear is the music
    any suggestions?
    cheers mate

  • Can't hear my audio in iMovie

I am getting so frustrated with this and I don't know how to fix it.
My iMovie is uploading videos fine, playing/cutting etc fine and sharing fine but whenever I try and add audio to my track, it recognizes there being audio but no sounds comes from it. Not even after I share it.
I can hear the audio when I play in the select box down the bottom, but once I've dragged it across to the become part of the movie the sound disapears??!! ITS COMPLETELY FRUSTRATING and annoying because I really just want to add audio.
The most annoying thing is it was working a few days ago and now not? What do I do?? HELP!!!

I'm really pleased you seem to have solved your audio problem on iMovie. Sadly it doesn't work for me as none of my audio files show the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark. The strange thing is that if I place the audio clip at the very beginning of my project - the first ten or so seconds - the clips play back without a problem, and if that sound clip continues uninterrupted throughout the whole project with no breaks, it will play seamlessly during the whole project. If, however, I try and do what most edits require and add clips further into the edit rather than at the beginning, those clips just wont play at any other point in the project. My iMac was with the Apple-store people for over a week to try and resolve the problem, various logs were taken and sent off, and they were totally dumbfounded as they couldn't replicate the issue, and still didn't come up with an answer, saying only that it was a bug that hadn't been identified. One consolation was at least I knew it wasn't anything stupid I was doing. The other consolation was that they gave me a gratis copy of Final Cut Express 4 to download so that I could at least finish the edit I was working on. This wasn't the ideal solution as certain things didn't transfer across during the iMovie integration, and there was another steep learning curve to work out how the damned program operated - it's far from user friendly, but needs must. I just find it difficult to comprehend how all those Apple software geeks cannot get their head around this problem as it only seems to have occurred since a recent iMovie update. I watch this space with great interest!

  • Netflix LA - I can't hear spanish audio in some movies

Since the last update, days ago, I can't hear the Spanish language in some of the Netflix Latin America movies, but if I play the same movie from a computer, I can hear the audio in Spanish.
This is a problem with the last firmware of AppleTV.
    Please help me.

The video clips were originally MPEG, then I converted them to MOV (at least I think) in QuickTime Pro. When I imported the movies into iMovie, I can't hear any audio.
If the source files were "muxed" (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VOB, etc.), then this is normal. QT applications (like QT Pro, iTunes, iMovie '06, GarageBand, etc.) cannot convert "muxed" formats and retain audio. In this case use an MPEG-based, third-party utility like MPEG Streamclip (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), etc. for your conversions. (NOTE: MPEG Streamclip requires the QT MPEG-2 Playback component be installed for the conversion of MPEG-2 content.)

  • I just bought a movie and I can only hear the audio

Hi I have just bought the movie, Elf, I can hear the audio fine but I am failing to see any of the actual video. Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Hi NRisk,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you can't see video when watching movies from iTunes for Windows, the steps in one of these articles can help:

  • Can't hear the Audio on a video sent via text.

Sometimes my phone won't play the audio part of a video that was sent to me via text.  Yet the same text was sent to my husbands iphone and the audio is fine.  The video plays on my phone but you can't hear anything.  And yes the volume is turned up:)  Any thoughts?

        Greetings dgrabago!
I'm actually being overwhelmed by thoughts on this one right now. After all, this is a very odd situation and we intend on fixing it ASAP.
Now, the most important question I can ask is if this only happens with videos texts that audio cuts out? Or is this happening at all during calls, while playing YouTube clips, etc.? If it's just text messages, do you use a third party messaging application or the stock application? If it's a third party app, please uninstall it. But, let's assume we're on the stock app. For starters, please start by removing the SIM for at least 60 seconds so as to refresh your phone with our network. Then go ahead and delete your old text message threads so as to give you a fresh start. Finally, please shoot a video text to yourself, test, and update us on your findings so we can proceed if necessary.

  • Can't hear my audio clip when i play back my video. Why?

I recorded an audio file in QuickTime, moved it to iTunes, then imported it into iMovie. Then I dragged it to the Project area, under my video clips but you can't hear it when playing the clip. What am I doing wrong?

Well, in the "System settings" menu I have these options:
Default imput: Built-in microphone Default Output: Built-in output
Built-in input System Output: Built-in output
(In neither of the imput/output menus I see built-in audio.0
In the "Properties For" menu immediately below the "system settings" menu I get the following three options:
    Built-in Microphone
    Built-in Input
    Built-in Output
(No "built-in audio" option either in this case.)This menu is currently set to built-in microphone, and I just found out that if I set it to built-in input, the audio output below appears 'output not supported' and greyed out, and if I set it to built-in output, the audio input below appears not supported and greyed out, whereas the audio output now appears to be supported. How come? It seems that I cannot have both at the same time. Is that normal?
One more thing: I don't know if this is important, but I think I most probably is:Whenever I start Logic Pro in my computer a dialogue box appears warning me that "The previously selected audio interface is no available" and that "The built-in audio inputs and outputs of the computer will be used instead for this session."
    Thanks again Caramby!

  • Why can't I edit or play any of my projects in imovie '11?!!!

I've had this problem since the latest Apple software update. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It's very fustrating. I had a project I was working on and now I can't open it. Even the other projects that were already done and exported can't be edited or previewed. I can only hear audio from some of them but that's it. And when I try to start another project, Im not able to view or edit that either. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Nevermind. I figured it out. I deleted all the video clips in the Event Library below. And everything seems to work fine. It's unfortunate that I also had to delete some of the incomplete projects to do so but hey I'd rather have iMovie '11 working again than purchasing another program.

  • I can't hear the audio in streaming videos. Un- and reinstalling Flash did not help. What now?

I no longer hear the audio when I try to watch videos in Firefox, though MP3s play just fine. Everything is OK when I switch to Internet Explorer, so the problem appears to be with the browser and not with the Flash plug-in or the websites in question. Just to be sure, I uninstalled and reinstalled Flash, but there was no improvement.

Try using a photo import utility or application for this instead of doing it the archaic manual way. Even Windoze includes a scanner and camera wizard that can be used for this.
