Can't hear mp3 files or audio in Firefox 26

My system automatically upgraded to the latest version of Firefox 26 on Windows 7 and since it upgraded, I cannot hear any audio files -- either mp3 or ogg. If I try to simply open an mp3 file in Firefox, I see a player and watch the progress of the playback, but I hear nothing.
I believe I've been through every article in Firefox support about playing audio and video and what to do if you don't hear an mp3 in Firefox. None of it has changed anything.
I found the Firefox options for MP3 that give me the choice of "Always Ask", "Use QuickTime Plugin 7.7.4' and "Use Windows Media Player (default)" and have tried both QuickTime Plugin choice and Windows Media Player choice and it has no affect. I SEE the playback, but don't hear it. I use the volume slider in the playback window, but it has no affect. I can hear these mp3 files when I play them in IE or Chrome, so what is the matter?
mp3 files used to play for me. But in the last few days I believe both Firefox and QuickTime versions have upgraded and now I can't get it to work.
Very frustrating.

I changed the media.windows-media-foundation.enabled pref to false, opened a new Firefox and...... '''I CAN HEAR SOUNDS AGAIN'''
THANKS!!!!
Should I ask why the heck I needed to do that and how the heck I should have known to do that? Or should I just stop at 'Thank you' and move on with my life (leaning towards the latter).

Man, have you ever opened Logic before? If you had you would have noticed that these instructions are for Logic and yes you will obtain 44.1/16 files if you choose these options in the "copy/convert" menue.

  • How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?

How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?  I can physically copy the tunes as mp3's but the phone does not seem to be able to play all of them.   Do I need to copy an entire album or can I just pick & choose individual songs?   The phone is question is an LG running who knows what for an operating system.

AAC is Advanced Audio Coding.  Basically it's a format that sounds better than MP3 but doesn't take up as much space as a lossless format (like you'd have on a CD).  More than likely you've had that encoding turned on when you ripped your music into itunes (it's the default encoder).  Therefore your LG phone won't play them.
You need to turn off the AAC format by going to the iTunes menu, Preferences, General (at the top), then clicking the "Import Preferences" button.  Change the AAC Encoder to MP3 Encoder.  After that you'll have to make MP3 copies of your songs by right clicking them and selecting "Create MP3 Version."  You'll get a copy of the song that should transfer to your SD card and have MP3 encoding.  Hopefully your phone will play that.

  • Adobe reader XI can't open mp3 files in a pdf document- says the required decoder not installed

Adobe reader XI can't open mp3 file links contained in a pdf - it says the required decoder is not installed
    please help!

This is not a function of Reader, but that your computer does not seem to be configured to play mp3 files. Try fixing your file associations. The method of doing so depends upon your OS and it version number.

  • I don´t hear mp3 file in real time... why?

I`m using mp3 at 120 kbps 44 khz, but always hear a stupid BEEP...
Can I hear mp3 in real time?
    Thanks in advance

You don't hear it because it isn't in an FCP native format.
Assuming you're on a DV timeline (or any other with the same specs), take it into Compressor or iTunes and convert to 16 bit 48 kHz AIFF, and you'll be fine.
It is said that you can also export to AIFF from FCP and then reimport.

  • Can't transfer mp3 files to ipod

    Hi folks,
two months ago I left the WIndows world and migrate to MacOS purchasing an iMAC (MacOS 10.6).
    It's simply perfect!
However, I am an addicted user of Windows based recording software that enables you to record radio broadcasts.
Well, I simply implemented VMWare Fusion with a WIndows XP guest system. The recording of radio programmes works fine and I am able to transfer the mp3 data from the Windows XP guest to MacOS host.
iTunes can play these mp3 files but I am not able to transfer these files to my ipod!?
I know this is a rather unusual scenario.
But is there anybody who can give me a clue what to do??
Thanks in advance for your support.
Best regards from Germany to the rest of the Mac world
    Klaus

    Hi Diane,
    thanks for your reply.
In fact, your question put me on right path.
I used to transfer files to my ipod by syncing a special playlist. However, my ipod was configured in such a way that it only allows podcasts to be transferred. Well, as soon as I allowed music files (i.e. mp3 files) to be transferred, my problem was solved.
Thanks for your support & Greetings from the Rhine area in Germany to the famous music city

  • How can I move mp3 files from trash to iTunes?

I accidently moved a group of MP3 files (songs) from my iTunes to the trash.  After doing a little research, I saw the suggestion of creating a folder on my desktop and dragging them from the trash to the new desktop folder.  So, I did that, and as far as I can tell, the songs are all there, sitting in the folder.  But when I tried to drag the songs from the desktop folder to iTunes, I got this message:
"Attempting to copy the disk Macintosh HD failed.  You do not have enough access privaleges for this operation."
This makes no sense to me.  This is my private computer so I should have all the privaleges I need to do anything, right? And I'm not trying to copy the "disk Macintosh HD", right?
Anyway, can you help me move the songs back into iTunes--or to the podcast so I can then move them to iTunes?  FYI, the songs have names like, "download 124.mp3" and the Kind is "mp3 Audio."  I originally got these songs via a podcast from a radio station (KCRW). I have iTunes 11.1.1.
    Thanks!

    ed2345,
Thanks!  I did that and the songs are now back in my iTunes.  Some of the songs went back to the podcast and some went to the playlist.
UNFORTUNATELY, the songs did some sort of massive duplicating so that there are now over 100 duplicates of every episode/song (the podcast now has almost 36,000 episodes/songs and the playlist now has over 24,000 episodes/songs), and iTunes is viery slow/sluggish (spinning beach ball).  Can you tell me how to eleminate all of the duplicates?

  • How can I transfer mp3 files from my PC to my Ipod Touch 4?

I have an Ipod Touch 4 that was given to me. I use it almost exclusively to listen to audio books downloaded from various libraries. Once upon a time long ago I did manage to download some music (mp3 files) to the Ipod but I have no idea how. Now I would like to transfer some additional mp3 files to the Ipod but I have no idea how to do so and I have not been able to find any instructions that make sense using Google. I should also mention that I find ITunes to be the most confusing non-discoverable software I have every encountered. The instructions for dummies won't do. When it comes to ITunes I need the instructions for someone who can just barely find the on/off switch with both hands in daylight. Thanks for any help.
P.S. I developed business application software for 40 years so I am PC literate, just not ITunes and Ipod literate.<g>

To import media into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions

  • Can I set MP3 files as "Podcast" so that I can get the blue "Unplayed" dot?

Here's my scenario: I have a whole bunch of audio files of Spanish lessons that are in MP3 format that I want to put on to my iPod. There's quite a lot of them: 82 in fact, and they're titled lesson 1, lesson 2, lesson 3, etc.
In order for me to be able to see at a glance, from one day to the next, what files I have listened to, or to be more precise, what was the LAST file I listened to and what is the NEXT file I should listen to, I was wondering if there was some way I could somehow have these regular MP3 files show up as PODCASTS?
The reason I ask this is because non-played podcasts have that little blue dot next to them that shows that they have not been played, and played podcasts don't have that little blue dot.
Obviously, if I could have my Spanish audio files as podcasts, with blue dots, then I could see instantly what is the next file I have to listen to, without having to try and remember the lesson number.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Might take a little work, but you can do it be creating an RSS file for the content, dumping it on a web server, and "subscribing" to it.
    * Grab an RSS file from any podcast and save it on your system.
    * Edit the file, changing all the description data to something relevant (or removing it)
    * For the episodes, change the file location reference from "http://..." to "file://localhost/...thefile_on_your_harddrive". This makes the RSS file only useful to someone who already has the files. It also results in iTunes duplicating the files as you subscribe and it "downloads" each episode.
You may also be able to use GarageBand '06 to make a suitable RSS file, but I haven't ever tried this.

  • Can't import mp3 file to LE7

I'm a new mac convert, and a new logic user (awaiting v8 upgrade).
I frequently record gigs, rehearsals and lessons on an Edirol R09 flash recorder, as 320K mp3 files. On the PC, for files I wanted to archive, my routine was to pull the file into Cooledit 2000 for editing (usually at least normalize, compress, normalize; sometimes more).
I assumed LE7 would be (though massive overkill) capable of this little routine. But when I try to import one of these mp3s, or drag it into the Arrange window, I get a dialog box with "What kind of file is this" and only an Abort button (i.e., no way to "answer the question").
So, take your pick from two questions:
    * How can I do this in LE7/8?
    * Is there a more appropriate tool for this purpose?
    Thanks

You have to import it into the AUDIO window first, then drag it from there into the arrange window.

I have installed xine-phonon and it is uses default.
I have tried installing gstreamer phonon (with all official of the repository plugins) but I have the same problem... I can't hear anything...
I have tried installing pulseaudio but... nothing...
I have tried installing oss but.... nothing
I have tried erasing the file ~.xine/catalog.cache but... nothing...
some web pages says solved it issue installing a package called libxine-ffmep but it is not in pacman...

phonon-xine depends on xine-lib which depends on ffmpeg, but its probably worth checking to make sure they are installed.
    I have installed xine-lib

  • ENCORE DVD2.0 can't decode MP3 file?

It is probably my fault although I do not know what I did wrong: I have been importing assets, including MP3 files, into Encore DVD2.0 for a 'long' time without any problem. I 'truncated' and faded in/out one MP3 in PrE7 and exported it to a folder from where I tried to import it back to Encore. Encore gave the following error message: "The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem". The "non-truncated" version of this MP3 file can still be imported into Encore. Thanks, Laci.

This question might not belong here but it is also about audio, however audio in WMP v.12.0.7600.16667 (and also in VLC v.1.1.4). They do not play the audio in the 0000.m2ts video clip that I extracted from the Blu-ray disk that I burned from an AVCHD video with PrE 7. (I had to extract this file because just placing the BD disk in the LG BD player in my computer didn't work. (The BD disk plays both video and audio flawlessly on the standalone Panasonic Blu-ray player.) Also other video clips (e.g. MOV files) work fine on with both WMP and VLC. I downloaded the AC3 Codecs but it didn't help either. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Laci. (BTW, my new editing computer is working but still experimenting with software. I will report on it as soon as everything works!)

  • Why can't my mp3 files be downloaded from my website?

    Hello there,
I am creating a HTML website for a client and they want a 'podcast' page with a listing of their podcasts. The idea is that the viewer can click on the link on the web page and have a choice of either listening to the podcast streamed through the website or they can download it to put on an ipod if they want. The trouble is that when I click on the link, I can only listen to the mp3 files streamed. Normally when I upload a file, e.g. a PDF file, it can be downloaded when its link is clicked on. Am I doing something wrong? I need a 'download' option too.
I've read about RSS feeds and find it terribly confusing and can't find a clear, simple explanation anywhere on how to do it.
    My webpage is: http://alfierobertsinstitute.ca/podcasts.html
(It's still a mess as it's a work in progress.)
I would really appreciate some help or advice regarding my problem.
PS. The podcasts are not embedded in my HTML. I have them uploaded in a separate Podcast folder on my server space.
    Thank you in advance.

Look at this RSS example.  View source.  It's an XML file with a list of audio files. You can subscribe to the feed and have it saved to iTunes etc...for import into iPod, or Live Bookmarks, or Browser bookmarks or some other RSS aggregator on your PC.
Or you can click on individual links to launch your player.

My suggestion is to provide options for as many users as possible.  Not everyone has an iPod, not everyone has Flash player capability.
