Can't hear nothing on iChat/AIM

I bought my first mac about 5 months ago, and i never got the chance to use the ichat video. My bff jus got her laptop (an HP) so i wanted us to test our webcams. She can hear me fine and i could not hear her, at first it was super low (and i checked my volume/system preferences/ preference on iChat) then nothing! She is using AIM 6.8 (Win) and im using iChats AIM. This is my first mac, so i dont know, maybe im doing something wrong. Only one of the lights were green lit (the right one)
I don't know what else to do. Please help....

The jack is very tight when it is new, press the headset connector all the way in, there should be no space between the plastic on the headset jack and the body of the Nano.

It sounds like (forgive the pun) that they have not selected the Mic in either Sytsem Preferences > Sound > imput tab (or not adjutsed the volume high enough here).
Or they have not selected the Mic in iChat > Preferences > Video section > Microphone Drop Down. (It has to be the same mic as the above selection).
There is also the chance they have go the Micorphone disabled in the Video (or Audio menu) to the right of Buddies. It needs to show a tick next to it.
If you are not hearing 5 other people but they can hear you and each other it sounds more like a Port issue either in the routing device or your Mac Firewall if it is On.
If the Mac firewall is On you have to add port 5353 as a New item to the firewall settings
System Preference > Sharing > Firewall Tab.
Select the NEW button.
Select "Other" from the top box/drop down of the pop out
Add port 5353 as a UDP line
Give the entry a name in the description field.
Add entry
Make sure it is ticked before exiting the Firewall.
(Also check the Advanced button has not "Blocked ALL UDP Traffic")

Can't login in to iChat/AIM, Error - Auth:ResvLinkError

When I try to login in to iChat/AIM I get the following error...
Auth:ResvLinkError
Any ideas? I try logging in on another screen name on my MacBook and have no problems.

And worth a try.
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

Hello to yall,
I'm sitting in Lyon, France and my iChat isn't working. I have to get connected to the internet via LAN here and I think this is the problem. iChat won't let me log in. It tries to connect for a while and finally it tells me the following (translation):
Could not connect with AIM. The connection could not be closed because it took too much time.
Please try again later.
Something like that. soooooo, what might be the problem?
Everything else on the internet ist working, the browser, email... just iChat is giving me a hard time. I even tried to connect my iMac with the LAN and there I have the same problems. It must be the LAN but I do not know what to do about it.
Any options?

IChat Can be heard and watched, I can Watch but I can not Hear

Hi iChat Forum,
I'm new into the Mac world environment with a recent out of the box MacBook Pro that I just recently received three weeks ago. One of the main concerns that I would like to share with you is Video Conferencing with a PC AIM user, which I think this deserve some sort of investigation or if you have any suggestion that I could do to solve the problem I really, really would appreciate it.
Let me tell you my story:
On me side, I'm in UK based with:
- A New MacBook Pro, No modification to any settings.
- Firewall, I checked settings and it is off.
- BT Voyayer2091-B7 Wireless ADSL Router (Works Great), high speed.
- Setup Account for iChat on AIM network
Other End, My Wife based in Mexico with:
- Dell Latitud D810 Intel Prowireless, Windows XP SP2 (1.8GHZ, 2MB Memory), No internal microphone integrated.
- Ethernet Broadband connection, high speed.
- Webcam PCL-300K connected trough a USB port with Microphone.
- Setup account for iChat on AIM network
We followed the recomended setting described by this two sources:

Without too much hassle we were able to communicate each other, wow! this is great it works!! we though, with a little bit of delay in the frame display but voice very clear this was enough to keep in touch each other.
After three weeks of succesfull communication on both ends for long periods (1.5hrs) without any interruptions we were able to communicate, and it was four days ago that all of the sudden we starting having problems with our communication, starting primarly with receiving this message errors of not responding for an invitation from her after I accepted her request, the same situation in the otherway around. However after disconnecting and trying again it was only when she invited and I responded (Accepting) which finally we stablish communication again.
The Problem:
Now, even that we are able to stablish communication with Video in both ends, she CAN perfectly hear me and watch me, on the other hand I CAN see her but CAN NOT hear!!. At first we though it was a problem on the microphone, not switched on or some kind of sound setting that she might turned off, but NOT, everything was right.
Well, I refer back to the documentation described in the links above thinking that this may be an issue with the router on her END not Mine or firewall setting. She reinstalled everything and follow all the required steps to setup the setting of the firewall according to documentation and we tried again with the same results.
On my end as I mentioned previously I do not have any firewall set on in my Mac, the only bit that I have not check yet is the router configuration, and the reason is because I'm in a renting property that provide us with Broadband connection to internet that individual or different computers/pcs have access to. And because everything worked fine at first, I don't think there are setting there that are needed to be changed, no one has make anychanges to the router and everything works fine.
Our last resource for us was, thinking that it might be a problem with her microphone in her web cam, so we decided to use SKIPE instead, and surprise!, we could stablished only voice communication in both ends, so this proved that her Microphone setting are OK!, so our work around to our communication and Video problem is to open an iChat convertation for the VIDEO part, On my END and set the MUTE and Open, at the same time a SKIPE session for Audio only. This works pretty good and actually the frame rate of the display on boths ends accelarate a lot.
If I check connection Doctor on the iChat session I received 100% coomunication with video and 0% Voice, still I don't received Voice from her.
I know this is not the good solution and I'm still concern of what wen't wrong on that time that interrupted our communication without doing anything in the settings in both machines.
We decided not to spend more time anymore on this matter due to I'm very tire investigating what migh have been wrong, but as I said this is not the right solution something is wrong in my settings which does not allow me to pass through voice signals from her. I reached to the point to reinstall ichat but because this is NEW machine and don't want to incurr in the same sort of situation I had with Windows, that is why I personally switched to Mac.
Well have a happy reading and if you come up with some solution or you have come across with something similar and managed to soleved it I really would appreciate it you help or advice.

Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
If your wife has unplugged her Mic at any time she will need to redo the tuning.
It is also possible that her video quality need to be reduced to allow the audio to come through.
You should start a chat.
At her end she should see your incoming video is in one of two tabs.
She should click on the rear tab which will come to the front and show her preview.
A small icon should appear to the right of the tab.
She should click on this to bring up a slider.
Sliding this to the left will reduce her video quality.
At this point this will allow the processor at her end to produce new frames faster which means her pic to you will smooth out a bit.
If you open the Connection Doctor from the Video menu you will see the frame rate and Bitrate go up.
As the slider gets moved further to the left you should get Audio.

AIM user can't hear me

I've done everything I can think of, but my friend using AIM can't hear me when I talk. I have a Macbook with an internal mic and I've checked all the settings, made sure it's on and at full volume, but it doesn't work. I can hear him. What could be wrong?

Ichat AIM to PC, I can get pictures, they can here me, but I can't here the

I have tried everything I can, opened up all the ports ichat possibily needs, turned the firewall off and when I chat with a PC I get a picture, and they can hear me, but I can't here them. Also an error message is given when they try to connect to me (on their side saying that I am not allowing video chat), but when I click on the AIM camera to them, we can connect just fine, I just can't hear anything. I am desperate please help, trying to communicate to my family in the states!

Hi there, I am having the same issues here. Have iChat and (stupid) AIM on the Mac and all friends have PCs and Windows.
Seems that the only IM progs that support video for both Mac users and PC users to connect to eachother are AIM and maybe Yahoo??
Tried Sykpe tonight (which i used effortlessly on PCs)
Cant seem to get the Mac to see video from a PC and visa-versa.
BUT cant get the **** iChat to even work on AIM!!! arg!!! Downloaded new and old versions of AIM still no joy. Why cant it be as simple as Windows with Skype, Yahoo, MSN etc!

the mute button is a switch you need to flip, not touch. if you look at it and see color, its on.

Is there no sound period? I mean nothing through the headphones or the speaker? If the sound works only through the speaker or just through the headphones the switch inside the headphone port maybe stuck open. Try plugging and unplugging 10 to 12 times to unstick it. If no sound at all, go into Settings>Music>Volume Limit. See if it is turned on, if so check that the limit is not turned down to zero. If still not the problem try a soft reset, press and hold the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, about 15 seconds, then release. if still no joy go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. If still no joy, connect to iTunes via the cable and Restore to backup. If that doesn't work Restore to new. Just remember to save all your stuff that can be wiped before you restore, pictures, music, contacts etc. If none of this works, then maybe a hardware issue contact Apple Genius Bar or store and have your iPod evaluated. Turns out there was a film on the glass side of the phone that I didn't even know was there! All is well now! Yay, cause I'm really liking this phone. Had a blackberry for ever. Thank you for your prompt response. Ann

i can't log in to ichat due to the fact that I can't connect with aim. everytime i try to log in it gives an ichat connection alert saying that the connection to the host was unexpectedly lost. the weird thing is that it let me sign on the first time then all of the sudden it just clicked off, giving me that message.

I'm having the same problem.
I know this is an Apple forum, but is there anywhere that we can get info about AOL's servers (i.e., which regions are having trouble, etc)? I'm in France, and AOL seems to shut down at about 6:00pm every day. This is very frustrating, since the people i'm trying to talk to are in the US.
Edit: the firewall port solution doesn't work, either. It's AOL.
