Can't here midi file

Hi everybody
I'm discovering login express thanks to a trial version.
To start I have imported a midi file and an audio file.
I can hear the audio file and do everything on it
I can see the midi track, I can edit it but when i play it sound seems to be emitted but I can't here anything.
Is it a problem of my computer configuration ? Do i miss a driver ?
Thanks for your reply

Michael, this is probably the most asked question here. You don't have to look far to find other posts about it. A simple search would have turned up an answer.
I'll grant that the manual is a little sketchy in making the distinction between Audio Instruments and MIDI instruments, and for new users (especially those migrating from GarageBand), those tracks with instrument names like Grand Piano and the like are the first things to try. It's even more misleading that in the Channel Strip meter it looks like there's audio playing, when it's really MIDI data that is being represented.
Matthieu, I will make one correction to Michael's post - choose Stereo > Logic > EXSP24 instead of Multi Channel. The Multi Channel version is used only with EXS instruments that have multiple virtual outputs; all of the instruments included with Logic are only stereo.

  • Can't play MIDI files on MacBook Pro 10.7.5

PLEASE help! I'm an old boomer and not too tech-savvy (know enough to get all messed up!).
I can't play MIDI files on MacBook Pro 10.7.5, and it's driving me CRAZY. I'm trying to play files from this website: http://www.hymntime.com/tch/ (just select a song under the "Titles" link), using Safari and/or Firefox browser -- to no good end!
What can I buy or add on that will enable the playing of MIDI files??
    Thank you!

I had heard that MIDI worked in Lion, but don't currently have it to test.
There's a somewhat involved way to get it working described here, or you may be able to download the files & play them locally.

  • Can't input MIDI file into project

    Hi,
I can't input MIDI files into a garageband project. I used to do this very easily, just drag & dropping the file into a blank GB project. That was on my previous older computer, with a previous version of GB. Now I just got a brand new iMac G5 with the most up to date version of GB, and it is not working, the MIDI files just will not drop. I even tried by doing an 'open with', selected GB as the software, and got a message saying 'Garageband cannot open files in the midi audio format' !!!
What's even crazier is that a couple weeks ago I had the same problem, and ****** around with trying different things, and at some point GB did accept the files ! But now it doesn't, and I have no idea what I did different then, probably nothing much.
Any ideas ? It sure is highly frustrating (trying to stay polite here) when a brand new, expensive machine cannot do the simple things that a 5 year old one could.

Have you tried different files? Maybe one that you're sure worked on your old computer? Some midi files can be tricky.

  • I can't play midi files.

    Hi,
I have the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime but I can't play midi files with Quicktime anymore. I have to remove iTunes to be able to play them. Does anyone know how to fix this so I can have iTunes and play midis too? They used to play on my computer so I don't know what's going on.
    Thanks!

Do you have QuickTimeMusic.qtx and QuickTimeMusicalInstruments.qtx (and their resource directory) in your Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem directory?
And you may need to remove some codec packs include QuickTime support.
And why you have to use QuickTime synthesizer for MIDI files? It uses obsolete technology and a small soundfont (from about 1997) and without proper support for Yamaha XG MIDI files?

  • Can I Export midi files out of garageband 1.1

Can I Export midi files out of garageband 1.1. If so, How?

unfortunately, like the previous 6 versions of GB, MIDI export is not supported. you would need to open the file in Logic in order to do that

  • Can't preview midi files?

    Hi
When I was on OS X 10.6.8 I could just preview a midi file for just selecting it and tap the space bar, as we do for preview a music, an image or a document.
But now I upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.4 and I can't preview midi files anymore.
When I tap the space bar it only shows the name, size of file and last time it was modified, but it won't play the midi file.
Someone knows how to resolve this?

  • Can't import midi files in garageband 11 after lion install?

I can't import or open midi files in garageband 11 ,tried reinstalling from my app dvd, will not allow, it is grayed out was using snow leopard and updated
to lion and thats when it quit also my quicktime pro 7 will no longer export midi.

Same here. Now that I think of it, I recently put in Logic Studio 8 and Garageband didn't open on it's own anymore. That was iLife'06. I then up-graded to iLife '08 and Garageband still doesn't open to a new project. The only way I can still open Garageband is to make a "template" out of one of their demos, then when that opens I strip the tracks out and start with new ones. By the way, I just tried to install XLN Audio's Addictive Drums. They work in Logic Studio, but do not open at all in Garageband. Error message says the plug-in is not "valid". So much for Garageband being easier than Logic.

  • Can't use .mid file with Logic Pro 9

I've been given a .mid file from someone I know but I'm not having any success trying to access the file in Logic.
The file should just contain a piano piece he had written.
When I first downloaded the file it automatically opened with QuickTime Player. I closed this then tried various ways of getting it into Logic. Firstly I went to File > Open, and chose the .mid file. This was the result:
"Damaged project or not a Logic Pro project!
    "Search for fragments?
"Damaged projects might create problems and crashes!"
    'Search' or 'Cancel'
When I click 'Search' I'm told:
    "Read error!
"This is not a Logic Pro project!
    "No tracks found"
    'Continue'
So, is the file empty (no tracks found)?
Or, because it was not created in Logic, it can't be opened in Logic. (I think he is using a PC, not confirmed yet - I also don't know what DAW he's using, yet)
That's ridiculous though, I thought MIDI was a universal language?
I also tried dragging the file straight into a Logic project, which tells me:
    "No tracks found"
Can someone please give me a little hand!? Thank you

Okay? Sorry, I have no experience with .mid files as I've never exported or imported them or moved them before... or even highlighted one before!
Two ideas, have your friend check and make sure the mid file plays on his/her system.
    and/or
If the mid file checks out good on his/her system have them compress (ZIP) the file and resend as it could have become corrupted during transfer. It can happen.
Your description of the file (zero length) sounds like it missed the last few bytes.

  • Can't play midi files anymore

I've upgraded to QT 7.2 and now any midi file I download is unplayable. All I get it "Mac OS error -208". What gives? I use a lot of midi files for my work and now - nothing. Does anyone know a fix?

I just ran into the same thing. Use to work fine, now it doesn't. I don't play midi often so I can't pin point it, but Michael might be on to something. I checked my log and on Sept. 20 I upgraded to QT 7.2. I just downloaded Mighty MIDI and it plays. Sounds bad though. And it plays find under Windows running on the same computer.
    Here's a link to a working file:

Can somebody else with QT 7.2 try it and report the results here? TIA

  • CAN'T IMPORT MIDI FILES INTO GARAGEBAND

Installed iLife '08 in order to use the new GarageBand. However, when I open up a new track and drop a MIDI file onto the window both the MIDI file and the track disappear. Any remedies?

  • How can I stop midi files being played by the QT plugin in IE6?

    Hi
Since reloading XP and QT 7.5 Pro, I have a problem I did not have before. In Explorer, my .mid midi files are associated with my preferred Karaoke player.
However, when I click on a .mid link on a web page in IE6, it uses the QT plugin to play it, rather than my preferred player. I have check my QT preferences file types, and midi files are definately NOT associated.
Firefox did the same, so I simply disabled the plugin, clicked a .mid link, and Firefox then asked me to choose a player. However, if I disable the plugin in IE6, when I click a .mid link, I just get a blank page and a baloon warning me the page is trying to use a disabled plug in. My only option at this point is to quit or re-enable the plugin.
    Can anybody please help?
    Thanks.

In case anyone is interested, I managed to solve this. Basically I disabled the QT plugin, went into Windows media player and assigned midi files to it. Then I went into Explorer and switched the files back to use my Karaoke player. THen I unassigned midi in Media player and reenabled the QT plugin. Bingo!

  • I can't Convert midi files into any other format

A few months ago, I was able to convert midi files into mp3 when one day, I updated iTunes using software update. Ever since the updates I had for my Mac it still hasn't work.
It has this error that won't allow me to convert. I talked to my friend wrldwzrd89 who is one of my friends and he said that it is because Apple had a piece of data missing allowing midis to be converted to mp3, or any other format.
Is this true or do you know the solution?

I can't tell you the exact reason why it doesn't work, but there is an article about this problem and a solution if you have QuickTime Pro:
iTunes: MIDI files cannot be converted in iTunes 6.0.3 and 6.0.4
Not the last sentence in the article. That usually means they're working on a fix.
No guarantee that it will be fixed in the next version however. We'll have to wait and see.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't import MIDI file

I am not able to drag a MIDI file into Garageband 3.0.4. I know I've been able to do this in the past but when I drag the file to a track or the blank area below the tracks nothing happens. Any ideas?

Some MIDI files are in a non-standard format. if you have QuickTime Pro you can open the file in QuickTime Player and then export it as a "Standard MIDI FIle" and it will work in GB. ~~Hang

  • Can't play mid files in Audigy2

I have installed my Audigy 2 ZX for months. I found it couldn't play midi files until recently. I had tried to cleansweep both the drivers and Creative's applications several times but no help. It is silent whenever I playback those files. What I noticed that the option of midi playback in Multimedia was blank. I had chosen different options but it return to blank next time.
    Anyone can help? TIA.
    Regards,
    Michael

    It should work.
. Double-click the speaker icon near the clock.
    2. Select Options>Properties, put dot in Playback circle.
    3. Put a checkmark in the Midi Synth box and click OK
    4. Make sure Midi Synth is not muted and that it's volume control is near the top.
Of course, you also need a player which will play midi files. Many do, but I prefer
    vanBasco's Player....free at http://www.vanbasco.com/
    Good luck,
