Can't HP Officejet pro 8100 do wifi access point?

Yesterday my HP Officejet pro 8100 arrived and I try to connect via wifi. I thinked that It need a infrastructure access point to print via wifi.
When I powered on the printer I osserved that It create an access point autonomously with SSID: HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro, with IPv4 address server, etc...
I was very happy and I printed a page with my smartphone samsung s4 connected directly with printer access point (not wifi direct but standard wifi).
Today no changed occurred but I can't use printer with its own access point, but only with an external wifi access point.
Someone can help me, please? It could be an hardware problem?
Thanks,
Luca
P.S. in web server I checked that "access point connectivity" (Punto di accesso wireless connettività in Italian) is checked.

Hello lucait
To print via WiFi you need to have a wireless router setup. Once you have the wireless router setup correctly you will have a SSID and Wepkey that will enable you to add devices to your network. The network will allow all your devices to communicate not just with each other but with the internet. At the moment your printer was not put in a network so instead of broadcasting on a network it is broadcasting on it's own network called HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro which is only good for a short period of time to allow you to setup your wireless. I am going to assume you have a wireless network and you are just needing assistance getting the printer setup on that network.
To set your printer up on a network you will need to reset your network defaults so your printer begins to broadcast that HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro network again. You can do this buy following the steps on the HP Support document Resetting the Network Settings. Once you have done this you can begin to install the software that came with your printer on your computer. You want to set the printer up wirelessly when the option arrives. The software should configure your printers wireless for you and put it on the network. Once completed you should be able to access your printer from all your devices as long as they are on the network.
I hope this helps resolve your wireless issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Can I print in black and white with an empty color cartridge on a HP Officejet Pro 8100 printer ?

Only the cyan cartridge is empty, all of the other 3 cartridges are fine. I ordered the cyan cartridge online but I need to print important documents today. The power button is blinking when I try to print.
I don't understand, black and white should not use a color cartridge to print.
Is there a trick so I can print before receiving the cyan cartridge ?

The Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter has the same print mechanism as its All-in-One counterpart the Officejet Pro 8600.  This printer has a printhead mechanism that contains 4 individual cartridges: CMYK (cyan/magenta/yellow/black).
One will have to replace the cartridge, if the unit provides a message of one of the colors being empty, before the unit will resume printing.  It is a maintenance mechanism to prevent the product from self-damage.  Hope this helps.

How can I get my HP Officejet Pro 8100 to work.
I'm using an  iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013) running Yosemite. I spent hours on the phone with HP who did their best and thought they had solved the problem Now it has stopped printing completely. Just says 'idle' or' connecting to printer' but never does.

  • More than one HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 printer

    Hi,
I need to buy two wireless printers to use with an iPad.
But the thing is: if I install TWO identical HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 under the same wifi network, how can I know which one I'll print? In other words, my concern is that when I'll want to print a document using the iPad it will show two printers, but both with the name "HP OfficeJet Pro 8100". Having in mind that each printer is located far from each other in my house, I need to print under the right printer.
Is it possible to change the name that appear on AirPrint so I can distinguish both Printers? Something like "Printer-Studio" and "Printer-Bedroom"? Or something that works somehow...
    Thanks.

Can you print in B & W when a color cartridge is out of ink? I have a HP Officejet Pro 8100. I had a large B&Q project and turned the printer on and Magenta was dead.  I could not find a way to print in B&W so I had to go out and buy a new cartridge.  Help

Sorry that you are having a problem with the ink cartridge.
No, you will not be able to print without the color cartridges.
The color cartridges mix together with the black to form a true black print.
So you will need to replace the Magenta first, in order for the printer to finish processing.

  • Mac OSX 10.9 and HP Officejet Pro 8100 Compatibility

Can we please get a driver for the HP Officejet Pro 8100 that is compatible with the Mac OSX 10.9? I bought the printer so that my roommate and I could share it to print wirelessly, but I am unable to do that without a compatible driver. Please develop one as soon as possible!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The Drivers are available via Apple Software Update,
In order to configure it wirelessly you may use the HP Easy Wireless Install app.
You may find a step by step guide in the following document:
    h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?sp4ts.oid=4337543&spf_p.tpst...
The app iself can be downloaded from the Mac App Store:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-easy-wireless-setup/id876495880?mt=12
If you experience any issues while trying to locate the pritner during the wireless configuration. restoring the network defaults for the printer can be done by pressing and holding both the Cancel ( ), the Wireless ( ), and the Power ( ) buttons for three seconds.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8100 unable to communicate with printer, but still prints

    Hello,
I have an Officejet Pro 8100 connected to a Windows XP SP3 computer via USB.
When installing  I downloaded the latest drivers off the HP webiste and followed the instructions for installing the printer and connecting via USB.  While installing I only installed the basic print driver.
The printer appeared to install correctly.
When printing (test page, or from other programs such as Word or Excell), the printer will actually print the requested document, however, an error box will pop up saying "Unable to communicate with printer".  The only option on the error box is the cancel the current print job.
Before cancelling the print job, even though the printer actually printed the document, I can still see the document in the print queue until I click the "Cancel" button on the error box.
I have deleted the printer, uninstalled and reinstalled twice, but the issue persists.
    Any ideas?

    Hi aconway,
I hate to hear you are having issues.  This could be caused by a port issue, bad USB cable/hub/switch connection, or possibly a spooler or driver issue.  Click Here to run the print and scan doctor (select OS, then click the + sign beside utility diagnostic tools, click the download button next to print and scan doctor). If you would like to learn more about your product, Click Here.
    Suggestions:
    1. Run the print and scan doctor to identify any port issues
    2. Connect unit directly to PC with new USB cable that meets specifications(no longer than 4-6ft).
    3. Remove any hubs or switches if being used.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8100 printer. I removed the paper tray this morning to load paper and now I can't get it to slide back in all the way. • HP Officejet Pro 8100 - AirPrint - wireless

My HP Officejet Pro 8100 had been working just fine with AirPrint, but then I changed my wireless router and I've forgotten how the printer was configured originally.
I only use the 8100 with my apple iPhone 4S, it's not connected to any computer and I'm sure it was never connected to any computer when I originally installed it.
Question is : how do I set it all up again from scratch? There's no 'set up' screen on the printer, so how is it done?
I 'know' the printer has to 'connect' to my wireless router but how is it done without a computer connected ?
My router is a BT Homehub4, and it works fine with my iPhone and ipad.
Thanks in advance for advice - I have searched for info, but everything seems to point to a need to have a computer physically connected but I'm sure this wasn't the case originally - just switch on and AirPlay worked!
Maybe I need to 'somehow' uninstall airplay on my iPhone?
    HELP!
    This question was solved.

Well, I'm going round in circles now....
I press the WPS button on the BT Homehub 4 and a red colour icon on the front of the hub comes on and flashes for a few minutes.
Meanwhile on the printer the blue wifi icon just flashes on and off.
By pressing two buttons on the printer I've printed out a "HP Network Configuration page " which says WPS PIN (and a series of numbers) 'good for 5 minutes, blah blah blah'.
Further down the sheet it does show the router listed with info - channel, privacy RSN WPA-PSK, encrypt AES/TKIP, signal -62, WPS Yes.
But still no AirPrint print - and wireless status says 'disconnected', communication mode 'infrastructure', Network name (SSID) hpsetup.
Blimey, this ain't easy is it!
    What next????
    Steve.

  • HP officejet pro 8100 not printing documents when asked, and slow to respond.

My Officejet Pro 8100 has allways been used wireless. It allways had a lag when asked to print and producing the document. Often the unable to connect to printer message comes up, then shortly latter it started to print.
We have now switched to Vergin Media ISP. The printere was set up to the new network as before no problem. The router is lacated downstairs by by our TV where the cable enters the house. Our 2 pc's are now wireless due to this (one windows XP and one Windows 7). Then there's Ipads etc.
Conectivity is not a problem the pcs are located in our study with the printer upstairs. My Ipad works in the Garden so theres plenty of range. All devices are on the same conection.
The problem with slow printing is now worse. Ask to print and often nothing happens. Switch printer off/on and it may print the last comand of not. It may accept the next command to print or not. Indescrimnently it may print 'misssed prints' at any time.
Basically it cannot be relied on to print when asked to, really frustrating!! The printers wireless indicator is lit its conected to the network. Any ideas as this is a real pain. Remote printing from a phone is a no go as it probably wont happen.
We need to print and it happen.

    Hello @Ants9,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the slow printing issue that you're experiencing with your networked HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter from your Windows computers and other devices. I understand that this issue began with your original router and now is occuring with your new network. I am going to run you through some troubleshooting steps below to resolve this issue.
Step 1: Run Print and Scan Doctor:
To verify that your printer is properly detected on your Windows XP and Windows 7 computers I would like you to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. This Tool will run on your computers and 'fix printing' issues for you. Should any driver, connection, or software conflict be found than the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool will attempt to resolve those conflicts for you.
Please click here to download the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. Please download this Tool on your Windows XP and Windows 7 computers.
Once the Tool has completed, please test printing again. Should the issue persist, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Powercycle Network:
First, unplug the power cable to your Router
Once your Router is unplugged, turn off your printer
    Next, shut down your computer
After 30 seconds to 1 minutes, plug your Router back in
    Next, turn on your printer
    Turn on the computer
After a few minutes the internet connection will return. Please check on your Windows computers and ensure that you're able to browse to websites before continuing. Once the network is up and running again please test printing to check the printing speeds.
Should the issue persist, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 3: Update Firmware:
There is chance that corrupted programming in your printer could be causing the slow printing issue. Therefore, I am going to have you update the Firmware Version on your printer.
Please click here to download the latest programming on your printer. Once the website opens select the Download button on the top left. Follow any onscreen instructions to send the Firmware Update to the printer. This update can be run from either the Windows XP or Windows 7 computers.
Please test printing again to verify if everything is now working as it should be.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!
