Can't import a jpeg file to iPhoto

Hello,
I'm having trouble importing a jpeg file from another user to my iPhoto. We are both admins, file sharing is on for both users, read and write is on for both users. (I toggled file sharing on/off to see if it would update, and no changes).
In the file sharing, the shared folders are documents, pictures, and downloads folders. The jpeg file is filed on the desktop and in the pictures folder. When I do a File/Import to Library, and search for the jpeg file, it comes up greyed out.
My last option is that I emailed the jpeg from the other user's iPhoto to myself. I was going to go into my email and see if I could save the jpeg and try to import it that way?
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you tried just dragging the file into the open iPhoto Library window? What version of iPhoto are you using?
What color mode (RGB, grayscale, CMYK, etc.) is it and what color profile is embedded (sRGB, Adobe RGB, Dot Gain 20%-grayscale, CMYK)?

  • Can't import raw photo files to iPhoto from my new Canon S90

Just bought a new Canon point & shoot, the S90. It allows you to shoot raw, which I did. When I went to upload the image files to iPhoto, I got an error message -- files could not be imported; they may be an unrecognized file type.
I've uploaded raw files from my Canon 40D SLR to iPhoto successfully.
Why the error message with raw files from a new point/shoot?
    Greg

RAW support is specific to each camera and until Canon gives Apple the specs and Apple sees enough demand to move that new RAW above the others
See this Aperture thread for a long discussion including several hopeful long term solutions to teh entire issue of each RW being different - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2267766&tstart=0

PS - it took about 10 seconds to fond a google thread indicating that Apple does not yet support the S90

  • I have imported a jpeg photo into iPhoto and cannot get the Places map to let me fix a position on the map. It remains disabled for my photo. Checking out the Help file has not given any solution.

I have imported a jpeg photo into iPhoto  and cannot get the Places map tp show. I have tried the Help file and the information was not helpful. Can anyone give advice here?

I am using iPhoto 9.1.1. When I select thephoto, then Places I get the window (Places to lookup disabled). When I hit theInfo button I get the size an JPEG notification, and  Faces and Key words. The “reverse” of thepicture shows a window with Rotate, Hide, Trash etc.
When I select Places, get the Google worldmap, and this case a pin on Sydney Australia showing that eighteen photos arecorrectly placed. I am unable to make the connection to San Francisco wherethis particular photo was taken on a very modern camera.

  • When I try to import a folder of jpeg files into iPhoto, only some are imported. I get the message "The following files could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)" I am running iPhoto '09 ver. 8.1.2 on OSX 10.5.8. They are all RGB.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Viewing both RAW and JPEG files in iPhoto (or somehow on a Mini)

I'll be traveling later this year and I'm looking to get a tablet so I can view and do some light editing of my images while I'm on the road.
If I use the new Apple SD card reader to download image files from my camera to the iPod Minin, it is my understanding that by default it brings over both the RAW and JPEG versions of the same images (my camera is taking both types with each image).
Will these then show up as two separate images in iPhoto? The reason I'm asking is because if I have to bring over the RAW files, I want some way of then deleting them off my iPad because they take up to much HD space.
No one I've talked to at Apple seems to know if there's a way to bring over just the JPEG files I want when using the SD card reader, which seems like a huge oversight in functionality to me.
    Thanks. David

Leonie, you have pretty much confirmed what I found out as well.
When using the Apple SD card reader there is no way to only import JPEG files when there are corresponding RAW files on the card. The iOS or photo import app treats them as one image and imports both files together, regardless of the fact that most apps will not read or edit the RAW files and also that they take up a huge amount of space.
I've only found one way of getting rid of the Raw files, but still 'keeping' the Jpegs: import them all to the iPad, then edit the images in an app like Snapseed, then do a 'save as' (which Snapseed does by default) so you've created new Jpeg files; you can then go back and delete the originals.
That seems like a whole lot of work to get around the iPad's lack of functionality, and because of this I'm looking at an Asus Nexus 7 tablet instead. Besides all this, the Nexus allows me to copy files back to a flash drive or memory card, adding to it's usefulness.
I think this is a huge design flaw on Apple's part. It's one they could easily fix by giving you a choice to only importing the Jpeg files, or just Raw or both. Not a big deal really.
I sort of grok the 'paradigm' behind it, which is to have people work with data, images, or projects, and not files. But in this case, it is not serving people, especially more serious photographers. It makes me suspect if the developers even asked photographers what they would need from the iPad--sort of placing it back in the toybox, as opposed to being a real tool for photographers.

  • Canon IXUS 950 won't import large AVI files into iPhoto

The new canon Ixus 950 IS wont import large (over 50mb) AVI files in iPhoto, why not?
They sit on the SD card and then sometimes subsequent pics and video's don't upload.
If there are say, 3 x 40mb files they dont upload either... After waiting ages the box pops up, unable to import.
I can individually import the AVI files under 50mb
I also note that the hard drive icon for the camera does not appear on the desktop or the finder so I could not 'drag' them in either...
    Any ideas?
    David

I have a similar problem with importing large AVIs from my Canon A610. iPhoto would import everything else (usually) except the large AVIs, which it claims is unreadable. In this particular case (~470MB file), it plays in QuickTime, I've resaved it using QT (still won't import) and converted it from MJPEG to Cinepak (still won't import). I'm now considering cutting the AVI up into smaller chunks and importing those... but any other options before that?
Misc computer details: Main HD is 120GB with 30 for Boot Camp, 80 remains for Mac OS X, but the iPhoto Library is on an external HD (also 120GB, same model as internal HD except not SATA) formatted to FAT32. Would 10.4.11 make a difference here?

  • Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library?

Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library on an external hard drive to my current iPhoto library?  The icon on the hard drive appears greyed out when I try via Import.

Open the older library and export the Photos from it to the Finder (File -> Export) and switch to the new Library and import those.
Or, use  iPhoto Library Manager to move the photos, plus all the versions and associated metadata to the new Library.

  • How can I import an ibook file back into iBook Author?

I exported an ebook from iBook Author thinking it is the equivalent of saving the file.
I did not save the file, I only exported it and than exited the program.
    My active file is vannished.
I need to make some adjustments to the ebook, but can not bring it back up.
Is there a way that I can re-import the iBook file back into iBook Author?
When I open iBook Author and try to open the exported file the program does not recognise the ibook file...
    Thanks for your help!

Check for previous versions of that book in iBA....even if not saved.
You can dig into the .ibooks file by changing the suffix to zip, but you'll have to manually extract what you can from assets you find. Please only do this with your own books.

    Hi,
How can I import a .swf file in Adobe Flash CS4?
    Thanks.

you can use file/import but that would be a mistake.
you should "load" your swf, not import it.
if you want to load it and need help, are you using as2 or as3?

How can I import iPhone Garageband Files to Mac Garageband? I've found lots of threads about this but no direct answers/how to.
    Thanks

With the latest build of GarageBand on the device, move to the My Songs view, tap the Edit button at top right, select the shaking song you want to export, then tap the sharing arrow symbol at top left, tap iTunes, then GarageBand.
Connect the device to iTunes, select it in the left-hand column, then select the Apps tab. You should find the exported file in the File Sharing area of the GarageBand app and from there you can copy it to your computer, then open it with the GarageBand application.

  • Can't import .mxf video files in Premiere CS5

    Hi all!
I've just installed Premiere CS5 and imported some .mxf files to a project. But premiere just recognizes the audio tracks, it don't recognizes the video one.. it's like it was a simple audio file.. and i can see the video outside premiere.. anyone knows why is this happening?
With cs4 i never had this problem.
    Thanks in advance!
    André Inácio

Assuming you're not using the trial version :
if you can't import XDCAM EX files using the Media Browser, which will only import what Premiere needs, then there is something wrong with your installation.
PPro CS5.02 woks with all flavors of XDCAM EX files including those from the 350/320 cameras.
