Can't import a single song into itunes

I was trying to import some of my old cd-singles into iTunes, and the column next to the name of the song where the check box should be is not there. I have to import the whole cd and then go back and delete the songs I do not want that *****... Please advise. iTunes 10.2.2 on a mackbook pro 2.4 2010

In iTunes 10.5, if you go into Preferences, under General check "Show list checkboxes". This worked for me.

My songs are on a Time Capsule (2008 model)

Same problem here. iTunes just won't import some of my mp3s and I can't figure out why. Most of my mp3s work respectively iTunes adds them but some of them won't - just nothing happens either through adding via the menu or drag&drop them. They just don't appear. Oh yeah and the mentioned mp3s work perfectly in winamp...

  • Help, I can't import my CD songs to itunes for Windows

Help, I can't import my CD songs to itunes for Windows.
My computer crashed. All my songs on CDs were titled by numbers "01", "02" etc. So I have many songs on various CDs titled "01" for example.
When I've tried to import various CDs, it seems like the different songs having the same names are confusing itunes, and my song tracks are getting mixed and muddled.
What can I do? Thanks for any help.

  • Can't import some CD's into iTunes library

I have the latest verson of iTunes on my MacBook. When I try to import some CD's into the iTunes library, it ejects the CD back out. It doesn't happen to every CD; just some. What is causing this, and how can I import these CD's into iTunes?

Thanks for the suggestion. CD's are clean; no finger prints or dust. Still can't import into iTunes. A little background-- I had iTunes on a PC previously. When I transferred the library to my MacBook, I noticed some CD's were not transferred. This is one of the CD's I had in iTunes on my PC, but is now not in iTunes on my MacBook. Why can I not add this and some other CD's to iTunes on my MacBook?

  • Has anyone else noticed that you can't download a single song via ITunes Match on the iPod app?

The ability to download a single song has been removed. Now it only downloads if you're playing it. So if I want to download a few different songs to play I have to go back into the app at the end of each song and select a new one to play. I can't create a playlist by downloading all the songs I want to listen to. Basically it has become a one song at a time service. Aka worthless. This needs to be fixed. If I can't get the songs I want onto the phone then why would I do anything but sync with my library since I can do that all at once. This may be the most unexplainable change I've seen on any apple update.

I have an audiobook that is over 100 tracks long and a few GBs in size.  I simply cannot believe that there is no way that I can download a single track from that without having to make a playlist for the whole thing.  I simply cannot stream it because my cell provider's 3G speeds just aren't fast enough to allow any tracks to be played without skips and my docks won't recognize a streaming track being played as legit so I can't listen through my car unless the track is downloaded.  Plus I don't want to eat up many GBs on my phone when I only need a couple of tracks per day.
I don't know why Apple decided to take away the individual track download feature that iOS5 had.  It was perfect for me.  This new system in iOS 6+ just doesn't work and makes me want to quit using iTunes Match altogether (since I can't just manually drag the tracks I want to listen to to my phone before I leave the house).  Maybe it was because Apple didn't like seeing all of the little iCloud buttons next to each track?  Perhaps just give us a setting to turn it back on if we want to.  Apple has ruined iTunes Match for me.  I really hope they bring this feature back in the next iOS update.

  • Can't import QT compatibile videos into iTunes 6

Here is what it says about importing video into iTunes 6 in the Help menu:
You can also watch other QuickTime-compatible videos (for example, files that end in ".mov" or ".mp4") in iTunes. Drag a video into the iTunes window, as you would any song file. Videos have a display icon next to them in the library.
I have tried everything to get a .mov and a .mp4 movie into iTunes and I can't make it happen. Anyone have any luck with this?
    Dave

I assume these files play fine in QuickTime?
Have you tried Add to Library from the File menu (Command O).
If that doesn't work, try a Save As from QT. You should then be able to import the new file fine.
I did notice that changing the extension (from .mov to .mp4 in my case) rendered the video un-importable. You don't get any feedback from iTunes either - it just doesn't work.
    Good luck!

  • How can I import mpeg files downloaded into itunes?

How can I import mpeg song files downloaded into itunes?

    Where are your MPEG stored?
I have hundreds of old MPEGs stored in my nexternal drive, but unfortunatly i was not able import them into iMovie. I did the following trick: I created a new set of a folder and subfolder and called it "Virtual_CAM/DCIM" and saved it on my desktop. Then went to Disk Utilities>File Menue>New>Disk Image from Folder. Then selected the folder on my desktop and clicked enter. I moved the .dmg file to my external (or just keep it on your desktop). I clicked on the .dmg file. It shoud be visible on the Finder. Open your Imovie and import as you do from your camera.

  • Can anyone help me import over 3000 songs into iTunes?

I can't "find" over three thousand songs on  my computer and back-up hard drive.  When I open my library it lists many songs but there are exclamtion points next to most.  I fiirst tried Apple support common problems and none of the remedies solved my proble.  I am not even sure how many iTunes files I have between my laptop and back-up hard drive.  Sure could use some help?  When I try to play a song from the libaray with an excalmation point it offeres the opotion to find the location.  I of course can do this but it will take me for ever to do one song at a time.  Thanks.

Uga, this is a link from Scott Patrie in the iTunes for Windows forum that I think may help resolve the poor sound issue.

  • I can't drag and drop songs into iTunes

I got this problem since I updated iTunes to latest version, I'm running Windows 7 32 bits and i don't freaking have a Wacom tablet

I found the problem. I have VMware fusion that is hosting Window XP on the iMac. When the fusion is running the CD player is not seen in OS. By quitting Fusion I can now insert a CD and the disk icon appears on the OS screen. Now I can bring up iTunes and import the audio and continue as before. The one exception is I cannot bring in a photo of the album cover as before I have to drag the photo out of iPhoto and onto the desk top. Then I can drag it into the artwork patch in the iTunes/ info window.

  • Can't import ripped video files into itunes

I stupidly made a copy of itunes - the entire directory structure - to a new external drive by simply dragging all the directories to tne new drive. this seems to have broken something because now i cannot import ripped vid files from external source and the movies & tv files i bought from iTunes store are also unplayable. Any idea on how to fix this?
I tried using the original library but that seems broken too. luckily all music files are accessible, mainly because i ripped them from purchased CDs.
    help, please

took a little time to check - the directory structure looks ok altho the music directory is a little screwy - iTunes Music holds artist names wirh albums below, but there is also a generic "music" directory that has a few artist directories that are duplicates of the abovementioned artist directories; not necessarily in a consistent manner. no rhyme nor reason that i can discern, yet.
the original problem remains - i get no response when import ripped dvd (m4v format). no response as before i made the copy - no indication that the import is happening and no movies show up on the movie tab in itunes (and no movies in itunes movie directory).
similarly, downloaded tv progs also don't play in iTunes are are not in a recognized format by Front Row ("format not recognized")
    help, please!

  • How can I import an m3u playlist into iTunes that intentionally contains duplicate tracks? I want the duplicates in this case.

For instance, if my M3u file looks like the 2 lines below, only one copy of the mp3 file is imported. I'd like the same track to be imported twice.
    Back To Black.mp3
    Back To Black.mp3
btw, the reason I'd like this to work is that I use a separater track in playlists between groups of similar tracks. This separater is not being imported correctly as is being unhelpfully recognised as an unwanted duplicate.
    Any advice appreciated.

    I just did the following.
Created a m3u file with a series of tracks with one entry duplicated.
Made a new empty playlist in a test iTunes library which did not contain the files and dragged the m3u file to that playlist.
It created a duplicate playlist entry for that one duplicated track but of course it points to the same file.  If you really want iTunes to duplicate the file you will have to trick it into thinking it is a different file.  Using your library management preferences (which are identical to mine) you will have to duplicate the file in Finder so you really do have two files and add it again.  Perhaps if iTunes was managing the media it would not behave that way and might add the file twice since dragging to iTunes with default preferences settings just places a copy on the iTunes folder and leaves the original in place, so you'd be dong hte equivalent of dragging twice (I'd have to test to check this since I don't use default settings either).  With your settings it just refers to the original wherever it is.  Hopefully I've phrased that well enough.

  • Can't get old songs into iTunes library

When I first started downloading iTunes it was going through my computer and putting my old songs into the library. Once it got done with the first 34 songs it quit putting any other songs into the library. Now I can't get any more of the songs into the library. How can I get the other songs into iTunes?

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
