Can't import any addresses into Address Book to save my life

If my life were on the line, and its not, but if it were, and someone said the only way I could live would be to import addresses from a text file and into Address Book, I would be dead. Totally dead.
What I need to do is import my contacts from an old PC-based Palm Desktop software into MAC Address book. I have tried exporting both tab and comma delimited files on the PC and importing into the mac. No dice.
Next, I downloaded the Mac version of palm desktop and imported the text file into MAC-palm desktop. That worked, a little messy, but it worked. From there, I tried to export a tab-delimited file from MAC Palm Desktop and into MAC Address Book - DENIED!
Finally, I exported a VCF file from the MAC Palm Desktop to Import into MAC Address Book. That worked, BUT, every field has double quotes around it like "THIS". Not satisfactory.
Can anyone suggest anything?

Can't import any images into iPhoto

Hello,
I am on my honeymoon and trying to offload pictures from my camera but have found that I can not import any pictures into iPhoto. I am unable to import any file, not just the ones on my camera. I have tried jpgs, gifs, and pngs from various sources and none of them import.
So far I have tried holding down option and creating a new library, deleting the plists, rebooting, and reapplying the latest iPhoto update. Does anyone else have suggestions for me to try?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Can't import any images into lightroom 5

Working away in my studio and suddenly I can't import any images into lightroom 5 (version5.5) for macbook pro os x 10.9.5

I somehow managed to change my destination folder in Lightroom when importing images and could not copy to the "location" (or as the right panel indicates, the "destination").
So adjusted my destination folder and am back to importing as usual.

I can't import any songs into iTunes.

I can't import any songs into iTunes. I can drag and drop but nothing will happen. Songs show up when a search is done but songs cannot be played or located in iTunes. I think this has something to do with the recent update because I have songs imported into iTunes from December.

I found the problem. I have VMware fusion that is hosting Window XP on the iMac. When the fusion is running the CD player is not seen in OS. By quitting Fusion I can now insert a CD and the disk icon appears on the OS screen. Now I can bring up iTunes and import the audio and continue as before. The one exception is I cannot bring in a photo of the album cover as before I have to drag the photo out of iPhoto and onto the desk top. Then I can drag it into the artwork patch in the iTunes/ info window.

Suddenly can't import any photos into iPhoto!

Suddenly and inexplicably, I cant import any photos into my iPhoto program. iPhoto has worked fine for years. Now, all of a sudden, no matter how I try to import them (either from my desktop, or from my digital camera), I get the error message: Couldn't create: /Volumes/name of external drive/iPhoto Library/2006/08/21/name of photo. When I click "OK" on the error message dialogue box, I then get the error message "Unreadable files: 1 The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)." I am reasonably certain that of the 250 or so J-Peg photos I'm presently trying to import, from 2 different cameras, ALL of them can't be corrupt.
First, I tried repairing my disk permissions on my G4. Then, I tried reinstalling iLife 5.0.2. Then I tried reinstalling the OSX 10.3.9 combo pack, and iPhoto 5.0.4. Then I tried again repairing my disk permissions with disk utility. All proved useless to solve the problem.
I also tried dragging my iPhoto preferences to the trash. But I found to my horror that this action completely obliterates all of my iPhoto albums and photo groupings. I did not attempt to import any new photos once I discovered this, as I was fearful doing so might render my loss of my albums permanent. So I retrieved my old preferences from the trash, thus saving my albums and groupings, but also keeping the original importing problem.
What can I do to fix this importing problem without obliterating my albums and groupings? Lots of work has gone into the grouping and categorizing of my albums and photos. Though it would be easy to reimport all of my photos, I would not want to begin to take the time to recreate all of my albums and groupings from scratch. Is there any way these groupings can be preserved? If not, there should be! It's idiotic to think that Apple might not consider all of the time the grouping of albums and songlists represents to the typical user of iPhoto or iTunes.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I've found a solution to this problem, thankfully. But it didn't come via rebuilding the iPhoto library.
I didn't want to to a manual rebuild of my original iPhoto library, since I was cautioned that it would involve losing my albums and all notations and filings I'd made concerning my photos. Before I first tinkered with the library, I made a backup copy of the original-defective library onto another external drive. Then I did one more complete "automatic rebuild" of the original/defective library, and found to my horror that the library wouldn't even open any more. It would send up an error message when I'd try to click on it's icon to open the library.
I went back to the backup copy of my iPhoto library (containing all of my albums, groupings, and etc.) and did what I hadn't thought to do in the first place: I simply attempted to import photos (my original difficulty) into this backup iPhoto library. It worked perfectly!!! All photos imported into this backed up copy as if it were the original. And now that I have trashed my "original" and totally defective former iPhoto library, this backup copy is now my new iPhoto library.
I guess whatever was wrong with the old library was shaken out just by making a backup copy. I'm afraid that's about as technical an explanation as I can offer. But maybe doing the same process will help another of you suffering from a similar problem with importing photos. Anyway, a hearty thanks to everyone who responded to this original query of mine. Need Help - Can't Import ANY Images into LR4.4 Since OS Upgrade

I can't import ANY images to LR 4.4 since upgrading my Mac OS to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 this past week. I downloaded LR5 Beta and all works well. I deleted LR5 Beta to see if it was conflicting with LR4.4 somehow and rebooted. Still no change. I can't import from my card reader (that says it can't even read the files) or from a location on my hard drive. I am beyond lost and frustrated.
The error message for importing is "Could not copy a file to requested location."
I need ideas. I am afraid to deleted and reinstall as I don't want to lose all my folders within. I looked all over the web and can't figure it out.
If you need any other info, please let me know. I am hopeful that someone can help me.

I added LR5 again and that works perfectly, but LR4 is still not working properly. I opened the preferences and catalog settings to compare...and they all look the same. I am beyond baffled. I don't plan on dropping more money for LR5, so I need LR4 to get back to working properly.

Can't import csv document into address book

Hi folks, I can't import a csv document into address book. Just get a spinning wheel. I am an OSX 10.5.9 (Leopard) I exported a csv file from Excel then tried to import but nothing happens except a spinning wheel some times.
Any thoughts?

You need to have setup your document with the appropriate fields for each piece of data, otherwise Address Book can't import it. If you take your current Address Book and export all the contacts as a single vCard file, then use this online tool (http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/) to convert them to a CSV file, you can open the result in Excel or Pages to see how your document should be setup when you export it to CSV for importing into Address Book.

Can you import ANY sound into Ultrabeat?

If you can, then what "format" does the "sound" have to be in. Then, I am assuming you can simply "import" whatever sound you created. Correct?

Yes, familiar with it needing to be AIFF or WAV. My problem is this, I am trying to chop up string and voice samples into small bits. I can chop them up but cannot IMPORT them into Ultrabeat. I got close then all I heard was static.

I hope some nice Mac user will help me, please. I am trying to import anything into IMovie and no version is working. I started with vob files-- (precious home movies that were put on DVD), converted them to .mov and then even bought a Mac converter for $40 and now have avi and Mp4 versions. When I try to import, IMovie sees the files, but they are gray and can't be clicked on! Its so frustrating, I have been trying many different things on two different Mac's for three days now! I may have to, in desperation, do this project on a PC at work after hours. hope its something simple, thanks nice Mac users (I am a newbie)

HT2486 Can I import a batch of email addresses into Address Book?

I have a lsit of some 1,600 email addresses I'd like to otganise in Address Book in order to send the same email to multiple members in a group. My question is, can I import all these email addresses from Excel, or will I have to copy and paste them one by one?

Importing mass email addresses into Address Book?

My boss just got a new Blackberry and wants to sync her contacts. Unfortunately, she is not very good at making address book entries.
Is there a way to quickly import any email address into Address Book? She doesn't need the everything edited with name, address, etc...since she knows most of these people by their email address more than their first/last names!

They aren't located anywhere. She has all her email messages archived in Mail.app for the last 3 years so she'd like to extract them from there.
Is there some kind of built-in email address list in Mail.app, because it seems to auto complete any email address she types despite it not being in the Apple address book app.

Importing Mac OS 9/Multiple Users/Netscape 4.8 addresses into Address Book

my wife has made the leap from Mac OS 9.2.2 to Mac OS X 10.4.3, and we're trying to figure out how to import her Netscape 4.8 addresses into Address Book. The complicating factor is that her computer ran with Multiple Users under Mac OS 9; as the Classic environment doesn't seem to be able to run as a particular Mac OS 9 "Multiple User", we're unable to run Netscape within the Classic environment as her "Multiple User" to allow the export of her addresses for subsequent importation by Address Book. We did find an existing LDIF file on the hard drive at Users:her user:Preferences:Netscape Users:her e-mail:Contacts Export.ldif that we were able to import, but it didn't seem to contain a complete set of her addresses.
Can you recommend a way to obtain her full set of addresses? Do you know which Netscape file contains the addresses? If need be, that file can be copied, selectively edited, and its addresses can be manually reëntered; but naturally a less time-consuming solution would be preferable. Alternatively, would it be possible to run within the Classic environment as a particular "Multiple User", so that the addresses could be exported within Netscape?

Here’s a summary of what I wound up doing. I downloaded the current version of Netscape for Mac OS X at http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.2/mac/macosx/sea/Netscape-MachO. dmg.gz and used it to import the addresses from the Users:her user:Preferences:Netscape Users:her e-mail:pab.na2 file. (It turns out that the pab.na2 file has the latest address book data.) This was done by cancelling the New Account Setup, then choosing Tools/Import …/Address Books/Communicator 4.x. I then exported the just-imported data by going to Netscape 7.2’s Address Book window, selecting the “nab” address book, and choosing Tools/Export … in LDIF format, followed shortly by importing the newly created LDIF file into Address Book. Unfortunately the groups didn’t survive the exodus, and had to be manually reässembled within Address Book. There also seemed to be minor data loss in Notes fields — namely, all Notes text following a colon went missing. However, that was readily worked around by restoring via copy/paste from Netscape 7.2 to Address Book. Given these caveats, the Netscape 4.8 address book data have now been reconstituted as Address Book data. I hope that this summary might prove useful to anyone else who might be facing a similar task, and would appreciate it if anyone who finds an easier way to do this would post their findings.

Can you import more pictures into a photo book that is already in work? I have already spent many hours trying to create a photo album but came across more pictures to choose from. However, I don't know how to get these new pictures into the "list" of potential photos for the book in progress. I can't stand the thought of having to start over by selecting the 2000 photos plus these new ones and starting all over again!?!

I have found more pictures that I want to include. They are, say, in a folder on my desktop. I can't simply pull a picture (or the folder) from the desktop and insert it into the album or the list of potential pictures across the top.
to import into an existing book (which is just a special kind of album) simply drag the photos from their source (the desktop in your example) to the book in the source pane on the left (not to the book in the library window but the book icon in the source pane
Likewise to use photos from your iPhoto library just drag them from the library to the book
I also tried imported the pictures, from the desktop folder, into iphoto, creating new event. I don't think there is a way of accessing that new event from the album in work/progress.

That is correct - there is no connection between the source of the book and the book - the book stands alone and you add direct to it in the source pane exactly as you would add to any other album

I can't import any files or folders into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 projects. When I select import and then either files or folders, I am able to navigate to the drive where the media is being stored, but then when I scroll to locate the files or folders the drive disappears. This problem began as an intermittent problem, but now I cannot import any files or folders. This problem started when I upgraded my operating system to Yosemite version 10.10.2 on my mid-2010 Mac Pro running with 16 GB of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. Can anyone help me figure out and solve this serious problem? Thanks!

Then just drag the files/folders from your hard drive into FCP. Don't use the IMPORT option...just drag and drop.
The problem started when you installed an OS that doesn't support FCP 7. So if you want things to work smoothly, it's best to go back to an OS that did support FCP 7. Yosemite was written without taking FCP 7 functionality in mind, so it isn't fully functional. It might not do one thing for someone...but works for you in that respect. But then you can't do something else. The ways it doesn't work is always random. Or it might work great for some people, because they don't use functions that might no longer work....so they don't notice it.

Can't import any .psd files into after effects.

Hello all.
I was using CS5 master collection without issue, for a year.
Decided to upgrade to the CS6 master collection and that’s when the problems began.
For example, I can’t import any .psd files into AE.
All files are saved in RGB mode.
The previous files were made on CS5.
I made a new .psd file in CS6 with just a couple of layers on it, couldn’t import that either.
I’ve tried Ctrl-alt-shift to delete preferences, that had limited success. I can import a file and do a little bit of work on it but as soon as I close the file down and opened it up again, it does not recognise the .psd file.
The errors I’m getting in AE are many
For example:
After Effects warning: Reading past end of file
After Effects error: Could not open intro.psd because it is not a valid Photoshop document
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message:<8104><dynamiclink><5>C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro exe
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialise PSL
I have un-installed and re-installed many times.
I’m using Windows 8, with 32ram. Hard drives C: 100mg, D: 2 Tb
I’ve tried installing on both drives, still the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there in Adobe Land have any ideas?

It actually happens with every .psd file regardless of size or specs.
All the other programs in the CS6 master collection work fine, except for AE and PS.
I tried the small file. Created a small file, 100 px by 100px 72dpi, just with a gradient background. Same thing, not enough memory to initialise PSL.
I got the adobe cleaner, and re-installed on my system (again) .... same thing.
As long as I open AE with doing ctrl-alt-shift every single time or export layers from PS individually I seem to be OK.
The problem is far from solved, so I guess i just have to put up with workarounds.
