Can't Import AVI Uncompress

When Import AVI Uncompress Adobe Premiere 2.0 Is Close

Along with Eddie's suggestion, take a long look at your I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, size, type and free space. AVI (Uncompressed) will be a monster file. It is also likely that your system is choiking on it.

  • Premiere CS5 import avi clips without sound. How can I import avi clips with sound without convert?

    Dear Adobe Forum,
I have the following problem, please help:
I would like to import avi clips in adobe premiere. All clips have the same avi codec. But unfortunately my adobe premiere does not import the sound of a few
avi clips. It is wired because about 10 out 70 avi clips which have all the same avi codec does not work with sound in premiere CS5. In the timline premiere import the video and audio line but there are no audio waves in the about 10 avi clips. additonally premiere plays the 10 avi clips in the source monitor without sound. Furthermore when I open the 10 avi files without adobe premiere they have sound, but with premiere there are no sound in the 10 avi clips.
What can I do, so that I can import all avi files with sound. I do not want to convert each of the avi files because then they have not a good quality and it is to complicated and it takes to much time to convert all files in this video project and in the other video project in my future.
Consequently How can I import all avi files so that they have immediately sound? Do I have to change some premiere settings?
    Thank you in advance
    Leonardo

  • Can't import avi file

I have some video shot in 1080p but I can't import them into Premiere. They are H.264 .avi files. How do I troubleshoot this? I installed a codec pack for Windows 7 that was supposed to solve the problem.
    Thanks for you help.

    My system [no overclocking]:
    CPU: I7-940@ 2.93
GPU: GTX 680 FTW 2 GB
    Mobo: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
    RAM: 24GB [6 x 4 GB] Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600
    PSU: Corsair 750TX 750 W
    Window 7 Pro 64

As we are seeing more cameras (mostly lower-end consumer models) adopting this non-standard arrangement, I would guess that when this movement reaches some critical mass, Adobe will retool the code to look for H.264 in an AVI wrapper. Until that time, Jeff Bellune's workaround is probably as good as it gets.
Not sure why someone thought this scheme was a good idea, but it does seem to be gaining some momentum. I speculate that those camera mfgrs. really do not anticipate their customers would want to edit the footage, and soome probably even include some form of NLE with the cameras.

  • Can not import avi files into pse12 catalog

I am wondering if any one else is having an issue with importing avi (video files from my Nikon D5000) into the PSE 12 catalog.
Running windows 7 SP1 with all updates.
    Camera is a Nikon D5000
    file type is AVI
Every time I go to import an avi file (either from my SD card or from my HDD) organizer comes up with the message that it has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution.
I do not shoot much video so it is not a large concern but it used to work in previous versions of PSE.
Any and all help with this issue is appreciated.

    Ray
In many instances, a utility software will be bundled in with the camera purchase. Installing that utility software might bring along with it codecs that are needed to work with the video on the computer and in the program. If you do not see or have such a utility software, so much for that idea. If you go after this from the MotionJPEG codec angle, the Morgan MotionJPEG codec has been available online as tryout (later purchase).
    http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/morgan/php/products.php?sProductId=5&sProductSub=download s
    See
M-JPEG-2000 Codec v3 (32 bit and 64 bit) and the associated tab for "Download - trial/demo".
    But, could you clarify on
As soon as I move the avi file off of the sd card the import works.
Given you have the .avi file on the SD card, what is the path to the point where the import works?
That is, where are you moving the .avi file to as it leaves the SD card? Surely not to the hard drive since you wrote.
Also if I go to my hard drive where I saved the avi file and try to import it all by itself, it fails.
I wonder if you are saying that you take it through a route which includes the Video Importer.
    Thanks for the follow ups.

  • How can I import .avi file into iTunes?

I have a bunch of videos, that I can not live with out. They are al in .AVI form. How can I get these into iTunes for watching? Do I need to use Quicktime Pro?

You use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to MPEG-4 and import those. This may require Perian or not be possible.

  • Can't import .avi files into Captivate 4

I need some help, I'm getting really frustrated.  My project consists of about 10 short movies (2-3 minutes each) with quiz questions between the movies.  The movies were produced in Adobe Premiere Elements 2 and exported as .avi files.  When I go to import the files, I get this error:  "This AVI file cannot be converted into a Adobe Flash file.  Conversion aborted."
I have tried converting the .avi files into .flv files (using Flash Video Encoder CS3), but that doesn't work for us for two reasons.  Captivate won't display the .flv files while in edit mode; it will only play them after the entire project has been produced.  After the project has been produced, however, the video of the .flv displays, but the audio from ALL of the .flv files in the project plays at the same time, rendering all of the dialogue unintelligible.
I have been trying to solve this problem for a couple of weeks now, but I'm not getting anywhere.  Is there a specific codec I should be trying to use here?  Is there another process I should be using?  Is there a way that I can resolve the .flv issues?

I'm OCD about this sort of stuff, too!
I just insert my .avi files as animations, and that seems to work fine, so I'm no help there.
I don't know enough about codecs to even comment. *sigh*
And, my problem with .flv's has always been the other way around. When I insert an .flv, it always asks for the absolute path (like C:\Videos\VideoName.flv). Then, right before I create the .zip to upload to the LMS, I have to edit the path to VideoName.flv, and then check to make sure the file is on the .zip root, otherwise it won't play on the LMS 'cause it "can't find the file."
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but if you're like me, at least you can get your work done while this eats into your mind and eventually drives you crazy. *grin*

  • Can't import .avi files?

I'm trying to record my screen using a program called Debut by NCH Software, but this program only saves the video as .avi.  Then when I try to import it into Premiere, I get a dialogue box saying "Add media failure" and "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."  This is confusing to me, because .avi is listed as one of the supported video formats.  So what can I do to use this type of file?
Also, I'm a little disappointed in this customer support system... just saying.

    danielw
AVI is just a file extension for a file. It is the format that wraps the video and audio components of the file. And, that file could contain a variety of different
compressions. So, not all AVI are created equal. And, it not uncommon for screen capture programs to offer formats that are not compatible with Premiere Elements.
One example...AVCHD is a supported video compression and AVI is a supported container/wrapper format. But, when the are in the same file, AVCHD.avi is not compatible
    with Premiere Elements.
If the output from your screen capture program is not compatible with Premiere Elements and it is the only output offered then
    a. you use another screen capture program if you want to use Premiere Elements as your video editor of the file
    or
    b. you convert the capture program's output into another format that is compatible with Premiere Elements
    or
    c. you consider a video editor other than Premiere Elements..
I am recalling a prior thread a while back about Debut and its .avi file and Premiere Elements. I will see if I can find it and
see what the outcome of that issue was.
    ATR
Reminder...this is not Adobe, rather use to user. And, I am a user who visits this Adobe Premiere Elements Forum to share Premiere Elements information....no
    affiliation with Adobe.

  • Can I import AVI QuickTime home movies into iTunes

I have some home movies I would like to place into my iTunes. I take the icon of the movie, and I place it over the iTunes and a plus sign appears, however when I release the mouse, the movie does not imports into iTunes.
I have also tried to go to the iTunes menu, choosing file, add to library and choosing the file. But it does not work ether. I still do not see that the video has been imported into my iTunes.
Can any one tell me what am I doing wrong?
I thought it would be easy to import my videos to iTunes.
The music videos I have downloaded from the iTunes store have downloaded well. Are they a different format?
    Hope you can help.

I don't think iTunes will take AVI files directly. You will have to convert it.

  • Can't import .avi files and I have Pro

Ok... I bought Quicktime Pro about 3 years ago and after they updated to the next version, it wouldn't import my FlaskOut.avi from the program FlaskMPEG. It states something like "Quicktime doesn't have the software to view this file. Unfortunatly, it's not on the Quicktime website." I never had a problem with this until I upgraded to the next version. I re-installed the old version and put in the Key but that version doesn't work anymore either. I need to import these to place trailers on my website. Do I need to buy Quicktime Pro again? And if I do will I be able to import these files then? If it won't work, do you know I program I could use? Thanks guys.

    You need to install Perian.

  • Can't Import .avi xvid file with Premiere Elements 11

I just purchased Premiere 11, and it won't import an .avi xvid file. The codec is installed as reported by G-Spot. And the file imports to Win Movie Maker just fine. Any known problems here?
    Thanks

I have used Premiere Elements 11 for a few years and never had any problems with codecs, it ran .avi files fine, but then my hard drive started sending failure eminent warnings so I saved everything I could (for some reason I was never able to save a backup with my old system), I got a new hard drive, loaded a clean new Windows 7 install and built my system from there.
When I got to the Premiere Elements 11 and used it I noticed it came up with the "no codec for .avi" message that I had never seen before and would not play the same .avi movies that I had played with it hundreds of times before.
I was a little baffled so I went back and installed my old Premiere Elements 8 that I used to use and same codec message came up.
I remembered that I had some other video players installed on my old system so I went back and installed the old players one by one.
    1. Cyberlink PowerDVD from the original Dell install didn't fix the codec problem.....
    2. I had the "REAL" player on my old system so I installed it next and it didn't fix the codec problem....(The new "REAL" player live is a little to aggressive for me so I uninstalled it when it didn't fix my problem)
    3. I had Quicktime installed so I installed it again and BINGO, my Premiere Elements 11 now plays .avi files like it used to.
I won't guarantee it will work for everyone but the basic Quicktime player is free so it won't hurt to try it (And it definitely worked for me)

  • Can't Import AVI

Hi, I'm having trouble importing some AVI files. Most AVI files work with FCE, but I found that AVI files exported from Adobe Premier for Windows don't play video in Quicktime and Final Cut Express. The audio is there, but there is no video. Quicktime says I need a new codec, but which one do I need, if that is the problem?

Try converting to Quicktime with this app:

The conversion must match an FCE Easy Setup in all details.
