Can't import DV files or convert them

I am unable to import DV files into FCPX.  I've seen that others have had this problem as well, but this doesn't only happen with .dv.  I have a file that was exported from FCP7 as DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720x480 (640x480).  Audio is Linear PCM, little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz.  Extension is .mov.  FCPX won't import it.  I tried using Compressor to encode it as h.264, but it only gave me audio.  I can open the file just fine in QuickTime X, but when I try to open in QuickTime 7 it searches for a movie file, tells me the sequence can't be found and then gives me this message.  The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -128).  I did a search for that error code, but couldn't find anything.  If I open the file in QuickTime 7 on the computer it was created on, which has OS 10.4.11, it plays just fine.  Is this just because my machine has 10.8.2, and why would that make a difference?  Thank you for any insight.

I don't necessarily need a .dv file.  Just needs to be in the DV format.
The sequence settings are 720x480 NTSC DV 3:2 Lower field 29.97 fps.  QT Video Settings Compressor is set to DV/DVCPRO - NTSC.  This matches all of the clip settings in the project, which were imported as .dv (originally mpeg-2 files converted to dv).  The only file that doesn't match those settings is the graphic which is still 720x480 29.97 lower field first, but the compressor is "animation."
When exporting I'm going to File/Export/QuickTime Movie then using the following.  Setting: Current Settings (which gives me the high quality dv video I'm looking for).  Include: Audio and Video.  Markers: Chapter Markers.  Recompress All frames and Make Movie Self-Contained are unchecked.  Hide extension is checked.  As I just typed that I realized I should probably have Make Movie Self-Contained checked.  Only I thought the whole concept of exporting in the first place as opposed to just saving, is that you were flattening all of your files into one final video - thus making it self-contained.  Am I incorrect on that?

  • SonicStage/Atrac3 files--How do I import these files and convert them??

    This is my problem.
I used to have SonicStage, I no longer do, but I found some of my old CDs that I made using that program, but the atrac3 files(I believe that's what they're called) aren't compatible with Mac, so now what do I do? I've never converted anything in my life, are there any apps I could download that will rip the unreadable files from my old CDs and convert them into usable mp3 (or whatever) files?
This is all very foreign to me and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I get a message saying "Nothing was imported. The files or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the Catalog."

    Hi,
The D7100 is not supported directly by PSE 9 but you could use the free DNG converter to take the NEF files and converts them to DNG files (still raw). The DNG files can be processed by PSE 9.

  • Premiere CS4 I Can't Import .MXF files but Adobe assures me i can?????

Hi I have Adobe Premiere CS4 and I am trying to import some videos to it and they are in .MXF format. Premiere issues me "codec missing or unavailable" and I don't want to download some sort of converter. Isn't Premiere supposed to support .MXF files?????????

Not sure about CS4, I started with CS6. And hope I'm not being preachy here, but an awful lot of troubles over MXF files have the same root problems. Even some very experienced editors have had issues with this. The vast majority of the times this error comes up people have not imported as PrPro needs it ... MXF files are a form of AVCHD ... the camera makes separate (and oft fairly short) sections of video file and matching audio files, stored on the cam in separate folders, with a database to tell any further software use which pieces are part of the same "full-length" clip, and that data is stored in a different folder-tree from the other files. If you don't properly import the whole folder tree, PrPro says ... no go.
So ... when uploading onto the computer, or moving the files around to various drives, you ALWAYS need to take the entire folder-tree from the camera and move it intact. Some other softwares manage to sort out MXF/AVCHD files while the top level folder didn't get copied, PrPro probably will choke. Next, you need to navigate to the files in the Media Browser and then select and "Import" those files, then work them from the Project panel.
Oh ... and often times if these are on external drives, PrPro can be picky about seeing/working with them.

  • Can't Import WMV Files - Header Error?

Hello, talented and attractive Adobe Forum.  Weird problem with Premier Pro CS5 - when I try to import an AVI file I'm getting a message telling me that it can't import the file because of a header error.  Can anyone tell me what that means, exactly?  These AVI files were converted from MTS files using a freeware program, HD Converter, by Coyote.  I've used this app before without a problem and the guy who's using my old software (CS3) is using these files without a problem.  Any reason why CS5 might be having this issue with them?
Any advice or suggestions welcome and appreciated.
    Thanks!

    thanks.
after reading about movie headers, i have come to believe that adobe could support wmv formats. but simply chooses not to do it.
apparently a lot of other software providers have made the same decision.
here is the really funny thing....i tried to make a dvd from the wmv files using microsoft's own dvd maker program
that they ship w windows 7. guess what - that does not work either!!!
apparently no-one, including microsoft, likes the proprietary microsoft format and don't feel like taking the time
to figure it all out. i cannot blame them.
what would be great - if adobe would just let you know that they do not support it, instead of the cryptic error message
about not being able to read the header. but then, adode is like that. they are so obtuse.  they remain commited to
    providing an incoherent user experience.
in the meantime, you just have to convert these formats.
I found a great shareware program called Hamster. It is totally free and has a lot of great reviews. It is easy to use. you
    can get it on cnet.com.
I converted the WMV to AVI, which loaded into Premiere Pro and I was able to finish my video.

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

  • I can not import 60p files from Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro X.

I can not import 60p files from my Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro 10.0.1.  Does Sony offer a plug in?

I shoot fishing footage of big catches.  Slow motion playback appears to me to be much better when shot it 60p even compared to 60i.  It also blows away all of the other formats for a "still" grab.  Thank you for your help as I did a search and downloaded Clip Wrap which converted the files to .mov and they actually do import the full 60 frames.  Thank you again for your reply.

  • How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card to Final cut Pro 5.1.4

How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card (recorded with the Sony HVR Z 7E) to Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 – is this possible at all?
I managed to import the files to Premiere, but it was just a test. I am working at a very huge documentary project with Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 thats why I would prefere not to change the program or the version.
Simply exporting from Premiere back to final cut is also very complicated.
    Thanks for any ideas.

First, copy the card to a hard drive connected to your fcp workstation.  I always back up all card based media at least 2 or three times.  All hard drive will eventually fail.  It's a question of when, not if.
I'm not familiar with this particular camera, but examine the contents of the copied files and see if you can find any .mov files.  You can try importing these directly into fcp.
If you don't, you can try something like clipwrap
    http://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap
    or
    Magic Bullet Grinder
    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/
But, I'd really advise upgrading to at least fcp6 or ideally fcp7 if you can find a copy.  HDV is a problematic format.  Although you can certainly work with it and it's a fcp approved format, converting your media to prores would make your life much easier.

  • Can I import html files into Buzzword?

Can I import html files into Buzzword?

    Thank you for your post.
Buzzword lets you import Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX), plain text (TXT), Rich Text Format (RTF), Word 2003 XML, and Open Document Format (.odt) files. (Font substitution and other formatting changes sometimes occur on import, depending on the content of the document.) You'll need to convert your HTML file to one of the supported file types before importing to Buzzword.

I have been using lightroom 4. I shoot with a nikon d300s. I recently used a nikon D610 and now it says preview not available. It also says the the raw images aren't able to import. So I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 and it still says preview not available. I need some suggestions on how to import them.

I don't use nikon software.  I just use lightroom. I just got lightroom 5. I tried to update to 5.3 but couldn't find the location where to find it.

  • CS3 - can't import jpg - files grayed out - Mac

I'm trying to complete a tutorial in Fireworks CS3 on Mac 10.5.6.
The step I'm stuck on is:
"Select File > Import and browse to the following folder on your hard disk:
    local_sites/cafe_townsend/fireworks_assets/
    Select banner-mockup.jpg and click Open.
An insertion pointer appears indicating where the upper-left corner of the graphic will be positioned."
None of the JPG files are selectable, they're grayed out.
Other files in that folder, TXT and PNGs are selectable.
Other JPGs that are not in the folder indicated are also selectable.
I can drag the file from Finder into the Fireworks document ok.
I've checked the Sharing & Permissions on the files and containing folders and they all have Read & Write.
I copied a JPG that was selectable for import elsewhere into the fireworks_assets folder, and it's still selectable (not grayed out).
The files were copied & pasted in an earlier tutorial step from a different folder (Macromedia Fireworks 8/Tutorial_assets).
Trying to import them from the original location also fails.
So it seems there's something specific to these JPGs causing Fireworks to not want to import them.
    I can't figure out what.
The specific file I can't import is attached.

Not sure why you can't import the file, I'd suspect something is goofed up with the actual JPEG if you can import other JPEGS with no issues. However, if you can drag and drop or  copy and paste the image into your Fireworks document then you're ending up with the same results the tutorial is aiming for anyway.
