Can't import emails

I suspect this problem will have been dealt with before on this forum, but anyway...
I recently lost a lot of emails when I deleted an account.
I have a backup of them in an iomega 60gb hdd.
The file that I backed up was Home> library> mail... I dragged the mail folder to the hdd.
when I try to import them back (mail > file > import mailboxes) I get this message: "No valid mbox files were found"
I have tried with different files but always get the same message.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks
Mark

Thanks Bjorn, the Drafts.mbox folder is just now located in a folder titled: untitled2
So as you suggested I tried to import this untitled2 folder but I still get the same message: "No valid mbox files were found"
V.K. when you say "don't import it as mbox. import it as Mac OS X Mail." do you mean I should change the extension title of the folder to someting like: drafts.MacOSXMail...? didn't quite get what you meant...
No. what I meant is that when you are importing you have several import options. the last one is "mbox files" and the next to the last one is "Mail for mac OS X". that's the one you need to choose. and then choose Drafts.mbox folder to import. this should work (at least it does for me).

  • Can I import email addresses from a contact group into a new email?

Import email addresses?  I'm trying to send an electronic invitation to a group of about 50 people.  I have to enter each of their email addresses, and rather than typing them one by one, I'm wondering if I can import all of their email addresses from a group I created in my Address Book.  I'm sending the invitation through the company's website, nut my email, so the email address does not appear when I start typing their names.  Thanks!

Open a new message and start typing the groups name in the 'To' field works for me. Some e-mail providers have limits on how many addressees can be in one e-mail.

  • Email config - I can't import email accounts

I just bought a Curve 8520 and I can't import my email addresses into it. I do everything right - click on 'add', choose the email provider (gmail in this case), enter address, enter password. Then I submit, only to get a message saying 'address or password invalid. Check your email address and password. If the problem persists, contact gmail.com.' The same thing happens with my Hotmail accounts.
    Thanks for your help.

it is not RBG - it is RGB (Red-Green-Blue)
best to have then send JPEGs - and iPhoto only supports RGB images so be sure that they scan as sRGB - not Adobe RGB or gray scale
RGB specifically sRGB - those are color profiles for photos you tell the scanner which profile to use

  • Can't import emails from outlook express into mail

Just bought a macbook, I'm new into MAC, I'm a MAC ROOKIE. I'm trying to import my email from my microsoft outlook express to my MAC MAIL, I followed the instructions to import from outlook but when I locate the outlook files for my emails (they have extension .dbx but it won't let me select the files. Besides in the outlook folder there are dozens of files (1 per email subfolder). What am I doing wrong that I can't import the emails, nor the address book?
    Thxs!!!

Pay attention to the information Mail displays during the import process. It could be that it wants you to select the folder that contains the files to be imported, rather than the files themselves.
EDITED: Now that I've read your post again, I don't think you're going to be able to do this on your MacBook, as importing from Outlook Express requires that application to be running in the "Classic" environment, which isn't available for Intel-based Macs.
Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about how importing from Outlook Express is supposed to work, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

  • I can only import emails from outlook express to TB for one identity. How do I import emails for my other account identities?

I'm using a portable version of Thunderbird because I want to use TB to collect emails for a few different accounts that I have scattered on different machines.
For example I have [email protected] on machine one and machine two. [email protected] is also on machines one and two.
After setting up accounts one and two in the portable app I can only import the messages for account one. I have tried many times over the last two days. Thunderbird does not want to import the messages for account two.
What do I need to do to import emails for multiple accounts into Thunderbird?

Does [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_from_Outlook_Express#Importing_more_than_one_Outlook_Express_identity this method] for identities apply to your setup?
Keep in mind also that OE messages are eml files that can be dragged directly from Explorer to a TB folder, e.g. one created under Local Folders.

  • Can't import emails from mail

I've given up on Lion and downgraded.  However, I can't seem to import emails back into the SL mail app from the mailboxes created in the ML mail app over the last several months.  Is there some method to do this?  I need several things from previous correspondence.

  • Can not import email addresses

Hello, I have searched and read all I can find on your site. Nothing so far has worked. My desktop has Outlook (new version), it is a Windows 7 pc. I have exported the file in all the formats offered, pst, csv, etc. I copy to flash drive and emailed it to myself. It shows up on my Windows 8.1 laptop and is the same size as the original version. I import into Thunderbird 31.3.0 using import command under Tools. I show it has imported, the file name appears in my address book but no names, address, phone numbers etc What am I doing wrong? Should I install Tbird on desktop import address then export to file, to open on laptop and import into Thunderbird? I can see why there would be a problem with different versions of Windows? Unless to difficult to code for but doesn't seem like it would matter. I could code it for you if that would help? Wouldn't be but a few lines of code, 10/15 at the very most.
    Any ideas? Tim

You have a copy of .csv file on flash drive.
Put this copy of .csv file onto desktop.
    Open using eg: excel
To make life easier, Edit the column headers so they match the ones that Thunderbird uses.
See info on what column headers are used at this link:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_address_list_from_text_file
    In Thunderbird.
    In 'Address Book'
    Tools > Import
select 'Address Book' and click on Next
Select; Text file (LDIF, .tab, .csv, .txt) and click on Next
Locate the .csv file on desktop and click on Open
You may need to map the column headers.

  • Can't import email messages from an archived mailbox

I've got a folder here that I grabbed out of my the "Mailboxes" folder in the "Mail" folder of my Library in order to rescue it while I was doing some reworking of one of my email accounts. Now that I have my email account up and running again, I'm trying to import that folder back into Mail, but when I try to import it I get the following error message:
No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found
What am I doing wrong and how can get these messages imported back into Mail? The folder contains a doc titled "Info.plist" and then a folder titled "Messages" with a ton of files in there ending in .emlx.
Help please! I'd love to retrieve all this mail if I can -- thanks!

I think that's going to work -- thank you!! Looks like I need to just import a certain amount of messages into Mail at a time, though -- I tried to full set (2,700 messages) and Mail crashed. Oops. But it looks like doing them in batches should work.
    Thanks again!!

  • Can't import email or address book from Outlook Express

I mounted a hard drive from my old (DEAD) computer.
I tried to import my email files.
I pointed Thunderbird to the folder containing all of the Outlook Express *.dbx files
It shows no files and imports nothing.
I discovered after an hour that I could drag and drop my Dave.wab address book into the Windows Contacts file, where Win7 extracted the contacts. They could then be imported into Thunderbird.

For importing the dbx files, see this page:

  • Can Thunderbird import emails and folders from AOL??

I still use AOL Desktop 9.6 on windows XP. I would like to use Thunderbird instead but will it import my 'Saved on PC' in several folders, 'Old' and 'Sent emails? I experimented on a Mac with Apple Mail.app and found that it automatically imported all the old and sent emails from a Comcast account that had only ever been used with the webmail. My AOL emails could be imported from my PC or AOL's servers. I would really like to get rid of the AOL desktop software as it often runs several instances of Aolsoftware.exe process and slows down the computer. Thanks.

AOl is an IMAP mail provider, so simply adding your account to Thunderbird will see your mail downloaded from all folders.

    Hi,
I use Soundboard to trigger sound effects at sporting events (I'm allowed to, I work there!) Is there any way of saving audio attachments, such as emailed voice over sponsor messages, directly into iTunes? I am not able to take my desktop pc with me to the ground so can't always sync.

  • How do i import email addresses to an ipad?

can i import email addresses from an online account (surewest) to my ipad?

Fire Fox is a web browser, not an an email provider. If you are using web based email, you have to check on the email providers site and see if there is a way for you to export the contacts to your computer's address book and then you can sync them to the iPad using iTunes.

  • Text file over 200 external email addresses to add to outlook client - Can I import these email addresses to a Group Contact in outlook

Can i import from a text file (text file only has smtp address) over 200 external email addresses to 2010 outlook client - specifically group contact. I did not see an import button on outlook client.  It would be very convenient if users can manipulate
a text file which has all their external email addresses import these addresses to one group contact (mailing list)

    Hello Christopher,
    Please follow :-
    Step 1
Open the text file in a text editor, such as Notepad. Each address should reside on a separate line or be separated by a semicolon. You can include multiple fields, such as names and addresses, by separating the fields by a space or tab.
    Step 2
Press "Ctrl-A" to select all contacts on the list and then "Ctrl-C" to copy them.
    Step 3
Click "New Items" from the main Outlook window, "More Items" and then "Contact Group."
    Step 4
Click "Add Members" and then "From Address Book."
    Step 5
Click the "Members" field, press "Ctrl-V" to paste the list of emails and click "OK."
    Step 6
Click the "Name" field and type a name for the group.
    Step 7
Click "Save & Close" to save your changes.
    Step 8
Click "New Email" and type the name of the group in the "To" field. You can then compose and send email as usual.
