Can't Import Entourage Folders into Mail

I began setting up Mail to see if I like it better than Entourage. I went to import Entourage folders and, when I select Microsoft Entourage and click Continue, I get a warning that says "Error: Unable to locate Microsoft Entourage mailboxes to import."
I don't know where they are, so I doubt if I moved them. And, there is no option to locate them. So, what can I do to import the folders?
Anyone have any ideas?

One thing to make sure when you are importing is that Entourage has to be running when you do the import.

  • Import entourage files into mail

I just upgraded without I guess reading the fine print. I used Entourage for my e-mails and can't open it anymore with OS X Lion. How can I import my thousands of mails and archived stuff into Apple Mail?

I haven't been able to get a 100% successful import from mail.app (2.0) into Entourage 2004 (latest update). For example, if I import a mail 2.0 account with 2000+ messages (sorted in various folders and subfolders) into entourage 2004, random messages aren't imported, missing attachments, etc.
Also, I've never come across anyone saying this CAN work because Entourage 2004 doesn't understand the new .elmx format.
    But, using this tool...
    http://www.cosmicsoft.net/emlxconvert.html
    ...and following these instructions...
    http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/mac911/2005/11/archiveemlx/index.php
...I've been able to successfully import mail 2.0 accounts/message/mailboxes into Entourage 2004 (though, takes a little manual grunt work, but works none the less).

  • How can I import Entourage messages into Mac OS X Mail?

    Hello,
I own Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger and Office 2004 Standard Edition. I have used Entourage for e-mail, since the Mac OS X Mail application in Mac OS X Jaguar and Panther was not effective. However, since I have upgraded to Tiger, I have discovered that the Mac OS X Mail 2 application is a much better program for managing my e-mail.
I have attempted to import my Entourage inbox into Mac OS X Mail, and I am able to see all my imported messages correctly. However, Mail now wants to re-download all messages from the server—even the messages that I have already imported from Entourage. Since I have told Entourage not to delete e-mail messages from my server, I have approximately 127 MB of messages on my mail server that Mail wants to re-download! On a relatively slow wireless connection, this is a problem.
Aside from deleting all messages from my mail server, is there any other way that I can prevent Mail from re-downloading all my e-mail messages?

    Hello KSG2002.
That’s how POP mail works (except in the particular case of Gmail). You would have the same problem if you wanted to use any other mail client.
I have approximately 127 MB of messages on my mail server
Bad idea. That’s not how POP is supposed to work. Leaving your mail on the POP server for some time is fine. Leaving it there indefinitely is calling for trouble.

  • Can't import from Eudora into Mail

I'm trying to import mailboxes from Eudora into Mail. Unfortunately, Mail crashes right in the middle of the process.  Has anyone had this problem?  If it can't be solved, is there a way to do this manually? Finally, if all else fails, what do you consider to be a good email program other than Mail?  I'd like to upgrade to Snow Leopard and

Last I knew, Eudora ran fine under 10.5.8
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Can't import old folders into new iTunes on new computer

    Morning, all -
I got a new computer and restored all my old folders on it, music included.
When I downloaded iTunes again, I was surprised to find that a) it didn't just import my old music files, and b) I'm unable to do so even manually.
I've tried dragging and dropping the music folders - individually and as a group - into the new iTunes folder (iTunes Media now instead of iTunes Music), dragging folders directly into the iTunes window, and importing folders through the menu bar. None of the options work. I don't get an error message, it just sits there and doesn't do anything (which is even worse than getting an error message, which I could at least then track down to resolve).
It's getting frustrating - it's proving to be a lot less user-friendly than it should be, and for what I would think is a relatively common situation.
Any insight on getting this thing going would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks, Chris -
The problem here was that while I'd thought my entire music collection was stored by an online backup service prior to wiping my harddrvie, it turns out that such ISN'T the case. Hence, all the music's gone. So when I did the restore of all the data from the service, then fired up iTunes, while all the music SHOULD'VE been put back in its original filing system (and so, migrated to the new iTunes folders cleanly), that didn't happen. Took me a couple of days of frustration before realizing that while the folder/file structure of all the music was retained, the music itself wasn't. Hence the lack of initial migration, and the reluctance to import any folders manually; the cupboard was bare.
All of this, however, has led to yet another problem. It's related, but a different topic, so I'll start a new thread on it...
    Thanks again.

  • Can't import mbox file into Mail anymore

Hi all, I am getting nowhere with this issue...I have archived my Apple Mail inbox and then turned around and imported it into Apple Mail (so as to have it on the local computer, not the network) many times in the past. It no longer works. I got to File>Import Mailboxes. I get the window "Import data from:" and my choices for file formats are "Apple Mail, Microsoft Entourage, Netscape/Mozilla, Thunderbird, Eudora, Files in mbox format." I first chose "Files in mbox format" as I have in the past. I hit "Continue." I go to the folder where I keep my archived mail. I click the containing file for my most recent export, "Inbox 5.mbox." This opens a new window listing "Items to import" that I may check off. Every item on this list is an old mbox folder. My new export folder doesn't show up. If I go back, open the containing file I mentioned above, "Inbox 5.mbox" and click the actual mbox file, I get the message, "no valid mbox files were found."
I've found other threads referring to this and some say the solution is to pick the "Mail from Mac OSX" data type from the import list, the problem is, this is not an option for me!
If anyone can help I would appreciate it, this is really frustrating...

We have users who have been importing collections of old pine and alpine messages who are having problems since switching to SL.
I discovered that alpine has been saving to MBX format, so users ende dup with collections of mixed mbox and MBX files. The "file" command can tell you which file is which format. There is an old program called "mailutil" that can be used to convert MBX to mbox (available in linux "uw-imap" packages). It is also in MacPorts imap-uw, but the latter is not maintained and appears aimed at older versions of MacOSX. There is also a FileImport plugin for Euroda_OSE that seems to handle more of the .mbox files than Apple Mail does, but still has problems with .mbox files from pine for the period 2002--2005. The file command indicates the problem files have long lines. I tried splitting one of the files
using mh inc, but it had 1000's of messages and a large fraction have the long lines problem.
Can you read the archived messages using "mail -f <filename>"? What does "file" say?

  • Importing Outlook express folders into mail on intel imac ?

I was running outlook express on os 9.1 G3 and need to import the folders into mail on my fab new mac intel...
Any advice/help much appreciated as always
    Many thanks
    Steve

    Steve,
Your OE messages are in a folder called Identities within one called Microsoft User Data. A first step might be to copy the MUD folder or the Identities folder to a disk and transfer it to you new Mac's desktop.
A few years ago, I transferred my mail from OE on a G3 running OS 9 to my flat panel iMac running OS X. At the time I made use of running OE in Classic on my new iMac. Your Intel Mac will not run Classic so the approach will be a little different.
I've read of people being able to import the OE messages into Entourage on their new Mac and then getting them into Apple's Mail. If you have Office for Mac you can try this, or you can try it using the 30 day free trial of Office.
Until you complete the transfer, keep everything intact on your old Mac. Do not delete OE. And whatever you do, do not delete the MUD folder or the Identities folder!
    Post back,
    Steve M.

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • I can't import raw files into lightroom

I have been using lightroom 4. I shoot with a nikon d300s. I recently used a nikon D610 and now it says preview not available. It also says the the raw images aren't able to import. So I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 and it still says preview not available. I need some suggestions on how to import them.

I don't use nikon software.  I just use lightroom. I just got lightroom 5. I tried to update to 5.3 but couldn't find the location where to find it.

  • Import existing folders into iPhoto without copying

It seems like this should be an easy function, but I can not seem to get it to work correctly.
Just got my new Mac today and am still trying to navigate around (too many years of being a Windows user!) and would like to import my photos into iPhoto. I have a TON of pictures already on an external harddrive that are already categorized into descriptive folders. I'd like to import these folders into iPhoto, but want to keep my existing folder locations. Is this possible?
In the Preferences, I turned off the "Copyfiles to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library", but it seems that it is still creating a COPY of the photos in the DATA folder in the iPhoto Library folder. But in the ORIGINALS folder, the shortcut (alias?) is pointing to the original location on my external drive, not inside the Libary folder.
Is this possible? Or do I have to import all my files (essentially creating a duplicate of all files), and then delete the original locations that I have set up?
    Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
ut it seems that it is still creating a COPY of the photos in the DATA folder in the iPhoto Library folder.
These are tiny thumbnails that iPhoto uses for display.
But in the ORIGINALS folder, the shortcut (alias?) is pointing to the original location on my external drive, not inside the Libary folder.
Correct, the alias is exactly what I would expect to find.
Is this possible? Or do I have to import all my files (essentially creating a duplicate of all files), and then delete the original locations that I have set up?
This suggests to me that you've not quite grasped iPhoto, and how it differs from other apps.
It's a photo Organiser, and the idea is simple: do your organisation in the iPhoto Window and let it look after the files. Otherwise, all you need is a file organiser - put files into folders - and an image viewer. The catch with that system is that you need multiple copies if you want a pic in more that one album.
iPhoto works on the basis that where the FILES are is unimportant to you, it's the PICTURES that count. So, it, in the default setting, imports the pics to the iPhoto Library Folder and you can forget about them. Then set up your albums, smart albums etc., in the iPhoto Window. The same pic can be in 5, 50 or 500 albums with no wasted disk space.
You can very quickly recreate the filing structure you have in iPhoto: simply drag the folders of pics to the Source (or left hand) pane and iPhoto will create a new album with the same name as the folder, then create your enclosing folders in iPhoto (File -> New Folder).
Some people resist this because the feel they'll be unable to find their pics should they want them: There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Rolls in the iPhoto Window (View -> Film Rolls) correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.
You can run the iPhoto Library Folder from an external HD with no problems, just copy the iPhoto Library Folder there and then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. Thereafter that will be the default iPhoto Library Folder.
Finally, if you choose to use iPhoto in the non-default setting, then remember iPhoto will not be responsible for the file management, you are. Therefore, you need to put the pics where they're going to live beofre importing, deleting will also be a multi-stage operation, as trashing the file in iPhoto will not remove it from your filing system. Migrating to a new machine can be more tricky as well. Frankly, I've never seen a good reason not to use the default setting, unless you're using two photo organisers.
Hope all this helps, by all means, post back if you need more info.
    Regards

  • Can you import more pictures into a photo book that is already in work?

Can you import more pictures into a photo book that is already in work? I have already spent many hours trying to create a photo album but came across more pictures to choose from. However, I don't know how to get these new pictures into the "list" of potential photos for the book in progress. I can't stand the thought of having to start over by selecting the 2000 photos plus these new ones and starting all over again!?!

I have found more pictures that I want to include. They are, say, in a folder on my desktop. I can't simply pull a picture (or the folder) from the desktop and insert it into the album or the list of potential pictures across the top.
to import into an existing book (which is just a special kind of album) simply drag the photos from their source (the desktop in your example) to the book in the source pane on the left (not to the book in the library window but the book icon in the source pane
Likewise to use photos from your iPhoto library just drag them from the library to the book
I also tried imported the pictures, from the desktop folder, into iphoto, creating new event. I don't think there is a way of accessing that new event from the album in work/progress.
Likewise to use photos from your iPhoto library just drag them from the library to the book in the source pane on the left
I also tried merging the new "event" into an existing event that I had selected for the album. That doesn't work either???
That is correct - there is no connection between the source of the book and the book - the book stands alone and you add direct to it in the source pane exactly as you would add to any other album

  • Can't import any images into lightroom 5

Working away in my studio and suddenly I can't import any images into lightroom 5 (version5.5) for macbook pro os x 10.9.5

    Thank you for your response,
    ...my complete goofiness.
I somehow managed to change my destination folder in Lightroom when importing images and could not copy to the "location" (or as the right panel indicates, the "destination").
So adjusted my destination folder and am back to importing as usual.

  • I can't import any songs into iTunes.

I can't import any songs into iTunes. I can drag and drop but nothing will happen. Songs show up when a search is done but songs cannot be played or located in iTunes. I think this has something to do with the recent update because I have songs imported into iTunes from December.

I found the problem. I have VMware fusion that is hosting Window XP on the iMac. When the fusion is running the CD player is not seen in OS. By quitting Fusion I can now insert a CD and the disk icon appears on the OS screen. Now I can bring up iTunes and import the audio and continue as before. The one exception is I cannot bring in a photo of the album cover as before I have to drag the photo out of iPhoto and onto the desk top. Then I can drag it into the artwork patch in the iTunes/ info window.
