Can't import files to imovie

I am having trouble importing movies into the program. When i click import, movies nothing happens. I have no idea what to do.

Can't import file to imovie

I purchased a video animation and downloaded fil, no problem, I can watch the file just fine in quicktime, (PRO)but when I try to import it into my imovie project it says it can't open the file. My question is the file I downloaded is 3802.MOV, is that the problem? The.MOV instead of .mov? The lady where I purchased the download from told me to save the file as.... 3802.mov and there would not be a problem. Is she correct?

Sounds like either the movie file is corrupt or is some proprietary format that resists export. If this is the only file you have problems exporting then perhaps you need to contact the place you purchased it from for information or to try a new download. If you have problems with other files then you may need to re-install Quicktime.
Just for the sake of curiosity could you open the source file in QT Player and check MovieInfo in the Window menu to see what formats were used to make it. That may give us some clue as to what is going on with the file.

Can´t import files or iMovie projects, and are unable to view on the canvas

I have just gotten the Final Cut Express software, but i have unfortunately run into some problems:
The biggest problem I am having is all my footage no longer works. When I go to import it into FCE, it gives me the error:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
This is also true for my iMovie projects: it gives me an error, and a list of the problems.
I can view the video in the viewer, but when I export it to the timeline and try to view it via the canvas (to see if it matches the music), it says that the video is "unrendered". Is there another video format I should be using that would enable me to view this footage with the imported music in the canvas? Or must I re-render every time I make a change (which I am sure I shouldn't have to!)? I'm very new to FCE so I do not understand it fully.

iTunes will only import music from your phone that was purchased from the iTunes store. To transfer music from other sources you have to use 3rd party software, such as PhoneView.

How can I import files from a windows environment?

I am used to a pc environment. How can I import files ie. PDF, excel, word onto my iPad? I imagine that this is done through ITunes but am unsure how? Are there iPad versions of say Microsoft office that need to be used?

I use Documents to Go, a program that will open all the file types you listed. With its purchase you also get access to a desktop program that allows you to wirelessly sync documents between computers and your device, without going through iTunes.
The other ways to get data onto your device
Mail it to yourself and then save it to (send it to) the app from the e-mail.
Use iTunes to sync the data into the app that will open it.
Use an online service like Dropbox or others. You put the data 'out there' on your PC, then access it on your iPad and save it into the app.
One thing to remember, the iPad is different from Windows and Macs in one fundamental way. There is no 'windows explorer' or 'finder' for the iPad. The operating system doesn't have access to the whole device and everything on it. Instead you have apps that access bits and pieces of the system and have limited ways to share data across apps.
Think of it as World War Two French Resistence.....all these different groups (apps) working on the same device, but most if not all of them have very limited ways to discuss/contact each other. The apps are 'sandboxed' in that they have limited contact with other apps. So the easiest way to deal with various file types is to find the app that handles that kind of file and use that.

The Canon S100 wasn't supported until version 6.6 of camera raw and that isn't supported by pse 8.
You options are to either upgrade to pse version 10 or use the DNG converter

Hello so I was working with AE3 for 2 years and i had no problems with it but.. when i reinstall my windows and install AE3 with same installation file as always i was using.. and I got problem. When i try to import AVI or wmv or other video clips except mov format I getting this error "After Effects error: Can't import file "(FILE TITTLE)" unsupported filetype or extension".. i tried everything: 3 different installs of AE3 but nothing always same.. so decided this is windows problem so I installed new one with SP3 but i got same problem then I tried it on SP2 but still same problem.. So i installed windows7 and my AE3 was working but i didn't liked a windows 7 and i back on xp SP3 and guess what guys? yes! i got same error again on AE3. I don't know guys what to do. Can you help me?

I assume that you mean "After Effects CS3". After Effects 3 came out more than a decade ago.
Do you have QuickTime Player installed? After Effects requires QuickTime to be installed to import some file types.
Could you be explicit about exaclty what files you have tried to import? Even giving file names might help. For example, this error has been seen when the characters used in the file name were non-standard characters (e.g., this thread).
When you re-installed Windows, did you also re-install any codecs that you may have previously had on the system?

I used OS X Mountain Lion and Windows 7. I bought an External Hard Drive Several Years Ago. I can't import files on it, just read it. In Windows i can read and write it. I want to upgrade my OS X Mountain Lion to OS X Mavericks. I am afraid that i will lose all of my files. Please help

That is because the external drive you are using is formatted in the Windows NTFS format, which is fine for Windows.
OS X can READ files from that format but can NOT Write to that format. If you want to use that external drive with both Windows and Mac OS X you will need to reformat it in a format that both Windows and OS X can Read from and Write to.
Those would be FAT32, in OSX it is called MS-DOS (FAT), or exFAT. You do that formatting in either OS X Disk Utility or Windows Disk Management.

I currently am up to about 65,000 images cataloged in LR. I backup on launch several times a week and have used the "relaunch and optimize" function periodically as well. I am a bit reluctant to do anything aggressive as, even though I have encountered this warning 6 or 7 times in the past 4-5 months or so I have never had to shut down. I have emptied the recycle bin (which, as I mentioned, usually has very little in it) and then I continue and notice no impairment of function. So at present it represents more of an annoyance and a bit of a mystery only. Maybe I will just report this to Adobe and sit tight unless someone can see an obvious explanation and correction here.

When I try to import my files from my Canon EOS 550D into AE it gives me this error-essage: "after effects error: can't import file unsupported filetype..." I recently updated my quicktime and stuff, but what should that do? I could import the files before though.

Hi, I recently re-installed 10.3.9 (about 2 days ago).
imovie was working just fine until i opened it this morning only to find I couldn't import anything other than picture files.
I get this message when i try.
"can't open file (insert file name here) skipping it and continuing"
When i re-open imovie i get a message telling me
"there are x amount of files that don't belong in this project would you like to move to trash"
I'm given the option to leave files alone or trash unused files.

When you reinstalled 10.3.9 did you repair permissions before and after, as well as repairing your hard disk with Disk Utility on your Install Disk?
After which I tried doing what was suggested but still have the same problem. I even tried using pacifist.
Is there an newer version of imovie available for download?

Can't import videos into imovie from movie files

I am having difficulty importing .mov files into iMovie. When I go to file>import>videos, I can find my .mov files I want to move to iMovie. It says it is converting. The files show up in my iMovie folders in Finder but no thumbnails are showing up in iMovie. Any suggestions?

The audio codec looks fine. The video codec is h.264 which is usually good for iMovie, but there can be variants that iMovie cannot handle. Another interesting thing about the h.264 is that it is anamorphic, which means it stores as 1440x1080, but simulates 1920x1080 by using rectangular pixels.
If I were trying to make this work, I would try converting it using a free tool called MPEG Streamclip, available here. I use the Beta version. http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your clip into MPEG Streamclip. Then click FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. For Compression, choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Leave the audio codec unchanged.
For Frame size, choose 1920x1080.
Check Interlaced Scaling, and for Field Dominance use Upper Field First, but if it looks bad, you can try checking "Deinterlace Video".
Click Make Movie. Give it a name and store it where you can find it.
Now try importing into iMovie using FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.

Hey that's neat, but I am waiting for Leopord to update my OS, If that is possible. And That mac1080hd requires 10.4. Meanwhile I will have to utilize my wife's Dell notebook (She's in denial). Thank you for your help Karsten Schlüter.

Cannot import file to iMovie: "File not found"

I am trying to build a home movie on my desktop.
I am using iMovie and have clips that are currently downloaded and available to view in Quicktime.
After clicking File>import>movie and selecting my desktop file, an error message pops up (pictured below) saying that I can not import my videos to imovie because "file is not recognized"
I noticed that the clips i am trying to import are in the .mp4 setting but even after changing it to .mov it still did not work
Please Help!!

I'm a bit puzzled why iMovie wants to move the file rather than copy it.
Have you tried dragging and dropping the file with the Finder into an iMovie event?
