Can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6

I can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6.01 HD. Am using Macbook Pro, 2 gig of RAM. This is my first time NOT using tape. I can copy the files off the memory card onto an external drive (to free up the card for pro crew's next day's shoot), but can't import either to FCP. Do I need to convert the files in some way before FCP can read them? Need to fix this problem fast as the crew are off to Nepal for 2 week shoot.

Laura,
First, I'm assuming that you're referring to the XDCAM EX. You'll need to install the FCP 6.0.2 upgrade, which contains the XDCAM EX codecs.
Second, You'll need to install the PDZK-P1 Transfer Application, and use that to import your EX clips into FCP. I just noticed that there is a new version available, 2.5.1 which is labeled specifically for Tiger/Leopard. I haven't tested this version yet, and will report back on any stability issues. We're currently running version 2.1.1, without many issues.

  • I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card.

I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card. The video breaks up and pixelizes when it's directly imported from the memory card. That makes the video useless. Why does this happen? It doesn't do that in any other video editing software. Thanks for the help.

    More info please:
    Type of camera?
Was the card formatted in the camera doing the shooting?
Type of files the camera is set to record?

  • How can I import from Sony Hi-8 digital?

I want to import footage made on a Sony DCR-TRV103, but being as it's a 10+ yr old camcorder, it seems to be out of reach.  Any suggestions appreciated.

I should have clarified my situation: I HAVE one of these cameras.  The "out of reach" part refers to it not being on the list of video tape camcorders that FCP X is compatible with, which appears to be borne out by the app not seeing the FireWire-connected device when I try to import from my tapes.
Maybe there's an issue with the camcorder's FireWire, or another deficiency, I can't tell. But I can try to use an older setup, with FCP 5, which used to work.
Thanks for the thought, at any rate, and for any further ideas.

  • Capturing footage from a camcorder memory card into FCP 7

I teach high school video technology.  We are using FCP 7 and are awaiting the upgrade to 10.
In the past, we connected canon camcorders to the macs using a firewire and utilized the log and capture option under the file menu to put footage from miniDV tapes onto the computer to edit.
We just purchased canon FS400 cameras that use a memory card to store video instead.  We have 18 computers and only ONE allows us to use the log and transfer option under the FCP 7 file menu to import footage from the memory card to the computer so the kids can edit what they shot.  We have connected the camera to the computer using the USB cord that came with the cameras.  However, there's only a message that comes on the camera LCD that says not to disconnect the USB cable or the power source until you safely end the connection from the computer.
When we launch FCP and select the log and transfer option from the file menu, nothing happens.  on the one computer that DOES work, log and transfer allows the footage on the memory card to pop up after a little while and we drag it where we need it to go and it uploads to the computer.
I'm thinking it has to do with the computer settings.  I tried the software updates on one computer and nothing changed.  Still unable to import/capture.  Please help as the district tech support can't get to us anytime soon and my students have planned and shot 2 different productions they can't even edit yet.  I don't want to keep planning and shooting if they can never edit.  Thanks so much for ANY reply.

i'm not sure what you mean when you say "make sure you see the cards mounted on your computer."
You know when you insert a CD or external firewire drive, it appears on the desktop and in the browser windows? That's what should happen with your camera media. You may have to set the camera differently, try a different cable, etc., until you can see the media.
Wait until the computer recognizes the media, then launch Final Cut.

  • Can't import from Sony DCR-SR200 camcorder

Just upgraded to iMovie 08 as I was told my Sony DCR-SR200 was supported at the Apple Store. Also see it listed as a supported camcorder on Apple's support site. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
The HDD of the camera comes up on the desktop as a disk drive but iMovie says a it does not detect a connected camcorder. I can even try to manually import the files and again, iMovie see the HDD as a mounted disk but the MPEG-2 file are grayed out and can't be imported -- even though the dialog box states that it supports MPEG-2 files. I've tried various combinations of when I connect the camera -- before I start iMovie, after, etc but nothing seems to work.
I'm running a dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 with Mac OS 10.4.11. Using USB to connect the camcorder.

Exactly. That's what we had to do before we were promised iMovie '08 would solve the problem! I've seen someone say it works with the dcr-sr300, which is the same camera, only with a bigger harddrive.

A very strange thing just happened. While I was writing the first post, I was downloading and installing mpeg-streamclip, and I let it start to convert my movies. Simultaneously, in the background, iMovie suddenly recognized my camera(?), with all the thumbnails appearing in the lower window. mpeg-streamclip was not even done converting the movies, but in iMovie, it looked as though all the movies were ready to be imported. Also, before mpeg-streamclip started the conversion, it asked for the Quicktime plugin, which I have backed up somewhere, but did not bother to install. I proceeded to convert anyway, although it alerted me that it needed to fix timecode breaks. I guessed it would be fine to say OK to that.
Could it be that I simply did not give iMovie enough TIME to recognize the camera.
Since I don't know what helped, I suggest doing exactly what I did. Try downloading mpeg-streamclip from the squared5 website mentioned above, have iMovie running and click on the first "computer" button on the camera's screen to connect to the computer. I had to wait about 5 minutes. I will try this again.
Well, you seem to need to give a 2004 2.5 GHz G5 about 5 minutes to recognize your camera. Everything comes to him who waits. I'm still not sure whether this happened simply because I had mpeg-streamclip installed, or if I never waited long enough before to let iMovie recognize my camera.
It'd be nice if someone knowledgeable solved the mystery.

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

Hi!, Punwet007: Welcome, to Forum !. If you have, in your device, OS Android 4.4.2 KitKat, you didn't copy, move, write, or, delete data from MicroSD card. My suggestion is ... download and install from Google Play Store the apllication ... File Manager HD and move your data, to Cloud, FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to PC or, LAN.

  • HT3805 Trouble importing into Aperture form Memory Card

Coincidentally or not, after installing Mountain Lion, I am no longer able to import photos into Aperture from a USB connected memory card - the card does not appear in the Import Window any longer - has the method for this process changed or is it a bug?

Do you have Aperture 3.3.2? Are you trying to import raw images?
Does the card appear as external drive in the "Devices" section of the Finder's sidebar? And can you import from the Card in other applications, like Image Capture or iPhoto?

  • Download jpeg photos to iPad from a flash memory card

I exported JPG photos using Iphoto to a usb flash memory card in a DCIM folder. I want a friend to download these photos on his Ipad.
I can use the Finder to display any of these photos from the flash memory card. So they exported right.
But his Ipad 2 with the latest IOS version does not see any photos when the flash memory card is connected to it using the usb connector.
The memory card has been formatted in MS-DOS
When I connect the flah memory card back to my Imac, I see all photo files with the Finder.
Iphoto sees the flash memory card but does not see any photos it exported.
    How can I solve this?

    Thank you for your suggestion.
Sorry, I used the terms usb flash memory card, I should have used USB flash drive in my question.
I tested your suggested solution. I changed the name of the photo to: I45.jpg and the result is the same. I always get the message "NO PHOTO CAN BE IMPORTED".
    Any other suggestion?

  • Can't import from Cannon HV20.

I can't import from my Cannon HV20. The camera does not show up as an external camera. I just get the message "to import video, please connect a camera". I get the same message when connecting to my laptop and I have tried two different firewire cables. I have gone through the settings on the camera and I don't see anything that would prevent it. I have the camera in play mode and powered on. I have successfully imported from this camera many times. This started yesterday when I plugged the camera in while using ichat and ichat crashed. I suspect the firewire connection on the camera is damaged.
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem with a different camera.
I have used my Sony TRV27 Handycam in making movies primarily with iMovie 6.0.3 on my former G5. It did record from the camera to iMovie 7.1.4 on my Intel core 2 but now can't get in to import to either program 6.0.3 or 7.1.4. It will not recognize that the camera is attached or switch the camera icon to camera mode. If it does it only shows Built in iSight or Time Lapses.
I prefer to use the older iMovie camera because of the options and familiarity of it. I do not care for the newer iMovie program format.
I went to the system profiler as suggested and found firewire but have no idea what the Firewire Device Tree looks like nor did I see anything on the right except Firewire Bus speed.
I have been using the cord from Sony in the past to import movies. My computer does not show the camera even though in Finder/Preferences connected services are checked to show up on the desk top.
I phoned Apple Care today and got virtually no help. The gentleman kept saying it was the camera that was at fault. Or it was the ? slot in the computer that wasn't working. They both work. I checked. I see by posts a lot of other camera owners are having similar problems.

  • Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why

Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why?  This happens only on a 5 year old iMac running 10.6.8.  It is a recent developmemt.  All other machines have no problen with the same card.

I click on the send feedback everytime it pops up with the force quit, so they'er getting it.
That sends a crash report. Its doubtful that these are ever seen by a human being, but more likely datamined. Sending feedback reaches an actual person.
My guess from yourdescription is that the portion of the OS (note, OS, not iPhoto) that manages the importing process is what's crashing.

Running LR 5.6 on OSX 10.9.4.  Can't import from Canon 7D. Any ideas?

For future reference, if there is an error message, you should probably quote it in your original message on the subject.
"Could not be read" indicates that you do not have WRITE permission to the destination directory when you try to import, so change your permissions.
"not recognized" might indicate the camera card itself is corrupted or the card reader is failing ... or the problem might go away if you change your permissions.
