Can't import iTunes

I got this shuffle for Christmas. So far have not been able to use it. I have dial-up, so does that mean I cannot import the iTunes program? I have downloaded it twice (3 1/2hrs each!!) and it shows that I have the files but won't let me go further with it.I can go to the iTunes store but not purchase any songs. This is infuriating.
What if I just went down to Starbucks and used their Wi Fi would that be better? Also my computer reognizes my iPod but it says I need "**_iPod software updater_" I cannot locate this anywhere in the downloads. Help. Anyone.

Did you get iTunes fully installed. In other words can you look for songs on your hard drive to the library, etc.?
I believe that the "Ipod software updater" is a feature in iTunes. When you connect your shuffle, it should show up in the iTunes list on the left hand side. If you select it will bring up the setting for the shuffle and an option to check for updates.
It would most likely benefit you to head to a Wi Fi location to get a faster connection for the update.

I figured it out by going into iTunes and clicking on the Library link under File. This bring up a box that allows the music files to be reconnected to the iTunes music folder.
FCP X now sees the music and it can be placed into the project timeline.

(I didn't do a good job of moving over, had to basically download everything back from the cloud). So my music is all there but not my playlists. Can't import iTunes purchased movie into iTunes

Hi everyone,
I downloaded a film (to rent) from the Apple Store, but for some reason, it didn't appear in my iTunes library, but rather in my iTunes media folder. When I try to add it to iTunes, it won't do anything. I want to watch it on my TV via Apple TV, but unless it's in iTunes, I can't. I'm currently using iTunes 11.
Any ideas?

Can't import iTunes Library.xml to rebuild library in iTunes 7.5 - why?

I did an "erase & install" with Leopard because I got kernel panics with 10.4.11, and whenever I try to import my old iTunes Library.xml (which weighs more than 45 Mo) to rebuild my library in iTunes 7.5 as indicated in the kb, I get a new kernel panic before it can complete the process, usually between the 10th and 15th minute. This happens even with extensions removed, and with permissions repaired.
However, I noticed that when I interrupt the process, the partial file I get is functional and I get access to a random portion of my library...
Does anybody have a tip?
My library is really important for me, especially the playlists, which I have saved separately one by one. Does anyone know if they would work if reimported with a library rebuilt from scratch by dragging and dropping my music files in iTunes?

You should be able to create a new Library file by doing the drag and drop of your music files as you describe. I would do them about 50 albums at a time to start with.
You might want to start by quitting iTunes and going to the /Your Home/Music/iTunes Music folder and moving the "iTunes Library" itl and "iTunes Music Library.xml" to your Desktop. Then launch iTunes to create new blank ones. Set your iTunes preferences and so forth before you begin. Do a few and make sure you are getting the results you are expecting. In other words do you want iTunes to move your music files to the default location, etc.
You may need to recreate your playlists when done if you do not have the individual xml files to re-import.

Can't import iTunes backup disc onto 2nd PC - error code (-69)

Hi, I've taken a data file backup CD from iTunes on my desktop and tried to import it into iTunes on my laptop. Have done this successfully before but this time I get "unkown error (-69)" in iTunes on the laptop and the CD won't open in iTunes. Both PCs are running the same version of iTunes (6.0.4.2); I can read the CD in Windows Explorer on the laptop, and the CD opens in iTunes on the desktop wihout any problem.
Any further info required?

I re-burned the backup disk using a brand new CD and iTunes on the laptop has opened it OK.

Can't import itunes songs from imovie

When I try to play a song from my itunes list on imovie it doesn't play. Then if I drag it into the movie I get the following error message:
"The file could not be imported: The file could not be found."
If I open itunes I can drag the same song in and it will work. It's just a hassle to do so. Any help?

Are the songs you cannot import purchased songs from iTunes Music Store? If so, you will need to burn them to a CD and reimport them into iTunes and then they will work.
Or, if you are having problems with only one or two songs, you can use WireTap to record these and then import the resultant AIFC file into iMovie. You can find WireTap here
If you are having problems with all songs regardless of whether they were purchased or imported from your own cds, then the problem is with your iTunes. Try deleting the iTunes plist (Same pathway, just a different com.apple.iTunesplist).
Post back if neither of these helps.

IMovie HD can't import iTunes songs

I recently updated my iTunes to 7.5 and everything seemed to work fine, I've purchased new songs and they all work plus the old ones also work. Now in the middle of making a movie with iMovie HD (5.0.2) I discovered that when I click on audio and try to preview a song from iTunes, iMovie says "This computer is not authorized to play (whatever song)" etc. This Mac is the only computer I've ever had iTunes on, and some of the music that I have I imported from cd's that I bought but it doesn't make a difference to iMovie. I never had a problem with iMovie and iTunes getting along before I updated.
Also I discovered that a "song" I made (a QuickTime sound recording of crickets and frogs) that used to play on the old version of iTunes now isn't recognized on the new iTunes, when I click on it, it does nothing, but when I try it with iMovie it plays. I can't figure that out.
Any advise would be helpful.

Can you import itunes content from one laptop to another?

further to the subject, both laptops are mine & wonder if it's easy to export/import between both laptops. a minor?? difficulty is one laptop is in London & the other in New Zealand. Both Laptops have iTunes set up on them now.

Can't import iTunes digital booklet

I bought an album thru itunes several months ago and it came with a digital booklet. I switched macs and moved my itunes library over. I cant get my digital booklets to show up in itunes anymore. I tried using the "pdf adder" script from doug's applescripts; however, every time I select the file it tells me I must select a "pdf" file. The digital booklet is a .pdf file. Anyone known how to fix this?

Can't import tracks from an older version of iTunes

Since my rMBP has no optical drive I've found a practical use for my old G3 iMac which is for ripping CDs.
The G3 of course is only running iTunes 7.6 (the newest version available for G3 Macs) whereas my MBP is running the latest version.
I've shared the iTunes Library on the G3 and can access it on my MBP, and can even play tracks, but there is no Import button at the bottom of the window so I can't import the ripped tracks into my MBP iTunes. This works fine if I use my wife's MBP (my old one) which is also running the latest version of iTunes.
Have I missed a setting on the G3, or is this a limitation due to the big difference in iTunes versions?
I'm ripping to Apple Lossless if that matters.

MOV is a container format which may contain all kinds of codec, while iTunes only import MOV whose video codec is DV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, or AIC.

Can't Import Songs To iTunes Using Apple Lossless Encoder

I have about 4,000 songs in FLAC format (which is a lossless format) on my external hard drive. I want to import them into iTunes using the Apple Lossless Encoder. I called Apple support and asked them how to do this, and they told me to go under "Preferences" in iTunes and chose to import using Apple Lossless Encoder.
I did this using Preferences>General>Import Settings, and then went to File>Add Folder to Library, however, it still imported my songs as AAC Audio Files. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

iTunes cannot read nor import FLAC files - not without third-party plugins, anyway, and I don't know of any that will allow iTunes to convert a FLAC file to another format - so I'm a bit confused as to the procedure you're following. If all you're doing is using the Add to Library command and choosing the FLAC files, it's quite possible that iTunes is misinterpreting the format and adding what is in reality an invalid link with erroneous format information.
If you have some sort of third-party plugin for FLAC for iTunes, please post that information and perhaps someone here can determine whether iTunes can do a conversion successfully.

From your statements above, it sounds like you never tried to burn a CD for at least the first year that you owned the laptop, as it had a one year warranty on it. While you might have used it frequently to install software, play DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, etc, that's unclear from your statements. Nonetheless, it might just be dirty-dusty. So, before deleting-uninstalling any software, and given they're cheap, try a CD-DVD Cleaner Disk first and see if that resolves your problems.
