Can't import mail from OS9 backup folder

I recently got an Intel Mac Mini and had the Apple Store transfer files from my G3 PB, running OS9.2. My mail from an old version of Mozilla shows up in a DATA BACKUP folder on the mini. For instance there is an "Inbox" which opens with TextEdit. "Inbox.msf" opens in Excel. When I open the OSX Mail application and go to Import Mailboxes I checked Netscape/Mozilla and tried to choose "Inbox" but it is grey and not selectable. Is there a way to do this? Thanks for any help.
Owen

Hello all,
Thank you for your help, but I figured it out on my own.
Here is how I did it.
1. If you are moving "Mailboxes" you've created on a PPC Mac to an Intel Mac
you must have the Same Versions of OS X running on each system.
Please note that this is for people who are just setting up there NEW INTEL MAC and wish to transfer "Mailboxes" from the PPC Mac, and can not get the Migration Assistant to work.
If you've already created New "Mailboxes" on the Intel system they may be overwritten/replaced using this process. Resulting in the loss of any newly created "Mailboxes" on the Intel.
2. Be sure you have Tiger updated to the same versions on both systems.
3. On the PPC Mac, go to your Users/(your user name here)/Library/Mail folder.
4. Locate in the Mail folder a folder named "Mailboxes".
5. Copy the "Mailboxes" folder from the PPC Mac to an external hard drive.
6. Eject the hard drive from the PPC Mac and turn off the hard drive.
7. Connect the external hard drive to the Intel Mac and turn on the hard drive.
8. Wait for the external drive to mount.
9. Be sure that the MAIL application is not running on the Intel Mac, then go to Users/(your user name here)/Librery/Mail.
10. Look inside the Mail Folder. Do you see a folder named "Mailboxes"?
11. If yes, see step 13.
12. If no, see step 14.
13. Stop and I will try to post another solution for tranfering "Mailboxes" into an existing "Mailboxes" folder so you don't overwrite or replace your new "Mailboxes"
14. If you don't see a folder named "Mailboxes" in your Mail folder, do the following.
15. Drag and drop the "Mailboxes" folder you copied onto the external drive, into the "Mail" folder on the Intel Mac.
16. After all of the files have been copied to the Intel Mac, Start the MAIL application.
17. All of the "Mailboxes" you copied over should now appear in the "Mailboxes" list under your mail accounts list.
Hope this helps anybody else who has run into this problem.

  • Can't Import Mail From PPC Mac to INTEL Mac

How does one import the mail folders from a PPC G4 system to a new Intel Core Duo system.
    1. I've copied the mail folder from the G4 to an external Hard Drive.
    2. I then connect the external Hard Drive to the Mac Mini Intel Core Duo.
    3. I open MAIL on the Intel system and tell it to import the mailboxes from the external Hard Drive.
    4. All of the mailboxes import, but contain no mail.
    5. I then quit MAIL and restart it.
    6. My IMPORT folder has disappeared and there are no imported folders, and no mail.
    7. I've done this 6 times all with the same result.
Help Please. Has anyone successfully transfered mailboxes from PPC system to the new Intel system? If so how?

  • How can I import mail from Opera Mail to Thunderbird?

I use Opera Mail as my primary email agent on Windows XP Pro SP3. Soon I will install Windows 7, but first I am trying to set up Thunderbird. (I already use Firefox.) I have >4500 email messages in my Opera Mail store, and I have not been able to figure out how to import them into TB. In Opera Mail, for each mailing list and label (view) I want to import into TB, I first exported each from Opera to a *.mbs file in a single Windows directory. Now I have numerous *.mbs files, one for each mailing list or label. I want to import them into separate TB folders. How can I accomplish this? I have been looking at the Mozilla support pages online and can find nothing. Or am I going about it all wrong? Thank you.

    Hi Pobart,
Try referencing the link below. Hope this helps.

  • How can I move mail from the offline folder inbox to a local folder?

I have an IMAP account and my provider lost all but the last week of my emails. I still have them in the offline folder in Thunderbird so as long as I stay offline I can see the emails but I want to move them to local folders so I can go back online and sync the account without losing them all. How can I do this?

Ah! You are BRILLIANT!! Thank you so very very very much. Your solution worked PERFECTLY! I now have all the messages I had lost aside from the past two months as the only computer I still had the offline messages was two month out of date BUT losing two months is far better than losing 5 years. You are my new personal HERO! Honestly, I can't thank you enough. This was nightmare and you solved it simply, beautifully, and completely.

  • Can not import movies from a file folder into iPhoto 11 on my iMac

I have movies in Iphoto on Macbook but when i try to import the movies into Iphoto 11 on my IMAC i get a message that says format unrecognized.

Download and install QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later on your iMac and see if they will play with that.
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Trfy to Import the folder of videos into that library. Can you?

  • Can't import photos from iPhoto or folder on iMac.

Apple's instructions seem clear, except I don't see an "Apply" button on iTunes after selecting photos to synch. I have an iPad 1, iTune 10, iPhoto 11, and IOS 5. I also tried emailing the jpegs to my iPad but they don't open. I've imported other pics previously without problem.

Export versions to the desktop or create new folders in finder then import into Organizer using:
File >> Get Photos & Videos >> From Files & Folders

  • I can't import mails from Outlook 2003.

Importation (option in the Tools menu) crashes and generates an error notification. I have several folders in the inbox of my Outlook and archived old messages (in different pst files). Could it be the reason for the failure?

    Thank you very much.
I uninstalled Version 31, install version 24 and it works. I could import all the messages (several folders and different pst archives). I could not import email account configuration but it was not a big problem to configure de accounts manually in TB.
After all, I installed again version 31 and now I have all my emails in the last TunderBird version and all the add-ons working fine.
Now I can forget my Outlook 2003.
I am very grateful for the help you have given me.
It would be perfect if I found some way to sincronize my ThunderBird contacts with my contacts in the android smartphone.

  • How can I import mailboxes from Eudora to my new POP Mail account?

    Good afternoon!
I have 10.4.11 on my Mac Mini and want to transfer my mail service from Eudora to Mail. I opened a POP account, but when I tried to import mailboxes from the Eudora Folder stored in Documents I got an Error message: No valid Eudora files were found.
I know the mailbox folder is in the Eudora Folder in Documents, so why can't Mail find it?

I'm not sure if you need Eudora Mailbox Cleaner, but you might take a look at it.

  • HT201250 How can I exclude mail from Time Machine backups?

How can I exclude mail from Time Machine backups?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Mails are stored on ~/Library/Mail, being ~ your user folder. As you are running Snow Leopard, it's easy to exclude your mails from your Time Machine backup.
Open System Preferences > Time Machine > Options, and add ~/Library/Mail to excluded items, so the next backup won't include mails. Note that you have to go to your user folder, in order to access to this directory

  • How can I import pictures from my iphone to PC which I imported to the iphone from another PC? The folder doesn't show on my computer. I see all other pictures I took with the phone but not the imported folder.

How can I import pictures from my iphone to PC which I imported to the iphone from another PC? The folder doesn't show on my computer. I see all other pictures I took with the phone but not the imported folder.

Photos that were synced from a computer won't show for copying to a computer. If you want to copy them back then you will need a third-party app on your phone such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to a device, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer (e.g. their dimensions might be different and their colours may look a bit different).

  • Importing Bookmarks from an HTML Folder

I had to have a new hard drive install. The tech created a file call old back up which have all of my bookmarks in a HTML folder call favorites. Is there any way to import the whole folder into firefox 4.0 I can go in and do them one at a time, but I would rather just do the folder because it is already organize with subfolders.

The file that stores bookmarks may be locked or damaged which is preventing them from being deleted. Try deleting places.sqlite as shown on this site - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
Firefox will try to import bookmarks from a backup when you restart Firefox. If you do not want that to happen, in the profile folder where you found places.sqlite, there will be a folder called bookmarkbackups containing a few files with extension .json, delete all of those files. Also delete or rename bookmarks.html in the profile folder to prevent Firefox trying to import bookmarks from that file.
