Can't import MPEG files

I used to capture video with a camera in .MPG and work it in Premiere Pro, but the computer I was using failed. I just installed Premiere Pro in this new one, but it won't open them, saying that the files are either corrupted or unsupported. I tried them in other softwares with no problem, so it only remains to think that the program doesn't suppoert them anymore, I guess.
What should I do? Do I need to install a codec?

Do you have the full-paid version of PrPro, or the trial?
If you have the full-paid version, have you updated to CS4.2?
If you have the full-paid version, and have upgraded, it is possible that your installation has reverted to the "trial." This has happened to several recently.
You will want to Deactivate your copy of PrPro, if that option is available (not grayed out), then uninstall CS4. Run Adobe Clean Script CS4 several times, rebooting between each run. Then, install CS4, and do all of the updates, before you use the program.
That should get your MPEG back.
Good luck,
Hunt

how can i import mpeg files into iMovie?

    Where are your MPEG stored?
I have hundreds of old MPEGs stored in my nexternal drive, but unfortunatly i was not able import them into iMovie. I did the following trick: I created a new set of a folder and subfolder and called it "Virtual_CAM/DCIM" and saved it on my desktop. Then went to Disk Utilities>File Menue>New>Disk Image from Folder. Then selected the folder on my desktop and clicked enter. I moved the .dmg file to my external (or just keep it on your desktop). I clicked on the .dmg file. It shoud be visible on the Finder. Open your Imovie and import as you do from your camera.

  • I can't import mpeg files into final cut pro10

Hi, I have been given a whole load of old home video footage that I want to import into final cut pro to put into a music video. The files play on quicktime but when I go to import it it won't import.
I've already had this problem with MXF files but these are quicktime so how can I import it. Final Cut Pro 10 seems to not want to import anything that I actually want to use.
Anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks
    Tom

What version of FCP X are you using?
Also: open one of these files in Quicktime Player, press Cmd-I to open the Movie Inspector, and post a screenshot of that.
When you say "it won't import", what exactly does happen? Do these files appear dimmed in the Import Window? Or something else happens?

  • Can't import MPEG-2 files in FCE HD

I can't import MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Express HD. Before I bought the software, I took an MPEG-2 file to the Apple store and they imported it just fine. This is why I decided to buy the software. I know it can work, I just don't know why it won't work on my Mac. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I figured if I talked to myself long enough, I might figure it out. I did. I had to buy the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback component in order to import these files into Final Cut Express HD. I have the video in FCE HD rendering. If there was another way, I'm waiting to hear.

  • IMovie can import MPEG files directly on iMac!

IMovie in my iMac can import mpeg files with no hassles. At the same time iMovie on my Mac book air can not do the same except after conversion to a compatible  format by a third party software ! Any explanation for that ?
MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Yes, iMovie '08 can do this. Make sure you finalize the disk in your camcorder first. And it has to be DVD formatted as a Video disk, not VR. Macs cannot read from VR-formatted disks.
You don't import any files directly from the camcorder. Instead, use "Import from Camera". Actually, with iMovie '08 running, when you connect your camcorder, the camera import window should pop up automatically.

    Luis,
Just to clarify one point…in order for Streamclip to convert the MTS I believe a plug-in like the AVCCAM QuickTime importer from Panasonic needs to be installed. (Credit David McClain over at the FCS boards for that info.)

  • How can I open 'MPEG' file on the Mac?

Hi! I'm a new user of imac. Before now, I used to use PC.
Most of mac tools are strange for me on the Mac. T^T
At this time, when I tried to click 'MPEG' files on the mac, the movie could not be opened.
The window popped up and said,
'The file is not a movie file.'
but, When I opened 'MPEG' files on the PC, there were nothing problem to see.
How can I open and import 'MPEG' files on the Mac? Plz help me

You may need to purchase Apple's MPEG-2 Playback Component (it's included with FCP and DVD-SP). Also try opening the file with VLC Player or MPEG Streamclip.

how can I import vob files into imovie 09? i have some home movies on dvd that i want to edit.

You might want to look at this one too.  Very easy to use and it doesn't require the Apple MPEG-2 playback component.

  • How can I import MP4-files in FCPX?

How can I import MP4-files in FCPX? Should i convert the files? Do you know good (free) software?
    Thanks!

MPEG-4 isn't nearly enough information. There are many other factors that determine whether it will work in FCP. Many MPEG-4 files can be imported and optimized directly into the application.

  • How can i import mpg files in i movie

how can i import mpg files in i movie?

iMovie cannot edit mpg files, unles they come directly from a supported camera.
I would suggest that you use a free third party app to convert it.
Get MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5, which is free.
Drag you mpg clip into MPEG Streamclip.
    Then, FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME
Choose Apple Intermediate Codec, and save it where you can find it. You should be able to import this file into iMovie, using the FILE/IMPORT/MOVIE command.
Note: If your file is an MPEG2 clip, you may need to purchase the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component from Apple. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if you need this. Don't buy it unless you have to. It costs about $20. You just have to install the component. MPEG Streamclip will use it in the background.

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

  • How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

Get a free app called MPEG Streamclip.
    Available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your clip or clips into MPEG Streamclip. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to export the clips in Apple Intermediate Codec.
Sometimes, MPEG2 clips also require that you install the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if you need this. This is available from Apple for $20.

  • I can not import 60p files from Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro X.

I can not import 60p files from my Sony NEX-FS100U to Final Cut Pro 10.0.1.  Does Sony offer a plug in?

I shoot fishing footage of big catches.  Slow motion playback appears to me to be much better when shot it 60p even compared to 60i.  It also blows away all of the other formats for a "still" grab.  Thank you for your help as I did a search and downloaded Clip Wrap which converted the files to .mov and they actually do import the full 60 frames.  Thank you again for your reply.
