Can't import MPEG4 video into iDVD 5

I am trying to create a DVD using MPEG4 video that I downloaded
from iTunes. (I need to create a DVD of the Wonderpets TV show
for my son for Christmas.) iDVD 5 doesn't recognize it, nor does
iMovie HD 5, nor does Toast Titanium. I am assuming that either
there is some copy protection issue, or that I must upgrade iLife 05
to iLife 06. I would gladly upgrade to 06 if I was guaranteed that
it solve this, but there is no such info on the Apple site that offers
06 as a solution. The other problem is that iLife is not available as
a download, and if I need to purchase it I'll have to run out on
Christmas Eve to get it. I can image what fun traffic I'll run into.
Any solid info on this subject would be of greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. Very much appreciated.
I would have preferred a little warning on the site when I purchased the 10 episodes. Now I'll have to go to the Apple Store and buy an Apple Video Adaptor on Christmas Eve to play iTunes on my TV. The Apple Store is conveniently located in the Galleria, the busiest mall around... Happy Holidays

  • Anyone know maximum QT size that can be imported or dropped into iDVD 2.1?

I've got a QT movie of family photos put to music using iMovie 3.03 and exported to Quicktime as full quality DV.
It plays fine before export. It plays fine within QT, but I really want to import it into iDVD and burn it so it can be played on any dvd player (e.g. my parent's 50th this weekend : ). Everytime I try to import or drag and drop the movie into iDVD 2.1, I get nothing.
One thing bothers me: I burned the QT movie to DVD doing a drag and drop/burn. I then tried to drag and drop and import this file into iDVD. Now, my Mac won't eject the dvd because it says it's in use. Does this mean that iDVD IS working on importing my movie even though the cursor is still active and nothing shows up under my file project info?
My QT file is 540 KB. Is this too big? If so, what can I do? If not, what could my problem be?
I've posted a similar question over in iDVD to see if anyone there has any advice.

Try a restart. That usally helps with me. I don't use iDVD, but I have had some issues with Drag and Drops. Some kind of background process won't quit and thinks it's in use.
Before the restart, quit all apps and then try to eject. Maybe that will help. If not, a restart always does the trick.

  • Can't import MPEG4//video blackout in YouTube upload?

    Two issues:
    1) I can't import a QT/MPEG4 .mov file to work on as an event. Ideas? It's 4.3 GB...
    2) Have a 1:30 video finished in iMovie, looks great in preview... but when uploaded to YouTube account, all video is gone; audio is fine, and intro and outro title cards on black are fine. Only the footage in between is a black screen, as the audio plays underneath it. Tried uploading again twice. Am I missing something?
    thanks,
    Larry

    DV is simply "digital video"?
It might be more appropriate to consider it the standard for NTSC/PAL compression/recording for the last decade. Almost every frame level editor will accept and edit it -- including all versions of iMovie, FCE, FCP, and most pro/semi-pro third-party software editors as well. Most DACs (Digital-Analog Converters) for editing convert to DV owing to its universal acceptance.
The Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) is normally used as an intermediate editing compression format for HD content (HDV or AVCHD). I also like to use it for SD content since it is about 22-29% more efficient than DV25 and thus saves a bit of space without much loss in quality.
Can't find anything on your Miglia card (site is currently down for routine maint.) let alone the various compression formats and their stats for capture/storage so I won't try to second guess anything further here. If you don't have QT Pro, would recommend you download MPEG Stremclip (free). Use it to "trim" a snippet from your long "problem" movie, and save it as a separate file. Then try to import the snippet. If it imports then you have a "workaround" and can look into why later. If it doesn't import, try a conversion to any of the acceptable iMovie '08 audio and video compression formats and see if that will import. Once again, you are looking for an immediate "workaround" which will later help identify a specific problem.
Also, while searching, I thought I noted a reference to a "fallback" M-JPEG compression format (again no audio format given). Have you tried it? Also, are you still using Tiger as indicated?
Meanwhile, nothing I check for either Properties in QT (no Pro) or Finder Get Info is just "MPEG-4." If you can explain it on "my" level, is there another layer or corner to look in?
If you don't have QT Pro, you can't access the "Properties" window. You can, however, access the "Inspector" window. What you need to check are the "Format:" entry lines. This should give compression formats for both audio (codec, channels, and sampling rate) and video (codec, encoded dimensions, and color depth). This is where you should start any time a clip does not import correctly.
The Miglia conversion got me a zillion rare & noncommercial & aircheck VHS tapes converted for iDVD burning; seemed like it would continue to be useful as it has.
The unit may still be useful for the purpose of digitizing. The problem here is that the requirements for import have increased one level from merely being "conversion" compatible with iMovie HD to being "edit" compatible for import to iMovie '08. Obviously, any file that plays as is can be re-compressed to to any of the acceptable iMovie '08 compression format. But that means more time lost. In fact, you could always run that long file through MPEG Streamclip to convert it to a DV or Widescreen DV files and it will even properly set the anamorphic flag which iMovie '08 also now requires proper preview during editing and to set the output aspect ratio. (Another change to iMovie.)

  • Can't import IPhoto video into IMovie

I imported a video clip into IPhoto '08 from a Casio camera -- came out in .MOV format. CAN'T import it into IMovie '08 and can't "save-as" into any other format (figuring that might help??). Help?

I exported my lessons video clips as MPEG4, Default Settings and I am able to see the mp4 files in iMovie, even though they look like crap compared to the originals are now 4:3 instead of 16:9.
Then don't use the default settings. Set dimension and frame rate to "current" setting used in original file. Set video data rate to same data rate as original source file. Set audio for 64 Kbps/channel at 44.1 KHz sampling rate or 80 Kbps/channel at 48.0 KHz sampling rate. If you're really having problems, simply export to iPod or TV presets.
Shouldn't DV files work in iMovie? The source files are .mov with DV/DVCPRO - NTSC codec. Isn't that one of iMovie's supported codecs?
As I previously stated, I would normally expect a DV file to be compatible. A DV stream file contains DV video with DV audio and should be iMovie '08 compatible. Since you keep saying the DV (video) is in an MOV file container, I keep telling you that an MOV file container may contain any "valid" audio compression format and not just ones that are iMovie '08 import/edit compatible. So once again, I am reminding you to check your MOV file audio compression format to be sure it is iMovie '08 compatible. If it is, then check to see if it contains an incompatible data track. For instance, iPhoto slideshows are not iMovie '08 import compatible because they contain a "Tween" track. If your "tutorial" files also contain a "Tween" track, they will not import either.
I just tried the Save Movie as Quicktime Movie again. It saved out using H.264, but iMovie won't recognize it.
One more time... H.264 is a video compression format. What audio compression format did you use?
It seems like MP4 is the ONLY codec I can get iMovie to recognize when importing movie files. That can't be right, can it?
It probably isn't. We are rapidly reaching a point where it would be much easier to tell what is going on if you you would simply trim a snippet from one of your problem files and either e-mail it to me or post it to a server for downloading and examination.

  • Can I import wmv files into iDVD?

I have a client who just handed me some windows media files. Can I import those into iDVD without converting them?
    Cheers.
    Tom

    Hi
    It needs to be converted.
    .wmv
iMovie is by concept meant to work with miniDV camcorders . . any other 'imports' need a conversion or are not supported... a quick solution would be purchasing a plug-in from www.flip4mac.com, 49$, which allows the conversion of .wmv (a PC format) into something useful for iM (dv-stream) ...
or, ask the emailer to send it in some other codec .. mpg4 for example .. which will be converted by iM 'out-of-the-box' ...  and, to work with iM, the video should fulfill a few standards .. 720x480 pixel resolution, 30 frames per second ... otherwise, you will experience a dramatic loss of quality ..
    Yours Bengt W

  • Can't import iPhoto videos into iMovie'11

    Hi
I just discovered that i can no longer see any iPhoto videos in iMovie.  I upprgaded to iLife'11 and to Lion. Not sure when the problem occured for the first time, i.e. at what upgrade.
iMovie does ask if i want to import iPhoto thumbnails, i select NOW but then when i got ot the event folder and select iPhoto Videos iMovie locks up with the beacjh ball, i go to Force Quit and it tells me iMovie not responding so I have to force quit. All highly annoying as I have video in iPhoto i want to edit and put together etc.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Alright, sounds like a re-install of iMovie is in order, try ths:
Go to Mac HD > Library > Receipts > (look for iMovie.pkg) and move that to the desktop.
Got to Mac HD > Applications > iMovie.app (move that also to the Desktop
We're going to trick the Mac into thinking you haven't installed iMovie yet.
    Reboot the Mac.
Now go to the AppStore icon and launch that while holding down the Option key, when it comes up go to Purchases. With any luck it will let you re-download the iMovie installer and run the installer one more time.
After you run the install, reboot the Mac and hold down the Option key again. Choose the Recovery drive. And run disk utility>Repair Disk Permissions from within the Recover drive (instead of running it from the Utilities folder). When it finishes Repairing Permissions, reboot one more time.
Try launching iMovie and see if it can find the iPhoto Videos.
Plists are where all the preferences get written so for iMovie to locate where iPhoto Library is kept it needs to read that from somewheres. Therefore it gets written in the preferences, along with the locations of the videos inside iPhoto, the names of those videos, etc. That way iMovie can just look it up without you having to launch iPhoto to find the videos.

  • Can't Import PlayClaw5 videos into CS5.5 on Mac

Hello everyone. My friend and I have begun using Premiere Pro: He is using CC, and I'm using CS5.5. He uses PlayClaw5 to record his videos, which records in an .AVI format. HE can open in in his Premiere Pro, but when I do it for me, it says that the File format ISN'T supported. Not "There are codecs missing" or "This is the wrong type of AVI file", just Not supported. I've read all over the internet, installing codec left and right, trying to get it to work. I'm running Mac by the way, so maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, I thought about re-encoding the videos into mp4 through the Media Encoder, but that doesn't support it either. I've tried NUMEROUS video converters, but it makes the resolution all wonky. (It's pretty wonky to begin with at 1920x1018 with a 1.886 pixel aspect ratio). So, I'm hoping someone has an answer here. Help?

Exactly what is inside the video?
Codec & Format information, with 2 links inside to read -read both links in reply #1 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1270588
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

  • Can't import Nikon video into Lightroom 5

I just noticed that I can no longer import .MOV files from my Nikon D800 into Lightroom 5. I am running on Mac OS X 10.8.4 on a Macbook Pro, LIghtroom 5.0, Camera Raw 8.1. I plug the camera into the USB port of my macbook pro (don't have a SD slot on my macbook pro)
When I click import in Lightroom the .MOV files don't even show up at all in the import dialog.
When I tried to import video from my iPhone 5, they showed up on the import screen and I was able to succesfully import them.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

The camera does show up on the import dialog box when the camera is connected.
Photographs taken just before and after the video show up in the import window, just not the videos.
The camera has both an SD card and a compact flash card. The images and video were saved to the compact flash card. To be safe I took the SD card out of the camera, the camera LCD display can still show the  images and video on the camera display, but in lightroom 5 I only see the still images not the video in the import window.
Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

  • Need help: Can't import old video into Final Cut Pro X or iMovie

I am trying to import some footage from my old camcorder into my iMac.
I have a Sony DVMC-DA1 connected via firewire. The setup works great in iChat. We were able to video chat to my wife's computer and she could see and hear the camcorder footage. iMovie does not recognize the device at all. Final Cut Pro recognizes it. It appears in the Camera Import window, but when I try to import some footage, nothing gets recorded. Oddly, there are two time counters in the import window. The one on the left increments as the footage 'imports' but the one on the right stays at zero.
My iMac is the newest 2011 model and I am using the latest versions of iMovie and FCPX.
How do I get either iMovie or FCPX to import my footage from the DVMC-DA1?

This guy did a tutorial for 2 free ways of importing video over FW:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVqkSlaTr-k
They both should accept any video over FW. The link for Vidi is old, here's where to find it: http://www.mitzpettel.com/

  • Help! can't import any video into Imovie 08!

I hope some nice Mac user will help me, please. I am trying to import anything into IMovie and no version is working. I started with vob files-- (precious home movies that were put on DVD), converted them to .mov and then even bought a Mac converter for $40 and now have avi and Mp4 versions. When I try to import, IMovie sees the files, but they are gray and can't be clicked on! Its so frustrating, I have been trying many different things on two different Mac's for three days now! I may have to, in desperation, do this project on a PC at work after hours. hope its something simple, thanks nice Mac users (I am a newbie)

  • Can I import a video from Final Cut Pro

I'm doing a :45 sec. video clip in Final Cut and Kinemac for a local church. They want pre-recorded backround music that fades out at the end. Can I import this video into GB for the music..
    Thanks.
    NN

What do you mean by "this video"? The FCP file? No, but any rendered version: Show the video track in GB and pull the video over.
The question is: Why would you want to do this? If it's just about fading out the music, as you write, FCP will happily do that for you.
