Can't import mxf-files (Canon XF100) into FCP 10.0.8 after Mavericks

Hello
It's not possible for me, to import mxf-files into FCP.
I haven't yoused FCP for a couple of days, but today I could not import files from my Canon XF100, so i think the problems came with Mavericks??
Does any of you have same problems?
What to do?
Kind regards
Thomas (Denmark)

Hi Russ -
I downloaded the utility and driver from here:
http://www.learn.usa.canon.com/resources/blogs/2012/20120223_xf_utilities_and_pl ugin_updates.shtml
But after looking around realized it isn't updated for Mavericks yet. I was only given two files and both weren't in any sort of directory structure- here is a screenshot.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Russ and Luis,
I did uninstall and re-install Canon XF Utility and the Canon FCPX plug in.   Still no luck.  I checked the CanonXF64.RADPlug folder is on my computer in the Rad Plugins folder in application support  This is where it is supposed to be as far as I can figure out.
Another piece of the puzzle is that  footage shot on a Canon C300 in 2013 and  I reimported today and it DOES import into FCP10.1.3.   Footage shot on a different Canon C300 filmed this summer will NOT import into FCPX.  The latter will import into Premiere. But I am trying to work in FCPX, but maybe I shouldn’t be??
    Any ideas?  (screen shots below)
    Thanks.
    Peace, Huey
FYI Here is what Canon says
"There is another trick that works sometimes though.  Try uninstalling the plugin and XF Utility.  Then, install the latest XF Utility, followed by the plugin, in that order."
I did do this but no results.  Otherwise they say I need to wait for a new plugin.
Here's 2014 Canon C300 files does NOT import to FCPX
Here's 2013 Canon C300 files does import into FCPX.  I thought it was Contents folder but another set of footage shot on C300 does import and there is no contents folder for that.

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?

  • Can't import AVCHD from Canon F10 into FinalCutPro 6.0.4 via USB

Can't import AVCHD from Canon F10 into FinalCutPro 6.0.4 via USB. When opening Log&Transfer in FCP, no files show up (the Log&Transfer window do not seem to recognize the files on the camera). The camera shows up in Finder, though. - Do I need a driver?

sorry, of course USB is available for L&T, I use it every Friday so I should know better, I got two replies mixed up completly so thanks for correcting my mistake.
what I meant to suggest was if the camera does not show in finder or in L&T check the camea menu setting is set to connect to the hard drive and not from the camera or memory card.

  • I can't import any files or folders into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 projects

I can't import any files or folders into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 projects. When I select import and then either files or folders, I am able to navigate to the drive where the media is being stored, but then when I scroll to locate the files or folders the drive disappears. This problem began as an intermittent problem, but now I cannot import any files or folders. This problem started when I upgraded my operating system to Yosemite version 10.10.2 on my mid-2010 Mac Pro running with 16 GB of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. Can anyone help me figure out and solve this serious problem? Thanks!

Then just drag the files/folders from your hard drive into FCP.  Don't use the IMPORT option...just drag and drop.
The problem started when you installed an OS that doesn't support FCP 7.  So if you want things to work smoothly, it's best to go back to an OS that did support FCP 7. Yosemite was written without taking FCP 7 functionality in mind, so it isn't fully functional. It might not do one thing for someone...but works for you in that respect. But then you can't do something else. The ways it doesn't work is always random.  Or it might work great for some people, because they don't use functions that might no longer work....so they don't notice it.

  • Can not import MXF files into Final Cut Pro

I am full of anger and frustration!!! I purchased final cut pro only to find out that it WILL NOT import MXF files. How insane is that? ADOBE - NO PROBLEM. Then I had to go back to YOUR STORE and buy two different file converter applications before I found one that worked. Now FINAL CUT PRO will only import the audio segment of converted files after converting to PRORES in PAVTUBE. Are you BUCKING kidding me? This work flow BLOWS. Why the FELL does this have to be sooooo hard!  I am gone to creative cow and other forums to try to find out why I am sooo stupid that I can't get this simple process sorted out. YOU BUCKING MONEY MACHINE! How many more aps will I have to buy before I can edit CANON XF100 files in Final Cut Pro. BUCK politics! You should make your software with plugins that would allow you to edit without this kind of added step. JUST LIKE ADOBE. I want refunds for my final cut pro purchase. This is BUCKING rediculous. What a waste of time!

Good thing I still have an iMac on Snow Leopard with FCP7 where I can import these files.  I was hoping to upgrade that system next month when the new iMac comes out
There is definite upside to dragging one's feet on upgrades until necessary and this is a prime example. On a desktop running 10.6, and the XF Utility, FCP 7 L&T works reliably. And like you, that's my workflow for FCPX projects. Running 10,7 on a laptop, the EOS plug-in works well for FCPX imports – no workarounds needed. When I finally get around to updating, I will partition the HD, with one SL partition and the other partition with a later OS. Of course this strategy will work only as long as my hardware holds up.

  • Issue with importing MXF files - Canon

The issue is, when importing MXF files from a Canon camera, we experience "spanned" files. This has been occuring now for sometime. Why has Adobe not fixed this. Surely there is a large community using Canon MXF files? Can someone from Adobe or Canon reply to this message. If anyone else has a fix or a workaround other than mannually addressing this, please advise.

    I'm afraid I don't understand the question.
7.2 now correctly parses the Canon XF .CIF sidecar files to determine whether the media is supposed to be spanned or not.  This has been a feature request that has been finally addressed to work correctly.
(It also was there in 7.1 & previous, but had limitations:  the performance wasn't as good, there had been issues in the past with audio pops at cut points, and it required that the Canon XF folder structure remain intact, ie if you copied the media to a flattened folder structure, it would fail to do the spanning correctly.)
If you are looking for a means to disable the automatic spanning, simply removing the .CIF files will achieve that.  Although i'm not sure I understand why you're looking to do that.  Most people *want* spanning to happen automatically, otherwise you're forced to manually sync spanned media segments by hand.

  • Can't importe MXF-File from Canon XF300, 4.2.2 codec

premiere pro 4.2.1 say the video is too big; doesn't CS4 support this codec???

sounds suspiciously like the prores 4.2.2. from panivision genesis..maybe close to hdcam hd...
some info on that stuff that might help determine custom settings, maybe conversion first without loss...etc..
    hdcam hd
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/resources/white_papers/Sony_XDCAMHD_whitepaper.pdf
    Ingest
Once all footage has been shot, it must be transferred to a computer hard disk for
editing and converted into a format editable by Final Cut Pro. Although the XDCAM
HD camera records directly to digital files on the Professional Disc, the files are stored
in a special file type called MXF (Material Exchange Format).
In order to edit the files in Final Cut Pro, the data within the MXF files must be transferred
to QuickTime files. This translation does not damage or cause quality loss to the
video files. The MPEG HD data is simply unwrapped from the MXF file and rewrapped
    in a QuickTime file.
One additional benefit of the XDCAM HD format is that low-resolution proxies of every
clip are automatically created and stored on the Professional Disc media. These proxies
allow you to quickly view the clips before importing the full-resolution data and
choose which clips to ingest and which to leave on the Professional Disc media. You
can even log different sections of the proxy clips (using In and Out points) to avoid
importing unwanted parts of the full-resolution HD files you may not need for editing.

ps...I imagine the camera manufacturer would have info available for editing this material , maybe free software for "capturing", conversions, etc

  • Can't import .MXF files into FCP7

I have several .MXF files (Sony XDCAM) I'm trying to import into FCP7.
I downloaded the plug-in from Sony's website, and installed it -- but Log & Transfer does not allow me to import the .MXF files.
    What should I do?
(I've also tried ClipWrap -- did not work for this.)

First off...please tell me you have the FULL card structure, and not just the MXF files.
Second, you need to use the Sony XDCAM TRANSFER UTILITY for this. Log and Transfer doesn't work.  If you install the utility, it should show up in FCP as an option, or you can convert outside of FCP, and then import the converted QT files.
Clipwrap is only for AVCHD files.

MOV is a container format which may contain all kinds of codec, while iTunes only import MOV whose video codec is DV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, or AIC.
Even if the MOV meet the above requirement and supported and playable in iTunes, it will still fail to sync to iPod/iPad/iPhone/Apple TV if the MOV video does not fit the specification like resolution, bit rate, aspect ratio, size, and audio codec of the iPod/iPad/iPhone/Apple TV.
In order to successfully import MOV to iTunes as well as sync MOV to Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad, we have better convert the MOV video to a more compatible video format.

  • Can I import MXF Files directly into CC Premiere Pro

I'm currently running CS5 and I have to use a 3rd party converter to edit MFX files. I shot on a sony f5 and I would like to use the original files as i'm losing quality via these converters. I need to upgrade to the CC but would love to know if these files can be imported directly.

CS6 and later all support MXF files. Your dilemma is whether to upgrade to CS6 perpetual or start renting forever with no way back.

  • Premiere CS4 I Can't Import .MXF files but Adobe assures me i can?????

Hi I have Adobe Premiere CS4 and I am trying to import some videos to it and they are in .MXF format. Premiere issues me "codec missing or unavailable" and I don't want to download some sort of converter. Isn't Premiere supposed to support .MXF files?????????

Not sure about CS4, I started with CS6. And hope I'm not being preachy here, but an awful lot of troubles over MXF files have the same root problems. Even some very experienced editors have had issues with this. The vast majority of the times this error comes up people have not imported as PrPro needs it ... MXF files are a form of AVCHD ... the camera makes separate (and oft fairly short) sections of video file and matching audio files, stored on the cam in separate folders, with a database to tell any further software use which pieces are part of the same "full-length" clip, and that data is stored in a different folder-tree from the other files. If you don't properly import the whole folder tree, PrPro says ... no go.
So ... when uploading onto the computer, or moving the files around to various drives, you ALWAYS need to take the entire folder-tree from the camera and move it intact. Some other softwares manage to sort out MXF/AVCHD files while the top level folder didn't get copied, PrPro probably will choke. Next, you need to navigate to the files in the Media Browser and then select and "Import" those files, then work them from the Project panel.
Oh ... and often times if these are on external drives, PrPro can be picky about seeing/working with them.

  • Can't transfer/import XDCAM files from harddrive into FCP

hi, i filmed all of my footage using an XDCAM and had to return the cams immediately. so i copied all the clips from the capture media to an external hard drive (everything within the BPAV folder) one to one. i also downloaded and installed the XDCAM EX Clip Browser on my MacBook Pro and can view the clips.
the problem i have is that i can't import the clips into FCP. the "Import> SONY XDCAM..." feature in FCP won't allow me to access these files. the BPAV folder remains greyed out.
what do i need to do to get the clips into FCP? is there a different plugin i need? the clip browser won't let me export the clips to any other format. i'm stumped. i run FCP computer on my G5 PPC Quad core. the file browser only runs on Intel macs. so i use my MBP to view the clips but that's all i can do.
can someone please help me out ?
    many thx!
    fj

in the spirit of armano'os last post and FYI: i picked up the cams on short notice, never used them before and there were no instructions. the ppl just told me to copy the files over to my HD, since i had to return the cams immediately and had no time to hook up the cams to FCP.
the 'mistake' i seem to have made was that i looked at the data structure and saw that the clips always ended up in the CLPR folder within each BPAV folder - each in its own folder in that fiolder and with XML and data files - so i copied directly to that one BPAV folder i copied from the first capture media i moved to my hard drive instead of copying the entire BPAV folder from each capture media. however i tested the import immediately to see if it actually played back the files in the XDCAM clip browser and they did.
i assumed all was fine with this method and it would save me a lot of duplicate BPAV folders... hopefully though this isn't the end.

  • Problem importing footage from Canon XF305 into fcp

I have footage from a card having recorded on a Canon XF305. I literally dragged and dropped card onto my desktop making sure not to change any file names. I am now trying to import this footage from my desktop into fcp. I have downloaded the canon fcp plugin but everytime I try to import the footage using the canon plugin preferences I get an error message which reads... "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media. Can anyone help me??

    Hi there,
I've had no joy with this. Have tried everything. Just can't get footage into fcp any way I try. I have downloaded the plugin but I still get the same error message. "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
My work flow is as follows.
Open final cut pro. Go to log and transfer. Go to preferences within the log and transfer window and click on Canon XF plugin. Then go to import. Click on file on my desktop which is labeled as CLIPS001. Then error message comes up.
Memory card was dropped directly onto my laptop and onto a back up drive without changing any file names. Was thinking this would be straight forward.
Any help will be hugely appreciated. Am I missing something simple?
