Can't import my video from DVD

I have a homemade video (no copyright issues) that was made into a DVD, and I want to import it into iMovie, but I can't manage to do so. Any tips? FileVault is not turned on.

You need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need Streamclip:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, as well as the the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
which is a mere $20.

  • Can you import movie videos from SD camera card

Can you import movie videos (MP4) into an Ipad from an SD camera card on a Lightning cable ... or can you only do this from a laptop via Itunes? In other words, is Itunes the only way to get non-Itune videos to the Ipad? Hope I havent made this sound confusing.

To import the videos must follow a very strict naming convention.
All file names must have 8 characters for a name and be located in a folder named DCIM
    for example
    DCIM
    MOV_5789.mp4
You can't watch the videos off the cart, they must be imported into the iPad. They'll go into the camera roll, when you tap on them it'll open the video app and you can watch from there.

  • Can't import live video from Sony PD 170.

Just got Final Cut Pro X. In a New Event I am able to import live video from the new MacBook Pro computer's built-in camera and pre-recorded video from my Sony PD-170 camera. However, when trying to import live video from the PD-170, the program only APPEARS to do so--the clips never show up once I close the import window. Any suggestions?

I think iMovie is corrupted. I would like to try to uninstall iLife 11 but when I put in the disc there is no uninstall option. I tried trashing iMovie from applications and reinstalled all of iLife (I believe wasted space on my HD) but the issue remains. • Can I import a video from Final Cut Pro

I'm doing a :45 sec. video clip in Final Cut and Kinemac for a local church. They want pre-recorded backround music that fades out at the end. Can I import this video into GB for the music..
    Thanks.
    NN

What do you mean by "this video"? The FCP file? No, but any rendered version: Show the video track in GB and pull the video over.
The question is: Why would you want to do this? If it's just about fading out the music, as you write, FCP will happily do that for you.

  • Can you import the video from an AVCHD Disc into FCP7  for editing?

Can the video from an AVCHD Disc be imported into FCP 7 for re-editing if you have a normal Superdrive burner?
The reason I ask is because last night our film-making club gave a show of short videos to some guests.
At the end it was decided to put them all on one DVD to send to the visitors as a memento.
However, some of the films were on AVCHD discs and I queried whether they could be copied, even in standard definition.
The "copier" said it was no problem as he had a PC and had done it before . . . . . cheeky devil!
    So can it be done . . . . . on a PC or a Mac . . . . with a standard burner?
I have just tried but nothing in the BDMV folder can be imported.

    GOT IT!
Copy the BDMV folder from the AVCHD disc to the desktop.
Use HandBrake to convert the .m2ts files to H.264
Then convert the H.264 files to an editable format.
Rather convoluted process but it works.
    Anyone know a better method?

  • How to import audio/video from DVD into FCP

Hi, I need to import/capture into FCP from a dvd. When dvd files are open on my Mac it show VOB fotmat for video. I imported those files but they don't have audio, also the total time is 20 minutes but when imported into FCP it shows only bout 25 seconds. can someone help on this matter?
    Thanks in advance

Cinematize works great. You can select portions or the entire DVD. It will not read encrypted DVD's so assuming you are using media that you have rights to it will do fine.
You can import in several compressions. If you like you can import only the audio, only the video, etc. It will give you a QT file at the end.

  • How can I import the photos from dvd or hard disk?

    Hi!
How can I import/export my photos from dvd or hard disk??!

To what?    Are you having trouble with a DVD made by a particular device, or a hard disk that was on a particular computer, or is still in that computer, and communicating to your computer?  We don't have enough details to answer the question.    Are you trying to get photos into an iPhoto certain version, Photoshop certain version, just the Finder of a  certain version, or specific operating system on your Mac?    We need more details.  Is the DVD a standard DVD, such as is indicated on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2446 or something non-standard?

Could it be the case that you have "proxy media" selected in the preferences (under Final Cut Pro -> Preferences, click on "Playback" and see which is selected, proxy or optimized), BUT you are not creating proxy media when importing?
If that is the case, either
      - switch to "original/optimized media",
    or
      - create the proxy media (control-click the clip(s) in the event browser, choose "Transcode media" e check the box for "create proxy media").

  • IMovie can't import any video (from Sony cam or iPhone or iSight)

iMovie worked yesterday with my camera (Sony HDR-XR200) just fine. Today imovie will see the camera and pull up the clip selection menu but no clips ever load. I tried to connect my iphone as well to see if it was the camera or the software and imovie also can not recognize my iphone (for importing video) or isight. Any ideas?
    I have tried
    -different cables
-complete shut down on macbook and battery pull from camera, reconnect everything, same problem.
    -software update, restart.
-deleting the preference file (something recommended in this forum)
If I try to import video from isight, imovie stops responding and I have to force quit.
Thanks for any help, I'm stuck.

  • Can not import large videos from iphone to MAC or PC.

When I try to import photos from my iPhone 4s to my MAC (with iPhoto) or PC(with explorer) I got no problem at all but with videos larger than 2-3 gb, I receive the message:iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image. Anyone has an idea how to overcome this?

Use Image Capture to upload the video files to a folder on the Desktop and import into iPhoto from there.

  • How can I import a video from a website

I'm trying to create a slideshow with pictures and music but I would also like to show a video from this website www.212movie.com I want to show this video at the beginning of my slideshow. Any help would be appreciated.

what you call a video, is a .swf 'animation', shockwave flash. downloading that .swf creates only the 'loader' of the following 'video'.-
I guess, the owner of that website has good reasons to probit any downloads ...
for sure, using any screengrabber tools as Screenflow, Jing, SnapZ or QuicktimeX-built-in screenrecording feature etc. would 'allow' it.. but those captures usually are way-off any standard, a video should have, esp. resolution (=quality drops)
ahh, and Welcome, melindanoland, to the  iMovie boards ..

  • Can't import home movie from DVD to iMovie HD

I have recently had over an hour of old home movies without sound (Super 8mm, not video tape) professionally transferred to a DVD. The DVD was delivered in both VIDEO_TS (VOB) and in MPEG 2 formats.
I am unable to import either of these formats into either iMovie HD or Final Cut Express. Each attempt results in an Error Message that file type is not supported or that QuickTime cannot parse it, Error -2048.
I have also tried DVDxDV which generates a .mov file, but get the same error message.
How can I get these analog-to-digital converted DVD files to import into iMovie/Final Cut Express so that I can edit and rearrange clip sequence?
The video transfer firm has no answer to this problem either. (It works fine on their iMac G5 equipment running Final Cut Pro).

I have also tried DVDxDV which generates a .mov file, but get the same error message.
I'm surprised at that. Did you check out the DVDxDVD FAQ at http://www.dvdxdv.com/DVDxDV.faq.htm
You might want to also look at ffmpegX at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
The ffmpegX installation and operating instructions could be a little clearer, but it works.
BTW, when having film transfers made like that, find a place that will transfer to a miniDV tape. You will get maximum quality this way as DV compression is much lower than the MPG-2 compression on the DVDs you were given making DV a much better starting point.
The video transfer firm has no answer to this problem either.
It doesn't sound like a very "professional" place. A professional service would have suggested output to miniDV tape so you could easily edit the clips.

  • Can i import the video from a camrecorder with only a USB connection?

Hi, I am very new and may i ask some silly questions? I was using an very old DV camcorder with a firewire connection and it worked fine with my Mac, but now I want to buy a new camcorder and i found that the models I like do not have the firewire links, only they have the USB, the models with the firewire links are very old styles.... can anyone tell me what to do with only the USB link? thanks!

    Panasonic HD camcorder, HDC-SD1
Advanced High Definition (AVCHD) isn't supported by Apple you will encounter editing limitations wait for the apple software to catch up with this format.
    Panasonic SDR-H250
    Panasonic's hard disk model, 3CCD, MPEG2
the only thing this cam has going for it is the 3CCD, converting the already compressed mpeg2 video to the DV format for iMovie will result in an additional lost in quality an will be time comsuming (not to mention the extra app(s) neede for the conversion.
    ) you'll need for the conversion .
Here's what I'd do. I'd purchase a solid mini DV cam with all the bells and whistles and wait for the dusk to clear on the all new/problematic formats. In the process saving $400 - $500.
Don't become all hyped up with the marketing crap for these new cams. Sony Vegas 7 is the only app I know of that just recently updated to handle the AVCHD format. And until comsumers start burning HD DVDs whats the point. A good mini DV cam will still be viable a couple of years down the road and todays new cams will be cheaper and better.
Here's a sweet cam that will allow you to take videos and edit them in no time.
    Sony DCR-HC96,
    Analog-to-Digital Converter, external Microphone Input
Analog Audio/Video Input(s) just to mention a few of the most sought after features.
You can find this cam on the web (eg. amazon.com) for about $500.
Then again that's just what I'd do, other my have different advice/suggestions.
Hope this info is of some use.
