Can't import Panasonic P2

Hi,
I shot 3 cards full of footage last night and copied them to my laptop. When I try to import them into Final Cut Pro I get the message "One or more P2 clips failed to import, probable incomplete or corrupt clips"
When I import directly from the card, it is fine, so I know the clips aren't corrupt. The problem is, the first two cards I shot have been deleted. Any idea how to get this footage imported?
Thanks,
Mike

What kind of footage you shoot. FCP can't import e.g PAL 720P/25P/PN, what is very very annoying. I'm waiting that for that and hope it will come soon...or I'll have to change to PC, what I'll really don't want to do...there is e.g Edius for PC, what cost about 800 € and it supports europe PAL. Editing PC you'll get under 1000€
but
What you also need for your Mac is P2 driver, what you'll find here

  • Premiere CS5.5 can't import Panasonic 1080/50p footage

I have my Panasonic HDC-SD700 for about a year. It shoots in 1080/50p (I'am from Europe, PAL region). Everything was good in Premiere CS 5.0, I used it a lot for slow motion. Today I instaled Premiere CS 5.5 and it can't even import 50p clips. 25p clips are ok. After Effects CS 5.5 imports 50p footage perfectly. So where is the problem? Thanks for answering. Petr

I import (and process) 50p footage without problems from same camera (PAL) in CS5.5 ?  Don't know, what you may be missing?

  • Can not import Panasonic AGAF100 files

In the new 2014 Windows (7, 8) version, Panasonic MTS files are not supported, I try in 2 different computers and still gets the same result. Had to go back to previews version just to get it to work. In Mac it works fine.

Well, I was able to import the files after changing the extension from m2t to m2ts.
That took care of the problem.

  • Re: Can you import 1080 60P material in Elements 11, as an example from a Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder?

It is not about a slow computer (míne is new and fast) or an apple computer (I use windows 8) but it's about video quality and editing usability. Down under are the specifications of my camera, you can see the panasonic has different options and the MOV 50p had better quality (because of the higher bitrate), it is easier to use then the highly compressed AVCHD with video editing and I can use it also on a MAC (if I would like to). That is because I use MOV (and professionals like it too). So I need a MOV 50P setting and nog the AVCHD setting (I already installed the AVCHD setting as described above). It is true the panasocic is new and it is not very common in the consumer market to use MOV (most camcorders use AVCHD indead) and most DSLR don't have the 50p resolution yet it is still rare these days.
I hope there is anybody with a solution (I wish someone good give me a MOV 50p setting for PE11 and I'm happy!)

One of the beauties of Non Linear Editors is that at final output rendering, it goes to the source.  It is not rendered twice.
The single most confusing subject I've run into trying to learn editing is how this works.  Here is what I think happens.
First, you have to have a project setting that accepts your source files so that you can work in real time preview with smoothness.  The computer is doing "real time project rendering" for preview.  So, if Ann's suggestion works during the editing process, you're fine.  In other words, you may not NEED an exact match between your source footage and your project preset.  Let PrE pick the best it can when you slide the first clip to the timeline.
Second, when it is time to make your final product(s), you set the "output render" or "transcode" setting in the Share+Publish area.  You might need something optimized for YouTube, an iPhone or Hollywood.  The editing software then looks at what you have been doing in real time, goes to all the markers and transitions you have set and makes an entirely new file, the "video", by reading from your 50Mbps source files.
Somewhere here there is a long post from an Adobe tech who tried to explain it to me.  He emphasized that there was some relationship between the project setting and the output files, but the most important part was the output settings.
In the Share+Publish section there are a lot of presets.  For some you can change the frame rate and bit rate.  You should find something pretty close.
Your GH3 is so new, I've read little about it.  A 50 Mbps rate is twice what we've had at the consumer level for the last few years.  Have fun with that camera!

  • Can't import from DVD-R or DVD Ram media from Panasonic Camcorder

I recently bought a Panasonic DVD VDR-D300 camcorder. The device accepts DVD RAM, DVD -R and DVD -RW media. The camera comes bundled with software from Pixela Corp. that allows me to download media to my hard drive (I am using a 1.33 ghz G4 Powerbook with a 60 GB HD, running OS 10.4.5). The Panasonic camera uses MPEG-2 compression. The hook-up from the camera to my powerbook is USB (no firewire supplied). When the camera is hooked up to the Mac, Apple DVD player opens and controls the camera -playback, eject, fast-forward of the media in the camera, no problem. When I want to import the footage into iMovie to edit, the files are not recognized. Doesn't matter if its DVD RAM, DVD -R or DVD -RW media - iMovie can't import it.
I really like the camera - it's got 3 ccd's and looks better than other camcorders in its class. We've got an 11 month old and the main reason we bought the camera was to make movies on iMovie to show him later on down the line. I've got calls into Panasonic about this, but so far nothing. If I can't get it to import into iMovie, I'll probably have to return it for something more mac-friendly.
Would appreciate any and all input on how to remedy this issue. Thanks!

    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/import dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect your Camera to a DVD-player and copy to tape/use as converter

  • Can't import MP4 from Panasonic GH4 into Premiere CS6

Can't import 50Mbps MP4 from Panasonic GH4 into Premiere CS6 but I can import it into CC. Any workarounds to get it into CS6?
Another odd thing is that I can import the 50Mbps MOV from the GH4 into CS6 but can't play it using Windows Media Player (for quick review before importing) like I can the MP4. If someone knows how to get the MOV from the GH4 to play with Windows Media Player I'd start using that format instead of the MP4. Odd thing is that the 50Mbps MOV recorded with my GH3 can play in Windows Media Player.

I updated to the latest version CS6 and that solved the MP4 import problem. Still working on the other issue.

  • Can't import P2 Footage after 5.1.2 update

This one has me stumped. After updating to 5.1.2 I can not import P2 footage.
When I click on the import Panasonic P2 tab under the import menu, nothing happens. Then, I click on it one more time and the import window loads but there is nothing there (I see the dividing lines but there is no text or buttons to click...just a solid grey background).
Tried the usual...trashed prefs, rebuilt permissions, downloaded the full FCP update off of the apple website and re-installed.
Also pulled all my plug-ins out just in case it was somehow related to that issue.
    Still nothing.
Also, searched this form, creative cow and HVXUSER...no one else seems to have this issue.
    Any thing I am missing?
    - Chad
    Dual 2 Gig G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Same problem here on two different G5 machines after installing 5.1.2. Love the new import tool - but 10-20% of our clips just won't import anymore. Done all the recommended clean-ups and like many others on this forum and CreativeCow...it just won't work on some 24PN clips.
Getting desperate as we have daily shows that go out and need to get the rest of those clips in so I'm looking for any workarounds at this point and hoping Apple has a fix soon. This is clearly related to 5.1.2 as the same clips were previously imported in 5.1.1 and are readable in the P2 viewer and even playable in the 5.1.2 P2 import window.

  • Can somebody help me? Can't import videos that are already on my hard drive

i'm not the most technologically adept person. When it comes to iTunes, i plain stupid.
for some reason i can't import videos on my hard drive.
they are set to open in iTunes and if i double click on them, iTunes comes up and switches to the video screen, but it does not show the name in the list or play the video or anything. It's driving me nuts. Especially since i was considering buying an iPod video in the near future. But theres no point in even bothering if i can't get the videos into iTunes!!! If you know how to help my situtation or have any good tips let me know!!

You do not use the 'Import' function under the File Menu to import P2 card content because the video content is still in its native form. For example, my Panasonic HPX 171 produces .MXF video files (amongst all the other files and folders within the overall heirarchy).
In order to access the copied P2 information you have to Log & Transfer it, as if it were a camera plugged into the computer. This process then converts the MXF P2 files into a Quicktime format that the Final Cut application can read and work with.
Take note that when archiving a P2 card as you did it is imperative that ALL the other files and folders are copied and saved. In other words, the entire 'CONTENTS' folder. It is this 'CONTENTS' folder that you navigate to within Log & Transfer when you want to import to FCP.

  • Can't Import TIFs

can't import TIFs off my Pentax Optio 550. transfered files to my desktop and still can't get them into iPhoto. Used to be able to, but haven't shot in TIF format for a while, so this is the first time in iPhoto 5.0 and 10.4.3. i get a msg saying the file may be of an unrecognized type or may not contain valid data, and it gives the file path. but the files open fine in photoshop. i tried changing the extention to TIFF or eliminating the extension altogether, but neither worked. as they are straight out of the camera, there is no alpha channel to gum up the iPhoto works. other images in jpg format on the same camera card imported without problems, so it's not a communication problem with the camera. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am having a similar problem with tiffs from my Panasonic DMC-FZ3. When I used the camera in October there was no problem importing from my camera to iPhoto, but now I get the same error message as David Lewis: the files are either unsupported or corrupted. I get the same error from Preview. Likewise, the finder does not display a preview, and the creation date is blank (could this be the problem?). The files open fine in Photoshop, Graphic Converter, and several other graphics programs.
My camera takes each photo as both a tiff and a jpeg (it uses the jpeg for display on its built-in lcd). I can import the jpegs to iPhoto with no problem, but the tiffs will not import.
I have tried every suggestion I have found on this forum, from changing the file name, to repairing permissions, to changing ownership on the library, to running the daily, weekly and monthly unix maintenence scripts. My next attempted fix will be to run the 10.4.3 combo updater.

  • IPhoto can't import when card contains movies

    Hi all,
I have been suffering from a weird problem for a while: once in a while iPhoto refused to import images from an SD card and hung with the color wheel spinning until the next reboot. If interested, the original thread is here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3308591?tstart=0
I was never really able to track down the cause of this, it disappeared when the card was reformatted in the camera. Since it happened again today, I did some systematic investigations. It turned out that not only iPhoto, but also Image Capture is affected: As soon as an SD card plugged into the Mac contains a movie, things get messed up. In iPhoto, all I get is the spinning wheel.  In Image Capture, all images taken BEFORE the movie are shown as thumbnail pictures, but the movie and later images are not. Even if the card is ejected in Finder, Image Capture still shows it, but it shows no images. This continues even when the card is plugged in again and/or Image Capture is shut down and restarted. It remains until the Mac is rebooted.
If the card contains no movies, everything is fine. All this happens regardless from what card reader I am using (I tried two different ones) and what camera the files on the card were taken with (I tried a Casio Z-1000 recording AVI movies and a Panasonic FT-3 recording MOVs). The issue also appears regardless from the size of the movie file (I took a very short one, even smaller than a usual image file).
It only happens on my wife's Mac (2006 MacBook Pro CD 1.83 GHz, latest Snow Leopard, latest iPhoto). The problem does NOT appear at all on my 2008 MacBook (C2D 2.4 GHz, same software).
I can still import into iPhoto when simply copying the files to hard disk and importing from there. In contrast to what I described in the thread linked above, iPhoto now recognizes already imported images.
Any hints how to solve this are really appreciated!
    All the best,
    Thomas.
EDIT: This reads just like this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15860473#15860473
so at least I'm not alone with this problem.

    Phil:
Movies rotated with Quicktime Pro import into iPhoto OK. I downloaded and tried TransformMovie and it wouldn't import. It had been changed to a .mov file. There were some differences in the video portion as indicated by QT Player, mostly in video offset. But changing it to what the QT version was didn't help. When I did a Save As in QT Player the resulting file was importable. QT Pro is worth the money and more. You can do a lot of things with it.
EURIKA! Just change the file's extension back to .avi and it will import.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I can't import LX3 videos in LR4.x on win7-64bit

I have the following issue. I can't import the Panasonic LX3 files in Lightroom 4.x (including 4.2) on my main Windows 7-64bit PC. I get the error message "The movie files contain no video frames". All RAW files from the LX3 are imported correctly!
Strangely, i can import them on my MBP running MacOSX Lion.
Can anyone help me with fixing the issue?
    Many thanks,
    Alexander

If your video file isn't one of the supported formats, Lightroom 4.x can't open it. The list of supported formats is in this technote http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/video-support-lightroom-4-3.html
In case it is supported file format then make sure:
If QuickTime isn't installed and videos don't import or play, install QuickTime and retry importing or playing the videos.
If QuickTime is installed, make sure that you have the most recent version.
Restart your computer and retry importing or playing your videos.
Determine if you can import a still image, to make sure that Import is working correctly.
Try exporting the video file out as "original," then import that video back into Lightroom and see if it plays correctly.
Try to import or use a smaller clip from the same camera.
    Hope this help.

  • P2 Project - can't import.

    Hello,
I might just tell my story, and see if someone clever can spot the problems in this workflow, and hopefully tell me why I can't import my P2 footage into FCP.
Two weeks ago we shot a feature length musical festival doco with 5 HVX202 Cameras. All cameras shot at 720/50p except one that shot at 720/25p.
We had about three 8 gig and two 16 gig cards per camera. These were all run to our base-station and downloaded into two powerbooks connected to 1 TB firewire 800 drives.
There was also a brand spankin' Mac Pro networked to those drives on which some (not all) of the footage was viewed by our producers on the day. Apparently, it all played back fine. The Mac Pro had FCS 2 installed, and I believe it was running 10.4.10. (A late version of Tiger definately)
The MacPro has now flown back to Sydney, all the cameras and stores are back to the rental houses, and all I have are my 1.2 TB of footage, my powermac, my FCS1 and some very anxious producers whose calls I'm avoiding (for the moment).
My problem is that I can't import any of my footage. After going to the import>panasonic p2 option, my clip thumbnails display, but as soon as I try to import or import all, I get the message: "One or two clips failed to import; Probable incomplete or corrupt clips", which I refuse to believe, because of the successful playback our TD said he had on the Mac Pro.
The cards were copied to HD using Apple's recommendations - copy the lastclip.txt and contents folder into a new folder on the destination drive.
They are now arranged in folders named "Cam A Card 001" "Cam A Card 002"etc.
The apple documents I've read so far regarding this are the "Late-Breaking News
About Final Cut Pro 5" Document that outlines the benefits of each upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1.4, and the "Workflow for Final Cut Pro and the Panasonic AG-HVX200 HD Camera". I might have missed something.
    Other complicating factors include -
After the shoot, I upgraded my system in the hope of editing this film at home. I went from 10.3.9 to 10.5, from 1 gb of RAM to 3 gb and from the production suite to FCS1. (I did a clean install).
I know it's a relatively cheap upgrade to FCS2, but I'm not getting any coin from the production until I cut something, so I'd prefer to avoid this if I can. I'm currently broke, and the deadline looms.
    Anyway.
Was just wondering if anyone had any bright ideas that might help me?
Codecs, updates, settings, wisdom, kind words. Anything.
    Thanks for your time,
    Bill.

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again. This fixes a lot of import issues.
Now...out of STOCK ANSWER mode here...
If you go FCS 2, DO NOT UPGRADE FCP to 6.0.2...this breaks the import options. You are having enough issues as it is. Upgrading to Leopard wouldn't have solved this issue...it might make things worse as it isn't fully tested with FCP. But, try what I suggest and report back.
    Shane
