Can't import photos

When I try to import photos in Bridge, I am getting an error message-'Adobe Bridge CS4 cannot obtain files from this device, Please ensure that the device is connected properly, or that the battery is charged, and try again.This is new behavior. It has worked in the past without any
hitches. I tried multiple versions of memory cards using two cameras and two different card readers, always getting the same message.
I was then able to import using all of the same media and devices in Lightroom.
The way that I do this is to plug in the card. I usually use a USB card reader for CF cards and the built-in reader on my Mac for S
D cards. I use the Get Photos from Camera command, select the photos, make the appropriate settings and click download. This has
always worked perfectly in the past.

When suddenly the behavior for Bridge changes first thing to try is a reset
preferences. For this quit Bridge, restart the application while pressing
the option (alt) key and from the provided menu choose reset preferences.
Now set the Bridge prefs again to your wishes and try if it works.
Did you by any chance have upgraded your OS to 10.6 after the behavior
showed?. And have you installed the latest update for OSX 10.6, should be
10.6.2
This has
always worked perfectly in the past.

I work at a Learning Center that has 12 iPads on the same iTunes and iCloud account. Each classroom uses an iPad assigned to their room to take photos. Each of these photos then shows up in the Photo Stream in all 11 of the other iPads. I have no trouble importing photos that are in the Camera Roll of any individual iPad, but I have not been able to import photos from the Photo Stream if the picture was not taken on the specific iPad I am using. It is not feasible for me to collect all 12 iPads everyday to import everyones photos, so how can I use one "master" iPad that will let me import photos from the Photo Stream since it has all the photos that everyone has taken?

You downloaded an iCloud backup to your PC? I assume you mean you downloaded your photo stream to your PC. What you may not know is that photo stream only keeps your photos for 30 days. After that, they are deleted from photo stream but not from any device that already has them (such as your phone). When you enabled photo stream on your PC you only had access to photos from the last 30 days since the others are no longer there, even though they remain on your phone.
To transfer these to your computer at this point you have two options:
Save them to the camera roll on your phone (by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. (You can only import photos to your computer from the Camera Roll album.) Then import them to your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083; or
Use an app like PhotoSync, which can wirelessly transfer photos from any album between your devices/computers, including the my photo stream album.
In the future, always import your photos from your camera roll to your computer via USB before deleting them. Don't rely on photo stream or your iCloud backup to save your photos.

YES Terence! Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop. But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now. Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore? I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs. I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly. I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?! I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.

I have the exact same issue, but with a standard IMAP account and SMTP. My iPhone can send out, using the EXACT same settings, from the exact same WiFi connection...but the 10.8 MacBook cannot send at all. The only account I can send out on is my iCloud account.
I have also tried all the steps above...no luck.
I have also turned off all network filters and firewalls...no luck. (And as I said above, my iPhone is on the exact same WiFi connection and using the exact same settings, and it can send fine.)
Other messages I've found via Google have suggested simply forcing the SMTP server to use Port 25, but that didn't work for me either.

I'm puzzled! I had received a set of jpg files through an e-mail on my ipad. For reasons unknown to me, they got saved to my (only) album, that had an irrelevant name. When I tried to change the name of the album, I received a message that I could only change the name of the album after importing them to the computer where (as I recall) iTunes resided. After much huffing and puffing, I managed to import the photos, to the Windows computer, but they wound up in a Windows Photo Gallery directory, where I put them into an appropriately named album. Now, how do I get them back to the iPad. (I also learned, I think, that iTunes will have nothing to do with the photos.

For photos taken with the iPhone or saved from emails/websites then on a PC you should be able to use the Windows Camera Wizard or just copy them via Windows Explorer (there is more info on this page).
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPhone, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

Open the older library and export the Photos from it to the Finder (File -> Export) and switch to the new Library and import those.
Or, use iPhoto Library Manager to move the photos, plus all the versions and associated metadata to the new Library.

thanks for the reply. would you please tell me how to check for the folder to have write permission. I have done the same settings as before but this time does not transfer. It says can not read files with a code "298". I can see the thumbnails on the screen prior to trying to import the photos, also can see them with the card in the camera and using the view mode. I can't import photos in Lightroom 3.4. No problems with Lightroom 3.3, seems to be due to the 3.4 update.
Connected Nikon D80 directly to laptop (MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5). Upon import (RAW) get error message "The following files were not imported because they could not be read." Previews show up OK. I'm importing to an Iomega external HD with 321 GB available, and "Make a Second Copy To" a Maxtor external HD with 300 GB available.
Also tried using a SanDisk card reader (ImageMate SDDR-99 V3) with same results.
I've tried 3 different SD cards: Kingston 2GB, PNY 4GB, and Lexar 2GB, all with same results.
I've tried importing JPG photos from Nikon Coolpix S6000, with same results.
I've even copied JPG files to laptop HD, and tried importing that way. Get same error message.
I've optimized the catalog, and still won't work. (Catalog contains 14,422 images.)

Also tried different USB ports on laptop, with same results.

Problem resolved...Ran disk repair on Iomega HD. Disk Utility found and repaired problems. Uploads to Lightroom now function as normal.

I am migrating from a 2009 ibook to a Macbook pro 13.3 retina. How can can I import photos from iPhoto 9.2.3 library to the 9.6 iPhoto.
I am running 10.6.8 snow leopard on the ibook which has 4Gb of memory.
I tried but it just loaded icons to the 9.6 library.
I am reluctant to go to Yosimite on the ibook and it seems this would not solve it anyway.

You don't import one library to another. Just copy the library from the iBook to the Pictures folder on shout new MacBook Pro. If you have another library already on the MBP rename it so you don't overwrite it with the old library.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library and let iPhoto convert it to the new version.
Do you have photos in the library on the new MacBook Pro that you want to combine with the older library?
