Can't import project from older version

I can't import project into a newer version of final cut as the project is whited out.and when i do get around it the error says:
The document "CurrentVersion.fcpevent" could not be opened Final cut pro cannot open files in the "final cut pro event" format.
I'm working in 10.0 and trying to open on another computer in 10.1.4
Any ideas would be great.
thanks

10.0 and 10.1.4 are very different, but in neither of the the procedure included "opening" such files.
In 10.0, you simply let the content be in the designated locations and the program would find it.
In 10.1 and beyond, projects and events reside in libraries, which are now like regular FCP X "documents" thare are opened and closed in the common way documents usually are.
To use older material, you need to update it. This is done by letting the stuff in its original locations, starting FCP X and doing File->Update Projects and Events... This creates a new library with your old material.

  • Import project from older version of GB

Hey all , just wondering if I can import a song I was working on in GB 11 into GB 10 so I finish there.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks, Jim.

    Jim,
GarageBand 10 can open GarageBand '11 songs. But it will convert the project  to a new format and save a new copy, and you will not  be able to open the new version in GB '11.
To open your GarageBand '11 song on GarageBand 10.0, launch GB 10.0 and use the "File > Open" menu.  or ctrl-click the project and select "Open with GarageBAnd 10.0" from the contextual menu.

  • IMovie 10 Can NOT Import Files from Older iMovie Projects

I have older iMovie projects on an external drive and want import/upgrade them to iMovie 10.
After choosing the old projects, iMovie 10 examines the old projects for a while and then gave me a list of files that it cannot import. The files I remember on the very long list are .plist and iMovie project files.
Should I be concerned?  In other words, is iMovie 10 now using a new file format that makes these files superfluous?  Will iMovie going to incorporate their information in the new architecture, or will some functionality be missing from the imported projects?
    I'm running iMovie 10.0.2 on OSX 10.9.2 on a 27" iMac.
Thank you for your time and attention.

I'm going through my old iMovie projects and importing them one-at-a-time into iMove '11 (ver 9.0.9, build 1795)
I don't know the version of the projects that I'm importing but they have this directory structure and have file creation dates in 2007:
Unfortunately, when I import them, I lose most of the editiing that from the old project:
In case you can't read the area in red, it says:
    Notes about the imported project:
All transitions wll be replaced by Cross Dissolves.
Titles and music tracks will not be imported.
Video effects will not be imported.
Isn't there a way to import older iMovie projects in their entirety and completely intact?
Thank you for your time and attention.

  • Import vault from older version

I have a vault created on an old Mac Book (this has died and is not accessible to me) that I need to restore onto a different computer with Aperture 3.0 on it.
i have tried to restore the vault but get an error that the vault was created with and older version and to import the vault instead. I click import and get the very (un)helpful error message that Aperture was unable to find the necessary information to import the vault.... and nothing.. that's it, no further clue.
How can I import this vault?
    Regards
    Chris

Kirby, Thanks - I can't upgrade to 3.3.1 because according to the download page http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1553 that version required OS X 10.7.4 or later. I have OS X 10.6.8 and my version of Aperture is 3.1.2 which I think is as up to date as I can get on that version of OSX. The last time I checked for software updates nothing was download for Aperture as I recall, a couple of months ago.
I can't update that computer (a Mac Mini) again at the moment because it doesn't have internet access. It is installed on a boat, in a marina in deepest darkest Uruguay. I can only get internet access by lugging a laptop (windows) somewhere. I certainly can't upgrade to OS X Lion.
Anyway I tried to follow your instructions with what I have and these are the dialogues that I received.
    I created the new library
Then did File - Vault - Restore Library ( note that Restore vault is not an option)
I choose to restore the library
I then get the error message
"Photos 1 backup" was created by an older version of Aperture, and can not be restored by this version.
To import the contents of the vault, select the import button
I click import, and receive this error message
    Library import error
The library connot be imported because some the data required for import could not be found
The file is on a hard drive which according to the info is "Mac OS extended (journaled)"
Hmmmm just noticed that if I get the info for the vault file it shows as only 4k... is that just showing the folder size or is the vault empty?

  • Problem with imported pdfs from older version

I'm working in CS4. The InDesign document I'm working on was originally done in an older version of InDesign (not sure which). It contains imported pdfs that were created in CS2 and CS3. When I export to pdf the older imported pdfs don't display properly on my client's PC - the type is not there, only boxes with question marks - but the pdf looks fine on my screen. I upgraded from CS2 to CS4. The only way I've gotten around this is to export the CS4 InDesign document as an .INX file, have a friend open it up in CS3 and save down to an .INX file again, open the doc up in CS2, create the pdf from CS2, and open it in the older version of Acrobat. Then my client sees the type clearly on their PC
I'm using Suitcase (thought it was a font issue, but I don't think so now as the fix seemed to be between the CS versions.
Anyone else have this problem and/or a better solution? I'd like to be able to simply export a pdf and be done with it.
    Thanks!

    Thats it thank you!
There was a text wrap applied to all the graphics. its working perfectly now!!
    Thank you again!!!

  • Working with projects from older version of FCPx

Recently upgrade to 10.1.2  Having been unable to export following updating OS to 10.9.3.
i still have the project files on my HD that I was working on prior to the update. My question is, how do I import these into the version I am working with now, as they are not in a library?

YYou don't import projects and events. You update them from within the app.
    HAve these been updated already?
Have you trashed prefferences? Command + Option when you launch will bring up a dialog.

  • Can I import projects from the full version of Final Cut Pro X from when I was using the trial version?

So I recently purchased the full edition of Final Cut Pro X, and was wondering why one of the projects I was working on at the time it expired imported back into FCP without asking me, but the other did not.  I really need to use this file, but it is in the format of .fcpproject, so I really don't understand why I am not able to use it.  It sometimes says when I try to open it that the version of that project was made in an updated version of FCP, or something to that affect, so it cannot be used.  I have no idea why it says this, because as far as I know that is un-true.  Any ideas?
Edit:  I also don't want to delete the trial yet, a little apprehensive, like maybe I need it.  But I might if it comes to that.  I suppose the time did run out so it is practically worth nothing...

You do not open fcpproject files. You don't double click or anything else. The files have to be in the correct folder structure in the Final Cut Projects folder and the application opens them automatically. Can you post screen shots of the Final Cut Projects folder and its location.

  • Can import project from trial version?

    Hi,
I've been playing with PSE8 trial version, and I've created a slideshow project.  If I upgrade to the real version, will I be able to import the project I created with the trial version?

Has anyone tried Barbara's suggestion of smply entering serial number without uninstalling the trial version?  Is it problem-free?

  • Importing project from previous version

I just updated to the latest version of Premiere pro. Now I can't open my most recent project. I click OK. Then an empty project file opens up. When I go to import the previous file into the new project, it imports as an empty folder.
How can my project be converted to the latest version of Premiere Pro?

It did not work. I do not even get the 'Convert project' dialog box anymore.
I am going to finish the project in cc7 but I would still like to figure this out.

  • How can I get themes from older version of iDVD installed on my new machine?

I recently tried to open an iDVD project that I haven't opened in years. I got the following error Message:
"The Project you chose uses a theme that is not installed. You must install the theme before continuing."
I clicked OK and then a menu popped up saying that I could download the theme(s) via Software Update. So I selected Download now. Software update opened and said it was checking for updates. Then after it was finished it said there was no new software for my computer and closed.
The Project was created using iDVD 4.0.1 on a PowerMac G4 and now I'm trying to open it using iDVD 7.0.4 on an intel iMac . Any help about how to get the correct themes installed would be appreciated. Thanks.

The only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
The iLife 11 disc only provides the themes from iDVD 5 - 7.  None of the updaters available from the Apple Download site contain the earlier themes

  • Premiere CC 2014: Message on loading project from older version: This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration (CUDA)...

After installing Adobe CC 2014 I have each time a message when loading an old Adobe pro project. Message:This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration (CUDA), which is either not available or not certified on this system. Mercury Playback software will be used. I have very recent HP Zbook 15 with a NVIDIA Quadro K2100M. At webinar today it was explained how to solve this, but sound was not understandable at my machine at that moment. Help? What need I to do.

Problem is solved since yesterday via Adobe helpdesk. It appeared that the newest driver for the NVIDIA were note present. So after downloading the new drivers it work. But I think Adobe should mention those issues when they launch new versions of Adobe CC like in June.

  • Elements can't find photos from older version

I installed Photoshop Elements 11 today on to my new Windows 7 computer, but have been unable to access the photos, categories and slideshows which I had created in Elements 5 on my old Windows XP computer.  The Elements 5 ones were copied  from my old hard disk to the new one - without using any version of Photoshop in the copying process.  I believe that all the Adobe folders and files were copied, but I cannot work out which folder contains the photos.  Help please!  Al

  • Import projects from Premiere Elements 2.0

I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 and I have a saved project that I want to open in a more recent version. My friend has vista and if I download a more recent version on his computer, will I be able to open and view my saved project from 2.0? And if so, which versions will allow me to do this?
P.S. Unfortunately, it messes up everytime I try to export as quicktime/windows media/or as a movie, so instead I just want open it and watch it in the editing window. But since 2.0 is not supported on vista ( I use xp), I need to download a different version to view it on his computer.

Well, often Projects from older versions will Open in later versions, though sometimes not with everything intact. Each version adds certain features, and sometimes, features, like Transitions, are eliminated. You success will be based on a great big "it depends."
As for which versions will be better at opening a PrE 2.0 Project, one will likely be limited. PrE 8 is the current version. There might be a trial for PrE 7 still up on the Adobe site, but I do not know with certainty. Of those two, I would think that PrE 7 might be the better candidate, but there will still be no guarantee that your PrE 2.0 will Open, or Open properly.
Personally, I would Export/Share (do not remember the exact syntax in PrE 2.0) to DV-AVI and then just play that resulting file on the friend's computer.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Opening projects from older Premiere versions in CS5.5 ?

    Hello!
I'm trying to help my wife, who's using Premiere Pro CS5.5.
She edited a movie in an old version of Premiere. We have all the files from the project, but no longer have access to the machine she edited on. We are about 95% sure that it was edited on Premiere Pro 2.0 for Windows. (It might have been on a slightly older Windows version).
We've just installed Premiere Pro CS5.5 on her computer. We're having a number of problems importing the file. Some of them we're solving quickly, some of them a little less so. I wanted to check on the forum to check a couple of things:
    1) Just to be sure: Is Premiere Pro CS5.5 for Windows supposed to be able to work with projects from Premiere Pro 2.0? From older versions? Is there an easy way to figure out what version of Premiere the project file was created in?
    2) Is there any sort of FAQ or anything we might consult about issues that typically come up when importing from older versions of Premiere?
We are sort of puzzling though this together. I'm usually the computer problem-solving guy around the house, but I don't know anything about Premiere...
Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Todd_Kopriva wrote:
Yes, Premiere Pro CS5.5 can open projects created in any previous version of Premiere Pro (and version 6.x of Adobe Premiere).
    Great to know!
If you bring specific issues to this forum as they arise, we may be able to help.
Okay. We'll play around a bit on our own, and I'll see if we can summarize problems we can't figure out.
I don't suppose there's any sort of FAQ about common problems in importing from old versions or anything?
