Can't Import PSD as an Asset

No matter how I try to work around it, any introduction of a psd file into assets crashes DVD SP3.
Photoshop CS
DVD Studio Pro 3
OS X 4.8
G4 Dual 450   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

4 steps to follow before using PSDs with DVDSP:
1. save as a copy, because you are about to remove some of the editable attributes of your file.
2. flatten, merge, or rasterize any layers that have layer effects applied.
3. flatten, merge, or rasterize any editable type layers.
4. select all and crop the image to remove any pixels outside the canvas
Every now and then, I get a photoshop file that simply refuses to import. In this case, I usually bring all the layers into a new file. If you create a layer set, you can drag the layers to the new image all at once.
Hope this helps -

  • How can I import psd photos from Elements into iPhoto?

I cannot import psd photos into iPhoto without saving them to the desktop, which is a real hassle (hundreds of photos).  Am I doing something incorrectly?  Thanks for any advice.

I may be preaching to the choir here but this might be of help to you:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 or later the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (click on the Edit button) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Premeire Elements 13 - can't import files into Project Assets, Expert Mode.  Win8.1

Hello there - I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling.  Can't seem to figure this out.  In other computers, I have imported files into the Project Assets area to "pre-edit" before adding to timeline.  I can add media directly to timeline in Quick Mode, but it's too cumbersome.  Really need ability to select segments of media in the Project Assets list.
Any help greatly appreciated as I spent a ton of $$ on a new computer and program!!

  • Can't import PSD from Photoshop

This is weird. Trying to import a PSD file. Error message from PPro cs6 is "We were unable to open the file on disk."
The file is a still image that came to me as a JPG. I read it into Photoshop cs6, cropped it, made the canvas 1920 x 1080 (to match the size of the PPro sequence), did some retouching, and ended by running the Broadcast Safe Luminance action on it. Then I saved it into the PPro project folder as a *.PSD file. Like I've done hundreds of times now with dozens of PPro projects.
Went to PPro cs6. Found the file using Media Browswer. File...Import From Media Browswer gives me a pop-up Preview In Source Monitor Failure window with the "We are unable to open the file on disk." error message.
What makes this all the more frustrating is that PPro can find and open the file that I worked on just prior to this one. Same conditions, same workflow, same directory, same protections on the files (I did check that). The two files look to be exactly the same except for the file name, and the file contents. Everything else is as identical as I can make it. And none of my disk drives are even half full, so it shouldn't be a space issue.
So if PPro can read one, why can't it read the other? And what can I do to get PPro to behave properly and read the file? The files don't seem to be corrupted -- Photoshop can read both of them just fine. In any case, I've recreated the problem file from the *.jpg source several times now so I think I can rule file corruption coming from Photoshop out. Maybe.
I've wracked my brain for 90 minutes trying to figure out what changed between the first file that works, and the second one that doesn't. I've come up empty. I worked on one, then the other, then imported the first on into PPro (which worked), then imported the second one into PPro (which failed). Exact same source (both files were *.jpg attachements on the same email), same workflow, saved into the same directory. ARGHHHH!!!
I've done most of the "usual suspects". I've exited out of both Photoshop and PPro and restarted. I've saved the problem file in other fomats (same error no matter what format). So I turned to Teh Google, which didn't turn up much that pertained. Couldn't find anything in the Adobe help docs. So, anyone here tell me what's going on?
    Bruce Watson

Few things to check - is the Color Mode of the PSD RGB. It cannot be CMYK, or a few others.
I have had issues with Smart Objects, in that sometimes, they Import fine, but not always.
Tiny Layers (just a couple of pixels x pixels) have cause problems.
Adjustment Layers have been known to cause problems.
Normal Layers, so long as not tiny, always work perfectly for me.
Nothing else that comes to my mind, but good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can't import MPEG a/v asset

    Hi.
When importing a DVD compliant MPEG file, I get the follwoing error:
"Sorry, an abnormal condition has been detected ..."
The asset contains MPEG-2 video (<= 15 frames per GOP, bitrate <= 9.8 Mbps, ...) and MP2 192 Kbps and AC3 2.0 256 Kbps audio. The a/v was muxed using ImagoMPEG-Muxer. The file is fine, since every other software (DVDlab, VirtualDub, ...) plays the file w/o any problem.
Now ... (1.) if I demux the file manually using Project.X, DVD Encore is able to read it properly. Also ... (2.) if the file doesn't contain AC3, the import also works fine.
Questions ... (1.) is this a know problem and (2.) what can I do about it?
This all happened during my first Encore tests, and I have to say that I'm not very impressed after this error hit me after the first 5 minutes already :( !
    Thanks.

    @Neil
No, it's not a VOB. It's an .mpg conatining DVD compliant video and audio files. The proof is that (1.) that the demuxed data is accepted, and that (2.) the same .mpg, but without AC3, works fine.
    @Ruud
I mux because I'd like to keep a/v files together (easier to handle). Yes, I know that 9.8 is video + every audio stream. I'd well (!) below that limit.
This issue here seems to be that Encore doesn't like (for some reason) AC3 in a muxed .mpg file. There's no reason for that!
    Can someone confirm this?
    Thanks.

  • Can not import PSD file (comes in as Quicktime Picture)

I've created a PSD for a layered menu in DVD Studio... but I can not get it to come into DVD Studio as layered PSD... comes in as QuickTime Picture.
PhotoShop - I am using PhotoShop v8.0 The image size is 720x486, 72 dpi. I have 18 layers, and have Rasterized all of the layers.
DVD Studio Pro - I am using version 4.0.3
I've had this problem, and it seems to be intermitent... some files work fine, others do not. I've been going back to an older version of Studio Pro to import the file, then opening it up in DVD Studio Pro 4. I'd like to find a fix.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Quick update:
I opened a new PSD file, dragged all of the layers into the new PSD file... saved it &... it works! It comes in as a Photoshop Still. Why? As far as I can tell, the 2 PSD files are identical. Any thoughts on settings within PSD to insure I can import files into DVD Studio without issue?

  • Can't import psd file InDesign CS5 on PC

Hi I'm helping a friend who has InDesign CS5 on a PC. I worked on 60 images on a Mac and saved them as psd files (necessary for transparency, etc.) but when I try to import them into her InDesign file, I get an error message saying something to the effect that the path is missing and therefore the image will not import. I have lot's of experience on the Mac but have never worked in a PC environment before - never had this problem on Mac. Thanks for any help!!

The only possible invalid part of the file name would have to be an underscore, ie. Image_crop.psd
The files were stored on a removable drive - will try importing from the harddrive in a simply named folder. Thanks!

  • Encore 1.5 can't import assets

Hi, I have been an Encore 1.51 user for years with no problems.  Now suddenly, half of my projects won't open at all, and I can't import any assets.  I use Premiere Pro 1.5 to edit video and have tried to export different types.  I get a message that says "could not import file.  The file may be corrupt or type may not be supported"  Does anyone have any ideas to solve this problem?

Have you tried creating a New Project, and then attempting to Import any of the suspect files. If you have, with yet another New Project, can you Import any "known good" Assets?
I'm with Jbowden. When something works one day, but the next, then something has changed. You've ruled out CODEC's and CODEC "packs" - would be my first guess too.
How about any MS updates to your OS, or segments of it? By default, these updates are set to automatic, and take place behind the scenes, so the user might not even be aware of them. They have a tendency to render obsolete many audio and video drivers, though that does not seem to be an issue here. Still, OS updates can cause other problems. QuickTime Player is also vulnerable to these, and there is the smallest of chances that it could have some play here.
Any hardware, like a Matrox card, that was either installed, or uninstalled?
If no to all of these, then the uninstall and reinstall of Encore 1.5 would be my suggestion too. Let's hope that this fixes the problem.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] any Adobe trial software installed, or uninstalled, like CS4?

  • Crash when importing psd (PSL Cache error)

    Hi,
When I import a Photoshop file, AE crashes with this alert:
    After Effects Alert
    Last log message was: <140735304074000>
    <SyncService> <4> CheckConnection: 3.
Generating crash log, which may take a few minutes.
I'm following the instructions for lesson 1 in the Adobe book, After Effects CC: Classroom in a Book. The first few steps are to import a group of files. I import the footage files first, then when I try the .psd file, AE crashes.
    Here are my specs:
    AE CC 2014 Version 13.0.2.3
    OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
    iMac 21" late 2009
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    12 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB (I installed the CUDA driver on another account of this iMac--should only need to be done once, no matter whose account, right?)
Connected over wifi to a Belkin router.
    UPDATE:
I switched my wifi connection to the 5 GHz band and tried again (since some online searches seemed to indicate this error message had to do with TCP) and got a new error when trying to import the .psd file:
<ALOG> <5> PSL AE Interface Cache Cache
    created: /Users/[myname]/Documents/Lesson01/Assets/bgwtext.psd.
    UPDATE:
Switched to ethernet, got the same <ALOG> <5> PSL message, switched back to 2.4 GHz wifi and still get the same message. I cannot replicate the first SyncService error message.
The Adobe Creative Cloud is connected to the Internet and can download other Adobe applications, however Photoshop Elements 6 shows a "No Internet connection" message when I try to update it. Adobe Acrobat Reader updates fine.

I solved it by installing Photoshop CC and opening it up (so that it initialized). I can now import .psd files without AE crashing.

  • Can't import any .psd files into after effects.

    Hello all.
I was using CS5 master collection without issue, for a year.
Decided to upgrade to the CS6 master collection and that’s when the problems began.
For example, I can’t import any .psd files into AE.
All files are saved in RGB mode.
The previous files were made on CS5.
I made a new .psd file in CS6 with just a couple of layers on it, couldn’t import that either.
I’ve tried Ctrl-alt-shift to delete preferences, that had limited success. I can import a file and do a little bit of work on it but as soon as I close the file down and opened it up again, it does not recognise the .psd file.
The errors I’m getting in AE are many
    For example:
After Effects warning: Reading past end of file
After Effects error: Could not open intro.psd because it is not a valid Photoshop document
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message:<8104><dynamiclink><5>C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro exe
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialise PSL
    I have un-installed and re-installed many times.
    I’m using Windows 8, with 32ram. Hard drives C: 100mg, D: 2 Tb
I’ve tried installing on both drives, still the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there in Adobe Land have any ideas?
    Totally confused
    Cheers,
    Gary.

    Hi Arie,
    Thanks for your response.
It actually happens with every .psd file regardless of size or specs.
All the other programs in the CS6 master collection work fine, except for AE and PS.
I tried the small file. Created a small file, 100 px by 100px 72dpi, just with a gradient background. Same thing, not enough memory to initialise PSL.
I got the adobe cleaner, and re-installed on my system (again) .... same thing.
As long as I open AE with doing ctrl-alt-shift every single time or export layers from PS individually I seem to be OK.
The problem is far from solved, so I guess i just have to put up with workarounds.
Thanks for taking the time to respond

  • How can we import Fixed asset of the current year ?

    Hi ,
in 1272578 note , SAP Support explain that's it's not possible to create fixed asset of the current year( example = acquisition date = 2009-02-01 )  using import , but they gave no workaround .
does it mean that we have to manually create all assets of the current year ? or there is another way ( using DI-API for example ) ?
    Thanks

    Good day
The fixed asset master data import functionality in SAP Business One is used to import assets of the previous year. If you are to force the importation of current year assets some of them might load but system will not be able to calculate planned depreciation for that year, which will give u problems when u try to run depreciation forcing u to post manual depreciation.
With manual depreciation will not look good on the Fixed Asset Master since it sort of duplicate depreciation ONLY on the Master your report will be fine.
Capturing Current year assets manually will be the safer road.
    Thanks
    Louis

  • Why does Premiere Pro CS3 no longer import .psd files?

Over in the German forum, BjoernG has already asked this question as of this past June.  He's gotten no answer, so let's try it here.  Like Bjoern I use PPro CS3.  Mine is on WinXP with all updates.  I import PSD files as keying masks.  I've never had a problem until this evening (27 Aug 2014).  I tried to import a mask I've used many times before.  And it has always worked before.  Tonight PPro refused to recognize .psd as a supported file type, so it didn't show in the import folder file list.  When I told PPro to show "all files *.*", it showed the file.  When I selected it, PPro even showed the "import file" window, then displayed the "File Import Failure" window with Error Message:  File format not supported.  See the picture.
This is a file I've imported into many previous projects with no problem whatever.  In fact, I started with a project file from last year which showed the mask file in the project assets but offline!  Even though the file had not been moved.
If PPro CS3 is as obsolete as Adobe claims it is, then who's been messing with it?  And how can we get it "unmessed"?

I couldn't imagine what any of those steps would do for my problem – but I didn't have a better idea so I tried them:
    > If Premiere is acting weird, restart computer.
It's a laptop, so it was off all night.  I turned it on this morning.
    > Hold down shift+alt while opening Premiere.
If I hold down shift-alt before clicking the desktop icon, all it does is select all icons from top left to the Premiere icon.  It does not start Premiere.
If I press and hold shift-alt immediately after clicking the icon, Premiere displays every tiny module it loads rather than summarizing.  I held shift-alt until Premiere was fully up and idle.
    > Then empty all media cache.
I did that.  As I write, Premiere is busy reconstituting all of that.
Then finally, the acid test:  Try to import a .psd file.  Bzz-z-zt!  Still claims it's an unknown file type.
    > jpegs do not have transparency. You can save as png instead.
I'm using it as a track matte key, so white is equivalent to transparent.  I do have to select "matte luma" instead of "matte alpha" in the effect.  I'll save your advice in case I ever do need transparency.
Follow-up:  I checked my other licensed copy.  It accepts .psds just fine.  I checked Help About for both; they're identical:  3.2.0 (374).  So the problem must be in an internal setting, an external influence, or a defective module.  And remember, it's not just me, Björn in Germany reported the identical problem in June.

  • Can I import a menu from Premiere elements 7(the Popcorn menu) into Encore CS4?

Can I import a menu from Premiere elements 7(the Popcorn menu) into Encore CS4?
If so how do I accomplish this act?
Are their additional menus available for Encore CS4?

The Menus in PrE are in Menu Sets. Each set is a Main Menu and a Scene Selection Menu. As PrE does the authoring semi-automatically, there are many "extras" in those PSD's, in the Button Layer Sets. All you have to do is make a Copy of your two Menus into a separate folder, so that you do not worry about messing up your Menu Sets in PrE. I'd do this in a new sub-folder in the Encore Library folder hierarchy. Then, Open each of these two Menus in PS. Go in and clean out all of the other languages for the Text and Button Text. Match the Layer Set/Button Layer Set names to those naming conventions in the Encore Library Menus, as you will not be getting any semi-automation. Where you do not need, say a Next Button, just eliminate that Button's Layer Set. Remember, PrE will do this semi-automatically, plus will give you the number of Scene Selection Menus, that your Project calls for - Encore will not. You must count the Scenes, divide by the number of Buttons on that Scene Selection Menu, and do Copies of that Menu, to accommodate what you require.
As for Encore, it comes with a full compliment of Menus, Buttons, and other Assets, like EM files (Templates), with Motion and Audio Assets. All can be completely customized in PS. Note: in PSElements, I do not believe that you can create Layer Sets, so that will be a limitation. The full PS has no limitations, with the single exception that to change Button Sub-picture Highlight colors, this must be done in Encore's Menu Editor, unless it's been added to PS CS5.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - remember, work on Copies of the two Menus in the PrE Menu Set, and NOT on the originals, or you will be doing a Repair Install to get those back.

  • (How can we) Import Flash Professional .FLA file format?

How can we import a Flash Professional .fla file format into Flash Catalyst? It would appear that we can't...at least not yet! I have added this as a feature request within the adobe labs site for Catalyst. Someone at Adobe suggested that I also explore the forums, so here we are. If you would also like to have this feature added, please let Adobe know by promoting the
    idea.
Our use case is this: we have a large Flash file with a library of over one thousand skins and assets that were built in Flash with Adobe's Flex Skins Templates. These stateful, graphical skins were used within a custom theme by several Flex 3 projects.
Now that we are looking to migrate to FlashBuilder 4, and start to use Spark components, we are trying to find a workflow that allows us to use Adobe tools and to reuse our existing vector artwork. Since we have such a large number of assets, we are exploring various approaches, including the use of JSFL. So far we haven't found a good way to migrate from Flash-built skins for Flex 3 to Catalyst-built skins for FlashBuilder 4.

    Hi Ajay,
    See attached V 7.0 example...
    Hope it helps,
    Nick
