Can't import RAW format

I have a new Panasonic DMC-FZ35, and a Macbook Pro w/ OS 10.5.8 and iPhoto '09. I tried taking some pictures in RAW format, and they won't import. Get a message that they are in an "unrecognizable format". Have tried creating a new library, didn't work. Help! Thanks.

TD is correct.
Your camera is not on the supported RAW list for 10.5: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475 (although the Panasonic DMC-FZ50 is on the list. Panasonic must use a different method of encoding RAW for the FZ30). Your camera is also not on the list for 10.6 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825.
You might want to let Apple know if you are interested in seeing this RAW type added to the OS. iPhoto > Provide iPhoto Feedback.
Re-saveing your RAW files to a usable format as TD suggests would be a good work around.
Cheers

Looking at this article, it doesn't look like that camera model is supported by iPhoto. You may want to get in touch with Sony and see if they have any software that will allow you to import/view it.

  • Can't import Raw to Aperture

I have a Macbook pro with Mac OS X 10.7.5, with aperture 3.4.4 and can not import RAW photos from my Canon G16 camera.

The RAW support for Canon G16 is part of the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 5.01
This bundle requires Mac OS X 10.8.5 or later or Mac OS X 10.9 or later to be installed. You will have to upgrade to Mavericks, if you want to use the RAW support for your camera.

  • I can't import raw files into lightroom

I have been using lightroom 4. I shoot with a nikon d300s. I recently used a nikon D610 and now it says preview not available. It also says the the raw images aren't able to import. So I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 and it still says preview not available. I need some suggestions on how to import them.

I don't use nikon software.  I just use lightroom. I just got lightroom 5. I tried to update to 5.3 but couldn't find the location where to find it.

Do you have Lightroom 5.3 or higher?
Did you use Nikon software at any point on these photos?

What update are you referring to?  If you do a search for "Kodak" in the iPhoto community you'll find numerous posts regarding problems with Kodak cameras.
So far there's no known fix.  The best workaround is to use a card reader with the memory card of the camera.

  • How can I import Raw files from a canon eos 6d?

How can I import RAW files from a Canon Eos 6D into aperture?

Doesn;t look like the 6d is supported yet. I'm surprised, thought it would have  been in the latest update, 4.02.
In the meantime you can shot RAW+JPG and use the JPG's now and then switch to the RAW's once it is supported or else you an convert the RAWs to DNG using Adobe's converter and import the DNGs.
While I can't say for sure  Canon cameras are usually supported fairly quickly so hopefully you won't have to much longer to wait.
    regards
And in the meantime let Apple now you want this see Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback

  • Importing raw format pics to PSE 12

Am having trouble importing raw format pics from Canon 70D to PSE 12.  Was told PSE 12 had all necessary software for that.  When try to download, message telling me that PSE 12 does not support my camera or format type.  Do I need to save my photos with different extension than cr2before importing?   Do I need to download PNG or updated software from Adobe site?  Thanks  for any help.  Rob

PSE12 ships with ACR8.0/8.1. Support for the 70D was in ACR8.2. Run Help> Updates, this updates  to ACR8.4 and you will have 70D support.

  • I can't import RAW files in LR4.4?

    Hi, i'm using LR4 updated to the latest version LR4.4, I tried to import my RAW pictures from my NIKON D3300 (.NEF) but I can't. it says the following;
'The files are not recognized by the raw format support in lightroom'. What does that mean? and how do I import those RAW files in LR4?
I can see the images preview, can't open them and can't import them. Help please?!

First, you don't have the latest version, and you need at least Lightroom 5.4 to open these photos.
If you don't want to upgrade (which costs money) to Lightroom 5.4, you can download the FREE Adobe DNG Converter (version 8.4 or later) and then use that software to convert your RAWs to DNG, and then import them into Lightroom 4.4.

  • Importing RAW format files into iPhoto 08

    Hi Guys,
I searched the back catologue and couldn't find any refs so hopefully this is a valid new post.
I use iPhoto 08 on an iMac and have always worked with importing jpegs from my cheap but faithful old camera. I now have a nice sexy (& expensive) new camera & can take pictures in RAW format for increased quality. IPhotos tutorials say that it supports RAW but everytime I try to import some files I get a "could not import file" message against the RAW files. My camera automatically takes a duplicate jpeg each time I make a RAW exposure and they import without any problems. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Many thanks. Steve

    Steve
    What camera is it?
The Raw from every camera model is different - note that's camera Model, not brand - and has to be supported separately. So, the Raw from a Nikon D3 is not the same as the Raw from a Nikon D3s and so on - even though they both produce files with a NEF extension. Same with Canon and it's CR2 files and so on.
Raw support can also depend the OS and version of iPhoto that you have.
    Regards

  • Can't import RAW files from Canon Rebel Xsi (450d)

I have to use an Adobe Camera Raw program to convert to DNG files and then import into iPhoto 08'. Not sure if I like DNG file and if there is any loss from converting. JPGS work fine. Love the Camera, shoots great photos. Does anyone know if Apple or another program that will convert into a Raw format from the Canon that iPhoto will take? Or will I just have to wait for a driver? I can import directly into Photoshop CS3 just fine.

That camera is so new that you're just going to have to wait for RAW support. Your option, in the meantime, is to use the Camera Raw conversion.

  • Can we import RAW photos into iphoto?

My brother-in-law has many photos from past reunions that are in RAW format. Can we import these into iphoto and have it work? I really want the photos but he thinks it won't work.
What are the steps? He says the file sizes are very large

    That's not enough.
The Raw format of each camera model - not make, model - is different. So the Raw of the Nikon D40 is not the same as the Raw from a D60, which is different from the D80 and so on.
But hey, have you tried plugging it in and seeing if it will import?
    Regards

  • Bridge can't read RAW format from my new camera

I just bought a new Sony SLT-A58 but Bridge says the he can't read the RAW format so, I can't download my photos.
I went online and found a Adobe Camera Raw 6.7.1 and a DNG Converter 7.4 plugins that supposidely would solve the problem. No avail. Still refuse to recognize the RAW format.
Desperate as this is my working camera and and need it up and runing asap. I had absolutely no problems with my older Sony A100.
What is weird is that... if I pass the photos in the converter, it shows me the .dng version of the photos so, something is there. Why can't Bridge see my RAW photos? ... and also, leave tons of caches and weird icons in the file, a real mess.
I am on Mac platform on OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and use CS5... and yes, all my programs and softwares are up-to-date.
    Thank you for your help...
    ... and Happy New Year

So if RAW support is specific, why do they do a plugin for CS5 and for my camera?
Adobe has released versions of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) right back to ACR 1.0 (which was compatible with Photoshop 7). However, supported cameras vary by ACR version and Adobe application version.
    You need to match:
    your camera make and model
the version of Camera Raw which supports your camera make and model
the specific version of Adobe software which supports the version of Camera Raw that you need.
In your case, the Sony SLT-A58 was first supported by ACR 7.4 - which is only supported in CS6 and later. CS5 is not compatible with ACR7.4.
Complete list of supported cameras is here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications are listed here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
CS5 is certainly not an antiquity and the Sony A58 is not a huge tech advanced Hasselblad. I have friends who have big Nikon and Sony A77 and Canon and import their RAW to their CS5 Bridge.
All that matters is which specific camera matches up with which version of ACR - and which Adobe applications are compatible with that version of ACR.
Can't comment on big Nikon or Canon mentioned above without specific camera model numbers.
However, the Sony A77 is supported by ACR6.5 which is compatible with Bridge CS5+. Easy to see why that combination works.
Similarly, your Sony A100 was first supported by ACR 3.5 which is compatible with Bridge CS2+. Easy to see why that works too.
Always read the Adobe tables linked above and cross-reference them with each other. That should clear up your confusion.

  • IPhoto selectively imports RAW format photos

First up - I am a complete Mac novice - my PC blew up a month ago and I thought "what the heck" and bought an iMac instead of a new PC. I have transferred all of my files over to the Mac and am very happy in general. Until I ran into this problem with iPhoto.
I have been slowly importing my photos into iPhoto over the past week or so, and everything has gone smoothly up to about 13,000 pictures.  I only have about 2,000 to go. I even managed to synch them with my AppleTv so can now watch them on my television.
However when I now import some of my photos (all are in RAW format) some of the photos for one photo shoot come in just fine, but some appear as white blank tiles. Note that in Finder I can see the preview of the photos just fine - but whenever I try to import them into iPhoto they just turn up as blank white squares.
I've tried lots of things to try and fix this, including:
    1. Doing all the rebuild things on iPhoto database by holding Cmd and Ctrl when launching iPhoto - didn't work
    2. Reinstalling the iPhoto database form a time capsule backup that i'd taken before the problem flared up and trying again to import - didn't work.
When I go to edit the photo in iPhoto - a grey triangle with an exclamation mark appears and it says "image cannot be edited, the original format is not supported" - but how can this be true when some of the other photos (in exactly the same format) are showing just fine.
The photos were taken on a Canon 500D and as far as I can gather, this has been a supported RAW format for quite a while.
My Mac version is OSX 10.9.5 (I've no idea if that's a Lion or a Leopard or whatever) and the iPhoto version is 9.5.1 (902.17).
Any help would be much appreciated - and please - be patient with me if at all possible - as I really don't know my way around a Mac at all.
    Many thanks
    SiFiWiFi

Terence - ok - not good news for me I'm afraid - Graphic Converter doesn't like the image either - it didn't show on the preview there and doesn't show up in the main program. I guess my images are corrupted beyond repair?
To be fair - my PC did die - and I've had no issues with reducing any other files - so I've gotten away pretty lightly if all I've lost in that process are some images (albeit of a best mate's wedding).
Is there anything else I can try, or are we pretty much done here?
I really appreciate both your help and your patience walking me through the options, even if it hasn't led to a positive conclusion.

  • Can't import LDIF format exported mail address to Address Book

New to iMac and trying full migration from PC
I have a LDIF format address file (exported from Comcast's Webmail in Netscape Communicatore LDIF format). Can't import the file to my new iMAC's Address Book.
Getting the following msg: No Cards Added. No importable cards were found.
It is a small file, there are records in the file- I opened the file with MS Notepad. I have opend the file with TextEdit as well and see the records in the file. Records have givenname:, sn:, mail:. xmozillanickname:, description:.
I've checked the FAQ, all support pages and there doesn't seem to be a solution.
    Is this ture?
    iMAc   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    I found a solution.
When I tried importing the mailboxes, I was selecting "Files in mbox format," because that's what they are, right? No. Apparently, I needed to select "Apple Mail" instead.
That imports everything under an Import folder, and then I can select the emails and drag them to the appropriate inboxes (after re-setting up the accounts).
Ugh, this is not easy. But I'm getting close.
(Oh, step 6 will be to clear off Time Capsule and start a new backup. But only after I'm convinced things are running right. Obviously, I will be looking at other options for catastrophic backup in the future.)
Another note: I first tried copying my entire user folder to my external drive. But after a few minutes of copying, that failed, saying that I didn't have permission to copy one or more files. It didn't tell me what it was, or ask whether to skip it. It just failed. So that's why I was left to selectively pick files.
Another lesson learned: Know your Time Capsule password. If you rely on Keychain for this, and your machine dies, you're going to have a hard time recovering (if it's possible).

  • Can't import RAW files into iPhoto 6 Library from Nikon D700

For whatever reason I am unable to import RAW files from my Nikon D700 into my iPhoto 6 (version 6.0.6) Library. I can import JPEGs from the D700, but it's no-go with the RAW files. When I attempt to import the RAW files I get the following message:
    "Unreadable Files
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
Can anybody solve this mystery for me?
    Bob

    Bob
I presume that the economically-priced Mac Box Set containing OS X 10.5.6 Leopard, iLife '09, and iWork '09 would be the way to go. Do you concur?
Well that's the cheapest way to do it. You could, of course, buy a new Mac
Do you feel that my 20" Intel iMac--details listed below--would have any problems handling the upgraded programs?
It will have no problems with the updated OS or applications.
'm uneasy at the thought of upgrading my operating system, but I presume that chances of running into problems are much less than if I were upgrading a Windows OS. In case a problem arises my entire hard drive is backed up with a 1T external hard drive using SuperDuper software, but I prefer not to encounter a situation requiring me to use it for restoration purposes.
The key to any update or upgrade is to make sure that you have a good working back up. That way, should anything go wrong, you have a quick way back to where you started.
My tips for upgrading the OS? Disconnect the disk with the back up and all other peripherals when you do the Upgrade. Pop the disk in. Do a standard Upgrade. (There are some folks who swear that you should wipe your HD and start over from scratch before you do, but, frankly, that's overkill. I've been upgrading Macs since 1992 and never had a problem.
