Can't Import TIFs

can't import TIFs off my Pentax Optio 550. transfered files to my desktop and still can't get them into iPhoto. Used to be able to, but haven't shot in TIF format for a while, so this is the first time in iPhoto 5.0 and 10.4.3. i get a msg saying the file may be of an unrecognized type or may not contain valid data, and it gives the file path. but the files open fine in photoshop. i tried changing the extention to TIFF or eliminating the extension altogether, but neither worked. as they are straight out of the camera, there is no alpha channel to gum up the iPhoto works. other images in jpg format on the same camera card imported without problems, so it's not a communication problem with the camera. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am having a similar problem with tiffs from my Panasonic DMC-FZ3. When I used the camera in October there was no problem importing from my camera to iPhoto, but now I get the same error message as David Lewis: the files are either unsupported or corrupted. I get the same error from Preview. Likewise, the finder does not display a preview, and the creation date is blank (could this be the problem?). The files open fine in Photoshop, Graphic Converter, and several other graphics programs.
My camera takes each photo as both a tiff and a jpeg (it uses the jpeg for display on its built-in lcd). I can import the jpegs to iPhoto with no problem, but the tiffs will not import.
I have tried every suggestion I have found on this forum, from changing the file name, to repairing permissions, to changing ownership on the library, to running the daily, weekly and monthly unix maintenence scripts. My next attempted fix will be to run the 10.4.3 combo updater.

    Pat,
Did you reinstall after updating to Yoesmite?
If not, you could try to reinstall using the full three step way, and see whether things work.
Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Can't Import Tif pictures in A2

A2 trial does not see and does not import Tif pictures from a cd, so i have to import from the cd to iPhoto and than export to A2.
Any suggestion to import directly in A2?
    Thanks!

solved. you need to quit and re-enter clicking to folder to get pictures, while it seems that A2 cannot import clicking import button when you are already working with it.

  • Can't import .tif file

iPhoto won't import a large tiff file of a pano, one about 50K x 3K pixels, 852MB. Wondering if the problem is that it's a tiff, or the file size, or the megapixel count, or something else?
It was saved in photoshop with no image compression, 'interleaved' pixel order, macintosh byte order, and 'discard layers, and save a copy'.
I'm googling but having trouble finding anything clear and concrete about tifs and iphoto. Using OS X 10.5.6 and iPhoto '08 7.1.5 and Photoshop CS3.

Thought I had it figured: maybe 30,000 pixels in one dimension was a problem for iPhoto as it is for photoshop--as best as I can tell, that is the limit in photoshop for refusing to save files as jpegs (if offers only tif, large document format, or one other for images over that size in one dimension).
To test this idea, I took the large pano, opened the full sized tiff file in photoshop, made files of 29999, 30000, and 30001 pixels max dimension. The first two were saved directly as jpegs, the third as a tiff file that was opened in preview and saved as a jpeg from within preview, which does not appear to have a size limit as does photoshop.
    Then I tried to import 29,999.jpg (17.8 MB), 30,000.jpg (17.8 MB), 30,001.jpg (20.2MB) and 30,001.tif (322MB) into iPhoto.
    Guess which imported successfully?
    30,001.jpg and 30,001.tif.
    I am so confused!

  • Importing .tif files in indesign CS2

    Hi all!!

Please see above for what I have selected from the media panel.
In terms of the 'PDF Interactive export dialog' I am not sure what you mean, could you please talk me through this?
This is the instructions that I have been following http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/dynamic-pdf-documents.html#create_interactive_docume nts_for_pdf
    However, where it says
    "Buttons And Media
Select Include All to allow movies, sounds, and buttons to be interactive in the exported PDF file. Select Appearance Only to include the normal state of buttons and the video posters as static elements."
I cannot seem to find this menu, the only one I can find is Buttons & Forms and when I open this all of the options are graded out.  Please see the screen grab below...

  • Unable now to import TIFs or to work with existing TIFs

This has been observed by other people but no answers forthcoming. I used to be able to import TIFs into an earlier version of iPhoto without any problem. However, now I cannot either import TIFs (error message warning of incorrect file type or similar text). Neither can I preview or work with those already imported prior to installing iPhoto6 and/or latest OSX updates.
Is there anyway of extracting the existing TIFs in the library ? I can't find any easy way to select by file type or filesize.

    Roger:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Where are those tiffs located that give you the error message when you try to import? If they are inside the iPhoto Library folder then that's the reason. You must move them out of that folder to be able to import them.
What do you get in the Edit window when you try to edit an existing tiff, a white window with the spinning cog? If so Download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

  • My iPhoto can't import jpgs

I've got a folder-full of jpgs which I wanted to import into iPhoto '08. I literally was
opening this application for the first time since installing it weeks ago (I've done all
possible Tiger updates, iLife '08 software updates, firmware updates for my Mac Pro).
All these files were exported from Photoshop CS3 as plain old max. quality, 8-bit per
channel, 300 ppi, AdobeRGB-tagged jpgs. They open without problem in Preview, but
when I attempt to import them into iPhoto, I get a message that the files are unreadable
    and the import failed.
I've tried this repetitively--deleted the .plist file for iPhoto '08, rebuilt my photo library,
created a brand-new empty library and tried to import them, and it failed each time.
Interestingly enough, the tif originals that I made the jpgs from import without a problem,
and if I open a jpg in Preview and save the jpg again from Preview, this re-saved jpg can
    be imported.
What the heck is going on? I've stf'd here and haven't found a mention of a similar problem.

I retract my last post. It seems it was one of those problems that just needed a little close down, shut down, and reboot of the system. I tried several other sources of jpg files.. to no avail. This made me wonder if the problem wasnt something else, so decided to shut down and start fresh.
Not sure why this fixed it but everything is working normal now so no further responses needed. Still appreciative of this resource of info and the good natured people that put the time in to help those of us in need

  • I can't import vertical photos:why?

    i can't import vertical photos:why?

Not on the origina as it will essentially be a tif in jpeg's clothing.  But if you make an edit it will go thru a jpeg compression. Whether you'll be able to see the reduction in resolution is another matter.
I ran a test and changed a tiff file to .jpg and it was useabel in iPhoto, Acorn, Xee, GraphicConverter but not PhotoShop or Photoshop Elements.  So you can change the extension on all of those portrait photos but be sure to convert to a JPG when you export them out of iPhoto for use.  Don't know how other apps will react to such a hybred file.
One plan of action would be to import them into iPhoto and then export out as tiffs  right away. Then import back in and see if all is OK.

  • Aperture 3.1.2 is unable to import .tif(16bit) format images

I am failing to import .tif files stored in external hard dirve. The image was created by Sigma DSLR(model SD15; X3F RAW), and adjusted using Sigma-provided image adjustment program and saved as 16bit TIFF format. In Aperture 3, I see SIGMA folder itself but Aperture 3 does not show individual image files inside SIGMA folder even though I clicked the triangle arrow to open individual image files to be imported. So "import checked" button can't be clicked.

Yes! The problem has been solved. Thank you for your help!!

After the update to Lightroom 5.7, the profile of my lenses have disappeared in the camera calibration, how can I import them again because I gave you mine Extra gespeicher. I'm working on a PC.

Can we see a screenshot that includes the filename you're viewing with its extension and the camera Make list?
What is almost always the case when someone says they are missing most of their lens profiles is that their current image is not a raw file.  It doesn't matter whether you shoot raw, it matters what the current images is.  Maybe it is an exported JPG or a Edit-In-whatever result file that's a TIF or PSD or JPG.
Here are examples of the screenshot that I'm asking for:
Raw files show 24 items in the Make list:
While non-raw files have only 9 items + None in the Make list:

  • Phostoshop CS4 + FCP Integration - Importing .TIF files...

I made the upgrade to CS4 and am trying to pull in some .TIF files that I had either created, converted, or were sent to me. THe originals are coming either from Adobe Illustrator CS3 files or Adobe Photoshop CS3 files.
For whatever reason I cannot get Final Cut to accept my .TIF files. I have tried adjusting several settings and keep messing with it, but it keeps giving me the error message:
File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown
What should the correct color settings be in Potoshop in order to correctly import .TIFs? Should I keep the embedded color profiles? Any other settings that I should tweak in order to properly pull these in. Does this have anything to do with my recent switch from CS3 to CS4?
My FCP project is HDV1080p30 BTW, if that makes any difference.
    THANKS!

Could it be that the .PSD files were created in earlier versions of Photoshop?
I would have thought that a newer version can always open files created in an earlier version. Problems typically occur, trying to open files created in a newer version on older software, due to new features not being present.
If you dont have to animate individual layers, perhaps using the "Merge Visible..." (if you have transparency) or "Flatten Image" commands in Photoshop could be used.
Could it be that the new version of PS somehow handles layers differently? Perhaps your files were updated to that format when you opened them.

How can I import contacts from another AIM account to this new one??

    Hi,
Use AIM for Mac and use the Export and Import features.
Other than that it is a question on making sure every Single Buddy has more than just their Screen name in the IChat Address Card so it is added to the Address Book and dragging them back from there

  • How can I import my old Appleworks spreadsheets into Neo Office or Pages

I am a new MBP owner and have some spreadsheets in Appleworks from my old iMac. I don't have Appleworks on my new MBP. I have downloaded Neo Office and could use it to create a new spreadsheet but can't import my previously created ones. Must I retype then? Or...as an alternative, I have iWorks. Can I import them into Pages? How? Thanks for any help.

The above suggestion didn't work for me. However, I did find this site that helped me--and it might help someone else:
    http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/OpeningAppleWorksdocuments
It worked for spreadsheet--now I have to try to convert a data base document in Appleworks.

  • Upgraded to 10.6.8 and now can't import photos from Olympus camera

    1. Recently bought a new Olympus VR310 digital camera.  I couldn't get either Image Capture (6.0.1) or iPhoto (9.1.5) to import images from day one, onto my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  However, if I took the SDHC card out of the Olympus and put it into an older  Canon Ixus digital camera , and used that to upload, then both Image Capture and iPhoto worked perfectly.  So it's not the card.  Or the USB connection.  It's something special to the Olympus and the Mac.  Obviously I tried all the usual stuff about dumping plist files etc.  Nothing worked.
    2. The problem manifests itself, when the Olympus is connected,  as Image Capture being unable to show more than one, if any, thumbnails, and it is unable to import at all.  In iPhoto the problem manifests immediately it calls up the Olympus as a connected camera.  The dreaded spinning beachball of death kicks off, and the program 'stops responding'.  Even after I quit iPhoto and unmount the Olympus, iPhoto will not open without the spinning ball of death until I restart.
    3. Anyway, I tried connecting the Olympus to my son's Macbook, (System 10.6.7, Image Capture 6.0.1 and iPhoto 9.1.1) and all worked perfectly.  Hmm… so it's NOT just down to the Olympus.  It's something to do with my setup.
    4. I also have a bootable USB drive connected to the Mini, so I booted into that, so I then have my computer and my user preferences etc running under the bootable drives System 10.6.6, Image Capture 6.0.1, and iPhoto 9.1.5.  That worked perfectly with the Olympus too.  So it's not my the combination of my user settings, Image Capture 6.0.1, or iPhoto 9.15, or the  Olympus.
    5. My guess then was it was some corruption of the system on the Mac Mini.  So I reinstalled the Mac Mini system, from the install DVD, so I had a nice fresh Snow Leopard 10.6.0.  That gave me Image Capture 6.0.1 and iPhoto 9.1.5.  When I attached the Olympus, everything worked perfectly.  Great.
THEN, I updated the system from Apple's Oftware Update, all the way to 10.6.8, which is where I started from.
    6. And guess what.  Nothing works anymore. Immediately before the update, the Olympus importing worked.  Immediately afterwards it didn't.  I'm back where I was at the beginning, with exactly the same problem..  I can't import from the Olympus but the Canon is fine. (see 1 and 2 above)
So, it seems to me that the Upgrade straight to 10.6.8 is what caused the problem.  And given I could get the Olympus to work on my son's computer (system 10.6.6) it's something between 10.6.6 and 10.6.8.  Why the Canon works on all the permutations, and not the Olympus, I don't know.  I don't know why the  Olympus ONLY doesn't work with 10.6.8.
    7. Obviously there are tedious workarounds (but none that lets iPhoto capture the photos directly) which I can use to get the images into iPhoto eventually, but hey, this is an Apple Mac, who wants to be doing tedious workarounds all the time.
I've had Macs since 1984  (I'm that old…) so I'm a fan, and I'm reasonably competent, but this has me stumped.
    Any ideas, anyone.
    Any help much appreciated.

  • Not enough space on my new SSD drive to import my data from time machine backup, how can I import my latest backup minus some big files?

I just got a new 256GB SSD drive for my mac, I want to import my data from time machine backup, but its larger than 256GB since it used to be on my old optical drive. How can I import my latest backup keeping out some big files on the external drive?

    Hello Salemr,
When you restore from a Time Machine back up, you can tell it to not transfer folders like Desktop, Documents. Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures and Public. Take a look at the article below for the steps to restore from your back up.
