Can one import their iTunes library onto a 7th Generation NANO on OSX 10.6.5?

The seventh generation iPod nano requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.7 or newer to sync; both of these are free updates for computers running Mac OS X 10.6.

A friend gave me a a number of playlists in a wma format. Can't import into itunes library or convert. Any suggestions?

Switch (free basic version) - http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html  - I'm not sure if this will do WMA
    All2MP3 - http://download.cnet.com/All2MP3/3000-2140_4-190407.html - mixed success with WMA
Flip4mac - need the intermediate payware version which lets you convert.  Use with Quicktime player.Flip4Mac - http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.asp?prodid=flip4mac wmv  - The free version will let Quicktime play but not convert Windows Media files.
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences.  Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.

  • I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

First-off, this seems to be a general problem with 10.4 (across all the operating systems of which I am aware).  Unfortunately, I cannot provide a permanent solution but, if you need a quick fix, this will (hopefully) work for you.
For some inexplicable reason, iTunes no longer recognises standard Windows paths.  For example:
    Y:\Music\Buddy Holly\Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
The end result is that it will import a playlist with no content.
It will, however, recognise the equivalent Apple paths which look like this:
    file://localhost/Y:/Buddy Holly/Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
It is possible to convert your existing playlists using a few basic replace commands in something like Notepad.  In my case, I made some code changes in my music manager and now generate two sets of playslists (one standard and one to accommodate iTunes).
Forgive me foir stating the obvious but please remember to make sure that the disk / path containing your music is accessible when doing the import otherwise you will probably get a blank result.  Note that you can do a bulk import by selecting all the (revised) playlists and dragging them onto the iTunes sidebar.
I am sorry that this is not a "clean" solution but it will work if you are in a bind.  The only alternative of which I am aware is to wait for Apple to fix the problem.

  • How can I import m itunes library to a new computer

How can I import m itunes library to a new computer

Use Migration Assstant to move all content from an old computer to a new.
    For iTunes alone:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Can't import .m4p iTunes song to a diff appl

I bought my first song from iTunes, and it has a .m4p extension. I can't import it into a different application (read iPod rip-off). Songs with .wav, .wma and .mp3 can be imported. Advice?

.m4p means it has Apple DRM (copy protection) on it. You can play it in iTunes or on an iPod.
Similar to how you cannot play a .wma file in iTunes or iPod because it has Windows DRM on it.

  • I can't import from Itunes into FCP HD

    I have a powerbook G4 10.4.9 FCP HD 4.5
is this another case of the 10.4.9 and 4.5 being incompatable (the reason i can't capture from DVCPro)
If my motorcycles ran like this tuff I'd never get out of the garage! thanks for your help in advance. bRAD

It is songs purchased from iTunes that you cannot convert...and that we cannot explain how to convert. Even though YOU might use it for legal purposes, such as temp music or demo reels, we still cannot explain how to bypass DRM on Apple's own site. Doing so would violate their rules.
BUT...if you have a CD of the music, getting songs is much easier:
#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • How can i import my itune files on to another hard drive...

I need to reinstall MAC OS X onto my iMac. This is the computer which has all of my itunes files. How can I transfere the itune files onto another hard drive (via my network) and re transfere it on to my iMac once the OS reinstalled? I have bought many albums from iTunes store and would hate to loose them.
    Thanks for the Help

JLdM: Try moving the entire iTunes folder back, and if that doesn't work, reimport the music. The computer will need to be reauthorized.

  • Pulled a 450GB folder over to new MBP and can't import to iTunes now (running out of space)

I have moved to MBP and moved 450GB of music over, but can't load into iTunes now because it copies the files again and I run out of space.  How can I just migrate the existing folder over without iTunes trying to copy the files again?

When you File > Add to library, iTunes will copy the files into the iTunes media folder.
Just put the files in /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
This will move the files, not copy them.
I simply keep an alias of this folder on the desktop.

  • Can't import entire iTunes library from external hard drive

I recently had to reset my IBM ThinkPad T40 (Windows XP) to factory settings. Of course, I backuped up my iTunes library on an external hard drive, and there didn't seem to be any problems doing so. (I've had to do the same thing before) But I can't re-import the entire library now! It only imports about a thousand songs (I had about 5,000), and I get an error message saying "The file iTunes Library.itl~ cannot be imported becuase it does not appear to be a valid exported file.") I also tried to import a previous back-up (stored in a different folder, and it wouldn't import all of those files, either -- no more than in the more recent backup files) either. I've tried re-downloading the iTunes software several times. Help!!!!
    Thanks!!!
PS: Is there a way to sync my iPod to import songs from that BACK into itunes?
    IBM ThinkPad T40   Windows XP

This seems to have deleted ALL of my iTunes. The folder (and all iTunes files) is still there on my backup, but now the newly-installed iTunes won't import ANYTHING (It at least imported about 1,000 (out of 5,000) songs before. But now it says all files are invalid, regardless of where I attempt to import them from. (although the names of some playlists import -- but they're empty files) It appears that SOME of the music files are located on the backup copy, but simply won't import. Perhaps they're corrupted?

  • How can I import my itunes library to a non apple phone?

I have an Ipod, which I use.  I also have a new Iphone 4 which I cannot stand.  The battery does not last a day, and that's without listening to the music, just phone calls and texts!  This is irritating enough, but the fact that I only got it because apple don't allow you to have your music on any other device if it's not made by apple!
I want to go back to my old faithful flip phone where the battery lasts a week and be able to have access to my music.  Problem is Itunes doesn't recognise this as a device in order to import my music onto!
Is there any way to do this or do I have to carry both Ipod and phone when out?
Any advice would be greatly appriciated as this has been bothering me for years.
    Thanks *
( the phone I want to put my music onto is an Alcatel OT 810D Fold)

iTunes stopped adding DRM to music a long time ago. You can put your media on any device that will play it, you just need to use the tools supplied with the other device rather than iTunes.
My iPhone battery lasts me the day, every day, and gets charged at night. Perhaps you have apps that have stalled running in the background keeping the CPU busy, perhaps your screen is too bright and stays on for too long, or you've enabled Bluetooth when you don't need it, or it could even be that it is faulty.

  • Can i import my itunes , iphoto library to an ipad 2

I have an old G4 Powerbook 12" can i still import all my music and photos to an ipad 2 ?

    Hello
With a 1Ghz PowerPC G4 you can Upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, provided there is enough memory in your PowerBook (512 but 1GB is better)
Indeed you can buy an adapter that plugs into your iPad 2, which allowed you to  transfer your photos. I believe it takes SD cards, but you will need to check.
Your Windows laptop should be find with syncing the iPad 2 with iTunes. If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 you can download the latest version of iTunes, that will work well with your iPad2
    Best of luck.

  • I can't import my iTunes files into pages, how can i fix the privileges problem?

when i try to import any mp3 file into a pages document, i get an access privileges error saying it is either corrupt, damaged or "can't be used" because I don't have access privileges. This has happened since I moved my iTunes library to an external drive.  Anyone have any solutions?  The privileges on both the library folder, and all its files are set to read and write for sharing and permissions.

If you do not have done so, set the "Ignore Ownership" flag on the external drive. YOu can set this flag from the "File > Get Info" panel for the drive.
How is your external drive formatted?
Can other applications open these mp3 files? QuickTime? Do they play in the Finder preview?
Do the filenames contain special charcters?
