Can't import "unreadable" but Picassa ok?

Hi guys
Been using my old Sony DSC P200 for some years ago and always imported no drama's.
Tried the latest batch and they all come up "Unreadable - unrecognised file format or invalid data".
Done a search on here and from another thread have tried importing with image scanner and can read them from there. Also they Preview ok. Finally tried into Picassa and they went fine into there. Tried then importing the Picassa directory but got the same error.
Clearly the files are "ok" i.e. viewable and all EXIF info looks intact (not that that matters) so how I can get them to be understood by iPhoto 08?
May or may not be relevant but darling OH tried pulling some files down off FB which upset iPhoto as it found missing files but could never import these. I deleted them for the import directory under iPhoto (after showing package contents) ad that seems ok.
Help please I want iPhoto NOT Picassa!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Save a pdf with security so vendors can only import & print but not extract?

We submit ads to newspapers all the time in pdf format...the newspaper imports the pdfs into their page layout program (Quark) for printing...currently we do not put any security on the pdfs because the vendors can not import the pdf into their page layout program Quark with security on.

Can't import JPGs but I can open with Preview

iPhoto 4, OSX 10.3.9
I copied hundreds of JPGs (from XP) to OSX and tried to import them into iPhoto. I get an error message.
"Unreadable Files
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type of the files may not contain valid data).
If I open the image with Preview and then save it as a JPG, I can import it, however it is impractical to do this with the volume of images I have. Is this a known issue? Are there any workarounds?

iPhoto is a database and will import the pics to the iPhoto Library Folder when you add them to the library. It will not import pics from the iPhoto Library Folder as a protection against duplication. So, put the pics on the desktop, import them and trash the files from the desktop when you're finished.

I can only import SD, but not HD

I just got a new iMac for christmas with Leopard and the new iMovie, which supports AVCHD. However, when I try to import my movies into iMovie, it only gives me the option to import my SD videos. I can't even see my HD videos.
So, I was wondering how I can import my SD videos AND my HD videos, or perhaps, why I can't.

I have a similar problem....I am trying to import HD footage from my external drive into imovies HD. When I import the footage, I am unable to view it. The clip is there, but it will not display anything other than a black screen. I have a G4 Powerbook. The footage was imported into final cut pro on a G5, then copied over to my external drive for me to use on my computer. I have changed the video type to HD 1080 when creating the movie???

How can I import JPEGs but not Photoshop files from a folder?

I'm wondering if there is a way to have import filtering by file type. Specifically, I want to import a large folder structure of finished images but only the JPEG files, I don't want PSD files added to the catalog.
Is there possibly a script or Plug-in that does this?
I'm using OS X 10.9 at home and Windows 7 at work, with LR 5.5 in both cases.

This is the OP on my home profile, and that ship has already sailed. Both work and home, there are thousands of images together. I could explain why but its not important at this point, and I need it that way for my on-disk organization.
I'm looking at this omission as a huge time-waster. Why import a bunch of files that you are going to immediately turn around and delete?
At home I'm working on transitioning from Aperture, and so far I am not impressed with LR. It does some things better but has a lot of holes. My Aperture catalog is over 155,000 images.

I have a sony cx260v that allows me to record in a rate of 60 fps. However when I attempt to upload the footage taken in this frame rate to iMovie 11 9.0.4 it shows as a blocked clip and does not allow me to upload.

Yes, you can re-import them, but it's not that straightforward, and you loose some quality in the process. Search for "MPEG Streamclip" or "DVD camcorder" in this forum, and you will find lots of answers.
Alternatively, you can make data DVDs with your DV clips. Simply pop in an empty DVD, and drap the DV clips you want to export into the burn folder. A normal DVD can hold about 20 minutes of DV clips, a dual layer DVD twice as much.

How can I import photos from photo stream to windows photo gallery? These photos are not on the camera roll on my iPad but are from another iPad on the same iCloud account.

I work at a Learning Center that has 12 iPads on the same iTunes and iCloud account. Each classroom uses an iPad assigned to their room to take photos. Each of these photos then shows up in the Photo Stream in all 11 of the other iPads. I have no trouble importing photos that are in the Camera Roll of any individual iPad, but I have not been able to import photos from the Photo Stream if the picture was not taken on the specific iPad I am using. It is not feasible for me to collect all 12 iPads everyday to import everyones photos, so how can I use one "master" iPad that will let me import photos from the Photo Stream since it has all the photos that everyone has taken?

You downloaded an iCloud backup to your PC? I assume you mean you downloaded your photo stream to your PC. What you may not know is that photo stream only keeps your photos for 30 days. After that, they are deleted from photo stream but not from any device that already has them (such as your phone). When you enabled photo stream on your PC you only had access to photos from the last 30 days since the others are no longer there, even though they remain on your phone.
To transfer these to your computer at this point you have two options:
Save them to the camera roll on your phone (by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. (You can only import photos to your computer from the Camera Roll album.) Then import them to your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083; or
Use an app like PhotoSync, which can wirelessly transfer photos from any album between your devices/computers, including the my photo stream album.
In the future, always import your photos from your camera roll to your computer via USB before deleting them. Don't rely on photo stream or your iCloud backup to save your photos.

Photos that were synced from a computer won't show for copying to a computer. If you want to copy them back then you will need a third-party app on your phone such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to a device, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer (e.g. their dimensions might be different and their colours may look a bit different).

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either. It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected. VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB. All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC. Is that the same? Thank you for your time and response.

Do you mean they are on the web at iCloud.com or on your PC in an iCloud client (such as Outlook)

How can I import bookmark HTML records directly into pre-defined (but empty) Folders?

Firefox is my default browser. I am in the process of replacing an old computer with a new one. I've converted into HTML files the Bookmark content of all of the Folders appearing within the Bookmarks section of Firefox on my old computer. I then uploaded this into the cloud, and downloaded it to my new computer. I've loaded Firefox afresh on the new computer. Now . . .
Ideally, I would like to be able to import these saved/HTML bookmarks (now on my new computer) directly into the new Firefox, keeping the Folder structure maintained in saving them from the old computer; less ideally, but still acceptable, would be to simply re-create as empty Folders each Folder from the old computer's Firefox setup and then do a 'Select All' copy/paste from each of these Folders as saved in my downloaded HTML bookmarks into these initially empty Folders created in the new computer's Firefox Bookmarks section. Is either of these currently possible? In short, this is a quite distinct scenario from importing bookmarks from other browsers on the same computer.

As common as replacing one computer with another is, I find this a pretty significant oversight which will require a very time consuming conversion process if such functions are not currently available; i.e., I'll have to open each saved HTML Folder and manually activate each individual html bookmark, go to that website, and individually re-bookmark each of these one by one within the Bookmarks section of Firefox on my new computer as if I were bookmarking this site for the very first time. To start out with, Firefox hasn't used the HTML format for storing bookmarks for a few years now; you can still import and export bookmarks in HTML format, as you can with just about any other browser out there as an interchange format. Firefox 3.0+ versions use an SQLite database for storing bookmarks and browsing history in the place.sqlite file. Firefox 3.0+ versions do automatic backups of your bookmarks in the JSON format; that file includes "Tags" data but not the web site Favicon data. Restoring a backup from an old PC to the new PC is how Mozilla handles replacing an old computer - or you can "backup" the entire old Profile and transfer that data to the new PC manually. A user could also use Firefox Sync to "sync" their personal data onto the new PC. IMO, you're over-thinking this using dated information (talking about HTML files) without knowing about what options you currently have with Firefox and Mozilla.

If you have a genuine bookmarks.html file, you can '''Import''' that file thru Organize Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Import HTML... > From an HTML file.
Doing it that way you will be appending the bookmarks & folders that are in the '''Bookmarks Menu''' folder right now. The ordering of the folders and bookmarks in the "imported" file is identical, the "imported" data is added below the existing data. That said, the '''''Bookmarks Toolbar''''' folder and the '''''Unsorted Bookmarks''''' folder from the "imported" data will be in the Bookmarks Menu folder at the bottom; you'll have to move the bookmarks that are in that folder to their respective folders, above and below the Bookmarks Menu folder.

So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?

How can i import it on a new class file? Because import only loads libraries on the jdk directory and only in the format any.any.* Compile is not the problem, i set up classpath and no problem. But if i send my program to another person, it wont run because dont have the library.
And another question: can i put all the libraries in a jar file and the program read libraries IN the jar? So, how do i import it?

I would instead say you have a problem since nearly all IPs work as advertised. IF you do have a bad phone, take it into an Apple store and get a replacement. Hope you didn't jailbreak your phone though as Apple probably will tell you, you broke it, you fix it.
