Can't ingest SD video footage shot on Sony HD camcorder.

Using a Sony HD camcorder model CX500.  Shot/saved 4 minutes of SD video on HD camcorder's internal drive.  Can not ingest into FCE.  Video does not appear in log in capture window.  In one of the folders, there is just a "MPEG" file - which I believe is the SD footage.  Can not open with Quicktime or IMovie either.  What do I need for this to appear in the log capture ingest window?

You'll probably need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component (available from Apple: http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA ) and MPEG Streamclip (freeware from www.squared5.com ).  Once both are installed on your system, use MPEG Streamclip to convert the MPEG file to QuickTime DV (do NOT use DV Stream).  Import the resulting file into your FCE project.

How can I brighten a video I shot on my i-phone?

I know a lot of programs can make it such as movie maker, iMovie and other editors you can search from google.
But well known that, movie maker can't run on mac but imovie has compatible versions for both kinds of computers, windows and mac.
Well, I know a free online program can also brighten video easily, supported by both computers also. You just need to load the video, and then it will unfold advanced settings, and at the bottom of which, you can see option of "change brightness"~
I think this method is suitable to the people who need convenient solution instantly. As although movie maker and imovie are powerful, yet the process is a little complicated to the first time users

  • What's the best way to transfer footage from a Sony miniDVD camcorder?

What's the best way to transfer footage from a Sony miniDVD camcorder?

Do not use "mini" DVD's in any slot loading DVD drive.
Buy a cheap "tray loading" external DVD drive and attach it to your Mac.

  • Can anyone explain how I go from a Sony HD camcorder .m2ts file to viewing the video in HD on either DVD or Blu-Ray?

I have recently started to edit footage taken on a Sony HD Camcorder using iMove 11.
Uploading the .m2ts file was no problem straight from the camera to iMovie, but I (stupidly) assumed that I could burn an HD DVD from iMovie/iDVD to view on a DVD player. I've done a bit of internet research to find out why the quality of the DVD is so bad i.e. SD rather than HD and I think I understand it. Just.
Further searching to find out our to convert AVCHD/.m2ts to either HD DVD or Blu-ray has boiled my brain. So much stuff I read was a couple of years old so I wasn't sure what is possible.
Can anyone tell me how I get to the point where I can upload the .m2ts to the iMac, edit the footage and burn a Blu-Ray or HD DVD?
    Cheers!

Booted the Mac this morning and it now works. I tried Alchroma's solution but whether the stereo is Plain or Matrix, it works both ways. I don't think that this was the solution as a result, but thanks for the suggestion. To confirm, my Easy set up is HD / AVCHD Apple 1920 x1080i60, the only thing I can think I did differently compared to yesterday is that I shut my Mac down having changed the Easy setup. Previously, I only changed the easy setup then closed FCE4 down.

  • Can you live stream video to computer using Sony Action Cam X1000V 4K?

I'm a computer programmer and I need high quality camera and Sony Action Cam X1000V suits me the best. I would like to know can I stream live video to my computer using hdmi/usb/wifi/anything from Sony Action Cam X1000V?

    Hi PatrikWWDC,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
Yes, you can do live streaming using the FDRX1000V action cam. You can use UStream to stream your videos live online. Here is a guide on how to prepare the camera for Live Streaming.

  • How can I store my video footage in one library? Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Yeah, this is frustrating for me, too. I tried a few different variants: keeping everything in Aperture, keeping only videos in iPhoto, keeping videos in Movies folder, etc. Reason being I'd like to be able to sync some videos back to the iPhone will keeping access available for iMovie - which is tougher than it should be. Now that the iPhone does HD videos, Apple needs to either adjust iPhoto to work with videos better or work with iMovie to actually function as a movie database as well as editor.
For now, I, too, have my stuff strewn about on my Mac but I'm trying to consolidate as much as I can into iMovie events on an external drive. I have a bunch of video clips of my 2 year old and I've decided to just group them by year and then put together an edit of each to then put into iTunes so I can view them on AppleTV as well as sync to my iPhone. I figure I won't ever sit down and watch every single clip so I might as well put together the "highlights".

  • Can I move old video footage from Disk Utility to an external hard drive, to free up space?

I have a lot of old videos of my students located on Disk Utility.
I need to free up memory, so am wondering if I can move these videos to an external hard drive.
From time to time, I need to access these old videos, either to show to a new choreographer or to pull out  a clip for a grant proposal, so I don't want to totally lose access to them.
    Thanks so very much!!!

What's the file extension of the DVD in question located in Disk Utility? That's why I was asking for a screenshot. Is that .cdr? Can you do a File>Save As? If it's .cdr can you try dragging it to the external. Doesn't have to go to Disk Utility. Can just be to a folder there. As you drag it does it show with a + inside a green circle? That will mean it's copying it, but leaving the original in place. If it can be moved successfully, you can then remove the original from Disk Utility.
Or just copy (drag) it to your Desktop, then move it over to a folder on the external.

  • How to import video footage shot at 24fps

I did a shoot for a student project a couple of days ago using a Panasonic DVX100. The camera operator set the speed for 24fps, saying it would look more like film, and used anamorphic sqeeze. When I import the footage, though, the person's movement is jumpy, and the audio doesn't seem to match completely. I used DV-NTSC 32KHZ Anamorphic Basic for the capture.
Can anyone make a suggestion for the correct settings for import?

More likely the audio should be 48K, and you don't use FireWire Basic with this camera. Anamorphic is correct.

  • I am unable to capture 16:9 footage shot on Sony DSR PD170 correctly.

It appears "stepped or skipped".  The audio is in sync, but the picture looks as though a few frames are skipped.  Sort of like the old "Max Headroom" tv show.  I am using firewire cable directly from the camera to the computer.  Recorded on miniDV tape - new.
    My Capture Settings are:
    Device control: Firewire NTSC
Capture Input: DV NTSC 48 kHz  Anamorphic
    Audio/Video Settings are:
    Device Control Preset:  Firewire NTSC
Video Playback:  Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480)
    Audio Playback: Firewire DV
    I have FCP 7.0.3
    OS X 10.5.8
    Camera is Sony DSR PD170
I logged the footage without a picture or audio in FCP, used my camera's monitor.  FCP was reading the TC in the Log and Capture window, and I was able to input In and Out points to log.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Russ,
Many, many thanks for sticking with me.  I've finally got the footage to work.  Checked it by shooting new 16:9 footage and inputting it as well.   Have gone back to the original and discarded the iMovie stuff.
Believe my problem was in my settings when I changed these, everything worked:  Under System Settings.> Playback Controls  I changed RT to unlimited, Video Quality and Frame Rate to Dynamic, and Record to Full Quality, Frame offset is 4.  (I don't know what the frame offset is.)
Under User Preferences> Render Control   Render and Resolution are now 100%, Codec is same as sequence codec, Quality is Best, and I've checked always use best quality when rendering
Sorry, I don't know what the settings were before I began, just know that I changed some of them to these.  Thanks again.

  • Does iMovie support raw video footage?

I have a MacBook Pro that is about 3 years old.
I am trying to upload video footage shot in RAW to iMovie.
But I keep getting error messages or iMovie just closes.
I can upload short clips of 10-30 seconds.  But my clips of
1 -2.5 minutes fail every time.

'raw' means manufacturer-specific, less processed still-formats.
best to my knowledge, no such thing for video-codecs.
so, what do you mean with 'raw'video?

  • Correcting footage shot on auto-everything camera

    Hi,
I searched under several keywords but couldn't find any posts relating to my problems.
I have some colour video footage shot outdoors on a camera that has no manual controls whatsoever.
Can anyone recommend a filter or other FCP technique (or any other software) to help me bring up the under-exposed footage and bring down the over-exposed parts to make a more uniform final product? The fluctuations happen pretty rapidly and I have 1.5 hours of footage so something automatic would be really helpful. Also the colour shifts slightly throughout the footage (also sometimes rapidly), but not as badly as the exposure. Any sugestions for solutions to the colour issue?
    Thanks for your thoughts.
    Tim

Get out the manual and read up on the 3 way color correction filter. Pretty simple to use for basic exposure issues and color balance. Not really automatic but remember that automatic was what caused the problem in the first place.
One method of changing cc settings as the footage changes is to apply the filter to a clip and then cut the clip where the changes occur. Select each segment and correct for exposure and balance, then add cross dissolves between the segments.

  • Uploading Video Footage to Iphone?

I'm purchasing these HD camcorder glasses: http://www.lorextechnology.com/HD-Sports-Cameras-and-HD-Video-Sunglasses/wide-an gle-video-sunglasses/prod270002.p - My Mac is broke, and I don't currently have a desktop. My question is, can I upload the video footage directly to my iphone via a USB cable or an SD card connection? Furthermore, only having about 4gb of available storage on my phone, would this even be feasible? About how much storage space does 20 or 30 minutes of HD video footage take? Any workarounds you guys can think of? This is for a big job project, and if I can't figure it out, my butt is grass!
P.S. - The only reason I need the footage in my iphone is because I need to edit it via imovie & other apps I use. So, even if I can store the HD footage in the cloud somewhere and access it from phone, that would be fine. Sorry, I'm like a caveman with a lot of this stuff, lol.
    Joe

Well, I'll respond, but you may not like the answer.
There is no way to upload video to the iPhone without the use of iTunes. And, from there, you cannot edit the video. The only video that you can edit is what you have in the camera roll. I don't believe that you can upload video to edit in iMovie by any method, except to take the video with the phone. You might, and I stress might, be able to get it to something like Dropbox, but you cannot get it off the device you have without a computer. The iPhone does not support connecting a cable to it and downloading content.
I don't know if everyone would describe what you are asking as a problem, it is just something the iPhone won't support, and others realize that. Don't make the assumption that no one is thoughtful, since this is a user to user forum, and someone would need to be aware of a solution before posting something. You are going to need something to download the content of the camcorder to, and that cannot be the iPhone.

  • Cannot switch to camera mode to import video footage

    Hello,
I've been making movies by importing small video clips from my camera. Just dragging files around, no problem.
Now I need to import footage from my video camera. The camcorder is connected but iMovie doesn't switch to camera mode. Instead I can take videos of myself with the built-in iSight. When I click the camera icon, the pop-up menu shows "Built-in iSight and Time Lapse". How can I import my video footage??
I look forward to getting HELP! Thanks!

Hi Bengt and thanks for the tips.
I have a Sony video camera no: DCR-TRV25E. It is on play (VCR), not record.
I think the main pb is that I don't know the difference between FireWire and USB ;-(
I am using the same cable I use when I import photos with my digital camera (Canon) into iPhoto. As this cable fit in nicely in my video camera, I didn't even wonder about it. I shall go through my messy "unused cables" box asap!
    Thanks again!

  • Can't archive SD card shot with Sony RX10 in FCPX 10.1.0. Card from EX1r archives without issue.

I can't archive an SD card shot with Sony RX10 in FCPX 10.1.0. Card from EX1r archives without issue.  Anyone have a solution?
    Thank you.

    Hey Tom.
The RX10 shoots, after the ver. 2.00 firmware upgrade, XAVC S 50MB footage.  I can import the mp4 footage from the card via MP4Root folder and I can drag it off the card to a hard rive and import from there as well.  There was a plug-in from Sony to be able to import XAVC footage (PD2K-LT2.dmg) that I installed to get FCPX to recognize the footage.  The language in the plug-in, however, seems to only discuss XDCAM, which I was able to do with the EX1R several FCPX versions ago. That being said, import works so I'm mostly there. The archive is such a great feature, it would be nice to be able to use it for this camera.
