Can't insert disc

i feel as though this may be the stupidest question ever, but i just got a new cd which i am trying to add to itunes. the only trouble is, i can't get the cd in the drive without starting to force it, which in my judgment would not be a good idea. now i can't remember whether there was a cd in the drive or not. i don't think so, but it's been awhile since i've used the drive so i can't remember if i left a disc in there-->*part 1 of my problem*--is there any way to tell whether there's already a disc in the drive, since i can't physically look? no disc shows up on the screen or in disk utility.
before i tried to put it in i hit the eject button (which i do in habit) and it made its chugging sound, although i'm not sure if it was the normal sound or if it was a little more grinding-sounding. after that it only showed the eject icon on the screen but did nothing mechanically. i tried several "tricks" to get the drive to spit out the disc (start-up + touchpad, terminal command, sheer will.)
so my question... i don't know whether there is a disc jammed in the drive or if the drive itself is out of place... i wouldn't think the latter would be the case, i'd imagine there'd be some problems just starting and running the system... is there anything more i can do to try and solve this problem or do i have to go for a visit to the apple store??

Glad to see I'm not the only one with the problem...
My story is basically the same: tryed to rip one of my CD to iTunes but it didn't go in. I do not rememer when I used the drive for the last time, but the last import to itunes was about a month ago. I noticed, that the frame around the optical slot is depressed and moved to the side. Depression is for about a milimeter, and it is moved aside for about 2 mm. I think the optical drive is ok, becouse it makes a sound when i press the eject button.
I read some post and some people keep saying that it was compressed. I didn't compress it. I'm confused, becouse if it have been compressed it should also be evident on the top cover, where the screen is, right?
Some also suggested overheating, which is even less likely.
What should I do?
Thank you?

  • Insert Disc 1, Can't Reinstall Software

    Hello,
    Windows 7,
    Creative Suite Prodution Studio Premium, upgrade path.
    No viruses, was working fine, was just opening Audition, no software added recently. Tried restore points, no help. disabled virus protection. Many reboots. Tried everything.
    I was in the middle of an TV show edit in Premiere. Needed to do some audio correction, tried to open Audition, got invalid library, request reinstall. OK this is a time sensive project, tried to reinstall Audition from disc (legal). Inset disc 1 and go through adobe disclaimers and menu for which programs to reinstall, then I get the insert disc 1 dialog box, well it's running from disc 1. Tried everything I know how, it just keeps asking for Disc 1. Even spent 4 hourable hours with supports from India that were very rude and and quite a trial for my patience. They finally said after 3 and a half hours that Adode no longer supprots this software and I should upgrade. Well this is a custom machine that has been setup just for a single purpose. It is 32bit, can't upgrade. I purchased this software and now nothing works, not Photoshop, Nothing. I'm totally dead in the water. Please if you know a fix I'm really in a bind here. Adobe doesn't seem to care. Avid is starting to look good.

  • Can't insert a disc in my imac 11,3 inter core i7

    was burning dvds and after successfully completing one - I suddenly was unable to burn the next - I can't insert the disc - it just gets stuck halfway and the computer won't "grab" it.   I've tried rebooting, software updates, different discs etc but nothing is working.  Thanks for the help.

    Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

  • I can't get a newly inserted disc to show on the desktop

    Why can't I get a newly inserted disc to show on the desktop?

    Click either the Dock Finder or anywhere on your Desktop, so that Finder is displaying on your menu bar and then select Finder Preferences.
    Then in the General tab of pop up Finder Preferences window, make sure that the box for CDs, DVDs and iPods is checked.

  • Can't burn disc with OS X Mavericks from finder

    When attempting to burn a collection of files from a burn folder to a writeable CD, the drive loads the CD when inserted, the CD image appears over the burn folder image normally, but nothing further happens.  When attempting to eject the CD using the eject button or right-click and choosing eject, I get a message stating "You can't burn a disc using "Disc Name" because it's locked."  I can unlock the disc by using Get Info and unchecking the box for "locked".  However, this only allows me to eject the disc, I am still unable to burn the disc.  The symptom occurs with different discs so the problem is not related to the medi
    However, iTunes writes CD's normally.  It appears that only writing CD's from the finder does not work, so it is not the CD drive.

    Not sure this is related, however, after Facebook went down for about 20 min, soon after so did my Gmail (6) , 1 iCloud account(s). It's been hit and miss on downloading my email, however if I went to the websites I finally was able to get email. I then tried to see if my settings were correct and it appears all my passwords looked shorter than they really are. I reenter that information and voila, it's working again. Not a clue why those issues would have triggered my settings, however I know others have been complaining as well.

  • Can Imovie Insert Clips During Import?

    I would like to convert some video from my VHSC Tapes.
    Before you stop reading.... I've done this before using my VCR, Camcorder set to A/D convert and a firewire!
    What I would like to know is:
    When I import the video it is imported as one giant clip unless I stop the import and re-start OR manually insert the clips.
    What would be nice is if imovie would automatically insert a clip every x minutes.
    Is that possible?
    Thanks for your help!
    Steve.

    The footage is imported as "..one giant clip.." because there is no digitally-encoded time-&-date info to go with the clip.
    A digital camcorder (DV or Digital-8) 'time-stamps' each sequence ..as long as the clock in the camcorder has been set! iMovie reads this digital info, and thereby splits the footage into individual clips.
    Footage imported from non-digital tapes, such as VHS-C or Video-8, doesn't have this digitally-encoded time-code, so iMovie can't read it, so it imports everything as one single clip.
    There is no way to tell iMovie, presently, to split the footage at specified intervals (see Matti's reply), like, say, Philips DVD recorders (..or Mini-Disc audio recorders..) can automatically insert a position marker every 5 mins.
    The one long clip cannot be automatically split every x minutes ..unless Karl thinks of a way to do it with AppleScript or Automator!

  • Lightscribe for Osx 10.7.5 Matshita DVD-R UJ-8A8, how can I label discs?

    My CD/DVD drive has trouble playing dvd's with labels. The Apple store said this is a common problem with post-applied labels. I need to publish my own cd/dvd's with a design. Lightscribe is one option. Can I lightscribe discs on my machine or do I need to purchase an external unit? If an external machine is required, which ones are compatible?
    Thanks and happy new year.

    I wouldn't even use Lightscribe.  Safer is to use jewelcase inserts and jewelcases.

  • Trouble Installing (Insert Disc 2)

    Hi, i recently downloaded the trial of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Elements (from Adobe's website), I want to see what this program is like before purchasing. The files extracted with no problems, but once near the end of the install i get a prompt telling me to insert disc 2, now because this is the downloaded trial, there is no disc to. I am running Windows XP Media Edition (SP2)and am out of ideas. I have tried ruffly 3 times, re-downloading every time, and still I still get the same message. What am i doing wrong here?

    Have seen this posted as a problem within the last month. Try searching this forum or look back 2-3 pages for similar topic. Sorry can't remember the solution.

  • Please Insert Disc....Burning Disc Initializing (Repeated)

    Hi,
    I've the newest version of iTunes on my laptop which is a Vista...Im trying to back up iTunes with data discs. It said I required 9, the first one burnt fine. On the second disc, iTunes kept repeating "Please Insert Disc" then "Burning Disc Initializing".
    Can anyone help as this is very frustrating
    Thanks

    Nowadays people don't back up to CD/DVD. They get an *external hard drive* and copy over their entire iTunes folder, and whatever else they are backing up.
    The advantages are (1) this method does not depend on iTunes's horribly unreliable burning capability (2) you can look at the external and see that the stuff you backed up is really there. (If you want to see an unhappy person, it is when they try to restore from CD/DVD and discover that it did not burn correctly in the first place.) (3) it lets you back up your other valuable files besides your music.

  • Help!!urgent!!can not insert/update clob:the row containing the lob is not locked

    Hi,
    could you do me help?
    i can not insert a string into a oracle clob field, it echo as:
    ORA22920 row containing the lob value is not locked. ORA 06512 at "SYS.DBMS_LOB" line 708
    ORA 06512 at line 1;
    what its means? please.
    my table defined as : create table clob1(id number(5),mclob clob default empty_clob()); the id is create by a sequece of test_sequence automaticly.
    my code as belows:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    //import oracle.sql.*;
    public class test4 {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    String url_String
    = "jdbc:oracle:thin:test/test@myhost:1521:myorcl";
    try {
    Class.forName
    ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    java.sql.Connection con =
    java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(url_String);
    con.setAutoCommit(true);
    Statement stmt
    =con.createStatement();
    String sqlStr ="insert into
    clob1 (mclob) " + "values(empty_clob())";
    stmt.executeUpdate(sqlStr);
    String query = "select
    test_seq.CURRVAL from dual";
    ResultSet rs =stmt.executeQuery
    (query);
    rs.next();
    int currval =rs.getInt(1);
    query = "select * from clob1 where
    id="+currval;
    String str
    ="abcedefhijklmnopqrstuvwxyz";
    rs =stmt.executeQuery(query);
    rs.next();
    java.sql.Clob clob1
    =rs.getClob(2);
    oracle.sql.CLOB clob=
    (oracle.sql.CLOB)clob1;
    System.out.print(clob);
    java.io.Writer
    wr=clob.getCharacterOutputStream();
    wr.write(str);
    wr.flush();
    wr.close();
    stmt.close();
    con.close();
    } catch(Exception ex) {
    System.err.println("SQLException: "
    + ex.getMessage());
    null

    Hi,
    To avoid ORA-22920 error while selecting lob column, use the 'for update' clause in the select statement like :
    query = "select * from clob1 where id="+currval+" FOR UPDATE" ;
    This should solve the problem. However, after fixing this, you might get the error :
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-1002: fetch out of sequence
    I got this error when testing your code. To avoid this error, before executing 'select ... for update' statement Set AutoCommit to OFF, like :
    query = "select * from clob1 where id="+currval+" FOR UPDATE" ;
    con.setAutoCommit(false);
    rs =stmt.executeQuery(query);
    Hope that Helps,
    Srinivas

  • How can I insert values from table object into a regular table

    I have a table named "ITEM", an object "T_ITEM_OBJ", a table object "ITEM_TBL" and a stored procedure as below.
    CREATE TABLE ITEM
    ITEMID VARCHAR2(10) NOT NULL,
    PRODUCTID VARCHAR2(10) NOT NULL,
    LISTPRICE NUMBER(10,2),
    UNITCOST NUMBER(10,2),
    SUPPLIER INTEGER,
    STATUS VARCHAR2(2),
    ATTR1 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR2 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR3 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR4 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR5 VARCHAR2(80)
    TYPE T_ITEM_OBJ AS OBJECT
    ITEMID VARCHAR2(10),
    PRODUCTID VARCHAR2(10),
    LISTPRICE NUMBER(10,2),
    UNITCOST NUMBER(10,2),
    SUPPLIER INTEGER,
    STATUS VARCHAR2(2),
    ATTR1 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR2 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR3 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR4 VARCHAR2(80),
    ATTR5 VARCHAR2(80)
    TYPE ITEM_TBL AS TABLE OF T_ITEM_OBJ;
    PROCEDURE InsertItemByObj(p_item_tbl IN ITEM_TBL, p_Count OUT PLS_INTEGER);
    When I pass values from my java code through JDBC to this store procedure, how can I insert values from the "p_item_tbl" table object into ITEM table?
    In the stored procedure, I wrote the code as below but it doesn't work at all even I can see values if I use something like p_item_tbl(1).itemid. How can I fix the problem?
    INSERT INTO ITEM
    ITEMID,
    PRODUCTID,
    LISTPRICE,
    UNITCOST,
    STATUS,
    SUPPLIER,
    ATTR1
    ) SELECT ITEMID, PRODUCTID, LISTPRICE,
    UNITCOST, STATUS, SUPPLIER, ATTR1
    FROM TABLE( CAST(p_item_tbl AS ITEM_TBL) ) it
    WHERE it.ITEMID != NULL;
    COMMIT;
    Also, how can I count the number of objects in the table object p_item_tbl? and how can I use whole-loop or for-loop to retrieve values from the table object?
    Thanks.

    Sigh. I answered this in your other How can I convert table object into table record format?.
