Can't install add-ons on IE11

Hi,
I tried to install an add-on from my Chinese bank's website (Shanghai Pudong Development Bank) and after I get the black-ish screen prompting for authorization the website starts loading and then just hangs. I had the exact same problem trying to install
an add-on from the online malware scanner eset (.eu), the pop-up with the scanner just hangs after I'm asked for authorization.
I tried disabling my antivirus, disabling Malwarebytes, un- and reinstalling IE11 (turning it off/on) and nothing.
In China it is not rare to see people using Windows XP, so I don't see them updating anything soon.
I could really use some help here! Thank you all in advance.

Hi,
Could you please share a screenshot or guide to find and install this add-on on this site with us (I haven't used the Shanghai Pudong Development Banke), so we can know whether this is a common issue or specific issue. or you can try this add-on in another
IE 11 (if you have) to test this issue.
If this is not a common issue, then it might be caused by other add-ons installed in your IE 11, as a test, I suggest you disable all other add-ons, then test this issue. Tools\Manage add-ons, or launch IE by running
iexplore.exe -extoff
keep Windows up-to-date, especially for IE.
Meanwhile, you can clear the SSL state under Internet Options\Content, clear the browser history, cookies, ect, or reset IE, check if issue persists.

• I can't install add-ons, install just keeps running, when I close the browser, I'm asked if I want to cancel download.

re-install because of earlier problems, most current version. Usual plugins, all up to date.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete possible addons.json and addons.sqlite files.
You can reset all prefs to have a fresh start and delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

• Can't install add-ons or remove old ones

Hello,
I've done a fair few re-installs on my OSX and I'm now running 10.9.5 with Firefox 33, however every time I reinstalled, I copied over my profiles folder to have the saved passwords, history and add-ons already setup.
Recently something strange has been going on, I can't install an add-on, it installs but even after a restart it says it will be isntalled after restart.
I can't delete one, same thing as above, so I had to delete majority of them manually.
Every time I load firefox, it checks for add on compatability, which it didn't do before.
Is this some sort of a permissions issue or? I'd do a fresh install however I need to retrieve my passwords and browsing history first, and only way I know how to do that is with a plugin.
Any help would be appreciated!

• Can't install Add Ons

When trying to install a new Add On I get message "You need Firefox to install add-ons. " and Add to Firefox button blanked out. Frustrating, as it is already installed of course to get to the page in the first place!

Thanks for your suggestion. Followed the link but the problem remains with all Add Ons as per my original post.

• I can't install add-ons in Firefox 5.0.1 on Mac OS 10.6.7

In Firefox 5.0.1 on Mac OS 10.6.7, I cannot install any add-ons.
My old add-ons that worked in Forefox 4 stopped working and
seem to have disappeared. When tryinf to install an add-on, I get the following message: "There was an error downloading X, try again" (X is the name of the add-on). When adding an add-on from the Mozilla site, I get the message: "Firefox cannot modify the needed file".

My current version of Chrome is having problems, too! It's so annoying. Anyone have any suggestions now? I basically can't view or download any PDFs because of this.
Does anyone else think this is a problem not only with Adobe? I would think Apple would have something to do with this? Wouldn't they get some idea from the developer versions that no browser can open PDFs while running Lion!? Pretty bad customer service on the part of a company that prides itself on being VERY customer-friendly. Wouldn't you say?

• Pages not loading properly and can't install add ons

After installing the Firefox 29 on Windows 7, the mozilla's site and add-ons page do not load properly. Some problem as shown in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/992362 and tried all the steps but still doesn't work.

I've got exactly the same problem on both v 29 and 30. The thing is, my desktop computer is fine, my BRAND NEW laptop, stripped of ALL it's HP crapware and just using MSE, can display ANY webpage ok EXCEPT anything to do with Mozilla Firefox add-ons, AND the browser can't install any add-ons. I've tried all the usual banal "fixes", including switching off hardware acceleration, but all I get is plain-text for the pages as per sample, and no install of add-ons themselves. Again, note that this is ONLY a problem on the laptop, not on my desktop. They are both plugged into the same router (both through LAN / ethernet), and so therefore they should both work properly. I don't want to hear any stupid suggestions about formatting and re-loading. Just damn-well fix it, please! I've already wasted more than an hour of my very valuable time on this ridiculous problem. And yes, I've even uninstalled Flash 14 just in case (even though Flash 14 is on my desktop and not causing any problems - yet).

• Can't install add-ons on my Macbook because firefox "cannot modify the needed file" !!

I am not sure how to use terminal and commands in the same. Help with the same would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,
I'm having the exact same issue, except I'm on OSX 10.8.2 and FF 16.0.1.
I can't install any extensions. If I try via Tools -> Add Ons, I get the error "There was an error installing <extension-name>". If I try via the addons.mozilla.org site I get the "can't modify file" error msg.
I have changed extensions.alwaysUnpack to TRUE, but there is no change.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How can I install add-ons with CC Packager and an Enterprise licence?

I'd like to install  Adobe Color CC Panel (kuler). I dont seem to have access to add-ons via Cloud Packager. The end-users can't install anything. Can I somehow have access to the installation files?

Instead of left clicking you can right-click the Download button and use "Save Link as" to save the file to your computer.

• After I installed 4.0.1 I can't install add-ons. I have tried to reinstall firefox but it wont help. What is the problem?

My computer:
'Mac OS X'
Version 10.5.8
Processor: 2,53 GHz Intel Core Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
When I try to install an add-on, the installation bar won't move, and I can't remove/delete the progress too.

Yep, Firefox see's that website as being a forgery. Chrome and Firefox use the same database for phishing and web forgeries - they jointly developed that system.

• Can't install add-ons because cannot modify the needed file

This happening on a Mac with Firefox 4. I tried many plugins and had the same problem trying to install everyone. I was able to download personas with no problem. My Mac is up to date with all the latest software. Using 4.0.1 Firefox which appears to be up to date. With the previous version of Firefox I had no problem downloading plugins.

Simply create a *NEW* profile with Profile Manager for Firefox using this flag

• Can't update add-ons, install toolbars or new add-ons, get desktop shortcut icons to work, delete desktop shortcut icons, or uninstall Firefox! Help!

I have Firefox 3.6.3 running on a Toshiba Satellit laptop with Windows XP. I can't update add-ons, install google and yahoo toolbars, get any of the 3 desktop shortcuts to work or delete them, nor uninstall Firefox to try and start over. What a piece of crap! How can I wake up from this nightmare?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See #Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

• Firefox 6 can't open add-ons manager to uninstall yahoo toobar which installed by itself.

Yahoo toobar installed itself on my computer and I can't open Add-ons manager to uninstall it. Add-ons manager window just keeps trying to load but won't load.

• An unknown website just appeared in my 'exceptions' list (Tools Options Security "warn me when sites try to install add-ons"-how could this happen?

downloaded Firefox onto friends' laptop last night. Found it necessary to place two websites in the (afore-mentioned) "Exceptions" category. shut down/re-booted three-four times over the next few hours before shutting down the laptop and going to bed. Booted up this am and, WHOA!-suddenly my menu/toolbars have new, undesired toolbars(?) search boxes(?): the search box, if I remember right, was labeled "My Web Search sponsored by iwon!" Whilst eliminating the intruders I became aware that by some unknown means I had fetched up on some webpage I've never heard of and had no reason to go to-( the very top of my display (above the menu and address bar) read: 'reason upgrade Search' (separated by a line symbol I can't reproduce here), then 'Musician's Friend' ....HUH? (feeling like Dorothy w/o a tornado transport). So I finish getting rid of the invaders and check out my History to try to figure out how I wound up at this website. my history indicates the last site I visited before going to bed, then 'aclk' (www.google/aclk? followed by a string of mixed symbols letters etc. Then 'redirect' (www.rkdms.com/redirect?c=....and a string of numbers and letters. Then the website"reason upgrade Search (?) Musician's Friend " then 'redirect.jhtml' (www.search.mywebsearch.com/mywe.........) Them 'Firefox Web Browser& Thunder....' still no clue how or why I wound up at that site..didn't go there, (not of my volition, anyways!!) so im checking my security settings and in Tools>options>Security>advanced> in the "Exceptions" category of "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons" is a website I've never heard of (getpersonas.com) and DID NOT enter!!!!!!!.Need to know how this could happen, how to prevent recurrence and how hard should I hit the panic button because right now I'm totally freaked!
== today

These prefs get set to an empty String once the sites have been added to the whitelist if the pref is not empty if you open the exception window.
Tools > Options > Security : "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons": Exceptions
You can reset these prefs on the about:config page.
xpinstall.whitelist.add - addons.mozilla.org
xpinstall.whitelist.add.36 - getpersonas.com
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

• I followed your help directions on "Corrupt extension files" under "Unable to install add-ons", foolishly deleting the files you told me to. Now firefox won't open. I tried reinstalling firefox but it still won't open. Now what do I do?

I was trying to install the SEOQuake add on. After clicking install Firefox would hang up saying the script had timed out and asking if I want to stop it or continue. Didn't matter which option I chose nothing would happen. The only way to stop it was to close Firefox and restart. Tried restarting the computer. Still wouldn't install. Tried installing the Outwit add on and got the same error leading me to conclude it was a problem with Firefox, not the add on. I found this help page <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons?s=addons+won't+install&as=s> and did everything it told me to. Finally at the end I got to "Corrupt extension files". I foolishly deleted the files you told me to and now Firefox won't even start! I tried reinstalling Firefox and it still won't start. Tried restarting the computer. I have no idea how to get back to where I was let alone install the add ons I wanted to install. Please help. At this point I'd just be happy to be able to get Firefox working.

See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br />
