Can't install AirPort Express Assistant because I already have Utilities

Just having some annoying trouble here.
I have a MacBook Pro that came installed with AirPort Utilities, and it has the latest version.
I bought an AirPort Express so I could stream music to my speakers with AirTunes. I'm not hooking an ethernet cable to the airport, because my wireless already works fine in my house.
I need to install AirPort Express Assistant in order to set up the network between the express and my computer, but I can't even use the CD it came with because once I get to the part to select where I want to save it, it says "this computer already has a more recent version of AirPort on it etc..." However, I only have Utilities, not the assistant.
With the Express plugged in, I go to Utilities and it doesn't pick anything up, which makes sense. So basically, what can I do?
I tried deleting Utilities off my computer so I could just install the whole CD but even that did nothing.
Thanks.

Your version of Snow Leopard already had the latest version of AirPort Utility 5.5.1, which is the version that you should use to configure the AirPort Express.
The disk which came with the AirPort Express was produced some time ago and the version of AirPort Utility on the disk is out of date.
Not sure what you mean by Assistant. There is a guided setup process in AirPort Utility that is initiated when you click the Continue button. That may be what you are thinking of.
You made a mistake by deleting AirPort Utility 5.5.1 from your computer. You should download AirPort Utility 5.5.1 and install it so that you can configure your AirPort Express.

    How can i install Airport Express A 1264 on os x 10.9.2

    Hello chawich
All you should need is Airport Utility that is located in the Utilities folder that sits in the Application folder. If you have an iOS device, you can also set it up with that device with Airport Utility or in Wi-Fi section in Settings.
AirPort Utility software and firmware downloads

  • Can I install IMovie HD 6 if I already have IMovie 11 on my computer?

Can I install IMovie HD 6 if I already have IMovie 11 on my computer?

Happily this is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.
Another method is to copy the iMovie HD app from an older G4 or G5 Mac application folder and put it directly into the application folder on the Lion/Mountain Lion Mac, in a new folder you create there, calling it iMovie Previous Version.

  • Re-installing Airport Express Assistant.

    Hi all,
I've got an Airport wireless network with one Airport Express used to extend the range. Everything is working fine. However, due to a repair to my PowerBook my hard drive was wiped and I reinstalled the Airport Admin utility instead of the Express Assistant.
I've now got another Express and want to set it up in the extension so I can stream music to my Hi-Fi. So I thought I'd install the Express Assistant from the CD again (the CD is called Airport Express / iTunes CD version 4).
The trouble is the installer won't let me reinstall again as I've used software update to upgrade the Airport componants and they are of a later version than those on the CD. But I want the Express Assistant!!!
I've removed all the Airport related icons but the install still thinks it's there. What other files must I remove to get the thing to install?
    Cheers
    Stuart

You cannot have "reinstalled the Airport Admin utility instead of the Express Assistant" - both get installed at the same time. You must have inadvertently deleted the application.
What MacOS version is running on this Mac?

  • Can't install AirPort Express Software

    Help!
Trying to install AirPort Express Software in my computer. It's an iMac 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4. It was installed with OS X 10.3 with updates through 10.3.9. I recently installed Leopard 10.5 and it is now updated to version 10.5.1. But, when I try to install the software for my new AirPort Express, it says "you cannot install AirPort on this volume. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported." Huh? AirPort express says it can be used by computers working on OS X 10.4 or later. What might be my problem? THANKS!
    Terry

    Duane,
Thank you for your speedy response!!!!
When I open the AirPort Utility.app, a window opens called AirPort Utility, the twirly/stopwatch icon goes into motion next to the words"Discovering Base Stations." After this happens for some seconds, these words appear...
"AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort base stations. Please make sure the AirPort base station you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
My express is plugged in five feet from my computer. What to do....?
    Many thanks!

  • Can't install AirPort Express, and unit is flashing amber

    Hi,
I've just bought an Airport Express unit, with the aim of playing iTunes remotely (I have a separate wireless connection to the net). I have two problems:
    1) When I try to install the Airport Express software provided, the setup tells me that I have a later version of iTunes and cannot install Airport Express. Does that mean iTunes v7.0 (which I am using) already contains Airport Express?
2)My Airport Express unit is flashing amber. Resetting the unit makes no difference. I suspect this is due to the problem of 1) but am really stuck on how to progress!
    many thanks in advance!
    Mike

  • Can't install airport express

Have a new intel imac running OS X 10.5.2. I've established a wireless network using built-in wireless cards to my powerbook G4 running OS x 10.3.9. This network runs fine, but I'm trying to extend the range of the network using an airport express to make a wireless distribution system (WDS). When I plug the airport express in it flashes amber as expected, but when I run the airport utility on the iMac the airport express is not found. What's wrong?

If I follow correctly - you are using your iMac to create a wireless network? In other words, you are not using an Airport Base Station but instead you are using your iMac to do this job, correct?
If so, you cannot create a WDS. Main and remote base stations in a WDS must be Airport Extreme Base Stations (any model) or Airport Express devices. You cannot use a Mac as one of the base stations.

  • Installing Airport Express

I can't install Airport Express on my Mac. It says "you cannot install Airport on this volume. The Version of Mac OSX on this volume is not supported" The Airport disc says 10.4 or higher is required and I'm running 10.5.6.

Mac OS X 10.5.6 includes the software for it. You don't need to and shouldn't install anything.

  • Can I install LR4 on MAC after I already installed it on 2 different PCs?

I have installed LR4 on my laptop and desktop, both PCs. If I purchase a MAC in the near future can I install the version of LR4 I already have on it without purchasing another license?  If not, do I have to physically purchase another copy of LR4 since I would have used up my 2 allotted uses? Or is there a way to purchase an additional license online without buying another physical copy? And if bought online, would the additional license(s) be the same amount?

If you need to run Lightroom on all 3 computers on a continuous basis then you'll need another license.
    1 license = 2 activations (2 x PC)
2 licenses = 4 activations (2 x PC plus 1 x Mac and one free activation for use on another computer)
Same price for each extra license.

  • I have installed airport express and it lights steady green. But when I use the airport tool, nothing can be found.

I have installed airport express on my Window 7 and had problem to find the airport express.
I solved the problem by turning off my AVG firewall and  the airport tool found the airport express and it went steady green.
I then turned on the AVG firewall again and it continues ok.
But when I turn off and restarted my laptop I have to follow the same procedure.
The AVG firewall is set to All Allowed for the airport express.
Is there anybody out there that can give assistance to solve this problem?

    Hi,
I solved the problem myself by updating the Wi-fi driver.
    Now it works perfect.

  • Can't get AirPort Express Setup Assistant to Work

I'm having trouble just setting up AirPort Express. (All I want to do is play iTunes from a stereo system in another room.) I purchased an "AirMac Express base station" in Tokyo a few days ago, took it out of the box, and followed the instructions as far as connecting audio jacks and plugging the base station into an electric outlet. (My iMac is also a Japanese machine, and I'm using it in Tokyo.
The next step was supposed to be opening AirPort Setup Assistant and obeying it. But the SA wasn't in Apps>Utilities, where the instruction manual said it would be, so I used the CD that came with the base station to install SA.
I did manage to open it and get as far as the first step, but then I got this message:
"In order to use the AirPort Setup Assistant your AirPort card must be enabled and AirPort needs to be turned on and set to use DHCP. Click OK if you would like to change these settings, or Skip if you would like to configure AirPort Base Stations using ethernet."
(An AirPort card was factory-installed, and AirPort is turned on.) So I clicked on "OK." Then I get this message and SA vanishes:
There was an error communicating with your AirPort card. Please make sure it is installed properly and try the AirPort Setup Assistant again.
I have looked in support as best I can and also tried some googling, but I still have idea what to do. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks!

I finally found the answer to my question in Joe Kissell's Taking Control of Upgrading to Leopard. For anyone who may need to know, the AirPort Setup Assistant is no longer used to set up base stations. That task has now been delegated to Airport Utility. Duh.
But why couldn't Apple manage to put this information in a place where people who bought a base station could find it??

  • HT1515 Just installed Airport Express on Mac 10.6.8  Can't see base station.  Hard Reset the Airport.  Rebooted machine.  How can I tell if this is a Mac problem or Airport Express Problem?

I have a Mac 10.6.8.  Just installed Airport Express.  I can't see any base stations.  I did a hard reset on the Airport Express, turned off all devices,  turned them back on.   I see plenty of Airport networks in the neighborhood.  How can I tell if I have a Mac problem or an Airport Express problem?  Airport Express blinks Amber.

Obviously,  I'm still using ethernet to be able to reply to this.
Alright, use the same ethernet cable to plug directly into the airport express. This will FORCE the airport utility to now see it regardless of weak signals & interference. You can set it up that way.
BTW, what is the original intent on the express?

  • Can't install Windows 8.1 because the Bootcamp Assistant-partitioned disk is GBT and not MBR.

I can’t install Windows 8.1 because the Bootcamp Assistant-partitioned disk is GBT and not MBR, and attempting to format the bootcamp disk does nothing. I have read up on this issue, and the only solution seems to be to make a backup of my computer and reformat all disks via 8.1 setup terminal. I REALLY do not want to do that, is there any way to fix this? I’m on OS X Yosemite, if that pertains to the thread.

Interesting. It wouldn’t install because I had FileVault enabled. Huh. Disabling it saved the day.

  • Installing a d2 quadra but can't use the setup assistant because PowerPC Applications are no longer supported. Help...

I'm tring to install a d2 quadra external drive but can't use the setup assistant because "PowerPC Applications are no longer supported". Anyone have any ideas?

You shouldn't need to install anything just to use the drive. Just connect it to your Mac and it should mount. If it's the Intego Backup Assistant you're trying to install, try the latest version which you can download here:

I can not install the Express after the Extreme tha AirPort tool is of no help. It does not display any base station.

What is the exact model of the AirPort Express that you are trying to install? Which version of the AirPort Utility are you using? What is the operating system and version, and on what device, are you running the AirPort Utility on?
