Can't install anything downloaded from Web

I have a 17-inch MacBook Pro running 10.7.5.
I've noticed recently that I can't install anything that is downloaded over the Internet. Flash and Microsoft Office are two of the recent upgrades that won't run. There have been others.
I'll download the upgrade/update and the automatic process will begin. After I enter my username and password, I'll point to the correct disk image (Macintosh HD) and click the Install button. I'll then be taken back to the step where I point to the correct disk image.
I have a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7 and have no trouble running upgrades/updates.
Any ideas? Thanks.

This got worse before it got better. Eventually I couldn't log into my account. I reinstalled Lion and the restored from a Time Machine backup. And I still couldn't log in.
I then did one more password change and finally got into my account. But I could not access Keychain, and I really think that somehow my Keychain password somehow got changed from what my account password was.
I started a new Keychain and all is working now. Of course, I lost all my saved passwords but I have most saved.
Thanks.

Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi, shoaib.
You wrote: "also in disk utility i get this
"invalid file or directory ID found"
"the volume HD needs to be repaired"
"Error: the underlying task reported failure onn exit""The disk directory of your hard drive is corrupted. This is the source of your problems.
If you cannot afford either of the third-party utilities:
    • Alsoft Disk Warrior 3.x (DW3)
    • Micromat TechTool Pro version 4.1.x (TTP4).
then you will need to follow the instructions in "Disk Utility reports 'Underlying task reported failure' when repairing a volume."
Specifically, given that your attempt to repair the disk using Disk Utility from your Tiger DVD failed, there are no other solutions available for this problem other than:
    • Attempting repair with the third-party disk utilities cited above.
    • Backing up whatever data can be saved, then reinstalling Mac OS X with an Erase and Install.
See the article I cited above for details. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
To avoid having to reinstall in situations like this, as funds permit you should consider investing in:
    • Implementing a comprehensive backup and recovery solution. For advice on the backup and recovery solution I employ, see my "Backup and Recovery" FAQ.
    • Alsoft DiskWarrior and TechTool Pro.
    Good luck!

  • I can't install Flash Builder from the Web Premium suite, what should I do?

I just downloaded the Adobe Creative suite 5.5 Web Premium and am about to install the program but notice a note next to the Adobe Flash Builder program... it explains that my system doesn't have the requirements needed for this program. I checked and it explains further details stating that I need to have a • Mac OS X v10.5.6–10.6 and I doubled check which version I have and it's OS X 10.5.8. Doesn't this actually mean that it does meet the requirements?
Please advise as to what can be done to be able to download this specific program.

We do still need more information such as how much memory you have,
resolution of your monitor, how much disk space you have free, which
processor are you using.  I good guide is to look at the system
requirements and try to post for each of the items within the
requirements.  The system requirements for Web Premium can be found
    at http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/web/tech-
    specs.edu.html.

Also you can find this information within your System Profiler.  The
easiest way to access the system profiler is to go to the Apple Menu
and select About this Mac.  Once selected clicking on the more info
button will launch the System Profiler.

  • Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player.  Does anyone know how to get around this?

Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player.  Does anyone know how to get around this? I don't know how to wipe the hard drive, and the support online doesn't seem to work.

    As posted previously:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
If installing Leopard the process is similar in some respects.  If you wish to begin anew then after selecting the target disk click on the Options button and select the Erase and Install option then click on the OK button.  To install over an existing system do the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • I can't install anything on MacBook Pro - can anyone help?

    Dear All,
I can't install anything on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8). For example, I'll download an update, which in turn opens an installer window. I select the destination for the installation. So far so good. But when I click on 'install', nothing... Absolutely nothing happens.
I've been into disk utility to fix the permissions - there seemed to be quite a lot to fix. Then I repaired them. But running another check on disk permissions throws up the same errors, even though the first time round they were apparently fixed.
I've had a look in some of the the forums; one option seems to be to reboot from the installation DVD. Unfortunately, as I'm out of the country at the moment, the disk, along with most of my worldly possessions, is in storage hundreds of miles away and completely inaccessible.
Can anybody help a) with working out what the problem might be and b) with suggestions as to what on earth I can do to fix it?
Thanks so much to you all for your help,
    h

You need to upgrade to the next OS 10.6 Snow Leopard by purchasing the DVD online.

I can't install any  apps from the AppStore on my MacBook, why?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Are you running any anti-viral software or a firewall? Little Snitch?

If you installed Leopard that is why you can't install Mt Lion. The system Must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion or Mt Lion.
If you only erased the Macintosh HD partition then you left the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition in tact on that system. At startup hold down the Command+r keys to boot to the Recovery HD Partition. From there erase the Macintosh HD partition and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. It should then download Mt Lion and ask you for the Apple ID that was used to purchase Mt Lion.
The Reason Snow Leopard might not be installing is because of the Recovery HD partition. To get rid of that you must First Re-Partition the drive As One Partition. Then install Leopard then SL (Or Snow Leopard from the start) and then update it to 10.6.8. Once that is done you should be able to log on to the Mac App Store and Re-Download Mt Lion.

  • 10.6.3: Can't install anything?!

Hi - still getting used to my Mac which I recently inherited. Using the original disks I have erased the disk and reintalled Mac OS X 10.5.8. Installed 10.2.2 iTunes, no problem. Tried to join the Apple Dev program, said I needed to upgrade the OS. Nipped off to Apple, purchased upgrade to 10.6.3, made sure I had the latest updates then installed the upgrade - no problem. But then couldn't install anything else.
Again I took the drive back to nothing, built it back up, making sure I got the latest updates before upgrading to 10.6.3. Same problem. I've even tried installing the recommended combo update to 10.6.7. It fails.

I have run disk verify - all OK, have read/write permissions and have repaired permissions. The only issue I might have: following the POST chime I very occassionally get three repeating beeps which I understand could be a memory related issue??? Could there then be an underlying hardware issue that is affecting the software side of things? Everything that I have installed seems to work OK, I just can't install anything new.
    Any ideas? Advice greatly appreciated.

  • Problems Installing App Downloaded from iTunes Store; Error Code 0xE800000C.

I am unable to install a new app downloaded from the iTunes Store.  I can connect with and download from iTunes with no problems.  But when I go to install the new app, the installation first appears to proceed okay, but after several minutes a message shows up saying that the app was not installed, and giving this error code: 0xE800000C.  During the installation, the progress bar pauses for quite a while at about one-fourth of the way across, then suddenly goes all the way across, and after that is when the message shows up.  I also tried installing another app, an earlier version of the first one, with the same result.  I have tried rebooting the phone and disabling my computer antivirus.  I have been able to install apps to this phone in the past using this same computer.  My iPhone has the latest software and I have the latest version of iTunes.
Any ideas how I can resolve this problem?
    Thanks.
    Geoff

I actually found the answer to my problem. After posting this question I still proceeded to trying to find the answer through internet searches and noticed that my specific Fault Module Name was Quickset.qts. I uninstalled and then reinstalled it and now I can play the videos just fine.
