Can't install camera raw 4.1 on Mac

I have an Intel iMac running OS 10.4.10, Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3.
I couldn't make Camera Raw work, and it did not appear in ...Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/FileFormat as it is supposed to do. In fact, there is no such folder in Library/Application Support...
There is, however, a folder: Adobe/CameraRaw/Defaults/Preferences.xmp. A similar thing appears in the Photoshop CS3 in Appplication Support, but it has a bunch of Presets as well
In the drop-down menu in Bridge "Open in Camera Raw" appears, but it is always grayed out.
When I first went to open Camera Raw and I had this trouble I couldn't find the CR Plug-in where it seemed to belong, so I uninstalled Camera Raw. (The two folders above seem to have gotten left behind). Then I downloaded it afresh. However, the download has no read me, and it did not install itself where it belongs. It is just sitting on the desktop in a folder named DNG_Camera_Raw_4.1.dmg. In it are the two icons:
b /Volumes/DNG_Camera_Raw_4_1/Adobe DNG Converter.app
b /Volumes/DNG_Camera_Raw_4_1/Camera Raw.plugin.
Where should I move them to? I am especially puzzled because I do not have the proper Application Support folder. Is there a way out of this other than uninstalling and reinstalling all of Photoshop?

I did that long since, but it didn't help.
Someone suggested that I purge my cache, but that looks like a pretty scary thing to do.
Will it remove all the photo icons in Bridge? How will I find anything?
I have to ask all these questions because in this whole mess both photoshop and bridge help have disappeared. I keep getting a message:

This maakes no sense at all: What product?
It refers me to Apple help on line, but there is no solution there. I will phone Support tomorrow, and perhaps there will be someone there who knows what this is about. The About for Adobe Help 1.0 and 1.1, when I bring them up in Spotlight, both claim they belong to Photoshop.

Can't install Camera RAW 6.3 into Elements 9

I have downloaded the installer for 6.3 but when I go to install it, I get this message. "Some updates failed to install." When it tells me to fix the problems below, all it says is: installation failed!
I need this update in order to open RAW images from my Canon Powershot S95.
I am working with Elements 9 on both an iMac running OS 10.6.8 and onto a new MacBook Pro.
I have spent an hour reading everything I can and haven't been able to find any place to send this question to Adobe by email. The phone system for help has more than a half-hour of wait time.
Can someone figure out this problem?

Thank you. I couldn't find the Mac update section at the Adobe site by
using the various search options.
But,
The new download 6.5 installed without trouble. However, the "open with"
command still prompted Elements to respond with an "Unrecognized file type"
error, even though Elements was not listed as the default application.
Trying to open a nef file within Actrobat still showed the nef files grayed
out as unopenable with the application.
I tried to do the manual copying of the camera raw.plugin from the Assets 2
folder as you suggested. H owever it does not appear to be used in the
newer version (6.5). Instead, there is a Profiles directory containing two
further directories: CameraProfiles and LensProfiles.
The CameraProfiles folder contains a series of further folders for various
camera types, and each folder had a number of .dcp files. I can't find a
"camera raw.plugin" anywhere within Assets 2.
So, in sum:
1) The disk image Elements9CameraRaw-6.5-mul-AdobeUpdate downloaded from
Adobe installs correctly.
2) The default program type for .nef files was changed to Elements
3) Elements will not open a .nef file either from "open with" or within the
application selecting open from the menu.
Hoping you can help me work around this problem.

Can not install Camera Raw 5.6

I just recently purchased a Canon 7d so I had to update my CS4 in order to view the raw files in CS4. Everytime I try and to install Camera Raw 5.6 it keeps saying that installation failed. What am I doing wrong?

You can try doing a manual install using the PSE link near the top of the main ACR 5.6 page and then find the CS4-specific instructions on that manual install page.

HELP!! Adobe Updater won't work and can't install camera raw 4.6

I just installed Photoshop CS3 Extended onto my new MacBook Pro running Mavericks OS. My Adobe Updater says "No Internet connection. Please check your Internet settings and/or firewall. Waiting for connection..." That's the first problem. I figured out how to manually update Photoshop and Bridge, but Adobe Updater still shows this message when trying to check for updates. Also, I've tried to update Camera Raw from 4.0 to 4.6 and I can't figure out how to manually install it. I knkow the website says to do the following:
Mac:
Exit Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
Open the Finder.
Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user’s home folder).
Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats.
Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
I nativagated to Library/Application Support/Adobe, but there is no Plug-Ins folder. So, I manually entered "Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats" and it says this folder doesn't exist. Can anyone help me update my camera raw?! PLEASE!!

Just installed CS6 and Bridge. Downloaded Camera Raw 8.4. When I try to install the patch I get the message update failed patch is not applicable. How can I get 8.4 to work?

I'm trying to install Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.5 for CC on OS X. I open the .dmg file and run the AdobePatchInstaller.app. I get "Update Failed. Updates could not be applied. This patch is not applicable for you..." Hmmm. I am using Photoshop CC and I did download AdobeCameraRaw-8.5-CC-mul-AdobeUpdate. Thoughts?

Can't install Camera Raw 6.5

I can't install the upgrade for camera raw 6.5 for PS CS5 because it says that Bridge is open. Bridge though is not open and it is confirmed by looking at the task manager.
Any thoughts or should I forget about the upgrade to Camera Raw?

OK bad news I'm afraid.
I have just double checked the list of supported cameras and it looks like the Nikon D7100 isn't supported by PSE 10.
You will need to buy PSE 11 or use the free Adobe DNG converter. That will take the NEF files and convert them to DNG files which can theen be used in PSE.

Can't install Camera Raw update

I have never been able to install the current update for Camera Raw with PSE 6.0 for Mac. Even though I initially installed PSE 6.0 with all the default settings and location (Applications folder), I get the following error message when attempting to install the Camera Raw update, "The Updater is unable to locate the product to be updated."
I access the update via PSE's "Updates..." under the "Help" menu. How can I fix this? Thanks.

The PSE 6 updater can never ever update ACR, so just shut it off. You need to go here:

download the update and manually install it according to the directions. Be sure to remove the old plug-in first.

How can I install Camera Raw 7.1?

I have download Camera Raw 7.1 for Elements 10 to process Sony NEX7 Raw file. It comes out a AdobePatchInstaller and two support folders. When I execute the Installer, it asked to download the new Adobe Application Manager, I did. But I still can not execute the installer. When I open the Application Manager, and found the Camera Raw was not there. Adobe did not provide info for Camera Raw installationlike the older versions.

As far as I can tell, the last supported version of Camera Raw for Photoshop Elements 10 is 6.6.
Fortunately, NEX-7 support was introduced in Camera Raw 6.6.

Can't install Camera Raw 4.6

I just installed Elements 6 that came with my Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II printer, and when I check for updates, a Camera Raw 4.6 update is available. I download it, but when it tries to install, I get the message "The Updater is unable to find the product to be updated". My current version of Camera raw is 4.3.1

Well, one has to install (or rather replace) this one manually...
(I guess the most current version is 5.3....)
If you’re using a Mac, go to your Hard-Drive / Library / Application Support / Adobe /
Plug-Ins / CS3 / File Formats ... drag the downloaded “ Camera Raw.plugin” and the
“Adobe DNG Converter.app” (if you replace that one as well) into that folder...
Restart PS-Elements...

Adobe says that downloaded patches don’t work with the app store version (see FAQ)

I have been unable to install v5.4 and now 5.5 on my desktop. It installs without a problem on my laptop. MAC os v.10.5.8 and the laptop is a clone on the desktop. Adobe support has told me to try manual install nothing works. the case #181056926.
Any suggestions, help.

What happened when you tried to do the manual installation?
Did you remove everything from the
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats/
folder and then install the new 5.5 plug-in into that same folder, then
restart PS/Bridge?

How do I install camera raw updates to the mac app store version of elements 10

In the mac app store version of Elements 10 there is 'get updates' link on the help menu. And when I try to do it manually from a download I get a message telling me that 'this update no applicable'.

Once again, Apple only provides support for purchasing issues,not with using software purchased via the app store, any more than staples will give you tech support for a boxed version you buy from them:
The Mac App Store handles the download, installation, licensing, and updating of all products purchased through it. If you encounter an issue with an Adobe product during one of these four processes, visit http://www.apple.com/support.
For all other issues, including program errors and how to questions, visithttp://www.adobe.com/support.
Apple only provides support for problems with updates released via the app store and adobe has NEVER bothered to issue updates anything offered through the app store, so you can't get any help from apple for this.
It's more complicated to install ACR in the app store version. You have to do it manually. See this thread:
