Can't Install Cyberlink PowerDVD on HP Pavilion DV6

I recieved my HP Pavilion dv6-6145dx a couple of years ago and I was surprised to discover that CyberLink PowerDVD was not included with the notebook. I went to the HP Support drivers page and found PowerDVD (version 10) and downloaded it.
However, every time I try to install it, it does nothing. I can run the setup file but before the screen appears it closes without warning.
Any help is appreciated!

It didn't come with the laptop, so I guess it doesn't work.
But, upon inspection of the setup files, I decided to delete the VerCheck.dll file. Afterwhich setup managed to go through the screens and install perfectly.
Is that dll file crucial to setup? Does deleting it cause problems to the program after it is installed?

    Hi:
Most HP consumer notebooks such as your model, do not have the option to change the drive controller setting.
You will need to load the SATA AHCI drivers at the F6 prompt by using a USB floppy drive or you can slipstream the drivers by reading the info at the link below.

  • How can I deactivate Photoshop Elements 12 on my current computer so that I can re-install it on a new computer ?

Photoshop Elements 12 is currently installed on a a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with Windows 7 64 bits and I wish to deactivate it in order to re-install it on a much bigger/powerful machine.
I found no indication whatsoever on Adobe site for this question. The chain of questions on the site keeps taking me round and round until I reached this forum, which is where I started from !!!
Can somebody tell me how this can be done ?
Please DO NOT tell me to follow the path of questions until I get somewhere : this is juest what I have been doing for half an hour !!!

    Many thanks Brian !
Quick reply, simple process (two clicks). Why is it so difficult to find the answer ? Too simple ?
As a matter of fact it is a question of vocabulary : “sign out” and “deactivate” is NOT AT ALL  the same thing (I’ve been  for many years an editor of English versions of international standards and regulations, and happen to know what words mean ). All the more as I have just discovered in the “Uninstall” process that the word “deactivate” is used https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/uninstall-premiere-elements-photoshop-elemen ts.html
In French (my language), the Help menu reads “Deconnecter” which means something like “exit” or “sign out”. For me it meant either “leave the programm” or “disconnect from the help service”. Anyhow, it’s not an option you would use not knowing what the result would be : there is no suspension point on that line.
And the Help answer on Adobe’s site (in French) reads :
“Si vous souhaitez installer le logiciel sur un troisième ordinateur, désactivez-le sur l’ordinateur sur lequel vous n’allez plus l’utiliser. Ensuite, activez le logiciel sur le nouvel ordinateur.”
It does not use the word in the menu (déconnecter = disconnect).
Approximations like this could be a matter of life and death . In a french movie dramatizing the war in Algeria “L’honneur d’un Capitaine”, soldiers uphill in the mountains radio their captain – in the valley - to let him know they have captured the man they were looking for. He just says “Descendez-le”, which means “bring him down” or “Shoot him”. He meant of course “Bring him down”. The man was shot to death.
It looks like no one on the forum know the real answer. Do you think you could help correct this ? A simple phrase like : “check (or look up) uninstall process” would do.
    Regards
    Dominique

  • Win 7 blocked after quick web install on HP Pavilion dv6

installed quick web on my pavilion dv6 win 7 operating sys. when I try to boot to windows i get a 'press escape" message, then a black screen. quick web works , listing my operating sys. as linux. In settings when I click on the windows folder, I get a message that windows is encrypted, not cleanly shut down or hibernated. My computer's diagnostics says everything is working, but I have virtually no hard drive space available to me. How do I recover? or did I suffer a viral attack?

    Hi
The best i will like to suggest to you is try doing a system restore to the date where unit was working fine & have it checked.

  • Can external speakers be plugged into my HP Pavilion dv6?

I have a nice set of Altec Lansing speakers with a subwoofer from my PC (that I do not use anymore).  Can these be plugged into my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop?
I cannot find a port for the plug (a regular plug like for headphones into an Ipod).
There are plugs like this on the front for headphones and a microphone.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
What is the model of your "Altec Lansing speakers" ? If they worked on your PC, they should work on your laptop given they have the RIGHT 3.5mm plug.

  • Pavilion dv6-3033sa unresponsive

Hi this is my first post on here so apologies if this is in the wrong section.
My problem is that my pavilion dv6-3033sa is basically unresponsive. Here is what happened. About a week ago I turned my hp off normally with the menu power off button and I waited for it to turn off (didn't force shutdown, all programs were closed), it closed down normally as far as I can tell. The next morning I switch it on and realise the splash and login screens are not showing. The screen is black. The caps lock flashes indefinitely and the wifi button is Amber/orange. The HDD light is also a solid Amber/orange. I have tried numerous hard resets to no avail. More research has shown me that an Amber hdd light indicates that media smart is enabled, protecting my hard drive from a fall.
I have dropped my laptop before but this was at least a month ago and nothing bad happened. I have dropped it quite a few times but why only now is it doing this? About 4 months ago I turned my laptop on and out of the blue it froze, something which had never happened before. I few more tries and it worked. It was fine from then until now. Please help.

    @Matthp26
Ok, if there has been no sign of life yet, there are a couple of options for you to try. As I mentioned last time, if the notebook has been dropped a few times it is possible that something is loose.
If you like you can take a look at this: HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
Using that document you can carefully check your notebook for loose connections. But read the instructions and warnings carefully to avoid causing more damage, including static charge related damage.
Also you can look at this.
HP Notebook Hard Drives & Solid State Drives Identifying, Preventing, Diagnosing and Recovering from...
If it still does not respond, and there is data on your hard drive that you need, you should try this:
Edit Article How to Recover Data from the Hard Drive of a Dead Laptop - wikihow.com
Once you have backed up your data, then you can try phone support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Can't Install Windows 7 Home Premium on my new Pavilion dv6

Well guys I have a serious problem here. I recently bought myself a new HP notebook and as I took a first glance at all the unnecessary programs and applications that were allready installed I decided to reinstall windows from the start. So i downloaded a free Windows 7 Trial and burnt the image to a dvd. I thought I could activate the trial later on with my genuine Windows 7 key on the back of my notebook. But the win7 setup didn't even get me that far! After that I had formated the HDD during the setup process it just get's to "finishing installation". This is where the following error message pops up:
"Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"
All I can do here is just click "ok". Then the computer reboots and it says "the windows installation wasn't finished before" or so..
Please, please help me! I have no idea how to solve this problem! Could maybe a hp employee help me out?
    This is my product:
    HP Pavilion dv6-7145ez (B8G15EA)
    further details here: http://www8.hp.com/ch/de/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5293000
    I thank everybody for solutions

    Hi:
Try using this free partitioning and formatting software on your C:\ drive first.
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Did you use this method of making a W7 DVD that I have posted for dozens of users who have all gotten W7 to install this way?
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

    @Kristelline
Do you have the links that you used to download the Cyberlink MediaSuite and Cyberlink LabelPrint?
Are you getting any errors message when you are trying the installation? Try doing the installation with your anti-virus disconnected. Also try right-clicking on the file and running it as Administrator.
    @Paul-Armstrong
When do you get that error message about it not being a valid drive during the install or before it starts?

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC Cannot Install Cyberlink PowerDirector on Fresh Install Windows 8.1

    HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC
    Product number: F5D54EA#ABU
    Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
I replaced the original system drive with a SSD, fresh install of wndows 8.1 (not recovery disk), now I canot install Cyberlink PowerDirector downloaded from HP sp69386. During installation it fails with "This is not a valid HP drive, Setup will now abort" It obviously requires something to be available on the drive but I don't know what.
    PowerDVD will install just fine.
Please don't mention a Recovery Install it's taken too long to arrive at this stage.
The question is what is the software looking for during installation to satisfy itself that this is a genuine HP laptop and can I replicate that on the SSD.

    Hi @Darren104
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I saw your post regarding the problem installing the Cyberlink PowerDirector software. As the PowerDirector software is DVD software I can't see how a new SSD would cause the “not a valid HP driver” if you had changed out your optical drive then maybe.
