Can't install Data Guard using DBCA in Oracle 11g Release 2

I have installed Oracle database 11g Release 2 successfully. I have installed Label Security using DBCA, now when I am installing Database Vault using DBCA, it gives message "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" and exists back to DBCA.
What step I am missing? please suggest.
Regards and thx,

Hi,
I had the same issue too. I installed it on my desktop (server class option). Everything else including EM is working fine. However I got around the issue to an extent by manually running the catalog scripts for database vault. It should be located under $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin. You have to run the script catmac.sql. There is a catch though. You need to go through the contents of the script and execute the other scripts manually by supplying username and passwords (yes, it sucks!!) but I don't find any help on metalink for this issue.
Currently I am trying to create the realms but I am denied permission due to lack of "OPERATOR TARGET" privileges.
If someone can lead me to the correct place where I can look for what is missing, it would be great.
Thank you
Kumar Ramalingam

  • How can i install any program using java code

    Hi friends,
    i want to know how can i install any software using c# code.

    Hi,
    You may change your title, Since this is C# forum.

    So what kind of your software?
    In C#,we can install and uninstall "*.msi" files (setup).
    The code to install software without user interface is:
    private void installSoftware()
    Process p = new Process();
    p.StartInfo.FileName = "msiexec.exe";
    p.StartInfo.Arguments = "/i \"C:\\Application.msi\"/qn";
    p.Start();

  • Will Oracle Data Guard be replaced by Oracle Stream soon?

    Will Oracle Data Guard be replaced by Oracle Stream soon?
    In my opinion Oracle Stream can replace Oracle Data Guard completely.
    Message was edited by:

    While some of the technologies that underpin Streams are being increasingly incorporated into DataGuard, it's quite unlikely that DataGuard will go away.
    Streams is the successor to Advanced Replication, which is designed to allow a source database to propagate data to a distinct database in a different environment without necessarily having to have the two databases tightly coupled. You can have different databases in different regions managed by different DBA groups who don't necessarily care whether any of the other systems are up using Streams (or Advanced Replication before it). Failing over between these systems, while possible, requires a fair amount of custom scripting, but is certainly possible.
    DataGuard, on the other hand, is designed to allow you to have multiple copies of the same database that are tightly coupled for high availability. Similar in concept, but there are very different trade-offs in the design.
    That said, Streams and Logical Standby both use very similar technologies to mine the redo information for change records. As DataGuard uses Logical Standby more and more, potentially as a replacement for physical standby, they'll use more and more of the same underlying technologies. They'll still be very different products.

  • Can we use hints in oracle 11g version ?

    can we use hints in oracle 11g version ? is it working ??

    Why do you ask these questions? Have you looked at the SQL Reference Guide and Performance Tuning Guide for your Oracle version - both which covers using hints?
    Have you see a statement that is not supported? Or does not work?
    Or are you simply doing idle speculation and expecting forum members to spend their free time in answering a basic question where the answer is ridiculously simply to find?

  • How to insert data from *.dmp file to  oracle 11g using Oracle SQL Develope

    hi
    i backup my database using PL/SQL developer and made *.dmp file
    how to insert data from *.dmp file to oracle 11g using Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64
    and how to make *.dmp file from sql*plus ?
    thanks in advance

    Pl/Sql developer has a config window, there you choose the exec to do the import/export.
    Find it and his home version, it may be exp or expdp, the home version is the version of the client where the exp executable is.
    Then use the same version of imp or impdp to execute the import, you do not need to use Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64. If you want to use it, you must have the same version in the oracle home that exp/imp of sql developer use.

    Hi,
    Am trying to install the oracle 11g Release 2 database on my Laptop,

    C:\$Oracle_BASE$\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\owb\external\oc4j_applications\applications

    Thanks Srini,
    After checking the link, I was able to install it but there were some error messages.
    I have another problem log in the SQL PLUS. When I open the SQL PLUS window, it asked for Username and after I typed "sys" or "system" and hit Enter; it was prompted for password, however, it did not let me type in any word; and after I hit Enter again, the error message " ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" appeared
    Any hints would be apprecieted, thanks.
    SamIt wasn't preventing you from typing a password, it just wasn't echoing your keystrokes back to the screen. This is a security security feature common to most software, not just oracle. Either when asking for a password, either echo back a 'masking' character like '*' or don't echo anything. It's so common, I'm surprised you seem to have never seen it before.
    So after entering your password ... the 12560 probably comes from
    1- the fact you didn't have the environment variable ORACLE_SID set, so sqlplus didn' know the name of the instance/process you wanted to connect to, or
    2 - the windows service for the database was not started.
    Those two possibilities account for 99.99999 pct of ora-12560 on Windows installations.

    Has anyone been able to create a data guard of 10g R2 (10.2.0.3 dbs) using Grid Control 10gR3?
    My creation stopped on cloning the standby db step. And i had to finish it manually but i'm just wondering if it has worked for anyone else?

    One step further. I enabled debug tracing for the agent and noticed that the creation of the windows service causes an error.

  • Create Data Guard Using ASM Managed RMAN backup

    we have an oracle database 11.1.0.7 working on Windows server 2003 (64bit). The storage in ASM managed (same 11.1.0.7). Our total database size is 4TB.
    I will have to create a physical standby database (Data Guard) of this instance. Now I am having issues on how to transport my RMAN backup pieces (which is also ASM managed).
    I cannot do an over the network RMAN backup because it will take months to complete.
    We have external 4 hard disks (2 TB each). But my RMAN backup pieces are ASM in format.
    Any ideas on how to easily create a data guard in this set up.

    can you provide us any clear steps....Hope you asked for Restoring from backups.
    1) Prepare PFILE and put in nomount status.
    2) Restore standby controlfile
    RMAN> restore standby controlfile from '+DG/...'
    3) Mount controlfile
    SQL> alter database mount standby database;
    4) Restore database.
    If you are restoring into another diskgroups, then use as below.
    RUN {
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '+Dg1/....';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 2 TO "+Dg1/...';
    RESTORE DATABASE
    If same diskgroup you want to use then, just give RMAN> restore database;
    After successful restore
    5) Start MRP
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;

  • Can streams and data guard run together

    I need to set up a staging database to run streams from.
    Can I use data guard from the production database to the staging database and
    streams on top of that?
    Has anyone done this?

    Correction:
    Data Guard Redo Apply can be used to provide high availability/disaster recovery for a Streams database. For best practices using Dataguard Redo Apply with Streams, see http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/MAA_WP_10gDataGuardRoleTransitionsStreams.pdf
    Data Guard SQL Apply cannot be used to provide high availability/disaster recovery for a Streams database.

    Hi
    You can achieve it in another way..
    Before Passing Data to BAPI , Check whether the material is existing or not..
    If material is existing (Present in Material Master Tables e.g. MARA ) using
    data: l_matnr like mara-matnr.
    Select single matnr from mara into l_matnr.
    IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
    " Material is existing ==> Do Not Pass to BAPI
    else.
    " Material is NOT existing ==> Pass to BAPI for creation.
    endif.
    Repeat above logic for every material in batch..
    Hope it will solve your problem..
