Can't install downloaded Blackberry Desktop software

I downloaded the latest version of the BB 8100 desktop software from the BB site to my computer. It unzips OK but when it starts to install it stops every time. Have exited every Windows program first.  Any ideas?

Problem:
Similar but not the same as errors 2738 1607 encountered with installing blackberry desktop manager software, there is no error message here, simply the WinZip Self Extractor completes, then the Installshield Wizard opens and appears to be installing.  After several seconds, a BlackBerry window opens (BlackBerry Desktop Software - Installshield Wizard) with the message: "The wizard was interrupted before the BlackBerry Desktop Software could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.    Click Finish to exit the wizard.
Solution(s)
Ok, saw this thread was un answered so I thought I would reply in case anyone out there has this issue too, it drove me mental for a week too.  (before you read on I am not responsible for any messed up computers, blackberries or anything at all! This  is a GUIDE that worked for me and not the law!) So, here we go… I tried many many things to fix this, I am on Vista home, berry 9700 bold 2, TELUS Mobility (doesn’t really matter), Blackberry handheld OS 5.0, Vista Desktop Manager 5.0.1. English without media manager/roxio w/Sp1 downloaded from blackberry. I tried just about everything you can imagine, know my way around computers reasonably well (or so my mom tells me haha) and uninstalled the previous version of desktop manager with REVO uninstaller etc...
Some of the other things I tried that did NOT work for me but MAY WORK for you are as follows, what ultimately worked for me was step C and all sub sections of, I might start there but I am writing this in order of things I tried.
Solution A) un/re registering vbscript.dll (in c:windows\system32) to no avail…click start, run cmd prompt (should open as admin),
1. Start à Accessories à right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator. A Windows Elevation confirmation screen will pop up. Confirm the action OR alternatively just run CMD from Start àrun à cmd and it should run as admin
2. The Command Administrator Prompt opens to something like the following- C:\Windows\system32>. If anything else change directory by typing this without quotes: “cd\windows\system32”
1)     Now at the command prompt, which should be- C:\Windows\system32  unregister the vbscript.dll file from Windows by typing at the command prompt (without quotes) “regsvc32 /u vbscript32.dll” (This will un-register the VB Script dll with your computer. A confirmation window will appear after this)
2)     Now we want to register it C:\Windows\system32 regsvr32 vbscript.dll (This registers VB Script with your computer -- a confirmation window will appear after this as well.)
3)     Try rebooting and running your blackberry software install
Solution B) Everything on this site : This Blackbery Forum Post (great post, thanks! Hey, you might learn something here that will come in handy one day if it doesn’t help you now, I did)
Follow each step there, try rebooting and running your blackberry software install as indicated
Solution B.Longshot) If A and B don’t work, you can try a repair of vista using the recover cd (if you don’t have one go here: neoSmart (I downloaded and burned image with aShampoo dvd burning software, restart windows with DVD/CD in the drive, press F12 on boot (or whatever gets YOU into ‘setup’, not the BIOS, change boot first device to CD/DVD ROM. I used this and it works perfectly, just follow their directions on the site and pick the right version for your OS etc) be *VERY*CAREFUL to NOT wipe your drive and just do a REPAIR (can take an hour), again if you don’t know what you are doing, skip this one and move on.
What DID WORK for ME, is the following (SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT *** DO NOT ASSUME THAT USING AN UNINSTALLER LIKE REVO WILL DO ALL OF THIS FOR YOU - THIS WAS MY MISTAKE from the beginning, 25 hours later I realized that YOU NEED TO DO THE UNINSTALL AND SOME MANUAL STEPS EVEN IF YOU SELECT THE MOST THOROUGH***)
This one, D, worked for me specifically:
Solution D) Uninstall the BlackBerry Desktop Software, preferably using REVO UNINSTALLER  go:  HERE to get Revo (CNET)
Use the Advanced uninstall option, thorough option, the last one down the list, this will notonly use blackberry’s built in uninstaller, but scan for remnants of the software on your drive and registry
When prompted select all and delete everything it finds, do not skip any steps, reboot, try re-installing the blackberry desktop software
You could try a similar type of uninstaller if you have one; however, I don’t recommend leaving it to using the control panel add/remove programs, I did not try this with that method
Solution D part 2) Once you have uninstalled and rebooted
- Delete the Research In Motion Folders from the hard drive AND Registry
Browse to C:\program files\Research in Motion, delete this folder
Click Start à Run.
Type Regedit, and then click OK. (Please be careful here, only do this if you have a good idea what you are doing, you can really mess things up here, go slow carefully please please please)
In Registry Editor, delete the Research In Motion folder located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
Delete the Research In Motion folder located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\   (This key will supposedly be missing if you are removing Desktop Manager version 4.0)
Reboot, reinstall the Blackberry Software, issue SHOULD HOPEFULLY be resolved!! So there you have it. I am 99% sure one of those things will get you back on your feet....good luck,
Good luck
I can be reached at 6packs at live dot com if you spot an error I can fix, otherwise please post to the forums!

  • Can't download Blackberry Desktop Software Version 6.0.1?

    Hi,
I've just got a Blackberry Bold 9900, but only have Windows XP SP2 so cannot download 6.1.  When I select the download earlier versions section and go to download 6.0.1 it still brings up the page to download 6.1!
How do I get around this?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Hi Paul and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
Older versions of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software are not available for download.  BlackBerry® Desktop Software 6.1 requires Windows® XP Service Pack 3.  You can obtain Service Pack 3 by installing the latest Windows® updates.

  • Can't install or uninstall Desktop software and Roxio Media Manager has taken over

I had been having trouble with the Blackberry Desktop software crashing each time I closed it when I was done using it. This morning when I booted my computer I got an error message that said RoxWatchTray9 was unable to locate component. When I tried to close that box it attempted to install something but it just stalls. When I close try to cancel it just freezes. After while it tries to install again only to freeze again.
I figured the best solution would be to uninstall and reinstall the program but when I went into Add/Remove I discovered six listings for Blackberry Device Software for Blackberry 9530 smartphone, one for v5.0 and five for v4.7.0. I finally managed to uninstall the v5.0 at the top of the list but I can't remove the other five. I also can't reinstall the program. Roxio Media Manager continues attempting to force an install and is hogging my system resources. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Try this process (you might have to do step 2 multiple times for each instance of what is showing in add/remove programs):
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/WIN7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again. You might also want to avoid Media Manager unless you really really need it.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Blackberry Desktop Software 6 will not install

    Hi
I am having real trouble installing Blackberry Desktop software 6, my problems started when my computer downloaded Blackberry Desktop Software 6 and a McAfee virus protection update at the same time then tried to install them both.
After many system restores and activating various dlls and removing McAfee I have managed to get my computer up and running again but when I have tried to reinstall the Blackberry Software I always get an error during intstallation that states:
Rim.Desktop.HttpServerSetup has encountered a problem and needs to close
It then tries to remove the installation which it then says that it can't complete and ends, it leaves an icon on the desktop but it shows an error everytime I try to start the software.
I have tried the clean uninstall as directed on the Blackberry website including removing all the registry keys and restarting the dll but I keep getting the same error.
Window XP is my operating system
Please help it driving me MAD

I've never had any problems with DM6 on WinXP, SP3.
I've mentioned on here several times that I don't recommend using the Roxio software, it's just to buggy I think.

  • Can get Blackberry Desktop Software to work on my new PC

    Hi there,
I have just purchased a new HP PC, the OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. For some reason the latest version (6) or Blackberry Desktop Software does not work, I can only use the old version 5. Any idea?

  • Blackberry Desktop Software Installation Problem

I had a problem with Roxio Media Manager continuously wanting to reinstall.  So I fixed that problem and and uninstalled the Blackberry software. I then tried to re-install the Blackberry Desktop software so I can syncronize my contacts on my home computer.  I have tried this from a downloaded version 4.6 and with the version on my Blackberry CD.  Same problem with both.
The install starts and asks for language, then the install starts for a couple of seconds.  Then I get this message:
Error opening installation log file.  Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable.
I can't get past this message.  It does not say where the log file location is.  Other software installs, it is only Blackberry software that will not install.  I tried renaming CProgram Files\Common files\Installshield and making it read/write, but this install still fails with the same message.
Any ideas to try?  Anywhere else that I can go for help?
    Andy
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks, that worked.
I unzipped the file, then I opened a cmd window and manually ran msiexec with your Blackberry msi file.  I added a /L flag to put the logfile into a local logfile.txt file and everything went fine.
Perhaps you are specifying a problematic log file name, at least for my computer?
Anyway, this new version of Blackberry software works fine for keeping my home contacts up-to-date with my work contacts.  I'm glad I was able to install it without the Roxio media manager.  That program was driving me crazy.

  • Blackberry desktop software modem help?

So here's the story: I formatted my laptop lost BDS, tried reinstalling but failed, eventually copied the whole blackberry desktop software folder from another pc to mine.
But that didn't fix my problem since it didn't detect my device so I ran over to blackberry's site and downloaded the usb and modem drivers. I installed them and yay it detects my phone (after I manually run blackberry device manager). Now the problem lies with the modem configuration (the whole reason why I got the desktop software in the first place) when I press the mobile internet button it takes me to the mobile internet settings but nothing happens, there is just a green circle loading icon to the right of the profile option. It doesn't do anything and I can't chose any settings I did wait for 20 mins but still nothing.
    Please help

    Hey CrimsonCloud,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
First thing I would suggest is performing a clean uninstall of BlackBerry® Desktop Software.  Follow all of the steps in this KB article: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Then restart your PC and go to www.blackberry.com/desktop to download the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Software and install the software.  If you receive any errors, please let me know the exact error message.
Once installed, restart the PC and when the computer is up and running, connect your BlackBerry® Curve™ 9300 smartphone via USB and it should install drivers.
Once you get a notification saying the drivers are now installed, open BlackBerry Desktop Software and then try to setup your tethering.
Let me know if you have any mroe questions.
    Cheers.

  • Blackberry desktop software shows erro while updating

can anyone help me .. I really need help im struggling since 4 months my blackberry desktop software is not updating my device when I want to do software update it shows error that " an error occurred while downloading blackberry desktop software. please try again"

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
For some reason, the "automatic" method is failing...consequently, you need to take control and override the automatic method. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • Blackberry Desktop Software conflicts with Norton 2009

    Hi,
I bought a new Blackberry Pearl 8110 and tried to install the Blackberry Desktop Software on my Dell XPS 420 using Windows Vista. I installed it and when I rebooted my computer, my Norton Internet Security 2009 went crazy & it said that my Norton subscription had expired, even though I still had 391 days left on my subscription and all of my settings were off and disabled. The Symantec Tech. tried to fix my Norton twice & I told him it was fine until I installed the Blackberry Software - so I uninstalled the software and the Norton went back to normal. Do I actually need the Desktop Software or will my phone be fine without it? I want to add Music, Ringtones, Pictues & update my Calendar, can I just do that on my phone? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
I was told to go to the link & download the newest version. I did that also & same senario.

    Lisa,
I have Desktop Manager 4.7 (without the media files as Roxio takes too long to load) and Norton Internet Security 2009 and all works just fine.  Just for your reference.

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!
    Cheers!

  • Blackberry Desktop Software (Roxio, specifically) causes network problems and blue screens.

I'm posting this note because I just solved my network issue/crash problems. I started experiencing lots of disconnects and page not found on my office computer over the past few days. Only thing I could think of that was different lately was that I installed the Blackberry Desktop Software. Then a huge lightbulb went on over my head. I remembered when it was installing, it said it was installing "Roxio" software and at that moment shivers went down my spine from past experiences.
Well, I have lots of good "bad" experiences with Roxio CD software which had caused these same problems on two of my home computers. It caused blue screens when used in conjunction with my wireless Netgear card and also standard network card. The same symptoms including very slow internet access, general machine sluggishness, etc. I was trying to chase this down for months til I finally removed the Roxio crapware and ALL problems went away. No more slow machine, no more page not found and no more blue screens on two of my computers. Now, on a completely different Toshiba work laptop and different network adaptor, same problems.
So, here we are again with Roxio as part of Blackberry Desktop software. I like my new Blackberrry 8830, but I have to pass this along to the Blackberry folks because I KNOW I'M RIGHT about this. I only installed the software so that I could type my contacts into Outlook and then download to my Blackberry. So, after realizing the common symptoms and after having completed my download (which worked great by the way), I removed the Blackberry Desktop Software and I'm back to speedy everything, no more pages not found, no more putty disconnects, and no more blue screens.
I hope someone gets good use of this post because this drove me crazy the first time around.

    We had the same problem.
We did extensive troubleshooting, and found the problem was effecting our new HP Windows XP .Laptops.
We did not have any trouble with the Older Dell Latitude we have.
We found the BSOD still happened after removing the Black Berry Desktop Manager Software.
We traced it to a memroy / resource leak in the USB subsystem.
The workaround we found is to go into the Device manager, and remove all the drivers from the USB section.
** Disclaimer :  This works for us, but may make your computer unusable.  Backup your data to external storage.
                   Back up your computer
Start -> control Panel -> system ->Hardware tab ->  Device manager.
Expand "Universal Serial Bus Controller"  at bottom of list.
Right click on each Item, and select "uninstall"
                    Don't reboot after each one.
                    * Remove ALL the entries under Universal Serial Bus Controllers *
Repeat until all the entries under  "Universe Serial Bus Controller" are removed
(there may be one that sticks, thats ok. so long as it has been uninstalled.
                Reboot.
The OS will rebuild the USB stack and drivers to default.
This has worked for us so far.
We are not sure if this wont break something else.

  • BlackBerry Desktop Software 6 doesn't go along with Windows 7 ?

I tried to install applications using BlackBerry Desktop Software 6 on my Windows 7 laptop, a weird thing happened: after selected applications to install and hit apply button, the software wouldn't go downloading or do anything, just went back right away to refresh the application list.
I've got other couple of computers with Windows XP, Vista and Windows Server 2008, so I tried the software on them, no any problem.
Anybody get the same problem? What the reason could be?

One of my laptops is running Windows 7 and I just recently, and successfully, installed the BlackBerry Desktop Software. I would try going into your computer's Control Panel and seeing if the Desktop Software did in fact install. If it did, then uninstall it and try again. If you are still having issues, try running the installation in Compatibility Mode. The instructions on how to run something in this Mode through Windows 7 are located here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html
To find the .exe file of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, navigate to My Computer (Windows Key + E) > Right-Click on the CD in the Drive > Select 'Open'. I have attached an image below for visual reference.
I hope my response helped you! If you like it, give me a kudo!
